We propose an electroweakly interacting spin-1 dark matter (DM) model. The electroweak gauge symmetry, SU(2)$_L\times$U(1)$_Y$, is extended into SU(2)$_0\times$SU(2)$_1 \times $SU(2)$_2 \times$U(1)$_Y$. A discrete symmetry exchanging SU(2)$_0$ and SU(2)$_2$ is imposed. This discrete symmetry stabilizes the DM candidate. The spin-1 DM particle ($V^0)$ and its SU(2)$_L$ partners ($V^\pm$) interact with the Standard Model (SM) electroweak gauge bosons without any suppression factors. Consequently, pairs of DM particles efficiently annihilate into the SM particles in the early universe, and the measured value of the DM energy density is easily realized by the thermal freeze-out mechanism. The model also predicts a heavy vector triplet ($W'^\pm$ and $Z'$) in the visible sector. They contribute to the DM annihilation processes. The mass ratio of $Z'$ and $V^0$ determines values of various couplings, and constraints on $W'$ and $Z'$ restrict regions of the parameter space that are viable for DM physics. We investigate the constraints from perturbative unitarity of scalar and gauge couplings, the Higgs signal strength, $W'$ search at the LHC, and DM direct detection experiments. It is found that the relic abundance of $V^0$ explains the right amount of the DM energy density for 3 TeV $\lesssim m_{V^0} \lesssim$ 19 TeV.
We study the renormalization effects on electric dipole moments in the models with new electroweakly interacting massive fermions. The electric dipole moments are generated by the effective operators which arise from integrating out heavy particles at some scale in the models. We give the renormalization group equation for the Wilson coefficients of the effective operators from the scale where the operators are generated to the electroweak scale. Our numerical studies focus on the electric dipole moments in the mini-split supersymmetric scenario and the electroweakly interacting massive partic…
There are many models beyond the standard model which include electroweakly interacting massive particles (EWIMPs), often in the context of the dark matter. In this paper, we study the indirect search of EWIMPs using a precise measurement of the Drell-Yan cross sections at future $100\,{\rm TeV}$ hadron colliders. It is revealed that this search strategy is suitable in particular for Higgsino and that the Higgsino mass up to about $1.3\,{\rm TeV}$ will be covered at $95\,\%$ C.L. irrespective of the chargino and neutralino mass difference. We also show that the study of the Drell-Yan process p…
There are many extensions of the standard model that predict the existence of electroweakly interacting massive particles (EWIMPs), in particular in the context of the dark matter. In this paper, we provide a way for indirectly studying EWIMPs through the precise study of the pair production processes of charged leptons or that of a charged lepton and a neutrino at future 100 TeV collider experiments. It is revealed that this search method is suitable in particular for Higgsino, providing us the $5σ$ discovery reach of Higgsino in supersymmetric model with mass up to 850 GeV. We also discuss h…
The extended models of the standard model with a single Majorana fermion could be realized as the low-energy effective theory of the well-motivated ultraviolet models. We study the electric dipole moments generated by the effective operators which are composed of the Majorana fermion and the standard model Higgs bosons, especially focusing on the renormalization effects of the effective operators. We give the one-loop anomalous dimension of the effective operators from the scale where the operators are generated to the electroweak scale. In this proceedings, we focused on the electric dipole m…
Many extensions of the standard model (SM) involve new massive particles charged under the electroweak gauge symmetry. The electroweakly interacting new particles affect various SM processes through radiative corrections. We discuss the possibility of detecting such new particles based on the precise measurement of the SM processes at high energy hadron colliders. It then turns out that Drell-Yan processes receive radiative corrections from the electroweakly interacting particles at the level of ${\cal O}$(0.1-10) %. It is hence possible to indirectly search for the Higgsino up to the mass of …
We describe the generation of the electric current flowing along the external magnetic field in the system of massive charged fermions, possessing anomalous magnetic moments and electroweakly interacting with background matter. This current is shown to result in the instability of the magnetic field leading to its growth. Some astrophysical applications are discussed.
We study chiral fermions electroweakly interacting with a background matter having the nonuniform density and the velocity arbitrarily depending on coordinates. The dynamics of this system is described approximately by finding the Berry phase. The effective action and the kinetic equations for right and left particles are derived. In the case of a rotating matter, we obtain the correction to the anomalous electric current and to the Adler anomaly. Then we study some astrophysical applications. Assuming that the chiral imbalance in a rotating neutron star vanishes, we obtain the rate of the mag…
We consider a class of fermionic dark matter candidates that are charged under both the SU(2)$_L$ and U(1)$_Y$ gauge interactions. In this case a certain amount of dark matter-Higgs couplings, which can split the dark matter into a pair of Majorana fermions, should be present to evade the constraints from the dark matter direct detection experiments. These effects may be probed by means of the dark matter-nucleus scattering via the Higgs-boson exchange process, as well as the electric dipole moments induced by the dark matter and its SU(2)$_L$ partner fields. In this article, we evaluate them …
We study gamma-ray line signatures from electroweakly interacting non-abelian spin-1 dark matter (DM). In this model, $Z_2$-odd spin-1 particles including a DM candidate have the SU(2)$_L$ triplet-like features, and the Sommerfeld enhancement is relevant in the annihilation processes. We derive the annihilation cross sections contributing to the photon emission and compare with the SU(2)$_L$ triplet fermions, such as Wino DM in the supersymmetric Standard Model. The Sommerfeld enhancement factor is approximately the same in both systems, while our spin-1 DM predicts the larger annihilation cro…
Electroweakly Interacting Massive Particles (EWIMPs), in other words, new massive particles that are charged under the electroweak interaction of the Standard Model (SM), are often predicted in various new physics models. EWIMPs are probed at hadron collider experiments not only by observing their direct productions but also by measuring their quantum effects on Drell-Yan processes for SM lepton pair productions. Such effects are known to be enhanced especially when the di-lepton invariant mass of the final state is close to the EWIMP threshold, namely twice the EWIMP mass. In such a mass regi…
We study the viability of electroweak baryogenesis in a two Higgs doublet model scenario augmented by vector-like, electroweakly interacting fermions. Considering a limited, but illustrative region of the model parameter space, we obtain the observed cosmic baryon asymmetry while satisfying present constraints from the non-observation of the permanent electric dipole moment (EDM) of the electron and the combined ATLAS and CMS result for the Higgs boson diphoton decay rate. The observation of a non-zero electron EDM in a next generation experiment and/or the observation of an excess (over the S…
We study the evolution of neutrinos in a background matter moving with a linear acceleration. The Dirac equation for a massive neutrino electroweakly interacting with background fermions is obtained in a comoving frame where matter is at rest. We solve this Dirac equation for ultrarelativistic neutrinos. The neutrino quantum states in matter moving with a linear acceleration are obtained. We demonstrate that the neutrino electroweak interaction with an accelerated matter leads to the vacuum instability which results in the neutrino-antineutrino pairs creation. We rederive the temperature of th…
We explore a dark matter model extending the standard model particle content by one fermionic $SU(2)_L$ triplet and two fermionic $SU(2)_L$ quadruplets, leading to a minimal realistic UV-complete model of electroweakly interacting dark matter which interacts with the Higgs doublet at tree level via two kinds of Yukawa couplings. After electroweak symmetry-breaking, the physical spectrum of the dark sector consists of three Majorana fermions, three singly charged fermions, and one doubly charged fermion, with the lightest neutral fermion $χ_1^0$ serving as a dark matter candidate. A typical spe…
We study oscillations of Dirac neutrinos in background matter and a plane electromagnetic wave. First, we find the new exact solution of the Dirac-Pauli equation for a massive neutrino with the anomalous magnetic moment electroweakly interacting with matter under the influence of a plane electromagnetic wave with the circular polarization. We use this result to describe neutrino spin oscillations in the external fields in question. Then we consider several neutrino flavors and study neutrino spin-flavor oscillations in this system. For this purpose we formulate the initial condition problem an…
We studied the Berry curvature of the massive Dirac fermion in 3+1 dimensions. For the non-interacting Dirac fermion, the Berry curvature is non-Abelian because of the degeneracy of positive and negative helicity modes. We calculated the non-Abelian Berry curvature analytically and numerically. For the interacting Dirac fermion in QCD, the degeneracy is lost because gluons carry helicity and color charge. We calculated the Abelian Berry curvature in lattice QCD.
Several proposals for dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking and fermion mass generation involve strong gauge interactions with a characteristic scale of a few hundred GeV. The detection of the glueballs which should occur in such models would be a indication of the non-Abelian nature of the gauge theories operating at this scale. We discuss signatures for these particles.
We study the parity breaking effective action in 2+1 dimensions, generated, at finite temperature, by massive fermions interacting with a non-Abelian gauge background. We explicitly calculate, in the static limit, parity violating amplitudes up to the seven point function, which allows us to determine the corresponding effective actions. We derive the exact parity violating effective action when $\vec{E}=0$. When $\vec{E}\neq 0$, there are families of terms that can be determined order by order in perturbation theory. We attempt to generalize our results to non-static backgrounds through the u…
Using gauge/gravity duality methods, we study the relaxation towards equilibrium of strongly interacting non-Abelian matter. We adopt boundary sourcing to drive the system out-of-equilibrium, and analyze the equilibration process through local probes (energy density and pressures) and nonlocal probes (lengths of the geodesics between two boundary points and extremal surfaces having a Wilson loop as contour on the boundary). We also investigate the real-time dissociation of the heavy quarkonium in the out-of-equilibrium plasma. Systematic comparison with the results of a geometry dual to viscou…
We use a holographic method to investigate thermalization of a boost-invariant strongly interacting non-Abelian plasma. Boundary sourcing, a distorsion of the boundary metric, is employed to drive the system far from equilibrium. Thermalization is analyzed through nonlocal probes: the equal-time two-point correlation function of large conformal dimension operators in the boundary theory, and Wilson loops of different shapes. We study the dependence of the thermalization time on the size of the probes, and compare the results to the ones obtained using local observables: the onset of thermaliza…
A single mass-less fermionic field with an abelian U(1) gauge interaction (electrodynamics of a mass-less Dirac fermion) is studied by a variational method. Even without the insertion of any extra interaction the vacuum is shown to be unstable towards a particle-antiparticle condensate. The single particle excitations do acquire a mass and behave as massive Fermi particles. An explicit low-energy gap equation has been derived and numerically solved. Some consequences of condensation and mass generation are discussed in the framework of the standard model.
There is strong evidence in favor of the idea that dark matter is self interacting, with the cross section-to-mass ratio $σ/ m \sim 1\,\mathrm{cm^2/g} \sim 1\,\mathrm{barn/GeV}$. We show that viable models of dark matter with this large cross section are straightforwardly realized with non-Abelian hidden sectors. In the simplest of such models, the hidden sector is a pure gauge theory, and the dark matter is composed of hidden glueballs with a mass around $100\,\mathrm{MeV}$. Alternatively, the hidden sector may be a supersymmetric pure gauge theory with a $\sim 10\,\mathrm{TeV}$ gluino therma…
A functional formulation and partial solution is given of the non-abelian eikonal problem associated with the exchange of non-interacting, charged or colored bosons between a pair of fermions, in the large $s$/small $t$ limit. A simple, functional ``contiguity" prescription is devised for extracting those terms which exponentiate, and appear to generate the leading, high-energy behavior of each perturbative order of this simplest non-abelian eikonal function; the lowest non-trivial order agrees with the corresponding SU(N) perturbative amplitude, while higher-order contributions to this eikona…
We study regions in the parameter space of the NMSSM which are able to simultaneously explain the current measured values for the $W$ mass $M_W$ and the muon anomalous magnetic moment $a_μ$, and provide a dark matter relic density consistent with the observations as well as constraints from detection experiments. The corresponding regions feature light charginos, sleptons and staus in the 100-800~GeV range, at least some of them with masses below 150~GeV such that the electroweakly-interacting SUSY particles generate sufficiently large contributions to $M_W$. The LSP is always singlino-like wi…
After revisiting the heterotic string-derived low-energy effective model of \cite{Ashfaque:2016ydg, Athanasopoulos:2014bba, Faraggi:2016xnm, Ashfaque:2016jha} constructed in the four-dimensional free fermionic formulation, we find two axions which are either harmful or massive. As a direct consequence, they can not solve the strong $CP$ problem which is in complete agreement with \cite{Lopez:1990iq, Halyo:1993xn}. We also explore the possibility of the self-interacting dark matter residing in the non-Abelian gauge group present in the hidden sector \cite{Faraggi:2000pv}. We find that the low-e…
Dark sectors with strong interactions have received considerable interest. Assuming the existence of a minimally coupled dark sector which runs to strong interactions in the infrared, we address the question whether the scaling behavior of this dark sector can be observed in missing energy signatures at present and future hadron colliders. We compare these findings to the concrete case of self-interacting dark matter and demonstrate that the energy dependence of high-momentum transfer final states can in principle be used to gain information about the UV structure of hidden sectors at future h…
In all scalar extensions of the standard model of particle interactions, the one Higgs boson responsible for electroweak symmetry breaking always mixes with other neutral scalars at tree level unless a symmetry prevents it. An unexplored important option is that the mixing may be radiative, and thus guaranteed to be small. Two first such examples are discussed. One is based on the soft breaking of the discrete symmetry $Z_3$. The other starts with the non-Abelian discrete symmetry $A_4$ which is then softly broken to $Z_3$, and results in the emergence of an interesting dark-matter candidate t…
We propose a new class of dark matter models with unusual phenomenology. What is ordinary about our models is that dark matter particles are WIMPs, they are weakly coupled to the Standard Model and have weak scale masses. What is unusual is that they come in multiplets of a new "dark" non-Abelian gauge group with milli-weak coupling. The massless dark gluons of this dark gauge group contribute to the energy density of the universe as a form of weakly self-interacting dark radiation. In this paper we explore the consequences of having i.) dark matter in multiplets ii.) self-interacting dark rad…
Within SU(2) Yang-Mills theory with a source of the non-Abelian gauge field in the form of a classical spinor field, we study the dependence of the mass gap on the coupling constant between the gauge and nonlinear spinor fields. It is shown that the total dimensionless energy of the monopole interacting with the nonlinear spinor fields depends only on the dimensionless coupling constant.
Dark strings have recently been suggested to exist in new models of dark matter that explain the excessive electronic production in the galaxy. We study the interaction of these dark strings with semilocal strings which are solutions of the bosonic sector of the Standard Model in the limit $\sin^2θ_{\rm w}=1$, where $θ_{\rm w}$ is the Weinberg angle. While embedded Abelian-Higgs strings exist for generic values of the coupling constants, we show that semilocal solutions with non-vanishing condensate inside the string core exist only above a critical value of the Higgs to gauge boson mass ratio…
We generalize the hybrid magneto-fluid model of a charged fluid interacting with an electromagnetic field to the dynamics of a relativistic hot fluid interacting with a non-Abelian field. The fluid itself is endowed with a non-Abelian charge and the consequences of this generalization are worked out. Applications of this formalism to the Quark Gluon Plasma are suggested.
We study electroweakly interacting particles in rotating matter. The existence of the electric current along the axis of the matter rotation is predicted in this system. This new galvano-rotational effect is caused by the parity violating interaction between massless charged particles in the rotating matter. We start with the exact solution of the Dirac equation for a fermion involved in the electroweak interaction in the rotating frame. This equation includes the noninertial effects. Then, using the obtained solution, we derive the induced electric current which turns out to flow along the ro…
A new understanding of the stability of self-interacting dark matter is pointed out, based on the simplest spontaneously broken Abelian $U(1)$ gauge model with one complex scalar and one Dirac fermion. The key is the imposition of dark charge conjugation symmetry. It allows the possible existence of two stable particles: the Dirac fermion and the vector gauge boson which acts as a light mediator for the former's self-interaction. Since this light mediator does not decay, it avoids the strong cosmological constraints recently obtained for all such models where the light mediator decays into sta…
We study a system consisting of a non-Abelian SU(2) Proca field interacting with nonlinear scalar (Higgs) and spinor fields. For such a system, it is shown that particle-like solutions with finite energy do exist. It is demonstrated that the solutions depend on three free parameters of the system, including the central value of the scalar field $ξ_0$. For some fixed values of $ξ_0$, we find energy spectra of the solutions. It is shown that for each of the cases under consideration there is a minimum value of the energy $Δ=Δ(ξ_0)$ (the mass gap $Δ(ξ_0)$ for a fixed value of $ξ_0$). The behavior…
The stable hadronic bound states in a hidden new non-Abelian gauge sector provide interesting candidates for strongly-interacting Dark Matter (DM). A particular example are theories in which DM is made up of dark pions which set the DM relic abundance through self-annihilation. One of the simplest realizations is $Sp(4)_c$ gauge theory with two Dirac fermions. We discuss its mesonic multiplets for degenerate and non-degenerate fermions, construct a low-energy effective theory and present lattice results for the pseudoscalar mesons and vector mesons.
We study a non-Abelian gauge theory with a pseudo scalar coupling ϕε^{μναβ} F_{μν}^a F_{αβ}^a in the case where a constant chromo-electric, or chromo-magnetic, strength expectation value is present. We compute the interaction potential within the framework of gauge-invariant, path-dependent, variables formalism. While in the case of a constant chromo-electric field strength expectation value the static potential remains Coulombic, in the case of a constant chromo-magnetic field strength the potential energy is the sum of a Coulombic and a linear potentials, leading to the confinement of static…
We study the properties of the mass gap for monopole solutions in SU(2) Yang-Mills theory with a source of the non-Abelian gauge field in the form of a spinor field described by the nonlinear Dirac equation. Different types of nonlinearities parameterized by the parameter $λ$ are under consideration. It is shown that for the range of values of this parameter studied in the present paper the value of the mass gap depends monotonically on this parameter, and the position of the mass gap does not practically depend on $λ$.
Based on the most general principles of reality, gauge and reparametrization invariance, a problem of constructing the action describing dynamics of a classical color-charged particle interacting with background non-Abelian gauge and fermion fields is considered. The cases of the linear and quadratic dependence of a Lagrangian on a background fermion field are discussed. It is shown that in both cases in general there exists an infinite number of interaction terms, which should be included in the Lagrangian in question. From a simple iteration scheme, examples of the construction of the first …
In anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking (AMSB) models, superpartner masses are proportional to couplings squared. Their hidden sectors therefore naturally contain WIMPless dark matter, particles whose thermal relic abundance is guaranteed to be of the correct size, even though they are not weakly-interacting massive particles (WIMPs). We study viable dark matter candidates in WIMPless AMSB models with non-Abelian hidden sectors and highlight unusual possibilities that emerge in even the simplest models. In one example with a pure SU(N) hidden sector, stable hidden gluinos freeze out with th…
We explore the impact of asymptotically safe quantum gravity on the Abelian gauge coupling in a model including a charged scalar, confirming indications that asymptotically safe quantum fluctuations of gravity could trigger a power-law running towards a free fixed point for the gauge coupling above the Planck scale. Simultaneously, quantum gravity fluctuations balance against matter fluctuations to generate an interacting fixed point, which acts as a boundary of the basin of attraction of the free fixed point. This enforces an upper bound on the infrared value of the Abelian gauge coupling. In…
We study the geodesic motion of test particles in the space-time of two Abelian-Higgs strings interacting via their magnetic fields. These bound states of cosmic strings constitute a field theoretical realization of p-q-strings which are predicted by inflationary models rooted in String Theory, e.g. brane inflation. In contrast to previously studied models describing p-q-strings our model possesses a Bogomolnyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) limit. If cosmic strings exist it would be exciting to detect them by direct observation. We propose that this can be done by the observation of test particle m…
Starting from SU(2) Yang-Mills theory in 3+1 dimensions, we prove that the abelian-projected effective gauge theories are written in terms of the maximal abelian gauge field and the dual abelian gauge field interacting with monopole current. This is performed by integrating out all the remaining non-Abelian gauge field belonging to SU(2)/U(1). We show that the resulting abelian gauge theory recovers exactly the same one-loop beta function as the original Yang-Mills theory. Moreover, the dual abelian gauge field becomes massive if the monopole condensation occurs. This result supports the dual …
I investigate three dimensional abelian and non-abelian gauge theories interacting with Dirac fermions. Using a variational method I evaluate the vacuum energy density in the one-loop approximation. It turns out that the states with a constant magnetic condensate lie below the perturbative ground state only in the case of three dimensional quantum electrodynamics with massive fermions.
We discuss a consistent theory for a self-interacting vector field, breaking an Abelian symmetry in such a way to obtain an interesting behavior for its longitudinal polarization. In an appropriate decoupling limit, the dynamics of the longitudinal mode is controlled by Galileon interactions. The full theory away from the decoupling limit does not propagate ghost modes, and can be investigated in regimes where non-linearities become important. When coupled to gravity, this theory provides a candidate for dark energy, since it admits de Sitter cosmological solutions characterized by a technical…
We describe a likelihood analysis using MasterCode of variants of the MSSM in which the soft supersymmetry-breaking parameters are assumed to have universal values at some scale $M_{in}$ below the supersymmetric grand unification scale $M_{GUT}$, as can occur in mirage mediation and other models. In addition to $M_{in}$, such `sub-GUT' models have the 4 parameters of the CMSSM, namely a common gaugino mass $m_{1/2}$, a common soft supersymmetry-breaking scalar mass $m_0$, a common trilinear mixing parameter $A$ and the ratio of MSSM Higgs vevs $\tanβ$, assuming that the Higgs mixing parameter …
It has been suggested recently that self-interacting dark matter fits better the observational characteristics of galaxy dynamics. We propose that the self-interacting dark matter is composed from the glueballs of the hidden sector non-Abelian gauge group, while the hidden matter states exist in vector-like representation and decouple from the light spectrum. It is shown that these glueballs are semi-stable with the life-time larger than the present age of the Universe, if their mass is 1 GeV or less. The constraint on their abundance today suggests that the energy was stored in the hidden sec…
