We report measurements of the electrical resistivity and ac magnetic susceptibility of single crystalline LaPt$_2$Si$_2$ under pressure, in order to investigate the interplay of superconductivity and CDW order. LaPt$_2$Si$_2$ exhibits a first order phase transition from a tetragonal to orthorhombic structure, accompanied by the onset of CDW order below $T_{\rm{CDW}}$ = 76 K, while superconductivity occurs at a lower temperature of $T_{\rm{c}}$ = 1.87 K. We find that the application of pressure initially suppresses the CDW transition, but enhances $T_{\rm{c}}$. At pressures above 2.4 GPa, CDW order vanishes, while both $T_{\rm{c}}$ and the resistivity $A$-coefficient reach a maximum value around this pressure. Our results suggest that the occurrence of a superconducting dome can be accounted for within the framework of BCS theory, where there is a maximum in the density of states upon the closure of the CDW gap.
We find that a tetragonal CaBe_2Ge_2-type structure can be stabilized in non-stoichiometric LaPt_{2-x}Ge_{2+x}. We further discovered that tetragonal LaPt_{2-x}Ge_{2+x} with x=0.15 and 0.2 respectively superconduct at Tc=1.85 K and 1.95 K, which is about four time higher than that in monoclinic LaPt_2Ge_2.
We have studied the superconducting gap structure of LaPt$_2$Si$_2$ by measuring the temperature dependence of the London penetration depth shift $Δλ(T)$ and point contact spectroscopy of single crystals. $Δλ(T)$ shows an exponential temperature dependence at low temperatures, and the derived normalized superfluid density $ρ_{s}(T)$ can be well described by a single-gap s-wave model. The point-contact conductance spectra can also be well fitted by an s-wave Blonder-Tinkham-Klapwijk model, where the gap value shows a typical BCS temperature and magnetic field dependence consistent with type-II …
The intriguing coexistence of the charge density wave (CDW) and superconductivity in SrPt$_2$As$_2$ and LaPt$_2$Si$_2$ has been investigated based on the {\it ab initio} density functional theory band structure and phonon calculations. We have found that the local split distortions Pt atoms in the [As-Pt-As] layers play an essential role in driving the five-fold supercell CDW instability as well as the phonon softening instability in SrPt$_2$As$_2$. By contrast, the CDW and phonon softening instabilities in LaPt$_2$Si$_2$ occur without split distortions of Pt atoms, indicating that the driving…
In many cases, unconventional superconductivity are realized by suppressing another order parameter, such as charge density wave (CDW) or spin density wave (SDW). This suggests that the fluctuations of these order parameters play an important role in producing superconductivity. LaPt$_2$Ge$_2$ undergoes a tetragonal-to-monoclinic structural phase transition (SPT) at $T_{\rm s}$ = 394 K, accompanying a double period modulation in the $a$-axis direction, and superconducts at $T_{\rm c}$ = 0.41 K. We performed band calculations and found 2D (two dimensional)-like Fermi surfaces with partial nesti…
The superconducting gap structure of a charge density wave (CDW) superconductor LaPt$_2$Si$_2$ ($T_c$ = 1.6~K) having a quasi two dimensional crystal structure has been investigated using muon spin rotation/relaxation ($μ$SR) measurements carried out in transverse field (TF), zero field (ZF) and longitudinal field (LF) geometries. Rigorous analysis of TF-$μ$SR spectra in the superconducting state corroborates that the temperature dependence of the effective penetration depth, $λ_L$, derived from muon spin depolarization, fits to an isotropic $s+s-$wave model suggesting that the Fermi surface c…
We investigated the superconducting order parameter of the filled skutterudite LaPt4Ge12, with a transition temperature of Tc = 8.3 K. To this end, we performed temperature and magnetic-field dependent specific-heat and thermal-conductivity measurements. All data are compatible with a single superconducting s-wave gap. However, a multiband scenario cannot be ruled out. The results are discussed in the context of previous studies on the substitution series Pr1-xLaxPt4Ge12. They suggest compatible order parameters for the two end compounds LaPt4Ge12 and PrPt4Ge12. This is not consistent with a s…
The superconducting pairing state of LaPt$_{4}$Ge$_{12}$ is studied by measuring the magnetic penetration depth $λ(T,B)$ and the superfluid density $ρ_s(T)$ using a tunnel-diode-oscillator (TDO)-based method and by transverse field muon-spin rotation ($μ$SR) spectroscopy. $λ(T)$ follows an exponential-type temperature dependence at $T\ll T_{c}$, but its zero-temperature value $λ(0)$ increases linearly with magnetic field. Detailed analyses demonstrate that both $λ(T)$ and the corresponding $ρ_{s}(T)$, measured in the Meissner state by the TDO method are well described by a two-gap $γ$ model wi…
Topological superconductors (SCs) are novel phases of matter with nontrivial bulk topology. They host at their boundaries and vortex cores zero-energy Majorana bound states, potentially useful in fault-tolerant quantum computation. Chiral SCs are particular examples of topological SCs with finite angular momentum Cooper pairs circulating around a unique chiral axis, thus spontaneously breaking time-reversal symmetry (TRS). They are rather scarce and usually feature triplet pairing: best studied examples in bulk materials are UPt3 and Sr2RuO4 proposed to be f-wave and p-wave SCs respectively, a…
A search for superconductivity has been carried out on the hexagonal polymorph of Laves-phase CaLi2, a compound for which Feng, Ashcroft, and Hoffmann predict highly anomalous behavior under pressure. No superconductivity is observed above 1.10 K at ambient pressure. However, high-pressure ac susceptibility and electrical resistivity studies to 81 GPa reveal bulk superconductivity in CaLi2 at temperatures as high as 13 K. The normal-state resistivity shows a dramatic increase with pressure.
Following the recent discovery of very high temperature conventional superconductivity in sulfur hydride (critical temperature Tc of 203 K, Ref1) we searched for superconductivity in other hydrides and found that a covalent hydride phosphine (PH3) also exhibits a high Tc >100 K at pressure P > 200 GPa as determined from four-probe electrical measurements.
We measured the electrical resistivity of a BiS2-based compound EuFBiS2 under high pressure. Polycrystalline EuFBiS2 shows insulator-metal transition and pressure-induced superconductivity above 0.7 GPa. The superconducting transition temperature increases with increasing applied pressure and shows the maximum value around 8.6 K at 1.8 GPa.
Superconductivity of transition metal dichalcogenide $1T$-TiTe$_2$ under high pressure was investigated by the first-principles calculations. Our results show that the superconductivity of $1T$-TiTe$_2$ exhibits very different behavior under the hydrostatic and uniaxial pressure. The hydrostatic pressure is harmful to the superconductivity, while the uniaxial pressure is beneficial to the superconductivity. Superconducting transition temperature $T_C$ at ambient pressure is 0.73 K, and it reduces monotonously under the hydrostatic pressure to 0.32 K at 30 GPa. While the $T_C$ increases dramati…
We study superconductivity in Boron using first-principles LAPW calculations, the rigid-muffin-tin approximation and the McMillan theory. Our results point to an electron-phonon mechanism producing transition temperatures near 10K at high pressures in agreement with recent measurements.
Superconductivity with Tc of 45 K was realized in the tetragonal ZrCuSiAs-type PrOxFeAs (x=0.75) under heat treatment of 1300 oC and pressure of 6 GPa for 2 hours. Although the sample prepared at 900 oC in vaccum possessed the same phase as that treated in pressure, the electrical transport measurement showed the similar behavior with its parent ReOFeAs (Re: rare-earth metal). This pressure-induced superconductivity could give us a hint to understand the origins of the newly-found iron based superconductors.
The long-sought goal of room-temperature superconductivity has reportedly recently been realized in a carbonaceous sulfur hydride compound under high pressure, as reported by Snider et al. [1]. The evidence presented in that paper is stronger than in other similar recent reports of high temperature superconductivity in hydrides under high pressure [2-7], and has been received with universal acclaim [8-10]. Here we point out that features of the experimental data shown in Ref. [1] indicate that the phenomenon observed in that material is not superconductivity. This observation calls into questi…
We have studied the structural and superconductivity properties of the compound LaFeAsO0.9F0.1 under pressures up to 32GPa using synchrotron radiation and diamond anvil cells. We obtain an ambient pressure bulk modulus K_0 = 78(2)GPa, compressibility comparable to some cuprates. At high pressures, the sample is in the overdoped region, with a linear decrease with pressure variation of the superconducting transition temperature.
Electrical resistivity measurements under high pressures up to 29 GPa were performed for oxypnictide compound LaFeAsO. We found a pressure-induced superconductivity in LaFeAsO. The maximum value of Tc is 21 K at ~12 GPa. The pressure dependence of the Tc is similar to those of LaFeAsO1-xFx series reported previously.
Very recently, NiTe2 has been reported to be a type II Dirac semimetal with Dirac nodes near the Fermi surface. Furthermore, it is unveiled that NiTe2 presents the Hall Effect, which is ascribed to orbital magnetoresistance. The physical properties behavior of NiTe2 under high pressure attracts us. In this paper, we investigate the electrical properties of polycrystalline NiTe2 by application of pressure ranging from 3.4GPa to 54.45Gpa. Superconductivity emerges at critical pressure 12GPa with a transition temperature of 3.7K, and Tc reaches its maximum, 6.4 K, at the pressure of 52.8GPa. Comp…
The evolution of pressure induced superconductivity in single crystal as well as polycrystalline samples of BaFe2As2 has been investigated through temperature dependent electrical resistivity studies in 0-7 GPa pressure range. While the superconducting transition remains incomplete in polycrystalline sample, a clear pressure induced superconductivity with zero resistivity at the expense of magnetic transition, associated with spin density wave (SDW), is observed in the single crystal sample. The superconducting transition temperature (TC) is seen to increase upto a moderate pressure of about ~…
We report the effect of pressure on the electrical transport properties of the four-layer-type bismuth chalcogenide semiconductors LaOPbBiS$_{3}$ and La$_{2}$O$_{2}$Bi$_{3}$AgS$_{6}$ and present the discovery of a pressure-induced superconductivity. In both compounds, the semiconductorlike behavior concomitant with an anomaly in the more insulating state is gradually suppressed with increasing pressure while the superconductivity develops. The obtained phase diagrams, in sharp contrast with the interplay between the conventional charge density waves and superconductivity, suggest that the enha…
Weyl semimetal defines a material with three dimensional Dirac cones which appear in pair due to the breaking of spatial inversion or time reversal symmetry. Superconductivity is the state of quantum condensation of paired electrons. Turning a Weyl semimetal into superconducting state is very important in having some unprecedented discoveries. In this work, by doing resistive measurements on a recently recognized Weyl semimetal TaP under pressure up to about 100 GPa, we observe superconductivity at about 70 GPa. The superconductivity retains when the pressure is released. The systematic evolut…
Studies of the effect of high pressure on superconductivity began in 1925 with the seminal work of Sizoo and Onnes on Sn to 0.03 GPa and have continued up to the present day to pressures in the 200 - 300 GPa range. Such enormous pressures cause profound changes in all condensed matter properties, including superconductivity. In high pressure experiments metallic elements, Tc values have been elevated to temperatures as high as 20 K for Y at 115 GPa and 25 K for Ca at 160 GPa. These pressures are sufficient to turn many insulators into metals and magnetics into superconductors. The changes will…
We investigate the hydrostatic pressure dependence of interfacial superconductivity occurring at the atomically sharp interface between two non-superconducting materials: the topological insulator (TI) Bi2Te3 and the parent compound Fe1+yTe of the chalcogenide iron based superconductors. Under pressure, a significant increase in the superconducting transition temperature Tc is observed. We trace the pressure dependence of a superconducting twin gap structure by Andreev reflection point contact spectroscopy (PCARS), which shows that a large superconducting gap associated with the interfacial su…
We report high-pressure induced superconductivity in boron nanowires (BNWs) with rhombohedral crystal structure. Obviously different from bulk rhombohedral boron, these BNWs show a semiconductor-metal transition at much lower pressure than bulk boron. Also, we found these BNWs become superconductors with Tc=1.5 K at 84 GPa, at the pressure of which bulk boron is still a semiconductor, via in-situ resistance measurements in a diamond anvil cell. With increasing pressure, Tc of the BNWs increases. The occurrence of superconductivity in the BNWs at a pressure as low as 84 GPa probably arises from…
One approach to discovering topological superconductor is establishing superconductivity based on well-identified topological insulators. However, the coexistence of superconductivity and topological state is always arcane. In this paper, we report how pressure tunes the crystal structure, electronic structure, and superconductivity in topological insulator Bi2Te2.1Se0.9. The first pressure-induced structure transition start from 8.4 GPa, followed by the structure sequence of R-3m - C2/m - C2/c - Im-3m up to 37 GPa. Superconductivity starts to present at 2.4 GPa with the Tc around 6.6 K. Moreo…
Over the past six years, superconductivity at high temperatures has been reported in a variety of hydrogen-rich compounds under high pressure. That high-temperature superconductivity should exist in these materials is expected according to the conventional theory of superconductivity, as shown by detailed calculations. However here we argue that experimental observations rule out conventional superconductivity in these materials. Our results indicate that either these materials are unconventional superconductors of a novel kind, which we term `nonstandard superconductors', or alternatively tha…
CaFe2As2 single crystals under uniaxial pressure applied along the c axis exhibit the coexistence of several structural phases at low temperatures. We show that the room-temperature tetragonal phase is stabilized at low temperatures for pressures above 0.06 GPa, and its weight fraction attains a maximum in the region where superconductivity is observed under applied uniaxial pressure. Simultaneous resistivity measurements strongly suggest that this phase is responsible for the superconductivity in CaFe2As2 found below 10 K in samples subjected to nonhydrostatic pressure conditions.
Superconductivity at temperatures up to 190 K at high pressures has recently been observed in $H_2S$ and interpreted as conventional BCS-electron-phonon-driven superconductivity.\cite{h2s} Instead we propose that it is another example of the mechanism of hole superconductivity at work. Within this mechanism high temperature superconductivity arises when holes conduct through negatively charged anions in close proximity. We propose that electron transfer from $H$ to $S$ leads to conduction by holes in a nearly full band arising from direct overlap of $S^=$ $p$ orbitals in a planar structure. Th…
We report a high-pressure single crystal study of the topological superconductor Cu$_x$Bi$_2$Se$_3$. Resistivity measurements under pressure show superconductivity is depressed smoothly. At the same time the metallic behavior is gradually lost. The upper critical field data $B_{c2}(T)$ under pressure collapse onto a universal curve. The absence of Pauli limiting and the comparison of $B_{c2}(T)$ to a polar state function point to spin-triplet superconductivity, but an anisotropic spin-singlet state cannot be discarded completely.
We report $^{75}$As NMR measurements in CaFe$_2$As$_2$, made under applied pressures up to 0.83 GPa produced by a standard clamp pressure cell. Our data reveal phase segregation of paramagnetic (PM) and antiferromagnetic (AFM) phases over a range of pressures, with the AFM phase more than 90 % dominant at low temperatures. In situ RF susceptibility measurements indicate the presence of superconductivity. $^{75}$As spin-lattice relaxation experiments indicate that the $^{75}$As nuclei sample the superconductivity while in the magnetically-ordered environment.
Pressure-induced superconductivity and its relation to corresponding Hall coefficient (RH) have been reported for Bi2Te3, one of known topological insulators. A full phase diagram is presented which shows a complex dependence of the superconducting transition temperature as a function of pressure over an extensive range. High-pressure RH measurements reveal a close relation of these complex behaviors, particularly, a dramatic change of dRH/dP before structural phase transition and a pressure-induced crossover on RH in the high pressure phase were observed.
The Meissner effect, magnetic field expulsion, is a hallmark of superconductivity. Associated with it, superconductors exclude applied magnetic fields. Recently Minkov et al. presented experimental results reportedly showing "definitive evidence of the Meissner effect" in sulfur hydride and lanthanum hydride under high pressure [1], and more recently Eremets et al. argued that "the arguments against superconductivity (in hydrides) can be either refuted or explained" [2]. Instead, we show here that the evidence presented in those papers does not support the case for superconductivity in these m…
A series of high-pressure resistivity measurements on single crystals of TbTe3 reveal a complex phase diagram involving the interplay of superconducting, antiferromagnetic and charge density wave orders. The onset of superconductivity reaches a maximum of ~ 3.5 K (onset) near 75 kbar.
Hydrides offer an opportunity to study high-temperature (Tc) superconductivity at experimentally achievable pressures. However, they remained extremely high. Using density functional theory calculations, herein we demonstrated that a newly rare earth hydride, namely bulk ErH2, could be superconducting with a Tc around 80 K at 14.5 GPa. To date, the drived pressure is the lowest reported value for compressed hydrides. Besides superconductivity, Fermi Surface nesting and Kondo effect were manifested at this pressure. Intriguingly, due to Kondo destruction, superconductivity was prone to exist at…
We report the discovery of superconductivity on the border of long-range magnetic order in the itinerant-electron helimagnet MnP via the application of high pressure. Superconductivity with Tsc~1 K emerges and exists merely near the critical pressure Pc~8 GPa, where the long-range magnetic order just vanishes. The present finding makes MnP the first Mn-based superconductor. The close proximity of superconductivity to a magnetic instability suggests an unconventional pairing mechanism. Moreover, the detailed analysis of the normal-state transport properties evidenced non-Fermi-liquid behavior a…
The recent report of superconductivity under high pressure at the record transition temperature of Tc=203K in sulfur hydride has been identified as conventional in view of the observation of an isotope effect upon deuteration. Here it is demonstrated that conventional theories of superconductivity in the sense of BCS or Eliashberg formalisms can neither account for the observed values of Tc nor the pressure dependence of the isotope coefficient. The only way out of the dilemma is a multi-band approach of superconductivity where already small interband coupling suffices to achieve the high valu…
We have investigated uniaxial and hydrostatic pressure effects on superconductivity in Fe1.07Te0.88S0.12 through magnetic-susceptibility measurements down to 1.8 K. The superconducting transition temperature Tc is enhanced by out-of-plane pressure (uniaxial pressure along the c-axis); the onset temperature of the superconductivity reaches 11.8 K at 0.4 GPa. In contrast, Tc is reduced by in-plane pressure (uniaxial pressure along the ab-plane) and hydrostatic pressure. Taking into account these results, it is inferred that the superconductivity of Fe1+yTe1-xSx is enhanced when the lattice const…
Pressure induced superconductivity in non-centrosymmetric CeRhSi$_{3}$ and CeIrSi$_{3}$ compounds has attracted significant attention of the scientific community since its discovery 15 years ago. Up-to-date, all reported experimental results were obtained employing the hybrid-cylinder piston pressure cells with a maximum reachable pressure of 3 GPa. Present study focuses on the superconducting state at higher, so far unreported, pressures using the Bridgman anvil cell and a CeRhSi$_{3}$ single crystal synthesized by the Sn-true-flux method. The initial increase of superconducting critical temp…
A mixture of Mg and MgO has been subjected to a shock-wave pressure of 170 kbar. The ac susceptibility measurements of the product has revealed a metastable superconductivity with Tc=30 K, characterized by glassy dynamics of the shielding currents below Tc. Comparison of the ac susceptibility and the dc magnetization measurements infers that the superconductivity arises within the interfacial layer formed between metallic Mg and its oxide due to the shock-wave treatment.
We report resistivity measurement under pressure in single crystals of SrFe_2As_2, which is one of the parent materials of Fe-based superconductors. The structural and antiferromagnetic (AFM) transition of T_0 = 198 K at ambient pressure is suppressed under pressure, and the ordered phase disappears above P_c ~ 3.6-3.7 GPa. Superconductivity with a sharp transition appears accompanied by the suppression of the AFM state. T_c exhibits a maximum of 34.1 K, which is realized close to the phase boundary at P_c. This T_c is the highest among those of the stoichiometric Fe-based superconductors.
Using a diamond anvil cell with nearly hydrostatic helium pressure medium we have significantly extended the superconducting phase diagram Tc(P) of Sc, the lightest of all transition metals. We find that superconductivity is induced in Sc under pressure, Tc increasing monotonically to 8.2 K at 74.2 GPa. The Tc(P) dependences of the trivalent d-electron metals Sc, Y, La, and Lu are compared and discussed within a simple s-d charge transfer framework.
The recent discovery of superconductivity in heavy Fermion compound UTe2, a candidate topological and triplet-paired superconductor, has aroused widespread interest. However, to date, there is no consensus on whether the stoichiometric sample of UTe2 is superconducting or not due to lack of reliable evidence to distinguish the difference between the nominal and real compositions of samples. Here, we are the first to clarify that the stoichiometric UT2 is non-superconducting at ambient pressure and under hydrostatic pressure up to 6 GPa, however we find that it can be compressed into supercondu…
Layered transition-metal tellurides have attracted considerable attention because of their rich physics; for example, tungsten ditelluride WTe2 exhibits extremely large magnetoresistance; the tritelluride ZrTe3 shows a charge density wave transition at low temperature; and the pentatelluride ZrTe5 displays an enigmatic resistivity anomaly and large thermoelectric power. Recently some transition-metal tellurides are predicted to be quantum spin Hall insulators (e.g. ZrTe5 and HfTe5) or Weyl semimetals (e.g. WTe2 and MoTe2) and were subjected to intensive investigations. Here, we report on the d…
Superconductivity and topological quantum states are two frontier fields of research in modern condensed matter physics. The realization of superconductivity in topological materials is highly desired, however, superconductivity in such materials is typically limited to two- or three-dimensional materials and is far from being thoroughly investigated. In this work, we boost the electronic properties of the quasi-one-dimensional topological insulator bismuth iodide \b{eta}-Bi4I4 by applying high pressure. Superconductivity is observed in \b{eta}-Bi4I4 for pressures where the temperature depende…
We report the impact of hydrostatic pressure (0-1.97GPa) on superconductivity of recently discovered 2K superconductor Sr0.5La0.5FBiS2. Resistivity under pressure measurements are performed by using HPC-33 Piston type pressure cell with Quantum design DC resistivity Option. The superconducting transition temperature (Tc) is increased by 5 fold to around 10K with just above 1GPa pressure, which remains nearly unaltered for studied higher pressures of up to 1.97GPa. The fivefold increase in Tc of Sr0.5La0.5FBiS2 with just above 1GPa pressure suggests very strong electron correlations in these sy…
Novel BiS2-based superconductors LaO1-xFxBiS2 prepared by the high pressure synthesis technique were systematically studied. It was found that the high pressure annealing strongly the lattice as compared to the LaO1-xFxBiS2 samples prepared by conventional solid state reaction at ambient pressure. Bulk superconductivity was observed within a wide F-concentration range of x = 0.2 ~ 0.7. On the basis of those results, we have established a phase diagram of LaO1-xFxBiS2.
By performing high-pressure single-crystal neutron diffraction measurements, the evolution of structure and magnetic ordering in EuFe2As2 under hydrostatic pressure were investigated. Both the tetragonal-toorthorhombic structural transition and the Fe spin-density-wave (SDW) transition are gradually suppressed and become decoupled with increasing pressure. The antiferromagnetic order of the Eu sublattice is, however, robust against the applied pressure up to 24.7 kbar, without showing any change of the ordering temperature. Under the pressure of 24.7 kbar, the lattice parameters of EuFe2As2 di…
In this paper, pressure effect on superconductivity and magnetism has been investigated in FeSex (x = 0.80, 0.88). The magnetization curves display anomaly at Ts1 106 K and Ts2 78 K except for the superconducting diamagnetic transition around Tc 8 K. The magnetic anomaly at Ts1 and Ts2 can be related to a ferromagnetic and an antiferromagnetic phase transition, respectively, as revealed by specific heat measurements. The application of pressure not only raises Tc, but also increases both Ts1 and Ts2. This system shows clear evidence that superconductivity arises in a phase with strong magnetic…
We report a high-pressure single-crystal study of the non-centrosymmetric superconductor YPtBi ($T_c = 0.77$ K). Magnetotransport measurements show a weak metallic behavior with a carrier concentration $n \simeq 2.2 \times 10^{19}$ cm$^{-3}$. Resistivity measurements up to $p = 2.51$ GPa reveal superconductivity is promoted by pressure. The reduced upper critical field $B_{c2}(T)$ curves collapse onto a single curve, with values that exceed the model values for spin-singlet superconductivity. The $B_{c2}$ data point to an odd-parity component in the superconducting order parameter, in accordan…
We report specific-heat and resistivity experiments performed in parallel in a Bridgman-type of pressure cell in order to investigate the nature of pressure-induced superconductivity in the iron pnictide compound CaFe2As2. The presence of a pronounced specific-heat anomaly at Tc reveals a bulk nature of the superconducting state. The thermodynamic transition temperature differs dramatically from the onset of the resistive transition. Our data indicates that superconductivity occurs in the vicinity of a crystallographic phase transition. We discuss the discrepancy between the two methods as cau…
Using non-resonant Fe K-beta x-ray emission spectroscopy, we reveal that Sr-doping of CaFe2As2 decouples the Fe moment from the volume collapse transition, yielding a collapsed-tetragonal, paramagnetic normal state out of which superconductivity develops. X-ray diffraction measurements implicate the c-axis lattice parameter as the controlling criterion for the Fe moment, promoting a generic description for the appearance of pressure-induced superconductivity in the alkaline-earth-based 122 ferropnictides (AFe2As2). The evolution of the superconducting critical temperature with pressure lends s…
Here we report the observation of superconductivity in pressurized type-II Weyl semimetal (WSM) candidate TaIrTe4 by means of complementary high-pressure transport and synchrotron X-ray diffraction measurements. We find that TaIrTe4 shows superconductivity with transition temperature (TC) of 0.57 K at the pressure of ~23.8 GPa. Then, the TC value increases with pressure and reaches ~2.1 K at 65.7 GPa. In situ high-pressure Hall coefficient (RH) measurements at low temperatures demonstrate that the positive RH increases with pressure until the critical pressure of the superconducting transition…
The rich phenomena in the FeSe and related compounds have attracted great interests as it provides fertile material to gain further insight into the mechanism of high temperature superconductivity. A natural follow-up work was to look into the possibility of superconductivity in MnSe. It was shown that MnP becomes superconducting with Tc ~ 1 K under pressure. We demonstrated in this work that high pressure can effectively suppress the complex magnetic characters of MnSe crystal when observed at ambient condition. MnSe under pressure is found to undergo several structural transformations: the c…
The temperature dependence of the ac susceptibility for single-crystalline Fe1.02Se has been measured at high pressures to 6.7 GPa. The superconducting transition temperature Tc displays a large increase from 7 K to 30 K in the two-phase region at 0.5 - 1 GPa. Further increase in pressure results in the decrease of Tc. The destruction of superconductivity near 7 GPa is presumably related to a structural transition from orthorhombic to hexagonal. .
