We investigated several global behaviors of the weak KAM solutions $u_c(x,t)$ parametrized by $c\in H^1(\mathbb T,\mathbb R)$. For the suspended Hamiltonian $H(x,p,t)$ of the exact symplectic twist map, we could find a family of weak KAM solutions $u_c(x,t)$ parametrized by $c(σ)\in H^1(\mathbb T,\mathbb R)$ with $c(σ)$ continuous and monotonic and \[ \partial_tu_c+H(x,\partial_x u_c+c,t)=α(c),\quad \text{a.e.\ } (x,t)\in\mathbb T^2, \] such that sequence of weak KAM solutions $\{u_c\}_{c\in H^1(\mathbb T,\mathbb R)}$ is $1/2-$Hölder continuity of parameter $σ\in \mathbb{R}$. Moreover, for each generalized characteristic (no matter regular or singular) solving \[ \left\{ \begin{aligned} &\dot{x}(s)\in \text{co} \Big[\partial_pH\Big(x(s),c+D^+u_c\big(x(s),s+t\big),s+t\Big)\Big], & \\ &x(0)=x_0,\quad (x_0,t)\in\mathbb T^2,& \end{aligned} \right. \] we evaluate it by a uniquely identified rotational number $ω(c)\in H_1(\mathbb T,\mathbb R)$. This property leads to a certain topological obstruction in the phase space and causes local transitive phenomenon of trajectories. Besides, we discussed this applies to high-dimensional cases.
For the conformally symplectic system \[ \left\{ \begin{aligned} \dot{q}&=H_p(q,p),\quad(q,p)\in T^*\mathbb{T}^n\\ \dot p&=-H_q(q,p)-λp, \quad λ>0 \end{aligned} \right. \] with a positive definite Hamiltonian, we discuss the variational significance of invariant Lagrangian graphs and explain how the KAM torus impacts the $W^{1,\infty}-$convergence speed of the Lax-Oleinik semigroup.
We investigate the existence of whiskered tori in some dissipative systems, called \sl conformally symplectic \rm systems, having the property that they transform the symplectic form into a multiple of itself. We consider a family $f_μ$ of conformally symplectic maps which depend on a drift parameter $μ$. We fix a Diophantine frequency of the torus and we assume to have a drift $μ_0$ and an embedding of the torus $K_0$, which satisfy approximately the invariance equation $f_{μ_0} \circ K_0 - K_0 \circ T_ω$ (where $T_ω$ denotes the shift by $ω$). We also assume to have a splitting of the tangen…
A method via the KAM technique is introduced to study the existence of invariant tori and quasiperiodic solutions for impulsive Duffing-type equations with time period 1. Basing on several planar symplectic homeomorphisms and some estimates of impulsive perturbations under each symplectic homeomorphisms, we prove via the Moser's twist theorem the boundedness (Lagrange stability) and the existence of an invariant circle for the equation with area-preserving impulsive terms. And this invariant circle having any rotation number $ω>ω_0$ with some $ω_0>0$, so we obtain also that the solutions start…
We show the coexistence of chaotic behaviors (positive metric entropy) and elliptic behaviors (intregrable KAM island) among analytic, symplectic diffeomorphism of any closed surface. In particilar this solves a problem by F. Przytycki (1982).
We study the dynamics of a symplectic twist map without conjugate points. We show that in a neighborhood of a totally periodic Lagrangian manifold, there exists a large family of invariant Lagrangian tori on which the twist map is conjugated to a translation of non-resonant vector.
We prove that symplectic twist maps defined on the cotangent bundle of the d-dimensional torus that have no conjugate points are $C^0$ integrable, i.e. the cotangent bundle is continuously foliated by a family of invariant Lagrangian graphs.
In the present paper, we will discuss the following non-degenerate Hamiltonian system \begin{equation*} H(θ,t,I)=\frac{H_0(I)}{\varepsilon^{a}}+\frac{P(θ,t,I)}{\varepsilon^{b}}, \end{equation*} where $(θ,t,I)\in\mathbf{T}^{d+1}\times[1,2]^d$ ($\mathbf{T}:=\mathbf{R}/{2π\mathbf{Z}}$), $a,b$ are given positive constants with $a>b$, $H_0: [1,2]^d\rightarrow \mathbf R$ is real analytic and $P: \mathbf T^{d+1}\times [1,2]^d\rightarrow \mathbf R$ is $C^{\ell}$ with $\ell=\frac{2(d+1)(5a-b+2ad)}{a-b}+μ$, $0<μ\ll1$. We prove that if $\varepsilon$ is sufficiently small, there is an invariant torus with…
We construct a $C^2$ symplectic twist map f of the annulus that has an essential invariant curve C such that: - C is not differentiable; - the dynamics of f restricted to C is conjugated to the one of a Denjoy counter-example; - C is at the boundary of an instability zone for f.
Many problems in Physics are described by dynamical systems that are conformally symplectic (e.g., mechanical systems with a friction proportional to the velocity, variational problems with a small discount or thermostated systems). Conformally symplectic systems are characterized by the property that they transform a symplectic form into a multiple of itself. The limit of small dissipation, which is the object of the present study, is particularly interesting. We provide all details for maps, but we present also the modifications needed to obtain a direct proof for the case of differential eq…
We construct a $C^1$ symplectic twist map f of the annulus that has an essential invariant curve C such that: --C is not differentiable; -- the dynamic of f restricted to C is conjugated to the one of a Denjoy counter-example.
The KAM (Kolmogorov-Arnold-Moser) theorem guarantees the stability of quasi-periodic invariant tori by perturbation in some Hamiltonian systems. Michel Herman proved a similar result for quasi-periodic motions, with $k$-dimensional involutive manifolds in Hamiltonian systems with $n$ degrees of freedom $n \leq k < 2n $. In this paper, we extend this result to the case of a quasi-periodic motion on symplectic tori $k = 2n$.
From the beginning of KAM theory, it was realized that its applicability to realistic problems depended on developing quantitative estimates on the sizes of the perturbations allowed. In this paper we present results on the existence of quasi-periodic solutions for conformally symplectic systems in non-perturbative regimes. We recall that, for conformally symplectic systems, finding the solution requires also to find a "drift parameter". We present a proof on the existence of solutions for values of the parameters which agree with more than three figures with the numerically conjectured optima…
Dissipative systems play a very important role in several physical models, most notably in Celestial Mechanics, where the dissipation drives the motion of natural and artificial satellites, leading them to migration of orbits, resonant states, etc. Hence the need to develop theories that ensure the existence of structures such as invariant tori or periodic orbits and device efficient computational methods. In this work we concentrate on the existence of invariant tori for the specific case of dissipative systems known as "conformally symplectic" systems, which have the property that they trans…
We study the existence of whiskered tori in a family $f_μ$ of conformally symplectic maps depending on parameters $μ$. Whiskered tori are tori on which the motion is a rotation, but they have as many expanding/contracting directions as allowed by the preservation of the geometric structure. Our main result is formulated in an "a-posteriori" format. We fix $ω$ satisfying Diophantine conditions. We assume that we are given 1) a value of the parameter $μ_0$, 2) an embedding of the torus $K_0$ into the phase space, approximately invariant under $f_{μ_0}$ in the sense that $f_{μ_0} \circ K_0 - K_0 …
The two main results of this paper concern the regularity of the invariant foliation of a C0-integrable symplectic twist diffeomorphisms of the 2-dimensional annulus, namely that $\bullet$ the generating function of such a foliation is C1 ; $\bullet$ the foliation is H{ö}lder with exponent 1/2. We also characterize foliations by graphs that are straightenable via a symplectic homeomorphism and prove that every symplectic homeomorphism that leaves invariant all the leaves of a straightenable foliation has Arnol'd-Liouville coordinates, in which the Dynamics restricted to the leaves is conjugate…
This paper concentrates on optical Hamiltonian systems of $T*\T^n$, i.e. those for which $\Hpp$ is a positive definite matrix, and their relationship with symplectic twist maps. We present theorems of decomposition by symplectic twist maps and existence of periodic orbits for these systems. The novelty of these results resides in the fact that no explicit asymptotic condition is imposed on the system. We also present a theorem of suspension by Hamiltonian systems for the class of symplectic twist map that emerges in our study. Finally, we extend our results to manifolds of negative curvature.
We consider a sequences of symplectic twist maps corresponding to Frenkel Kontorova variational functional. For such a sequence without conjugate points we construct an invariant Lagrangian subbundle. Using the ideas by E.Hopf from Riemannian geometry we show that absence of conjugate points is a rare property for this class of maps.
In this paper we apply KAM theory and the Aubry-Mather theory for twist maps to the study of bound geodesic dynamics of a perturbed blackhole background. The general theories apply mainly to two observable phenomena: the photon shell (unstable bound spherical orbits) and the quasi-periodic oscillations. We discover there is a gap structure in the photon shell that can be used to reveal information of the perturbation.
Dissipative mechanical systems on the torus with a friction that is proportional to the velocity are modeled by conformally symplectic maps on the annulus, which are maps that transport the symplectic form into a multiple of itself (with a conformal factor smaller than 1). It is important to understand the structure and the dynamics on the attractors. With the aid of parameters, and under suitable non-degeneracy conditions, one can obtain that, by adjusting parameters, there is an attractor that is an invariant torus whose internal dynamics is conjugate to a rotation [CCdlL13]. By analogy with…
For a symplectic twist map, we prove that there is a choice of weak K.A.M. solutions that depend in a continuous way on the cohomology class. We thus obtain a continuous function $u(θ, c)$ in two variables: the angle $θ$ and the cohomology class $c$. As a result, we prove that the Aubry-Mather sets are contained in pseudographs that are vertically ordered by their rotation numbers. Then we characterize the $C^0$ integrable twist maps in terms of regularity of $u$ that allows to see $u$ as a generating function. We also obtain some results for the Lipschitz integrable twist maps. With an exampl…
We construct a $C^1$ symplectic twist map $g$ of the annulus that has an essential invariant curve $Γ$ such that $Γ$ is not differentiable and $g$ restricted to $Γ$ is minimal.
Motivated by Mather theory of minimizing measures for symplectic twist dynamics, we study conformally symplectic flows on a cotangent bundle. These dynamics are the most general dynamics for which it makes sense to look at (asymptotic) dynamical Maslov index. Our main result is the existence of invariant measures with vanishing index without any convexity hypothesis, in the general framework of conformally symplectic flows. A degenerate twist-condition hypothesis implies the existence of ergodic invariant measures with zero dynamical Maslov index and thus the existence of points with zero dyna…
In this article, following a first work of the author, we study critical subsolutions in discrete weak KAM theory. In particular, we establish that if the cost function $c:M \times M\to \R{}$ defined on a smooth connected manifold is locally semi-concave and verifies twist conditions, then there exists a $C^{1,1}$ critical subsolution strict on a maximal set (namely, outside of the Aubry set). We also explain how this applies to costs coming from Tonelli Lagrangians. Finally, following ideas introduced in the work of Fathi-Maderna and Mather, we study invariant cost functions and apply this st…
Since Moser's seminal work it is well known that the invariant curves of smooth nearly integrable twist maps of the cylinder with Diophantine rotation number are preserved under perturbation. In this paper we show that, in the analytic class, the result extends to Bryuno rotation numbers. First, we will show that the series expansion for the invariant curves in powers of the perturbation parameter can be formally defined, then we shall prove that the series converges absolutely in a neighbourhood of the origin. This will be achieved using multiscale analysis and renormalisation group technique…
