We study the decomposition of free random variables in terms of their orthogonal replicas from a new perspective. First, we show that the mixed moments of orthogonal replicas with respect to the normalized linear functional $Φ$ are naturally described in terms of Motzkin paths identified with reduced Motzkin words. Using this fact, we demonstrate that the mixed moments of free random variables with respect to the free product of normalized linear functionals are sums of the mixed moments of order $n$ of the orthogonal replicas of these variables with respect to $Φ$ with summation extending over the set of reduced Motzkin words of lenght $n$. One of the applications of this formula is a decomposition formula for mixed moments of free random variables in terms of their boolean cumulants which corresponds to the decomposition of the lattice ${\rm NC}(n)$ into sublattices $\mathcal{M}(w)$ of partitions which are monotonically adapted to colors in the word $w$. The linear functionals defined by the mixed moments of orthogonal replicas and indexed by reduced Motzkin words play the role of a generating set of the space of product functionals in which the boolean product corresponds to constant Motzkin paths and the free product corresponds to all Motzkin paths.
We prove an atomic type decomposition for the noncommutative martingale Hardy space $\h_p$ for all $0<p<2$ by an explicit constructive method using algebraic atoms as building blocks. Using this elementary construction, we obtain a weak form of the atomic decomposition of $\h_p$ for all $0< p < 1,$ and provide a constructive proof of the atomic decomposition for $p=1$. We also study $(p,\8)_c$-atoms, and show that every $(p,2)_c$-atom can be decomposed into a sum of $(p,\8)_c$-atoms; consequently, for every $0<p\le 1$, the $(p,q)_c$-atoms lead to the same atomic space for all $2\le q\le\8$. As…
We prove the noncommutative Davis decomposition for the column Hardy space $\H_p^c$ for all $0<p\leq 1$. A new feature of our Davis decomposition is a simultaneous control of $\H_1^c$ and $\H_q^c$ norms for any noncommutative martingale in $\H_1^c \cap \H_q^c$ when $q\geq 2$. As applications, we show that the Burkholder/Rosenthal inequality holds for bounded martingales in a noncommutative symmetric space associated with a function space $E$ that is either an interpolation of the couple $(L_p, L_2)$ for some $1<p<2$ or is an interpolation of the couple $(L_2, L_q)$ for some $2<q<\infty$. We al…
We prove an analogue of the classical Davis' decomposition for martingales in noncommutative L_p-spaces, involving the square functions. We also determine the dual space of the noncommutative conditioned Hardy space \h_1. We further extend this latter result to the case 1<p<2.
We prove that atomic decomposition for the Hardy spaces h_1 and H_1 is valid for noncommutative martingales. We also establish that the conditioned Hardy spaces of noncommutative martingales h_p and bmo form interpolation scales with respect to both complex and real interpolations.
In this paper, we study the John-Nirenberg inequality for BMO and the atomic decomposition for H1 of noncommutative martingales. We first establish a crude version of the column (resp. row) John-Nirenberg inequality for all 0 < p < \infty. By an extreme point property of Lp -space for 0 < p \leq 1, we then obtain a fine version of this in equality. The latter corresponds exactly to the classical John-Nirenberg inequality and enables us to obtain an exponential integrability inequality like in the classical case. These results extend and improve Junge and Musat's John-Nirenberg inequality. By d…
We herein develop a theory of contiguity in the quantum domain based upon a novel quantum analogue of the Lebesgue decomposition. The theory thus formulated is pertinent to the weak quantum local asymptotic normality introduced in the previous paper [Yamagata, Fujiwara, and Gill, \textit{Ann. Statist.}, \textbf{41} (2013) 2197-2217.], yielding substantial enlargement of the scope of quantum statistics.
We discuss a (i) quantized version of the Jordan decomposition theorem for a complex Borel measure on a compact Hausdorff space, namely, the more general problem of decomposing a general noncommutative kernel (a quantization of the standard notion of kernel function) as a linear combination of completely positive noncommutative kernels (a quantization of the standard notion of positive definite kernel). Other special cases of (i) include: the problem of decomposing a general operator-valued kernel function as a linear combination of positive kernels (not always possible), of decomposing a gene…
We show that for a quantum $L^p$-martingale $(X(t))$, $p>2$, there exists a Doob-Meyer decomposition of the submartingale $(|X(t)|^2)$. A noncommutative counterpart of a classical process continuous with probability one is introduced, and a quantum stochastic integral of such a process with respect to an $L^p$-martingale, $p>2$, is constructed. Using this construction, the uniqueness of the Doob-Meyer decomposition for a quantum martingale `continuous with probability one' is proved, and explicit forms of this decomposition and the quadratic variation process for such a martingale are obtained…
In this paper we investigate asymmetric forms of Doob maximal inequality. The asymmetry is imposed by noncommutativity. Let $(\M,τ)$ be a noncommutative probability space equipped with a weak-$*$ dense filtration of von Neumann subalgebras $(\M_n)_{n \ge 1}$. Let $\E_n$ denote the corresponding family of conditional expectations. As an illustration for an asymmetric result, we prove that for $1 < p < 2$ and $x \in L_p(\M,τ)$ one can find $a, b \in L_p(\M,τ)$ and contractions $u_n, v_n \in \M$ such that $$\E_n(x) = a u_n + v_n b \quad \mbox{and} \quad \max \big\{ \|a\|_p, \|b\|_p \big\} \le c_p…
We introduce and study a new type of convolution of probability measures called the orthogonal convolution, which is related to the monotone convolution. Using this convolution, we derive alternating decompositions of the free additive convolution of compactly supported probability measures in free probability. These decompositions are directly related to alternating decompositions of the associated subordination functions. In particular, they allow us to compute free additive convolutions of compactly supported measures without using free cumulants or R-transforms. In simple cases, representa…

In this work, we solve the problem explicitly stated at the end of a paper of Junge, Mei and Parcet [JEMS2018, Problem C.5] for a large class of groups including all amenable groups and free groups. More precisely, we prove that the Hodge-Dirac operator of the canonical "hidden" noncommutative geometry associated with a Markov semigroup $(T_t)_{t \geq 0}$ of Fourier multipliers is bisectorial and admits a bounded $\mathrm{H}^\infty$ functional calculus on a bisector which implies a positive answer to the quoted problem. Our result can be seen as a strengthening of the dimension free estimates …
Let $n > 1$. Let $\{U_{ij}\}_{1 \leq i < j \leq n}$ be $\binom{n}{2}$ commuting unitaries on some Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$, and suppose $U_{ji} := U_{ij}^*$, $1 \leq i < j \leq n$. An $n$-tuple of isometries $V = (V_1, \ldots ,V_n)$ on $\mathcal{H}$ is called $\mathcal{U}_n$-twisted isometry with respect to $\{U_{ij}\}_{i<j}$ (or simply $\mathcal{U}_n$-twisted isometry if $\{U_{ij}\}_{i<j}$ is clear from the context) if $V_i$'s are in the commutator $\{U_{st}: s \neq t\}'$, and $V_i^*V_j=U_{ij}^*V_jV_i^*$, $i \neq j$ We prove that each $\mathcal{U}_n$-twisted isometry admits a von Neumann-W…
