Variants of Ando--Hiai type inequalities for deformed means and applications

For an $n$-tuple of positive invertible operators on a Hilbert space, we present some variants of Ando--Hiai type inequalities for deformed means from an $n$-variable operator mean by an operator mean, which is related to the information monotonicity of a certain unital positive linear map. As an application, we investigate the monotonicity of the power mean from the deformed mean in terms of the generalized Kantorovich constants under the operator order. Moreover, we improve the norm inequality for the operator power means related to the Log-Euclidean mean in terms of the Specht ratio.

Power means of probability measures and Ando-Hiai inequality

Let $μ$ be a probability measure of compact support on the set $\mathbb{P}_n$ of all positive definite matrices, let $t\in(0,1]$, and let $P_t(μ)$ be the unique positive solution of $X=\int_{\mathbb{P}_n}X\sharp_t Z dμ(Z)$. In this paper, we show that $$ P_t(μ)\leq I\quad \Longrightarrow\quad P_{\frac{t}{p}}(ν)\leq P_t(μ)$$ for every $p\geq1$, where $ν(Z)=μ(Z^{1/p})$. If $σ$ is a symmetric mean and $f$ is an operator monotone function on $[0, \infty)$, then $$f(2(A^{-1}+B^{-1})^{-1})\le f(AσB)\le f((A+B)/2).$$ Conversely, Ando and Hiai showed that if $f$ is a function that satisfies either one of these inequalities for all positive operators $A$ and $B$ and a symmetric mean different than the arithmetic and the harmonic mean, then the function is operator monotone.
