We prove that Matui's AH conjecture holds for graph groupoids of infinite graphs. This is a conjecture which relates the topological full group of an ample groupoid with the homology of the groupoid. Our main result complements Matui's result in the finite case, which makes the AH conjecture true for all graph groupoids covered by the assumptions of said conjecture. Furthermore, we observe that for arbitrary graphs, the homology of a graph groupoid coincides with the $K$-theory of its groupoid $C^*$-algebra.
We investigate the homology of ample Hausdorff groupoids. We establish that a number of notions of equivalence of groupoids appearing in the literature coincide for ample Hausdorff groupoids, and deduce that they all preserve groupoid homology. We compute the homology of a Deaconu{Renault groupoid associated to k pairwisecommuting local homeomorphisms of a zero-dimensional space, and show that Matui's HK conjecture holds for such a groupoid when k is one or two. We specialise to k-graph groupoids, and show that their homology can be computed in terms of the adjacency matrices, using a chain co…
It is proven that Matui's AH~conjecture is true for Katsura--Exel--Pardo groupoids $\mathcal{G}_{A,B}$ associated to integral matrices $A$ and $B$. This conjecture relates the topological full group of an ample groupoid with the homology groups of the groupoid. We also give a criterion under which the topological full group $[[\mathcal{G}_{A,B}]]$ is finitely generated.
We give an example of a locally compact effective Hausdorff, minimal ample groupoid such that its rational homology differs from the $K$-theory of its reduced groupoid $C^*$-algebra. Moreover, we prove that such example satisfies Matui's AH-conjecture.
We compute the homology of the groupoid associated to the Katsura algebras, and show that they capture the $K$-theory of the $C^*$-algebras, and hence satisfying the (HK) conjecture posted by Matui. Moreover, we show that several classifiable simple $C^*$-algebras are groupoid $C^*$-algebras of this class.
We study the topological full group of ample groupoids over locally compact spaces. We extend Matui's definition of the topological full group from the compact, to the locally compact case. We provide two general classes of groupoids for which the topological full group, as an abstract group, is a complete isomorphism invariant. Hereby extending Matui's Isomorphism Theorem. As an application, we study graph groupoids and their topological full groups, and obtain sharper results for this class. The machinery developed in this process is used to prove an embedding theorem for ample groupoids, ak…

Given an ample groupoid, we construct a spectral sequence with groupoid homology with integer coefficients on the second sheet, converging to the K-groups of the (reduced) groupoid C*-algebra, provided the groupoid has torsion-free stabilizers and satisfies a strong form of the Baum-Connes conjecture. The construction is based on the triangulated category approach to the Baum-Connes conjecture developed by Meyer and Nest. We also present a few applications to topological dynamics and discuss the HK conjecture of Matui.
We introduce the notion of continuous orbit equivalence for partial dynamical systems, and give an equivalent characterization in terms of Cartan-isomorphisms for partial C*-crossed products. Both graph C*-algebras and semigroup C*-algebras can be described as C*-algebras attached to partial dynamical systems. As applications, for graphs, we generalize and explain a result of Matsumoto and Matui relating orbit equivalence and Cartan-isomorphism, and for semigroups, we strengthen several structural results for semigroup C*-algebras concerning amenability, nuclearity as well as simplicity of bou…
We prove that ample groupoids with sigma-compact unit spaces are equivalent if and only if they are stably isomorphic in an appropriate sense, and relate this to Matui's notion of Kakutani equivalence. We use this result to show that diagonal-preserving stable isomorphisms of graph C*-algebras or Leavitt path algebras give rise to isomorphisms of the groupoids of the associated stabilised graphs. We deduce that the Leavitt path algebras $L_Z(E_2)$ and $L_Z(E_{2-})$ are not stably *-isomorphic.
We introduce a graded homology theory for graded étale groupoids. For $\mathbb Z$-graded groupoids, we establish an exact sequence relating the graded zeroth-homology to non-graded one. Specialising to the arbitrary graph groupoids, we prove that the graded zeroth homology group with constant coefficients $\mathbb Z$ is isomorphic to the graded Grothendieck group of the associated Leavitt path algebra. To do this, we consider the diagonal algebra of the Leavitt path algebra of the covering graph of the original graph and construct the group isomorphism directly. Considering the trivial grading…
We prove that Kellendonk's $C^*$-algebra of an aperiodic and repetitive tiling with finite local complexity is classifiable by the Elliott invariant. Our result follows from showing that tiling $C^*$-algebras are $\mathcal{Z}$-stable, and hence have finite nuclear dimension. To prove $\mathcal{Z}$-stability, we extend Matui's notion of almost finiteness to the setting of étale groupoid actions following the footsteps of Kerr. To use some of Kerr's techniques we have developed a version of the Ornstein-Weiss quasitiling theorem for general étale groupoids.
The connection between the coarse geometry of metric spaces and analytic properties of topological groupoids is well known. One of the main results of Skandalis, Tu and Yu is that a space admits a coarse embedding into Hilbert space if and only if a certain associated topological groupoid is a-T-menable. This groupoid characterisation then reduces the proof that the coarse Baum-Connes conjecture holds for a coarsely embeddable space to known results for a-T-menable groupoids. The property of admitting a fibred coarse embedding into Hilbert space was introduced by Chen, Wang and Yu to provide a…
Given a (not necessarily discrete) proper metric space $M$ with bounded geometry, we define a groupoid $G(M)$. We show that the coarse Baum--Connes conjecture with coefficients, which states that the assembly map with coefficients for G(M) is an isomorphism, is hereditary by taking closed subspaces.
We study a Going-Down (or restriction) principle for ample groupoids and its applications. The Going-Down principle for locally compact groups was developed by Chabert, Echterhoff and Oyono-Oyono and allows to study certain functors, that arise in the context of the topological K-theory of a locally compact group, in terms of their restrictions to compact subgroups. We extend this principle to the class of ample Hausdorff groupoids using Le Gall's groupoid equivariant version of Kasparov's bivariant KK-theory. Moreover, we provide an application to the Baum-Connes conjecture for ample groupoid…
We introduce a new variant of the coarse Baum-Connes conjecture designed to tackle coarsely disconnected metric spaces called the boundary coarse Baum-Connes conjecture. We prove this conjecture for many coarsely disconnected spaces that are known to be counterexamples to the coarse Baum-Connes conjecture. In particular, we give a geometric proof of this conjecture for spaces of graphs that have large girth and bounded vertex degree. We then connect the boundary conjecture to the coarse Baum-Connes conjecture using homological methods, which allows us to exhibit all the current uniformly discr…
Given two equivalent locally compact Hausdorff groupoids, the Bost conjecture with Banach algebra coefficients is true for one if and only if it is true for the other. This also holds for the Bost conjecture with C*-coefficients. To show these results, the functoriality of Lafforgue's KK-theory for Banach algebras and groupoids with respect to generalised morphisms of groupoids is established. It is also shown that equivalent groupoids have Morita equivalent L^1-algebras (with Banach algebra coefficients).
The generalized Effros-Hahn conjecture for groupoid C*-algebras says that, if G is amenable, then every primitive ideal of the groupoid C*-algebra C*(G) is induced from a stability group. We prove that the conjecture is valid for all second countable amenable locally compact Hausdorff groupoids. Our results are a sharpening of previous work of Jean Renault and depend significantly on his results.
We develop a generalization of quantitative $K$-theory, which we call controlled $K$-theory. It is powerful enough to study the $K$-theory of crossed product of $C^*$-algebras by action of étale groupoids and discrete quantum groups. In this article, we will use it to study groupoids crossed products. We define controlled assembly maps, which factorize the Baum-Connes assembly maps, and define the controlled Baum-Connes conjecture. We relate the controlled conjecture for groupoids to the classical conjecture, and to the coarse Baum-Connes conjecture. This allows to give applications to Coarse …
This paper studies injective envelopes of groupoid dynamical systems and the corresponding boundaries. Analogue to the group case, we associate a bundle of compact Hausdorff spaces to any (discrete) groupoid (the Hamana boundary of the groupoid). We study bundles of compact topological spaces equipped with an action of a groupoid. We show that any groupoid has a minimal boundary (the Furstenberg boundary of the groupoid). We prove that the Hamana and Furstenberg boundaries are the same, for (discrete) groupoids. We find the relation between the reduced crossed product of the $\G$-injective env…
Two conjectures about homology groups, K-groups and topological full groups of minimal etale groupoids on Cantor sets are formulated. We verify these conjectures for many examples of etale groupoids including products of etale groupoids arising from one-sided shifts of finite type. Furthermore, we completely determine when these product groupoids are mutually isomorphic. Also, the abelianization of their topological full groups are computed. They are viewed as generalizations of the higher dimensional Thompson groups.
We extend to arbitrary commutative base rings a recent result of Demeneghi that every ideal of an ample groupoid algebra over a field is an intersection of kernels of induced representations from isotropy groups, with a much shorter proof, by using the author's Disintegration Theorem for groupoid representations. We also prove that every primitive ideal is the kernel of an induced representation from an isotropy group; however, we are unable to show, in general, that it is the kernel of an irreducible induced representation. If each isotropy group is finite (e.g., if the groupoid is principal)…
We compute the homology groups of transformation groupoids associated with odometers and show that certain infinite dihedral group odometers give rise to counterexamples to the HK conjecture, which relates the homology of an essentially principal, minimal, ample groupoid $G$ with the K-theory of $C^*_r(G)$. We also show that transformation grupoids of odometers satisfy the AH conjecture.
We examine a spectral sequence that is naturally associated with the Baum-Connes Conjecture with coefficients for $\mathbb Z^n$ and also constitutes an instance of Kasparov's construction in his work on equivariant $KK$-theory. For $k\leq n$, we give a partial description of the $k$-th page differential of this spectral sequence, which takes into account the natural $\mathbb Z^k$-subactions. In the special case that the action is trivial in $K$-theory, the associated second page differential is given by a formula involving the second page differentials of the canonical $\mathbb Z^2$-subactions…
We prove that the Brauer-Picard group of Morita autoequiv- alences of each of the three fusion categories which arise as an even part of the Asaeda-Haagerup subfactor or of its index 2 extension is the Klein four-group. We describe the 36 bimodule categories which occur in the full subgroupoid of the Brauer-Picard groupoid on these three fusion categories. We also classify all irreducible subfactors both of whose even parts are among these categories, of which there are 111 up to isomorphism of the planar algebra (76 up to duality). Although we identify the entire Brauer-Picard group, there ma…
