We investigate the nuclear modification factor ($R_{AA}$) of identified particles as a function of transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=$ 2.76 and 5.02 TeV, as well as p-Pb collision at 5.02 TeV in the framework of Boltzmann transport equation with relaxation time approximation. In this framework, the initial distribution of particles is chosen as the Tsallis distribution and the local equilibrium distribution as the Boltzmann-Gibbs blast-wave distribution. The non-extensive parameter $q_{pp}$, the Tsallis temperature $T_{pp}$ and the equilibrium temperature $T_{eq}$ are set to be in common for all particles, while the ratio of kinetic freeze-out time to relaxation time $t_{f}/τ$ is different for different particles when we performed a combined fit to the $R_{AA}$ spectra of different particles at a given centrality. We observe that the fitted curves describe the spectra well up to $p_{\rm T}\approx$ 3 GeV/c. $q_{pp}$ and $T_{eq}$ ($t_{f}/τ$) decrease (increases) with centrality nonlinearly, while $T_{pp}$ is almost independent of centrality. The dependence of the rate at which $q_{pp}$, $T_{eq}$ or $t_{f}/τ$ changes with centrality on the energy and the size of the colliding system is discussed.
The Boltzmann-Langevin dynamics of harmonic modes in nuclear matter is analyzed within linear-response theory, both with an elementary treatment and by using the frequency-dependent response function. It is shown how the source terms agitating the modes can be obtained from the basic BL correlation kernel by a simple projection onto the associated dual basis states, which are proportional to the RPA amplitudes and can be expressed explicitly. The source terms for the correlated agitation of any two such modes can then be extracted directly, without consideration of the other modes. This facili…
We investigate the stochastic Direct Simulation Monte Carlo method (DSMC) for numerically solving the collision-term in heavy-ion transport theories of the Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (BUU) type. The first major modification we consider is changes in the collision rates due to excluded volume and shadowing/screening effects (Enskog theory). The second effect studied by us is the inclusion of an additional advection term. These modifications ensure a non-vanishing second virial and change the equation of state for the scattering process from that of an ideal gas to that of a hard-sphere gas. We…
Employing QCD sum rules the in-medium modifications of scalar charm mesons in a cold nuclear matter environment are estimated. The mass splitting of D*-D*-bar is quantified.
In this paper we present a phenomenological treatment of charm quark energy loss before fragmenting into D mesons and calculate nuclear modification factor, '$R_{AA}$' and azimuthal anisotropy, '$v_2$' of D mesons for lead on lead collision at LHC energy of $\sqrt{s}$=2.76 A TeV.
Due to large pi N --> Delta cross section a pion acquires a large width in nuclear matter. Therefore, a Delta-resonance decaying in the nuclear medium can produce far off-shell pions, which will gradually lose their virtuality while propagating to the vacuum. To describe such off-shell dynamics, we implemented a pion spectral function for finite nuclear matter density -- calculated on the basis of the Delta-hole model -- in the BUU transport approach. The pion off-shell dynamics leads to an enhancement of the low-p_t pion yields in the collisions of Au+Au at 1 A GeV.
We present a model for the description of nuclear matter and finite nuclei, and at the same time, for the study of medium modifications of nucleon properties. The nucleons are described as nontopological solitons which interact through the self-consistent exchange of scalar and vector mesons. The model explicitly incorporates quark degrees of freedom into nuclear many-body systems and provides satisfactory results on the nuclear properties. The present model predicts a significant increase of the nucleon radius at normal nuclear matter density. It is very interesting to see the nucleon propert…
Non-equilibrium modifications of the nuclear equation of state are assessed in the framework of Extended Irreversible Thermodynamics. The expected size of the non-equilibrium corrections to quantities like the nuclear-matter incompressibility $K$ and the liquid-vapor critical temperature $T_c$ are compared to the uncertainties associated at present with the usual equilibrium values. The quantitative estimates are obtained in situations characterized by a stationary planar shear flow of realistic magnitude, or by a stationary temperature gradient.
In this work, we propose a method to show the correspondence between hadron and its quark component nuclear modification factors. A parton and hadron cascade model PACIAE based on the PYTHIA6.4 is employed to calculate the hadron and its quark component nuclear modification factors in the 0-5\% most central $Pb+Pb$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=2.76 TeV. It turns out that the hadron nuclear modification factor is usually smaller than that of its quark component. On the other hand, it is shown in our study that the "dead cone effect" is more likely to be identified with the quarks and mesons bu…
Within the self-consistent Green's functions formalism, we study the effects of three-body forces on the in-medium spectral function, self-energy and effective mass of the nuclear matter constituents, analyzing the density and momentum dependence.
Two recent experiments have demonstrated that the effective $ρ$-mass in nuclear medium, as extracted from the $^3He(γ, π^+ π^-)$ reaction, is substantially reduced. This has been advocated as an indication of partial restoration of chiral symmetry in nuclear matter. We show that even in the absence of chiral symmetry, effective mean field nuclear matter models can explain these findings quantitatively.
We discuss an asymmetry of the decay $ω->e^+e^-$ in nuclear matter with respect to the electron and positron energies. This asymmetry is sensitive to the properties of the $ω$ meson self-energy and, in particular, it has a non-trivial dependence on the $ω$ energy and momentum. Therefore, this asymmetry may serve as a powerful tool in studying the properties of the $ω$ meson in the nuclear medium.
We study the medium modifications of baryon properties in nuclear many-body systems, especially in $Λ$ hypernuclei. The nucleon and the $Λ$ hyperon are described in the Friedberg-Lee model as nontopological solitons which interact through the self-consistent exchange of scalar and vector mesons. The quark degrees of freedom are explicitly considered in the model, so that the medium effects on baryons could be investigated. It is found that the model can provide reasonable descriptions for nuclear matter, finite nuclei, and $Λ$ hypernuclei. The present model predicts a significant increase of t…
Correlations born before the onset of hydrodynamic flow can leave observable traces on the final state particles. Measurement of these correlations can yield important information on the isotropization and thermalization process. Starting from a Boltzmann-like kinetic theory in the presence of dynamic Langevin noise, we derive a new partial differential equation for the two-particle correlation function that respects the microscopic conservation laws. We illustrate how this equation can be used to study the effect of thermalization on long range correlations.
We present our studies on jet-induced modifications of the characteristic of the bulk nuclear matter. To describe such a matter, we use efficient relativistic hydrodynamic simulations in (3+1) dimensions employing the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) in the parallel programming framework. We use Cartesian coordinates in the calculations to ensure a high spatial resolution that is constant throughout the evolution of the system. We show our results on how jets modify the hydrodynamics fields and discuss the implications.
In the continuation of our previous work, the transverse momentum ($p_T$) spectra and nuclear modification factor ($R_{AA}$) are derived using relaxation time approximation of Boltzmann Transport Equation (BTE). The initial $p_T$-distribution used to describe $p+p$ collisions has been studied with the pQCD inspired power-law distribution, the Hagedorn's empirical formula and with the Tsallis non-extensive statistical distribution. The non-extensive Tsallis distribution is observed to describe the complete range of the transverse momentum spectra. The Boltzmann-Gibbs Blast Wave (BGBW) distribut…
We study the nuclear effects in the electromagnetic structure function F2(x,Q^2) in nuclei in the deep inelastic lepton nucleus scattering process by taking into account Fermi motion, binding, pion and rho meson cloud contributions. Calculations have been done in a local density approximation using relativistic nuclear spectral functions which include nucleon correlations for nuclear matter. The ratios over deuteron structure function are obtained and compared with the recent JLAB results for light nuclei with special attention to the slope of the x distributions. This magnitude shows a non tr…
Within the statistical multifragmentation model we study modifications of the surface and symmetry energy of primary fragments in the freeze-out volume. The ALADIN experimental data on multifragmentation obtained in reactions induced by high-energy projectiles with different neutron richness are analyzed. We have extracted the isospin dependence of the surface energy coefficient at different degrees of fragmentation. We conclude that the surface energy of hot fragments produced in multifragmentation reactions differs from the values extracted for isolated nuclei at low excitation. At high frag…
The influence of the nuclear medium upon the internal structure of a composite nucleon is examined. The interaction with the medium is assumed to depend on the relative distances between the quarks in the nucleon consistent with the notion of color neutrality, and to be proportional to the nucleon density. In the resulting description the nucleon in matter is a superposition of the ground state (free nucleon) and radial excitations. The effects of the nuclear medium on the electromagnetic and weak nucleon form factors, and the nucleon structure function are computed using a light-front constit…
The Maxwell-Boltzmannian approach to nuclear reaction rate theory is extended to cover Tsallis statistics (Tsallis, 1988) and more general cases of distribution functions. An analytical study of respective thermonuclear functions is being conducted with the help of statistical techniques. The pathway model, recently introduced by Mathai (2005), is utilized for thermonuclear functions and closed-form representations are obtained in terms of H-functions and G-functions. Maxwell-Boltzmannian thermonuclear functions become particular cases of the extended thermonuclear functions. A brief review on…
Within the transport BUU theory we study the influence of the choice for the $Δ$ resonance lifetime on pion-nucleus reactions and on heavy-ion collisions at 1 A GeV. A quite small effect of these modifications on the pion absorption on nuclei is found provided that the absorption probability of the $Δ$ resonance is modified consistently. Observable effects in the case of heavy-ion collisions are demonstrated.
Using the Boltzmann-radiation-hydrodynamics code, which solves the Boltzmann equation for neutrino transport, we present the results of the simulations with the nuclear equations of state (EOSs) of Lattimer and Swesty (LS) and Furusawa and Shen (FS). We extend the simulation time of the LS model and conduct thorough investigations, though our previous paper briefly reported some of the results. Only the LS model shows the shock revival. This seems to originate from the nuclear composition: the different nuclear composition results in the different energy loss by photodissociation and hence the…
A full implementation of the Boltzmann-Langevin equation for fermionic systems is introduced in a transport model for dissipative collisions among heavy nuclei. Fluctuations are injected in phase space and not, like in more conventional approaches, as a projection on suitable subspaces. The advantage of this model is to be specifically adapted to describe processes characterised by instabilities, like the formation of fragments from a hot nuclear system, and by dissipation, like the transparency in nucleus-nucleus collisions.
The influence of the stellar plasma on the production and destruction of K-isomers is studied for the examples 176Lu and 180Ta. Individual electromagnetic transitions are enhanced predominantly by nuclear excitation by electron capture, whereas the other mechanisms of electron scattering and nuclear excitation by electron transition give only minor contributions. It is found that individual transitions can be enhanced significantly for low transition energies below 100 keV. Transitions with higher energies above 200 keV are practically not affected. Although one low-energy transition in 180Ta …
We discuss the properties of baryons within the framework of the in-medium modified SU(3) Skyrme model. The modification is performed by a minimal way, the medium functionals in the SU(2) sector being introduced. These functionals are then related to nuclear matter properties near the saturation point. The modifications in the SU(3) sector are performed with the additional changes of kaon properties in nuclear matter. The results show that the properties of baryons in the strange sector are sensitive to the in-medium modifications of the kaon properties. The consistency of the in-medium modifi…
Predictions of elliptic flow ($v_2$) and nuclear modification factor ($R_{AA}$) are provided as a function of centrality in U + U collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}$ = 200 GeV. Since the $^{238}$U nucleus is naturally deformed, one could adjust the properties of the fireball, density and duration of the hot and dense system, for example, in high energy nuclear collisions by carefully selecting the colliding geometry. Within our Monte Carlo Glauber based approach, the $v_2$ with respect to the reaction plane $v_2^{RP}$ in U + U collisions is consistent with that in Au + Au collisions, while the $v…
The medium modification of dihadron fragmentation functions in the deeply inelastic scattering (DIS) off a large nucleus is studied within the framework of the higher-twist expansion in the collinear factorization formalism. It is demonstrated that the modification due to multiple parton scattering in the nuclear medium is similar to that of the single hadron fragmentation function. However, the conditional distribution of the associated hadron given by the ratio of dihadron to single hadron fragmentation function shows only slight modification. The final results depend modestly on the nuclear…
We compare the jet-path length and beam-energy dependence of the pion nuclear modification factor and a parton-jet nuclear modification factor at RHIC and LHC. We contrast predictions based on a linear pQCD and a highly non-linear hybrid-AdS holographic model of jet-energy loss. We find that both models require a reduction of the jet-medium coupling from RHIC to LHC to account for the measured pion nuclear modification factor. In case of the parton-jet nuclear modification factor, however, which serves as a lower bound for the LO jet nuclear modification factor of reconstructed jets, the extra…
The past decade has provided a much clearer picture of the structure of high-momentum components in nucleons, associated with hard, short-distance interactions between pairs of nucleons. Recent Jefferson Lab data on light nuclei suggest a connection between these so-called 'short-range correlations' and the modification of the quark structure of nucleons in the nuclear environment. In light of this discovery that the detailed nuclear structure is important in describing the nuclear quark distributions, we examine the potential impact of the isospin-dependent structure of nuclei to see at what …
Quarkonium suppression is one of the more useful observables to obtain information about the hot medium created in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. In this manuscript, we discuss a simple way to implement both the initial-state effects and the hot-medium evolution, and to compute the quarkonium nuclear modification factor if the survival probability for a bound state at a given energy density is known. Based on the Glauber model, the temperature of the evolving medium and the centrality dependence of the nuclear modification factor will be analysed.
With our coupled jet-fluid model, we study the nuclear modifications of full jets and jet structures for single inclusive jet and $γ$-jet events in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The evolution of full jet showers is studied via a set of coupled transport equations including the effects of collisional energy loss, transverse momentum broadening and medium-induced splitting. The dynamics of the jet energy and momentum deposited into the medium is described by hydrodynamic equations with source terms. Our detailed analysis indicates that collisional absorption (energy loss) tends to narrow th…
Using a recently-developed perturbative-QCD approach for jet evolution in a dense quark-gluon plasma, we study the nuclear modification factor for the jet fragmentation function. The qualitative behaviour that we find is in agreement with the respective experimental observations in Pb+Pb collisions at the LHC: a pronounced nuclear enhancement at both ends of the spectrum. Our Monte Carlo simulations are supplemented with analytic estimates which clarify the physical interpretation of the results. The main source of theoretical uncertainty is the sensitivity of our calculations to a low-momentu…
We study the effect of the nucleon meson cloud on centrality dependence of the jet nuclear modification factor $R_{pA}$. We find that the meson-baryon Fock components may lead to a noticeable deviation of $R_{pA}$ from unity. Our results for $R_{pA}$ show the same tendency as that observed by ATLAS in $p+Pb$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=5.02$ TeV. The meson cloud suppresses the central jet events and enhances the peripheral jet events. But quantitatively the effect is somewhat smaller than in the data.
We discuss nuclear modification of fragmentation functions in the context of the so-called ``rescaling models''. These models implement partial deconfinement inside nuclei by modifying the fragmentation functions perturbatively. We apply these models to the analysis of nuclear hadron production in deep inelastic scattering processes at the HERMES and EMC experiments.
One of the latest trends in the advancement of experimental high-energy physics is to identify the quark gluon plasma (QGP) predicted qualitatively by quantum chromodynamics (QCD). We discuss whether nuclear transparency effect which is considered an important phenomenon, connected with dynamics of hadron-nuclear and nuclear-nuclear interactions could reflect some particular properties of the medium. FASTMC is used for Au-Au collision at RHIC energies. Critical change in the transparency is considered a signal on the appearance of new phases of strongly interacting matter and the QGP.
The suppression of the nuclear modification factor for heavy flavor hadrons is usually attributed to the energy loss of heavy quarks propagating in a QCD plasma. Nevertheless it is puzzling that the suppression is as strong as for light flavors. We show that when accounting for the quark momentum shift associated to the opening of the recombination/coalescence channel for hadron production in the plasma, it is not necessary to invoke such strong energy loss. This shift is expressed in terms of an increase of the heavy baryon to meson ratio in nuclear with respect to proton collisions. When thi…
We investigate the medium modification of the generalized vector form factors of the nucleon, which include the electromagnetic and energy-momentum tensor form factors, based on an in-medium modified $π$-$ρ$-$ω$ soliton model. We find that the vector form factors of the nucleon in nuclear matter fall off faster than those in free space, which implies that the charge radii of the nucleon become larger in nuclear medium than in free space. We also compute the corresponding transverse charge densities of the nucleon in nuclear matter, which clearly reveal the increasing of the nucleon size in nuc…
In nuclear matter at neutron-star densities and temperatures, Cooper pairing leads to the formation of a gap in the nucleon excitation spectra resulting in exponentially strong Boltzmann suppression of many transport coefficients. Previous calculations have shown evidence that density oscillations of sufficiently large amplitude can overcome this suppression for flavor-changing $β$ processes, via the mechanism of "gap bridging". We address the simplifications made in that initial work, and show that gap bridging can counteract Boltzmann suppression of neutrino emissivity for the realistic case…
We re-evaluate the nuclear suppression of forward $J/ψ$ production at high energy in the Color Glass Condensate framework. We use the collinear approximation for the projectile proton probed at large $x$ and an up to date dipole cross section fitted to HERA data to describe the target in proton-proton collisions. We show that using the Glauber approach to generalize the proton dipole cross section to the case of a nucleus target leads to a nuclear modification factor much closer to LHC data than previous estimates using the same framework.
In order to test the NMC finding of flavor asymmetry $\overline u-\overline d$ in the nucleon, existing Drell-Yan data for the tungsten target are often used. However, we have to be careful in comparing nuclear data with the nucleon ones. We investigate whether there exists significant nuclear modification of the $\overline u - \overline d$ distribution in a parton-recombination model. It should be noted that a finite $\overline u - \overline d$ distribution is theoretically possible in nuclei even if the sea is symmetric in the nucleon. In neutron-excess nuclei such as the tungsten, there exi…
The nuclear modification factor is derived using Tsallis non-extensive statistics in relaxation time approximation. The variation of nuclear modification factor with transverse momentum for different values of non-extensive parameter, $q$, is also observed. The experimental data from RHIC and LHC are analysed in the framework of Tsallis non-extensive statistics in a relaxation time approximation. It is shown that the proposed approach explains the $R_{AA}$ of all particles over a wide range of transverse momenta but doesn't seem to describe the rise in $R_{AA}$ at very high transverse momenta.
We present a comprehensive study of mass modifications of scalar, pseudo-scalar, vector, and axial-vector mesons in nuclear matter using the three-flavor extended Linear Sigma Model (eLSM) and the two-flavor Parity Doublet Model (PDM). The meson masses in nuclear matter are determined by calculating the one-loop nucleon corrections to the meson mean fields. As a result, we find all spin-$0$ meson masses except those of the pion, kaon, and the lightest scalar-isoscalar mesons decrease at finite baryon density. For spin-$1$ mesons, masses of all axial-vector mesons decrease in medium, and the de…
Nuclear modification factor ($R_{cp}$) of protons and pions are investigated by simulating Au + Au collisions from 0.8 to 1.8$A$ GeV in a framework of an isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics (IQMD) model. $R_{cp}$ of protons rises with the increase of \pt~ at different beam energies owing to radial flow and Cronin effect. The rate of increase of \rcp~ is suppressed at higher beam energies. The significant difference of $R_{cp}$ between protons and pions indicates different medium effects between protons and pions. By changing the in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross section, the $R_{cp}$ of…
We investigated a nuclear modification difference between up- and down-valence quark distributions by analyzing structure function F_2 and Drell-Yan cross-section ratios. Although nuclear modifications of the valence-quark distributions themselves are rather well determined, it is difficult to find their difference from the present data. We estimated such an effect on the NuTeV sin^2 theta_W value and its uncertainty by the Hessian method. At this stage, it is not large enough to explain the whole NuTeV anomaly. However, the modification difference cannot be precisely determined, so that furth…
The number of constituent quarks (NCQ-) scaling of hadrons and the number of constituent nucleons (NCN-) scaling of light nuclei are proposed for nuclear modification factors ($R_{cp}$) of hadrons and light nuclei, respectively, according to the experimental investigations in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Based on coalescence mechanism the scalings are performed for pions and protons in quark level, and light nuclei $d (\bar d)$ and $^3$He for nucleonic level, respectively, formed in Au + Au and Pb + Pb collisions and nice scaling behaviour emerges. NCQ or NCN scaling law of $R_{cp}$ can …
We study the medium modification of jets correlated with large transverse momentum photons at the LHC via a transport and perturbative QCD hybrid model which incorporates the contributions from both elastic collisions and radiative energy loss experienced by the parton showers. Calculations are performed for the modification of the photon-tagged jet yield, the photon-jet energy imbalance, and the azimuthal distribution of away-side jets. The modifications of photon-tagged jets with different $x_T = p_{T, J}/p_{T, γ}$ values are studied and they exhibit different centrality and jet cone size de…
The present article investigates the role of heavy nuclear clusters and weakly bound light nuclear clusters based on a newly developed equation of state for core collapse supernova studies. A novel approach is brought forward for the description of nuclear clusters, taking into account the quasiparticle approach and continuum correlations. It demonstrates that the commonly employed nuclear statistical equilibrium approach, based on non-interacting particles, for the description of light and heavy clusters becomes invalid for warm nuclear matter near the saturation density. This has important c…
In this article, we investigate the potential of low-mass lepton pair production in proton-ion collisions at the LHC to constrain nuclear modifications of parton densities. Similarly to prompt photon production, the transverse momentum spectrum is shown to be dominated by the QCD Compton process, but has virtually no fragmentation or isolation uncertainties. Depending on the orientation of the proton and ion beams and on the use of central or forward detector components, all interesting regions of nuclear effects (shadowing, antishadowing, isospin and EMC effects) can be probed. Ratios of cros…
We investigate a possible nuclear correction to the NuTeV measurement of the weak-mixing angle sin^2 theta_W. In particular, a nuclear modification difference between u_v and d_v distributions contributes to the NuTeV measurement with the iron target. First, the modification differenceis determined by a chi^2 analysis so as to reproduce nuclear data on the structure function F_2 and Drell-Yan processes. Then, taking the NuTeV kinematics into account, we calculate a contribution to the sin^2 theta_W determination. In addition, its uncertainty is estimated by the Hessian method. Although the unc…
It has been argued recently that the so-called nuclear modification factor ($R_{AA}$) is an observable useful for identifying the quark-gluon plasma. We discuss the effect of Fermi motion in nuclei on $R_{AA}$ at CERN SPS and BNL RHIC energies. Contrary to the simple intuition, rather large effects are found for CERN SPS. The Fermi motion in nuclei contributes significantly to the Cronin effect. The effect found is qualitatively similar to the one observed experimentally at CERN energies and similar to the one obtained in the models of multiple scattering of initial partons. We predict differe…
The event generator based on the higher-twist energy loss formalism -- Modular All Twist Transverse-scattering Elastic-drag and Radiation (MATTER) -- is further developed and coupled to a hydrodynamic model for studying jet modification in relativistic nuclear collisions. The probability of parton splitting is calculated using the Sudakov form factor that is constructed by a combination of vacuum and medium-induced splitting functions; and the full parton showers are simulated, including both energy-momentum and space-time evolutions of all jet partons. With the assumption that partons below a…

The vacuum spectrum of the $ϕ$-meson is characterized by its decay into $K{\bar K} $. Modifications of the $K {\bar K}$-loops in baryonic matter change this spectrum. We calculate these in-medium modifications taking both s- and p-wave kaon-nucleon interactions into account. We use results of the in-medium $K$ and $\bar K$ spectra determined previously from a coupled channel approach based on a chiral effective Lagrangian. Altogether we find a very small shift of the $ϕ$ meson mass, by less than 10 MeV at normal nuclear matter density $ρ_0$. The in-medium decay width of the $ϕ$ meson increases…
The transverse momentum dependent nuclear modification factors (NMF), namely $R_{CP}$, is investigated for protons produced in Au + Au at 1$A$ GeV within the framework of the isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics (IQMD) model. It is found that the radial collective motion during the expansion stage affects the NMF at low transverse momentum a lot. By fitting the transverse mass spectra of protons with the distribution function from the Blast-Wave model, the magnitude of radial flow can be extracted. After removing the contribution from radial flow, the $R_{CP}$ can be regarded as a ther…
We investigate the nuclear effects on the transverse and longitudinal responses in the deep inelastic region due to the nuclear binding and nucleon Fermi motion. We display the role of the transverse-longitudinal admixture due to the transverse nucleon momentum. The mixing effect is appreciable at small Q^2 values, and gradually disappears at large Q^2 values. The nuclear modification is then dominated by the binding and Fermi-motion effects which are contained in the spectral function.
We calculate the nuclear modification factor ($R_{AA}$) of light hadrons by taking into account the initial state momentum anisotropy of the quark gluon plasma (QGP) expected to be formed in relativistic heavy ion collisions. Such an anisotropy can result from the initial rapid longitudinal expansion of the matter. A phenomenological model for the space time evolution of the anisotropic QGP is used to obtain the time dependence of the anisotropy parameter $ξ$ and the hard momentum scale, $p_{\rm hard}$. The result is then compared with the PHENIX experimental data to constrain the isotropizati…
