We present a comprehensive study of mass modifications of scalar, pseudo-scalar, vector, and axial-vector mesons in nuclear matter using the three-flavor extended Linear Sigma Model (eLSM) and the two-flavor Parity Doublet Model (PDM). The meson masses in nuclear matter are determined by calculating the one-loop nucleon corrections to the meson mean fields. As a result, we find all spin-$0$ meson masses except those of the pion, kaon, and the lightest scalar-isoscalar mesons decrease at finite baryon density. For spin-$1$ mesons, masses of all axial-vector mesons decrease in medium, and the density dependences of the $ρ$ and $ω$ meson masses strongly depend on the value of chiral invariant mass ($M_0$). Also, our results suggest $M_0\approx0.8\, {\rm GeV}$ is preferable.
We take into account the sigma meson cloud effect in the meson cloud model to calculate the distributions of light flavor sea quarks in the proton. Our calculation gives a better description of the data for $\bar{d}(x)/\bar{u}(x)$. We also provide a picture that the probability of finding a physical proton in a Fock state $|Nω> $ is reasonable small with a smaller cutoff $Λ_ω$.
We outline the extension of the globally chirally invariant Nf = 2 linear sigma model with vector and axial-vector degrees of freedom to Nf=3. We present preliminary results concerning the scalar meson masses.
The phase diagram at finite temperature and density is investigated in the framework of the Polyakov linear sigma model (PLSM) with three light quark flavors in the mean field approximation. It is found that in the PLSM, the three phase transitions, i.e, the chiral restoration of $u,d$ quarks, the chiral restoration of $s$ quark, and the deconfinement phase transition are independent. There exists two-flavor quarkyonic phase at low density and three-flavor quarkyonic phase at high density. The critical end point (CEP) which separating the crossover from the first-order line in the PLSM model i…
In this paper, we investigate the $η'N$ system using the three-flavor linear sigma model including the effect of flavor SU(3) symmetry breaking. The $η'N$ bound state is also found in the case including flavor symmetry breaking and coupling with the $ηN$ and $πN$ channels. The $η'N$ interaction becomes more attractive with the inclusion of flavor symmetry breaking, which causes mixing between the singlet and octet scalar mesons. The existence of such a bound state would have some impact on the $η'$-nucleus system, which is of interest from both theoretical and experimental viewpoints.
Chiral symmetry restoration at nonzero temperature is studied in the framework of the O(4) linear sigma model and the U(N_f)_r x U(N_f)_l linear sigma model with N_f=2,3, and 4 quark flavors. We investigate the temperature dependence of the masses of the scalar and pseudoscalar mesons, and the non-strange, strange, and charm condensates within the Hartree approximation as derived from the Cornwall-Jackiw-Tomboulis formalism. We find that the masses of the non-strange and strange mesons at nonzero temperature depend sensitively on the particular symmetry of the model and the number of light qua…
We study scalar, pseudoscalar, vector, and axial-vector mesons with non-strange and strange quantum numbers in the framework of a linear sigma model with global chiral $U(N_f)_L \times U(N_f)_R$ symmetry. We perform a global fit of meson masses, decay widths, as well as decay amplitudes. The quality of the fit is, for a hadronic model that does not consider isospin-breaking effects, surprisingly good. We also investigate the question whether the scalar $\bar{q}q$ states lie below or above 1 GeV and find the scalar states above 1 GeV to be preferred as $\bar{q}q$ states. Additionally, we also d…
The $SU(2)_A \times U(2)_V$-symmetric chiral linear sigma model in the presence of the axial anomaly is studied in the local-potential approximation of the Functional Renormalization Group (FRG). The renormalization group (RG) flow is investigated in a truncation which reproduces recent results for the $U(2)_A \times U(2)_V$-symmetric model in the limit of vanishing axial anomaly strength. We search for the conjectured O(4) fixed point in the presence of the $U(1)_A$ anomaly and analyze its stability properties.
The suppression of the nuclear modification factor for heavy flavor hadrons is usually attributed to the energy loss of heavy quarks propagating in a QCD plasma. Nevertheless it is puzzling that the suppression is as strong as for light flavors. We show that when accounting for the quark momentum shift associated to the opening of the recombination/coalescence channel for hadron production in the plasma, it is not necessary to invoke such strong energy loss. This shift is expressed in terms of an increase of the heavy baryon to meson ratio in nuclear with respect to proton collisions. When thi…
We study the restoration of chiral symmetry in linear sigma models with two quark flavors. The models taken into consideration have a U(2)_L x U(2)_R and an O(4) internal symmetry. The physical mesons of these models are sigma, pion, eta and a_0 where the latter two are not present in the O(4) model. Including two-loop contributions through sunset graphs we calculate the temperature behavior of the order parameter and the masses for explicit chiral symmetry breaking and in the chiral limit. Decay threshold effects introduced by the sunset graphs alter the temperature dependence of the condensa…
Nonlinear sigma model (NLSM) based on the coset $\text{SU}(N)\times \text{SU}(N)/\text{SU}(N)$ exhibits several intriguing features at the leading ${\cal O}(p^2)$ in the derivative expansion, such as the flavor-kinematics duality and an extended theory controlling the single and triple soft limits. In both cases the cubic biadjoint scalar theory plays a prominent role. We extend these features in two directions. First we uncover a new extended theory for $\text{SO}(N+1)/\text{SO}(N)$ NLSM at ${\cal O}(p^2)$, which is a cubic bifundamental/biadjoint scalar theory. Next we provide evidence for f…
We have developed a self-consistent theoretical approach to study the modification of the properties of heavy mesons in hot mesonic matter which takes into account chiral and heavy-quark spin-flavor symmetries. The heavy-light meson-meson unitarized scattering amplitudes in coupled channels incorporate thermal corrections by using the imaginary-time formalism, as well as the dressing of the heavy mesons with the self-energies. We report our results for the ground-state thermal spectral functions and the implications for the excited mesonic states generated dynamically in the heavy-light molecu…
In order to test the NMC finding of flavor asymmetry $\overline u-\overline d$ in the nucleon, existing Drell-Yan data for the tungsten target are often used. However, we have to be careful in comparing nuclear data with the nucleon ones. We investigate whether there exists significant nuclear modification of the $\overline u - \overline d$ distribution in a parton-recombination model. It should be noted that a finite $\overline u - \overline d$ distribution is theoretically possible in nuclei even if the sea is symmetric in the nucleon. In neutron-excess nuclei such as the tungsten, there exi…
We study the mass shifts of the charmonium ($\bar{c}c$) states ($J/ψ$, $ψ(2S)$, $ψ(1D)$, $χ_{c0}$, $χ_{c1}$ and $χ_{c2}$) as well as the bottomonium ($\bar{b}b$) states ($Υ(1S)$, $Υ(2S)$, $Υ_2(1D)$, $χ_{b0}$, $χ_{b1}$ and $χ_{b2}$) in isospin asymmetric nuclear matter. These are investigated using a generalized linear sigma model. The broken scale invariance of QCD is incorporated in the chiral $SU(2)\times SU(2)$ Lagrangian through an effective potential involving logarithmic terms of a scalar (glueball) dilaton field $χ$. The mass shifts of the quarkonium states are obtained through the medi…
The pion-mass dependence of the nucleon mass within the covariant SU(2) baryon chiral perturbation theory both without and with explicit Delta(1232) degrees of freedom up to order p^4 is investigated. By fitting to lattice QCD data in 2 and 2+1 flavors from several collaborations, for pion masses M_pi < 420 MeV, we obtain low energy constants of natural size and compatible with pion nucleon scattering data. Our results are consistent with the rather linear pion-mass dependence showed by lattice QCD. In the 2 flavor case we have also performed simultaneous fits to the nucleon mass and pion-nucl…
A new Monte Carlo model of jet quenching in nuclear collisions, CUJET1.0, is applied to predict the jet flavor dependence of the nuclear modification factor for fragments {\it $f=π,D,B,e^-$} from quenched jet flavors {\it $g,u,c,b$} in central collisions at RHIC and LHC. The nuclear modification factors for different flavors are predicted to exhibit a novel level crossing pattern over a transverse momentum range $5< p_T< 100$ GeV which can test jet-medium dynamics in quark gluon plasmas.
The low-energy sector of QCD with $N_f = 2\!+\!1$ dynamical quark flavors at non-vanishing chemical potential and temperature is studied with a non-perturbative functional renormalization group method. The analysis is performed in different truncations in order to explore fluctuation-induced modifications of the quark-meson correlations as well as quark and meson propagators on the chiral phase transition of QCD. Depending on the chosen truncation significant quantitative implications on the phase transition are found. In the chirally symmetric phase, the quark flavor composition of the pseudo…
The nuclear modification factor $R_{AA}$ of non-photonic electrons in ${Au} + {Au}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}^{}} = 200$ GeV is studied by considering the decays of heavy-flavor hadrons produced in a quark coalescence model. Although an enhanced $Λ_c/D^0$ ratio is predicted by the coalescence model, it is peaked at small transverse momenta ($\sim 2$ GeV) due to the large difference between heavy and light quark masses. As a result, the enhanced $Λ_c/D^0$ ratio, which is expected to suppress the electron $R_{AA}$ as the branching ratio of $Λ_c$ decay into electrons is smaller than that of $D^…
Properties of hypernuclei are studied in the context of a chiral Lagrangian which successfully describes ordinary nuclei. Lambda-Sigma^0 mixing arises from nondiagonal vertices in flavor space induced by the vector mesons and by the electromagnetic field. The set of Dirac equations for the coupled hyperon system is discussed. Results are presented for energy spectra and electromagnetic properties of hyperons in the nuclear environment. Simple estimates suggest that flavor mixing can lead to sizable changes in the lifetimes of Lambda hypernuclei.
Chiral symmetry restoration at nonzero temperature and quark densities are investigated in the framework of a linear sigma model with N_f=3 light quark flavors. After the derivation of the grand potential in mean-field approximation, the nonstrange and strange condensates, the in-medium masses of the scalar and pseudoscalar nonets are analyzed in hot and dense medium. The influence of the axial anomaly on the nonet masses and the isoscalar mixings on the pseudoscalar η-η' and scalar σ(600)-f_0(1370) complex are examined. The sensitivity of the chiral phase transition as well as the existence a…
We calculate open heavy-flavor (HF) production in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$=62.4 GeV utilizing a nonperturbative transport approach as previously applied in nuclear collisions at top RHIC and LHC energies. The effects of hot QCD matter are treated in a strong-coupling framework, by implementing heavy-quark diffusion, hadronization and heavy-flavor meson diffusion within a hydrodynamic background evolution. Since in our approach the heavy-flavor coupling to the medium is strongest in the pseudo-critical region, it is of interest to test its consequences at lower collision energies…
We study the so-called extended linear sigma model for the case of four quark flavors. This model is based on global chiral symmetry and dilatation invariance and includes, besides scalar and pseudoscalar mesons, vector and axial-vector mesons. Most of the parameters of the model have been determined in previous work by fitting properties of mesons with three quark flavors. Only three new parameters, all related to the current charm quark mass, appear when introducing charmed mesons. Surprisingly, within the accuracy expected from our approach, the masses of open charmed mesons turn out to be …
We present our results for a flavor-dependent EMC effect based on the nIMParton nuclear PDFs, in which the $x$-dependence is described with a nucleon swelling model. The nuclear correction from nucleon swelling is considered through a modification of the initial valence quark distributions instead of a dynamical rescaling. To probe the flavor-dependence of the model, the experimental observables are calculated applying nIMParton nuclear modifications for various experiments: parity-violating deep inelastic scattering on nuclear target, pion-induced Drell-Yan, and W-boson production in proton-n…
We use the linear sigma model coupled to quarks to explore the location of the phase transition lines in the QCD phase diagram from the point of view of chiral symmetry restoration at high temperature and baryon chemical potential. We compute analytically the effective potential in the high- and low-temperature approximations up to sixth order, including the contribution of the ring diagrams to account for the plasma screening properties. We determine the model parameters, namely, the couplings and mass-parameter, from conditions valid at the first order phase transition at vanishing temperatu…
We give the first self-consistent calculation of the effect of the scattered neutrino halo on flavor evolution in supernovae. Our example case is an O-Ne-Mg core collapse supernova neutronization neutrino burst. We find that the addition of the halo neutrinos produces qualitative and quantitative changes in the final flavor states of neutrinos. We also find that the halo neutrinos produce a novel distortion of the neutrino flavor swap. Our results provide strong motivation for tackling the full multidimensional and composition-dependent aspects of this problem in the future.
Multiple parton scatterings in high-energy p+A collisions involve multi-parton correlation inside the projectile and color coherence of multiple jets which will lead to nuclear modification of final hadron spectra relative to that in p+p collisions. Such modification of final hadron spectra in p+A collisions is studied within HIJING 2.1 model which includes initial parton shadowing, transverse momentum broadening, parton flavor and momentum correlation inside the projectile through flavor and momentum conservation and fragmentation of multiple jets. They are shown to modify the partonic flavor…
We have analyzed the chiral expansion of the baryon masses to second order in the quark masses, including strong isospin violation. The calculations are performed in Lorentz-invariant baryon chiral perturbation theory. Chiral extrapolation functions for three-flavor unquenched lattice simulations are derived. The matching to the two-flavor case and the sigma terms are also considered.
We investigate the η'N two-body interaction in the context of the η' meson mass modification in the nuclear medium. It has been argued in several articles that the masses of η' and the other pseudoscalar mesons (π, K, η) should degenerate in the chiral-symmetric phase. It is expected that the reduction of the mass difference between eta and eta' would take place in the nuclear matter if one assumes that the decrease of the quark condensate at the normal nuclear density occurs with partial restoration of chiral symmetry. At low density, the in-medium self-energy giving the mass modification by …
Heavy quarks are a unique probe to study the medium produced in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions. Within the partonic transport model Boltzmann approach to multi-parton scatterings (BAMPS) the production, energy loss and elliptic flow of heavy quarks are investigated in 3+1 dimensional simulations of the quark gluon plasma evolution. With only binary interactions between heavy quarks and particles from the medium calculated within perturbative QCD, the results on elliptic flow and the nuclear modification factor are not compatible with experimental data from RHIC and LHC. However, if th…
We extend the effective field theory approach which successfully describes ordinary nuclei and nuclear matter to incorporate strangeness in nuclear structure. Central object is a chiral effective Lagrangian involving the baryon octet, the Goldstone boson octet, the vector meson octet and a light scalar singlet. According to the rules of effective field theory, we include all interaction terms (up to a given order of truncation) that are consistent with the underlying symmetries of QCD. We develop a mean-field approximation and study nuclear matter as a simple model for multi-strange systems. A…
We revisit the mass splittings of SU(3) baryons, taking into account the second-order effects of isospin and SU(3) flavor symmetry breakings within the framework of a chiral soliton model. The masses of the baryon decuplet turn out to be improved, compared to those with the first-order corrections. The mass of the N^* as a member of the baryon antidecuplet is obtained as M_{n^*}=1687 MeV, which is in agreement with the recent experimental data. The pion-nucleon sigma term becomes Σ_{πN}=(50.5\pm 5.4) MeV.
The pi pi scattering is studied in two-flavor chiral models with a finite pion mass to investigate the nature of the sigma meson which is observed as the lowest scalar-isoscalar resonance. We compare several models with different origins of the sigma meson, such as the chiral partner of the pion and the dynamically generated pi pi molecule. We find that the dynamically generated sigma meson exhibits a novel pattern of the threshold enhancement reflecting the s-wave nature of the resonance, which is qualitatively different from the softening of the chiral partner introduced as a bare field. Thi…
The notion that hadron masses scale according to the scaling of the quark condensate in hadronic matter, partly supported by a number of observations in finite nuclei, can be interpreted in terms of Harada-Yamawaki's ``vector manifestation" (VM) of chiral symmetry. In this scenario, near chiral restoration, the vector meson masses drop to zero {\it in the chiral limit} with vanishing widths. This scenario appears to differ from the standard linear sigma model scenario. We exploit a link between the VM and color-flavor locking inferred by us from lattice data on quark number susceptibility (QNS…
SU(2)-flavor-symmetry breaking in antiquark distributions of the nucleon was suggested by the New Muon Collaboration (NMC) in deep inelastic muon scattering. As an independent test, Drell-Yan data for the tungsten target have been used for examining the asymmetry. We investigate whether there exists significant modification of the $\bar u -\bar d$ distribution in nuclei in a parton recombination model. It should be noted that a finite $\bar u-\bar d$ distribution is theoretically possible in nuclei even if the sea is $SU(2)_f$ symmetric in the nucleon. In neutron-excess nuclei such as the tung…
Back-to-back light and heavy flavor dijet measurements are promising experimental channels to accurately study the physics of jet production and propagation in a dense QCD medium. They can provide new insights into the path length, color charge, and mass dependence of quark and gluon energy loss in the quark-gluon plasma produced in reactions of ultra-relativistic nuclei. To this end, we perform a comprehensive study of both light and heavy flavor dijet production in heavy ion collisions. We propose the modification of dijet invariant mass distributions in such reactions as a novel observable …
Relativistic heavy-ion experiments have observed similar quenching effects for (prompt) $D$ mesons compared to charged hadrons for transverse momenta larger than 6-8~GeV, which remains a mystery since heavy quarks typically lose less energies in quark-gluon plasma than light quarks and gluons. Recent measurements of the nuclear modification factors of $B$ mesons and $B$-decayed $D$ mesons by the CMS Collaboration provide a unique opportunity to study the flavor hierarchy of jet quenching. Using a linear Boltzmann transport model combined with hydrodynamics simulation, we study the energy loss …
Baryon-baryon potentials are obtained from 3-flavor QCD simulations with the lattice volume L ~ 4 fm, the lattice spacing a ~ 0.12 fm, and the pseudo-scalar-meson mass M_ps =469 - 1171 MeV. The NN scattering phase shift and the mass of H-dibaryon in the flavor SU(3) limit are extracted from the resultant potentials by solving the Schrodinger equation. The NN phase shift in the SU(3) limit is shown to have qualitatively similar behavior as the experimental data. A bound H-dibaryon in the SU(3) limit is found to exist in the flavor-singlet J^P=0^+ channel with the binding energy of about 26 MeV …
A general overview on the role of heavy quarks as probes of the medium formed in high energy nuclear collisions is presented. Experimental data compared to model calculations at low and moderate pT are exploited to extract information on the transport coefficients of the medium, on possible modifications of heavy flavor hadronization in a hot environment and to provide quantitative answers to the issue of kinetic (and chemical, at conceivable future experimental facilities) thermalization of charm. Finally, the role of heavy flavor at high pT as a tool to study the mass and color-charge depend…
We study patterns of chiral symmetry breaking at zero temperature and its subsequent restoration at nonzero temperature within the $SU(3)_{r} \times SU(3)_{\ell}$ linear sigma model. Gap equations for the masses of the scalar and pseudoscalar mesons and the non-strange and strange quark condensates are systematically derived in the Hartree approximation via the Cornwall-Jackiw-Tomboulis formalism. In the chiral limit, the chiral symmetry restoring transition is found to be first order, as predicted by universality arguments. Taking the experimental values for the meson masses, however, the tra…
We study three-flavor octet baryons by using the so-called extended Linear Sigma Model (eLSM). Within a quark-diquark picture, the requirement of a mirror assignment naturally leads to the consideration of four spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ baryon multiplets. A reduction of the Lagrangian to the two-flavor case leaves four doublets of nucleonic states which mix to form the experimentally observed states $N(939)$, $N(1440)$, $N(1535)$ and $N(1650)$. We determine the parameters of the nucleonic part of the Lagrangian from a fit to masses and decay properties of the aforementioned states. By tracing their m…

We investigate the screening masses of neutral pions and sigma mesons in hot and magnetized quark matter in the framework of a two-flavor lattice-improved Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model with a magnetic field dependent coupling constant, which is determined by utilizing the results from lattice QCD simulations. Since such model can well reproduce inverse magnetic catalysis (IMC), by comparing with the standard NJL model, we systemically analyze the impacts of IMC on the temperature and magnetic field dependences of the longitudinal and transverse screening masses of the chiral partners, i.e. π^…
We propose a holographic model of baryon interactions based on non-supersymmetric D7-anti-D7 flavor branes embedded in the Klebanov-Strassler background. The baryons are D3-branes wrapping the 3-sphere of the conifold with M strings connecting the D3 and the flavor branes. Depending on the location of the latter there are two possibilities: the D3 either remains separate from the flavor branes or dissolves in them and becomes a flavor instanton. The leading order interaction between the baryons is a competition between the attraction and the repulsion due to the sigma and omega mesons. The lig…
Relativistic heavy ion collisions, which are performed at large experimental programs such as Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider's (RHIC) STAR experiment and the Large Hadron Collider's (LHC) experiments, can create an extremely hot and dense state of the matter known as the quark gluon plasma (QGP). A huge amount of sub-nucleonic particles are created in the collision processes and their interaction and subsequent evolution after the collision takes place is at the core of the understanding of the matter that builds up the Universe. It has recently been shown that event-by-event fluctuations in …
It is argued that heavy-quarks traversing a Quark Gluon Plasma, undergo a multi-stage modification process, similar to the case of light flavors. Such an approach is applied to heavy-quark energy loss, which includes a rare-scattering, multiple emission formalism at momenta large compared to the mass (sensitive only to the transverse diffusion coefficient $\hat{q}$), and a single scattering induced emission formalism (Gunion-Bertsch) at momenta comparable to the mass of the quark [sensitive to $\hat{q}$, and the longitudinal drag ($\hat{e}$) and diffusion ($\hat{e}_2$) coefficients]. The appli…
We report a new analysis of lattice simulation results for octet baryon masses in 2+1-flavor QCD, with an emphasis on a precise determination of the strangeness nucleon sigma term. A controlled chiral extrapolation of a recent PACS-CS Collaboration data set yields baryon masses which exhibit remarkable agreement both with experimental values at the physical point and with the results of independent lattice QCD simulations at unphysical meson masses. Using the Feynman-Hellmann relation, we evaluate sigma commutators for all octet baryons. The small statistical uncertainty, and considerably smal…
We employ a simple effective model to study the chiral dynamics of two flavors of quarks at finite temperature and density. In particular, we determine the phase diagram in the plane of temperature and baryon chemical potential as a function of the pion mass. An interesting phase structure occurs which results in zero, one or two critical points depending on the value of the vacuum pion mass.
We discuss the role of the axial $U(1)_A$ symmetry in the chiral phase transition using the $U(N_f)_R\times U(N_f)_L$ linear sigma model with two massless quark flavors. We expect that above a certain temperature the axial $U(1)_A$ symmetry will be effectively restored as well as $SU(N_f)_R\times SU(N_f)_L$. Then we can construct a string-like static solution the $η$ string and a kink-like classical solution the domain wall during the chiral phase transition. We give out the possible signals for detecting the domain wall in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions.
We study the in-medium modification of the isovector pi N amplitude using a non-linear representation of the sigma model but keeping the scalar degree of freedom. We check that our result does not depend on the representation. We discuss the connection with other approaches based on chiral perturbation theory.
We employ the linear sigma model to study the chiral dynamics of two flavors of quarks at finite temperature and density. Our calculations include thermal fluctuations of both the bosonic and fermionic fields. In particular, we determine the phase diagram in the plane of temperature and baryon chemical potential as a function of the pion mass. An interesting phase structure occurs that results in zero, one, or two critical points depending on the value of the vacuum pion mass.
The hyperon-nucleon interaction with the strangeness $S=-1$ region is complicated and difficult to investigate because its flavor sector involves all the irreducible representation except the flavor singlet and has the worst signal-to-noise ratio among the strangeness regions. In order to overcome such difficulties the content of this report is twofold: (i) We present an implementation of extended effective baryon block algorithm. This is a straightforward extension of the original which was reported in LATTICE 2013. (ii) We perform single channel analysis for the $ΛN$ system at nearly physica…
We study the nuclear modification of angular and momentum correlations between heavy quark pairs in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. The evolution of heavy quarks inside the thermalized medium is described via a modified Langevin approach that incorporates both elastic and inelastic interactions with the medium constituents. The spacetime evolution of the fireball is obtained from a (2+1)-dimensional viscous hydrodynamics simulation. The hadronization of heavy quarks is performed utilizing a hybrid model of fragmentation and coalescence. Our results show that the nuclear modification of…
We compute the magnetic field-induced modifications to the boson self-coupling and the boson-fermion coupling, in the static limit, using an effective model of QCD, the linear sigma model with quarks. The former is computed for arbitrary field strengths as well as using the strong field approximation. The latter is obtained in the strong field limit. The arbitrary field result for the boson self-coupling depends on the ultraviolet renormalization scale and this dependence cannot be removed by a simple vacuum subtraction. Using the strong field result as a guide, we find the appropriate choice …
After a brief review of discovery of the H-dibaryon in lattice QCD, effect of the flavor SU(3) symmetry breaking on the H-dibaryon is studied by basing on the baryon-baryon (BB) interactions extracted from QCD on the lattice. The Schrodinger equation for Lambda Lambda - N Xi -Sigma Sigma coupled-channel is solved with the physical baryon masses and the potentials obtained from QCD at the flavor SU(3) limit. A resonant H-dibaryon is found between Lambda Lambda and N Xi thresholds in this treatment.
It is widely acknowledged that heavy flavor probes are sensitive to the properties of the quark-gluon plasma and are often considered an important tool for the plasma tomography studies. Forward rapidity observables can provide further insight on the dynamics of the medium due to the interplay between the medium size and the differences in the production spectra of heavy quark probes. In this proceedings we present the nuclear modification factor $R_\text{AA}$'s for B and D mesons, as well as heavy flavor leptons, in the rapidity range $-4.0 < y < 4.0$ obtained from relativistic Langevin equat…
The scalar strangeness content of the nucleon, characterized by the so-called strangeness-nucleon sigma term, is of fundamental importance in understanding its sea-quark flavor structure. We report a determination of the octet baryon sigma terms via the Feynman-Hellmann theorem by analyzing the latest high-statistics $n_f=2+1$ lattice QCD simulations with covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory up to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order. In particular, we predict $σ_{πN}=55(1)(4)$ MeV and $σ_{sN}=27(27)(4)$ MeV, while the first error is statistical and the second systematic due to differe…
Heavy quarks created in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions are mostly produced in hard QCD processes during the early stages of the reaction. They interact with the hot and cold nuclear matter throughout the evolution of the medium via semi-hard and soft processes such as energy loss via gluon radiations and collisions. Nuclear modification of heavy flavors in p-A systems provides insight into cold nuclear matter effects such as (anti)shadowing and $k_{T}$-broadening, and serves as a baseline for A-A studies. In addition to that the fully reconstructed heavy-flavor jets provide additional…
We discuss medium modifications of the unitarized pion-pion interaction in the nuclear medium. We incorporate both the effects of chiral symmetry restoration and the influence of collective nuclear pionic modes originating from the p-wave coupling of the pion to delta-hole configurations. We show in particular that the dropping of the sigma meson mass significantly enhances the low energy structure created by the in-medium collective pionic modes.
Understanding the detailed production and hadronization mechanisms for heavy quarkonia and their modification in a nuclear environment presents one of the major challenges in QCD. Calculations including nuclear-modified parton distribution functions (nPDFs) and fitting of break-up cross sections (sigma_breakup) as parameters have been successful at describing many features of J/psi modification in proton(deuteron)-nucleus collisions. In this paper, we extend these calculations to explore different geometric dependencies of the modification and confront them with new experimental results from t…
