Recently, Gillespie, Levinson and Purbhoo introduced a crystal-like structure for shifted tableaux, called the shifted tableau crystal. We introduce a shifted analogue of the crystal reflection operators, which coincides with the restriction of the shifted Schützenberger involution to any primed interval of two adjacent letters. Unlike type $A$ Young tableau crystals, these operators do not realize an action of the symmetric group on the shifted tableau crystal because braid relations do not hold. We exhibit a natural internal action of the cactus group, realized by restrictions of the shifted Schützenberger involution on primed intervals of the underlying crystal alphabet.

The Bender-Knuth involutions on semistandard Young tableaux are known to coincide with the tableau switching on horizontal border strips of two adjacent letters, together with the swapping of those letters. Motivated by this coincidence and using the shifted tableau switching due to Choi, Nam and Oh (2019), we consider a shifted version of the Bender-Knuth involutions and define a shifted version of the Berenstein-Kirillov group (1995). Similarly to the classical case, the shifted version of the Berenstein-Kirillov group also acts on the straight-shaped shifted tableau crystals introduced by G…

The actions of the cactus group, due to the author, and of the shifted Berenstein-Kirillov group on the Gillespie-Levinson-Purbhoo straight-shaped shifted tableau crystal (2017, 2020) coincide. Following the works of Halacheva (2016, 2020), and…
We give local axioms that uniquely characterize the crystal-like structure on shifted tableaux developed in a previous paper by Gillespie, Levinson, and Purbhoo. These axioms closely resemble those developed by Stembridge for type A tableau crystals. This axiomatic characterization gives rise to a new method for proving and understanding Schur $Q$-positive expansions in symmetric function theory, just as the Stembridge axiomatic structure provides for ordinary Schur positivity.
Let $g_{n_1,n_2}$ be the number of standard Young tableau of truncated shifted shape with $n_1$ rows and $n_2$ boxes in each row. By using of the integral method this paper derives the recurrence relations of $g_{3,n}$, $g_{n,4}$ and $g_{n,5}$ respectively. Specially, $g_{n,4}$ is the $(2n-1)$-st Pell number.
We introduce coplactic raising and lowering operators $E'_i$, $F'_i$, $E_i$, and $F_i$ on shifted skew semistandard tableaux. We show that the primed operators and unprimed operators each independently form type A Kashiwara crystals (but not Stembridge crystals) on the same underlying set and with the same weight functions. When taken together, the result is a new kind of `doubled crystal' structure that recovers the combinatorics of type B Schubert calculus: the highest-weight elements of our crystals are precisely the shifted Littlewood-Richardson tableaux, and their generating functions are…

We give a bijective proof of an identity relating primed shifted gl(n)-standard tableaux to the product of a gl(n) character in the form of a Schur function and a product of sums of x and y terms. This result generalises a number of well--known results due to Robbins and Rumsey, Chapman, Tokuyama, Okada and Macdonald. An analogous result is then obtained in the case of primed shifted sp(2n)-standard tableaux which are bijectively related to the product of a t-deformed sp(2n) character and another x and y product. All results are also interpreted in terms of alternating sign matrix identities, …
We show that the set of increasing factorizations of fixed-point-free (FPF) involution words has the structure of queer supercrystals. By exploiting the algorithm of symplectic shifted Hecke insertion recently introduced by Marberg, we establish the one-to-one correspondence between the set of increasing factorizations of fixed-point-free involution words and the set of primed tableau (semistandard marked shifted tableaux) and the latter admits the structure of queer supercrystals. In order to establish the correspondence, we prove that the Coxeter-Knuth related FPF-involution words have the s…
Using Henriques' and Kamnitzer's cactus groups, Schützenberger's promotion and evacuation operators on standard Young tableaux can be generalised in a very natural way to operators acting on highest weight words in tensor products of crystals. For the crystals corresponding to the vector representations of the symplectic groups, we show that Sundaram's map to perfect matchings intertwines promotion and rotation of the associated chord diagrams, and evacuation and reversal. We also exhibit a map with similar features for the crystals corresponding to the adjoint representations of the general l…
We provide two shifted analogues of the tableau switching process due to Benkart, Sottile, and Stroomer, the shifted tableau switching process and the modified shifted tableau switching process. They are performed by applying a sequence of specially contrived elementary transformations called {\em switches} and turn out to have some spectacular properties. For instance, the maps induced from these algorithms are involutive and behave very nicely with respect to shifted Young tableaux whose reading words satisfy the lattice property. As an application, we give combinatorial interpretations of S…
We define crystal operators on semistandard shifted tableaux, giving a new proof that Schur $P$-functions are Schur positive. We define a queer crystal operator to construct a connected queer crystal on semistandard shifted tableaux of a given shape, providing a new proof that products of Schur $P$-functions are Schur $P$-positive. We also give a rectification map from shifted tableaux to Young tableaux that commutes with the crystal operators and provides a dual algorithm to shifted insertion.
Berenstein and Kirillov have studied the action of Bender-Knuth moves on semistandard tableaux. Losev has studied a cactus group action in Kazhdan-Lusztig theory; in type $A$ this action can also be identified in the work of Henriques and Kamnitzer. We establish the relationship between the two actions. We show that the Berenstein-Kirillov group is a quotient of the cactus group. We use this to derive previously unknown relations in the Berenstein-Kirillov group. We also determine precise implications between subsets of relations in the two groups, which yields a presentation for cactus groups…
The Mukhin-Tarasov-Varchenko Theorem, conjectured by B. and M. Shapiro, has a number of interesting consequences. Among them is a well-behaved correspondence between certain points on a Grassmannian - those sent by the Wronski map to polynomials with only real roots - and (dual equivalence classes of) Young tableaux. In this paper, we restrict this correspondence to the orthogonal Grassmannian OG(n,2n+1) inside Gr(n,2n+1). We prove that a point lies on OG(n,2n+1) if and only if the corresponding tableau has a certain type of symmetry. From this we recover much of the theory of shifted tableaux…
We introduce a new combinatorial object, semistandard increasing decomposition tableau and study its relation to a semistandard decomposition tableau introduced by Kraśkiewicz and developed by Lam and Serrano. We also introduce generalized Littlewood--Richardson coefficients for products of Schur's symmetric functions and give combinatorial descriptions in terms of tableau words. The insertion algorithms play central roles for proofs. A new description of shifted Littlewood--Richardson coefficients is given in terms of semistandard increasing decomposition tableaux. We show that a "big" Schur …
We introduce a shifted analog of the plactic monoid of Lascoux and Schützenberger, the \emph{shifted plactic monoid}. It can be defined in two different ways: via the \emph{shifted Knuth relations}, or using Haiman's mixed insertion. Applications include: a new combinatorial derivation (and a new version of) the shifted Littlewood-Richardson Rule; similar results for the coefficients in the Schur expansion of a Schur $P$-function; a shifted counterpart of the Lascoux-Schützenberger theory of noncommutative Schur functions in plactic variables; a characterization of shifted tableau words; and m…
Classical Schur P-functions are the particular case of Hall-Littlewood polynomials when the parameter is equal to -1. We introduce factorial (interpolation) analogues of Schur P-functions. A dimension of a skew shifted Young diagram is the number of standard tableaux of the given shape. Also these numbers are equal up to simple factors to the decomposition coefficients of the restriction of an irreducible representation of a spin-symmetric group to a smaller spin-symmetric group. In terms of the factorial Schur P-functions we obtain an explicit formula for the dimension of a skew shifted Young…
Results of Morse and Schilling show that the set of increasing factorizations of reduced words for a permutation is naturally a crystal for the general linear Lie algebra. Hiroshima has recently constructed two superalgebra analogues of such crystals. Specifically, Hiroshima has shown that the sets of increasing factorizations of involution words and fpf-involution words for a self-inverse permutation are each crystals for the queer Lie superalgebra. In this paper, we prove that these crystals are normal and identify their connected components. To accomplish this, we study two insertion algori…
