In this paper, we investigate the tree-dominated $\bar{B}^*_{u,d,s,c} \to V \ell^- \barν_\ell$ ($V=D^*_{u,d}\,,D^*_s\,,J/ψ$ and $\ell=e\,,μ\,,τ$) decays in the Standard Model with the relevant form factors obtained in the light-front quark model. These decays involve much more helicity states relative to the corresponding $\bar{B}^* \to P \ell^- \barν_\ell$ and $\bar{B} \to V \ell^- \barν_\ell$ decays, and moreover, the contribution of longitudinal polarization mode ($V$ meson) is relatively small, $\sim 30\%$, compared with the corresponding $B$ meson decays. We have also computed the branching fraction, lepton spin asymmetry, forward-backward asymmetry and ratio $R_V^{\ast(L)}\equiv \frac{\mathcal{B}(\bar{B}^*\to Vτ^- \barν_τ)}{\mathcal{B}(\bar{B}^*\to V \ell^{\prime-} \barν_{\ell^{\prime}})}$ ($\ell'=e\,,μ$). Numerically, the branching fractions of $\bar{B}^* \to V \ell^{\prime-} \barν_{\ell^{\prime}}$ decays are at the level of ${\cal O}(10^{-7})$, and are hopeful to be observed by LHC and Belle-II experiments. The ratios $R_{D^*\,,D^*_s\,,J/ψ}^{\ast(L)}$ have relatively small theoretical uncertainties and are close to each other, $R^{*(L)}_{D^*}\simeq R^{*(L)}_{D^*_s}\simeq R^{*(L)}_{J/ψ} \simeq [0.26,0.27]~([0.27,0.29])$, which are a bit different from the predictions in some previous works. The future measurements are expected to make tests on these predictions.
We identify the $T$-odd structure functions that appear in the description of polarized top quark decays in the sequential decay $t(\uparrow) \to X_b+W^+(\to \ell^+ + ν_\ell)$ (two structure functions) and the quasi-three-body decay $t(\uparrow) \to X_b+ \ell^+ + ν_\ell$ (one structure function). A convenient measure of the magnitude of the $T$-odd structure functions is the contribution of the imaginary part Im $g_R$ of the right-chiral tensor coupling $g_R$ to the $T$-odd structure functions which we work out. Contrary to the case of QCD the NLO electroweak corrections to polarized top quark…
Motivated by recent $R_D$, $R_{D^*}$ and $R_{J/ψ}$ anomalies in $B\to D\ell^- \barν_{\ell}$, $B\to D^*\ell^- \barν_{\ell}$ and $B_c\to J/ψ\ell^- \barν_{\ell}$ decays, respectively, we study possible R-parity violating supersymmetric effects in $B_c\to J/ψ\ell^- \barν_{\ell},η_c\ell^- \barν_{\ell}$ and $Λ_b \to Λ_c \ell^- \barν_{\ell}$ decays, which are also induced by $b\to c \ell^- \barν_{\ell}$ at quark level. We find that (I) the constrained slepton exchange couplings $λ_{i33}\tildeλ'^*_{i23}$ involving in $b\to c τ^- \barν_τ$ transition from relevant latest experimental data still have qui…
At present, there are discrepancies with the predictions of the standard model in ${\bar B}^0 \to D^{*+} \ell^- {\barν}_\ell$ decays, hinting at the presence of new physics (NP) in $b \to c τ^- {\barν}$. Various NP models have been proposed to explain the data. In this talk, I discuss how the measurement of CP-violating observables in ${\bar B}^0 \to D^{*+} \ell^- {\barν}_\ell$ can be used to differentiate the NP scenarios.
Searches for top quark-associated physics such as $t\bar t W$ or $t\bar t H$ in final states with multiple leptons require a careful accounting of expected backgrounds due to the lack of reconstructible resonances. We demonstrate that the rare top quark decays $t \to \ell' νb \ell\ell$ and $t \to q q' b \ell\ell$, when a soft lepton is not detected, can contribute a non-negligible background to such searches. Simulations in the LHC experiments typically do not account for such decays and as such backgrounds to such searches may be underestimated.
We consider lepton-mass effects in the cascade decays $H\to Z(\to \ell^{+} \ell^{-})+Z^{\ast}(\to τ^{+}τ^{-})$ and $H\to W^{-}(\to \ell^{-}\bar ν_{\ell})+W^{+\ast}(\to τ^{+}ν_τ)$. Since the scale of the problem is set by the off-shellness $q^{2}$ of the respective gauge bosons in the limits $(m_{\ell}+m_{\ell'})^{2} \le q^{2} \le (m_{H}-m_{W,Z})^{2}$ and not by $m_{W,Z}^{2}$, lepton-mass effects are non-negligible for the $τ$ modes in particular close to the threshold of the off-shell decays. Lepton-mass effects show up e.g.\ in the three-fold joint angular decay distribution for the decays. N…
We study the four-body exclusive semileptonic baryonic $\bar B$ decays of $B^-\to p\bar p \ell^- \barν_{\ell}$ ($\ell=e,μ,τ$) in the standard model. We find that their decay branching ratios are about $(1.0, 1.0,0.5)\times 10^{-4}$, respectively. In particular, the electron mode is close to the corresponding CLEO's upper limit of $5.2\times 10^{-3}$, while all results are about one or two orders of magnitude larger than the previous estimated values for the inclusive modes of $\bar B\to {\bf B\bar B'}\ell \bar ν$. Clearly, both B-factories of Belle and BaBar should be able to observe these exc…
Exclusive semileptonic decays based on $b\to s$ transitions have been attracting a lot of attention as some angular observables deviate significantly from the Standard Model (SM) predictions in specific $q^2$ bins. B meson decays induced by other Flavor Changing Neutral Current (FCNC), $b\to d$, can also offer a probe to new physics with an additional sensitivity to the weak phase in Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Masakawa (CKM) matrix. We provide predictions for angular observables for $b\to d$ semileptonic transitions, namely $\bar{B}_s\to K^{\ast}\ell^+\ell^-$, $\bar{B}^0\toρ^0 \ell^+\ell^-$, and their …
We systematically revisit the baryonic four-body semileptonic decays of $B^- \to {\bf B}\bar{\bf B}'\ell^- \barν_{\ell}$ by the perturbative QCD counting rules with ${\bf B}$ representing octet baryons and $\ell=e,μ$. We study the transition form factors of $B^- \to {\bf B} \bar{\bf B}'$ in the limit of $(p_{\bf B}+p_{\bar{\bf B}'})^2 \to \infty $ with the three-body $\bar{B}\to {\bf B}\bar{\bf B}' M$ and $B^- \to p\bar{p} μ^- \barν_μ$ data along with $SU(3)_f$ flavor symmetry. We calculate the decay branching ratios and angular asymmetries as well as the differential decay branching fractions…
We study the charged Higgs effects on the decays of $B^{-} \to τ\barν_τ$ and $\bar B\to P(V) \ell \barν_{\ell}$ with $P=π^{+},D^{+}$ and $V=ρ^{+},D^{*+}$. We concentrate on the minimal supersymmetric standard model with nonholomorphic terms at a large $\tanβ$. To extract new physics contributions, we define several physical quantities related to the decay rate and angular distributions to reduce uncertainties from the QCD as well as the CKM elements. With the constraints from the recent measurement on the decay branching ratio of $B^{-} \to τ\barν_τ$, we find that the charged Higgs effects cou…
A novel approach to reconstruct inclusive $\bar{B} \to X_{s} \ell^{+}\ell^{-}$ decays is presented. The method relies on isopsin symmetry to extrapolate the semi-inclusive signature $X_{b}\to K^{+} \ell^{+}\ell^{-} X$ to the fully inclusive rate in $B^{+}$ and $B^{0}$ decays. We investigate the possibility to measure branching fractions and other observables such as lepton universality ratios and $CP$ asymmetries. As a proof of concept, fast simulation is used to compare the $X_{b}\to K^{+} \ell^{+}\ell^{-} X$ signature with a fully inclusive approach. Several experimental advantages are seen …
We investigate the angular distributions of the rare B decay, $B \to K^* (\to K π) \ell^+ \ell^-$, in general supersymmetric extensions of the standard model. We consider the new physics contributions from the operators $O_{7,8,9,10}$ in small invariant mass region of lepton pair. We show that the azimuthal angle distribution of the decay can tell us the new physics effects clearly from the behavior of the distribution, even if new physics does not change the decay rate substantially from the standard model prediction.
In the framework of a baryon-number-violating effective Lagrangian, we calculate improved lower bounds on partial lifetimes for proton and bound neutron decays, including $p \to \ell^+ \ell'^+ \ell'^-$, $n \to \barν\ell^+ \ell'^-$, $p \to \ell^+ ν\barν$, and $n \to \barν\barνν$, where $\ell$ and $\ell'$ denote $e$ or $μ$, with both $\ell = \ell'$ and $\ell \ne \ell'$ cases. Our lower bounds are substantially stronger than the corresponding lower bounds from direct experimental searches. We also present lower bounds on $(τ/B)_{p \to \ell^+γ}$, $(τ/B)_{n \to \barνγ}$, $(τ/B)_{p \to \ell^+ γγ}$, …
We discuss the uncertainty related to the amount of unwanted $B\to K_0^\ast (Kπ)\ell^+\ell^-$ events in the sample of $B\to K^\ast (Kπ)\ell^+\ell^-$. Those events can increase the measured differential decay rate by up to 10% in the low $q^2$ region, and can be a source of non-negligible uncertainty in the full angular distribution of the $B\to K^\ast (Kπ)\ell^+\ell^-$ decay. Although the transverse asymmetries should be unaffected by the presence of the $S$-wave $Kπ$ pairs, coming from the scalar $K_0^\ast$ meson, we show that in practice their normalization might be sensitive to those events…
BELLE has recently reported the measurement of the branching fraction of the semileptonic $B^{-}\toπ^{+}π^{-}\ell^{-}\barν_\ell$ decay, where $\ell$ represents an electron or a muon. With the new information on the $ππ$ invariant mass spectrum, we extract $|V_{ub}|=(3.31\pm 0.61)\times 10^{-3}$ in agreement with those from the other exclusive $B$ decays. In particular, we determine the non-resonant $B\toππ$ transition form factors, and predict the non-resonant branching fraction ${\cal B}(B^{-}\toπ^{+}π^{-}\ell^{-}\barν_\ell)=(3.5\pm 1.4^{+4.3}_{-2.4})\times 10^{-5}$, which is accessible to th…
Based on the mechanism of neutral meson mixing, we predict the branching fraction of the semileptonic decay of $D_s^+\to π^0 \ell^+ ν_\ell$ ($\ell=e$, $μ$) using recently measured branching fraction of $D_s^+\to ηe^+ν_e$ by BESIII experiment . We also give a formula that can describe the neutral meson mixing of $π^0$, $η$, $η'$ and a pseudoscalar gluonium $G$ in a unified way. The predicted branching fraction of $D_s^+\toπ^0 e^+ν_e$ decay is $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+\toπ^0 e^+ν_e)=(2.65\pm 0.38)\times 10^{-5}$. It is important to search for the decay $D_s^+\to π^0 \ell^+ ν_\ell$ in experiment, in ord…
We discuss the theory and phenomenology of $B_{d,s}\to V(\to M_1M_2)\ell\ell$ decays in the presence of neutral-meson mixing. We derive expressions for the time-dependent angular distributions for decays into CP eigenstates, and identify the relevant observables that can be extracted from time-integrated and time-dependent analyses with or without tagging, with a focus on the difference between measurements at $B$-factories and hadronic machines. We construct two observables of interest, which we call $Q_8^-$ and $Q_9$, and which are theoretically clean at large recoil. We compute these two ob…
A search for lepton flavor violating decays of the $τ$ lepton to a lighter mass lepton and a pseudoscalar meson has been performed using 339 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy near 10.58 GeV by the BaBar detector at the SLAC PEP-II storage ring. No evidence of signal has been found, and upper limits on the branching fractions are set at $10^{-7}$ level.
We briefly discuss the status of the NNLL QCD calculations in the inclusive rare B decay $B \to X_s \ell^+ \ell^-$. Two important ingredients, the two-loop matrix elements of the four quark operator ${\cal O}_2$ and the bremsstrahlung contributions, were quite recently finalised. The new contributions significantly improve the sensitivity of the inclusive decay $B \to X_s l^+ l^-$ decay in testing extensions of the standard model in the sector of flavour dynamics; for instance the two-loop calculation cuts the low- scale uncertainty in half and the bremsstrahlung calculation leads to a 10% shi…
We calculate the QED and QCD radiative corrections to the charged lepton energy distributions in the dominant semileptonic decays of the top quark $t \to b W^+ \to b(\ell^+ ν_\ell)$ $(\ell=e, μ, τ)$ in the standard model(SM), and for the decay $t \to b H^+ \to b(τ^+ ν_τ)$ in an extension of the SM having a charged Higgs boson $H^\pm$ with $m_{H^\pm} < m_t -m_b$. The QCD corrections are calculated in the leading and next-to-leading logarithmic approximations, but the QED corrections are considered in the leading logarithmic approximation only. These corrections are numerically important for pre…
We investigate the experimentally-accessible kinematic distributions of the $\bar B\to D^{(*)}τ^-(\to\ell^-\barν_\ellν_τ)\barν_τ$ decays. Specifically, we study the decay rates as functions of the $B\to D^{(*)}$ transferred squared momentum, the energy of the final charged lepton and the angle of its 3-momentum relative to the 3-momentum of the recoiling $D^{(*)}$. The angular distribution allows to introduce new observables, like a forward-backward asymmetry, which are complementary to the total rates. We present analytic formulas for the observable 3-fold 5-body differential decay rates, stu…
Exclusive rare Higgs decays into lepton pair plus one light hadron, such as $h\to ρ^0(ω)\ell\bar{\ell}$, $h\to π^0\ell\bar{\ell}$, $h\to π^+ (K^+)\ell^-\barν_\ell$, and $h\to ρ^+(K^{*+})\ell^-\barν_\ell$, have been explored in the standard model. Decay amplitudes are dominantly from the Higgs couplings to gauge bosons and to charged leptons, and their branching ratios are predicted in the range of $10^{-8}\sim 10^{-5}$. We have also analyzed the differential dilepton invariant mass and angular distributions of $h\to ρ^0 \ell^+\ell^-$ decays. It will be challenging to search for these rare proc…
Semileptonic decay processes of $Ξ_c \to Ξ\ellν_\ell$ are studied by light-cone QCD sum rules in this paper. The six form factors of $Ξ_c \to Ξ$ semileptonic transition matrix elements are calculated by this method with the light-cone distribution amplitudes of $Ξ$ baryon up to twist six. With the six form factors, the absolute branching ratios of $Ξ_c^0 \to Ξ^- \ell^+ ν_\ell$ and $Ξ_c^+ \to Ξ^0 \ell^+ ν_\ell$ are calculated by the helicity amplitudes formalism of semileptonic differential decay widths. The ratios of absolute branching ratios of electron and muon final states processes give th…
We present a detailed analysis of QED corrections to $\bar{B} \to \bar{K} \ell^+ \ell^-$ decays at the double-differential level. Cancellations of soft and collinear divergences are demonstrated analytically using the phase space slicing method. Whereas soft divergences are found to cancel at the differential level, the cancellation of the hard-collinear logs $\ln m_\ell$ require, besides photon-inclusiveness, a specific choice of kinematic variables. In particular, hard-collinear logs in the lepton-pair invariant mass distribution ($q^2$), are sizeable and need to be treated with care when co…
We analyze the factorization to subleading power in the flavor changing neutral current process $\bar B\to X_s \ell^+ \ell^-$. In particular, we compute the so-called resolved contributions and explore the numerical impact on observables. In these contributions the virtual photon couples to light partons instead of connecting directly to the effective weak-interaction vertex. They represent an irreducible uncertainty in the inclusive $\bar B \to X_s \ell^+ \ell^-$ decay which cannot be removed by relaxing the experimentally necessary cuts in the hadronic mass spectrum.
The rare decays $B_{s,d}^0 \to \ell^+\ell^-$ are analyzed within the general framework of the aligned two-Higgs doublet model. We present a complete one-loop calculation of the relevant short-distance Wilson coefficients, giving a detailed technical summary of our results and comparing them with previous calculations performed in particular limits or approximations. We investigate the impact of various model parameters on the branching ratios and study the phenomenological constraints imposed by present data.
Rare inclusive $B$ decays such as $\bar{B}\to X_{s(d)} \ell^+\ell^-$ are interesting probes for physics beyond the Standard Model. Due to the complementarity to their exclusive counterparts, they might shed light on the anomalies currently seen in exclusive $b \to s$ transitions. Distinguishing new-physics effects from the Standard Model requires precise predictions and necessitates the control of long distance effects. In the present work we revisit and improve the description of various long distance effects in inclusive decays such as charmonium and light-quark resonances, nonfactorisable p…
The $B$ meson semileptonic modes to $ρ(770)$ and $a_1 (1260)$ are useful to pin down possible non Standard Model effects. The 4d differential $\bar B \to ρ(ππ) \ell^- \bar ν_\ell$ and $ \bar B \to a_1 (ρπ) \ell^- \bar ν_\ell$ decay distributions are computed in SM and in extensions involving new Lepton Flavour Universality violating semileptonic $b \to u$ operators. The Large Energy limit for the light meson is also considered for both modes. The new effective couplings are constrained using the available data, and several observables in $\bar B \to ρ(ππ) \ell^- \bar ν_\ell$ in which NP effect…
We present the prospects of an angular analysis of the $Λ_b \to Λ(1520)\ell^+\ell^-$ decay. Using the expected yield in the current dataset collected at the LHCb experiment, as well as the foreseen ones after the LHCb upgrades, sensitivity studies are presented to determine the experimental precision on angular observables related to the lepton distribution and their potential to identify New Physics. The forward-backward lepton asymmetry at low dilepton invariant mass is particularly promising. NP scenarios favoured by the current anomalies in $b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$ decays can be distinguished …
We present a model-independent analysis of $K^+\toπ^+\ell^+\ell^-$ and $K_S\toπ^0\ell^+\ell^-$ decays, including $K\to 3 π$ unitarity corrections and a general decomposition of the dispersive amplitude. From the existing data on $K^+\toπ^+ e^+ e^-$ we predict the ratio $R= B(K^+\toπ^+μ^+μ^-)/B(K^+\toπ^+ e^+ e^-)$ to be larger than 0.23, in slight disagreement with the recent measurement $R = 0.167 \pm 0.036$. Consequences for the $K^\pm \toπ^\pm e^+ e^-$ charge asymmetries and for the $K_L\toπ^0 e^+ e^-$ mode are also discussed.
In this work we study the effects of new-physics (NP) operators with different Lorentz structures on the inclusive $B \to X_cτ\barν$ decay and make predictions for the ratio of total decay rates $R(X_c)=\frac{Γ(B \to X_cτ\barν_τ)}{Γ(B \to X_c \ell \barν_\ell)}$ with $\ell=e, μ$, the differential decay rates, $\frac{dΓ}{dq^2}$ and $\frac{dΓ}{dE_τ}$, forward-backward asymmetry $A_{FB}$ and the ratio of the differential decay rates $B(q^2)=\frac{dΓ(B \to X_cτ\barν_τ)/dq^2}{dΓ(B \to X_c \ell \barν_\ell)/dq^2}$. In addition, we introduce some leptoquark models as explicit models of the NP operators…
We consider rare semileptonic decays of a heavy $D$-meson into a light vector meson in the framework of QCD factorization. In contrast to the corresponding $B$-meson decays, the naive factorization hypothesis does not even serve as a first approximation. Rather, the decay amplitudes appear to be dominated by non-factorizable dynamics, e.g. through annihilation topologies, which are particularly sensitive to long-distance hadronic contributions. We therefore pay particular attention to intermediate vector-meson resonances appearing in quark-loop and annihilation topologies. Compared to the anal…
We provide hadronic input for the $B$-meson semileptonic transitions to a light pseudoscalar meson at large recoil. The $B_s\to K$ form factor calculated from QCD light-cone sum rule is updated, to be used for a $|V_{ub}|$ determination from the $B_s\to K \ell ν$ width. Furthermore, we calculate the hadronic input for the binned observables of $B \to π\ell^+ \ell^-$ and $B \to K \ell^+ \ell^-$. In addition to the form factors, the nonlocal hadronic matrix elements are obtained, combining QCD factorization and light-cone sum rules with hadronic dispersion relations. We emphasize that, due to no…
The present experimental status of searches for lepton flavor violating decays of the $τ$ lepton to a lighter mass lepton and a photon or a pseudoscalar meson is presented. The results obtained are from $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy near 10.58 GeV by the \babar and the Belle detectors. In order to benefit from larger available datasets, the first $\babar-$Belle combinations of upper limits on the branching fractions of lepton flavor violating $τ$-decays are obtained.
We update the branching ratios for the inclusive decays $B\to X_s \ell^+ \ell^-$ and the exclusive decays $B\to (K,K^*) \ell^+ \ell^-$, with $\ell=e, \m$, in the standard model by including the explicit $O(\a_s)$ and $Λ_{\hbox{\tiny QCD}} / m_b$ corrections. This framework is used in conjunction with the current measurements of the branching ratios for $B\to X_s \g$ and $B\to K \ell^+ \ell^-$ decays and upper limits on the branching ratios for the decays $B\to (K^*,X_s) \ell^+ \ell^-$ to work out bounds on the Wilson coefficients $C_7$, $C_8$, $C_9$ and $C_{10}$ appearing in the effective Hami…
The rare multi-body decays B->K pi ll and B_s->K K ll are both important as backgrounds to precision analyses in the benchmark modes B->K* ll and B_s->phi ll as well as sensitive probes of flavor physics in and beyond the standard model. We work out non-resonant contributions to B->K pi ll and B_s->K K ll amplitudes, where l=e,mu, at low hadronic recoil in a model-independent way. Using the operator product expansion in 1/m_b, we present expressions for the full angular distribution. The latter allows to probe new combinations of |Delta B|=|Delta S|=1 couplings and gives access to strong phase…
$|Δc|=|Δu|=1$ processes are unique probes of flavor physics in the up-sector within and beyond the Standard Model (SM). SM tests with rare semileptonic charm meson decays are based on an approximate CP--symmetry, a superior GIM--mechanism, angular distributions, lepton-universality and lepton flavor conservation. We analyze the complete set of null test observables in $D \to π\ell \ell^{(\prime)}$ and $D_s \to K \ell \ell^{(\prime)}$ decays, $\ell^{(\prime)}=e, μ$, and find large room for new physics safely above the SM contribution. We identify signatures of supersymmetry, leptoquarks and ano…
We derive the expressions for the full angular distributions of $\bar B\to D\ell\bar ν_\ell$ and $\bar B\to D^{\ast }\ell\bar ν_\ell$ decays and discuss the spectra on each angle separately. The coefficient functions, depending on helicity amplitudes, can then be combined in an ensemble of observables which can then be used to check for the presence of New Physics. We examine the sensitivity of each of these observables on the presence of non-Standard Model interaction terms at low energies. The expressions presented here are general and can be used for studying any other semileptonic pseudosc…
We study the decay rate and the CP violating asymmetry of the exclusive B-> pi ell+ ell- and B-> rho ell+ ell- decays in the case where one of the final leptons is polarized. We calculate the contributions coming from the individual polarization states in order to identify a so-called wrong sign decay, which is a decay with a given polarization, whose width and CP asymmetry are smaller as compared to the unpolarized one. The results are presented for electron and tau leptons. We observe that in particular decay channels, one can identify a wrong sign decay which is more sensitive to new physic…
We develop a methodology for the computation of the $K\to \ellν_\ell \ell'^+ \ell'^-$ decay width using lattice QCD and present an exploratory study here. We use a scalar function method to account for the momentum dependence of the decay amplitude and adopt the infinite volume reconstruction method to reduce the systematic errors such as the temporal truncation effects and the finite-volume effects. We then perform a four-body phase-space integral to obtain the decay width. The only remaining technical problem is the possible power-law finite-volume effects associated with the process of $K\t…
Besides being important to determine Standard Model parameters such as the CKM matrix elements $|V_{cb}|$ and $|V_{ub}|$, semileptonic $B$ decays seem also promising to reveal new physics (NP) phenomena, in particular in connection with the possibility of uncovering lepton flavour universality (LFU) violating effects. In this view, it could be natural to connect the tensions in the inclusive versus exclusive determinations of $|V_{cb}|$ to the anomalies in the ratios $R(D^{(*)})$ of decay rates into $τ$ vs $μ, e$. However, the question has been raised about the role of the parametrization of t…
In this paper, we investigate the effects of the fourth generation of quarks on the double-lepton polarization asymmetries in the $B_s \rar ϕ\ell^+ \ell^-$ decay. It is shown that these asymmetries in $B_s \rar ϕ\ell^+ \ell^-$ decay compared with those of $B \rar K \ell^+ \ell^-$ decay are more sensitive to the fourth-generation parameters. We conclude that an efficient way to establish the existence of the fourth generation of quarks could be the study of these asymmetries in the $B_s \rar ϕ\ell^+ \ell^-$ decay.
We study the exclusive leptonic and semileptonic $B$ decays $B \to \ell^- \barν$ and $B \to D^{(\ast)} \ell^-\barν$ in the framework of the covariant quark model with built-in infrared confinement. We compute the relevant form factors in the full kinematical momentum transfer region. The calculated form factors are used to evaluate branching fractions and polarization observables of the above transitions. We compare our results with experimental data and results from other theoretical studies.
We reassess the $B\toπ\ellν_{\ell}$ differential branching ratio distribution experimental data released by the BaBar and Belle Collaborations supplemented with all lattice calculations of the $B\toπ$ form factor shape available up to date obtained by the HPQCD, FNAL/MILC and RBC/UKQCD Collaborations. Our study is based on the method of Padé approximants, and includes a detailed scrutiny of each individual data set that allow us to obtain $|V_{ub}|=3.53(8)_{\rm{stat}}(6)_{\rm{syst}}\times10^{-3}$. The semileptonic $B^{+}\toη^{(\prime)}\ell^{+}ν_{\ell}$ decays are also addressed and the $η$-$η^…
A new model-independent parametrization is proposed for the hadronic form factors in the semileptonic $\bar{B}\to D\ell\barν_\ell$ decay. By a combined consideration of the recent experimental and lattice QCD data, we determine precisely the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cb}|=41.01(75)\times 10^{-3}$ and the ratio $\mathcal{R}_D=\frac{\mathcal{BR}(\bar{B}\to D τ\barν_τ)}{\mathcal{BR}(\bar{B}\to D \ell \barν_\ell)}=0.301(5)$. The coefficients in this parametrization, related to phase shifts by sumrulelike dispersion relations and hence called phase moments, encode important scat…
We investigate the CP violating asymmetry, the forward backward asymmetry and the CP violating asymmetry in the forward-backward asymmetry for the inclusive B->X_d \ell^+\ell^- decays for the \ell=e,μτchannels in the standard model. It is observed that these asymmetries are quite sizable and B->X_d \ell^+\ell^- decays seem promising for investigating CP violation.
A precise comparison is made between the Dalitz decay $H\to\ell\bar{\ell}γ$ and the two body decay $H\toγZ,Z\to\ell\bar{\ell}$ for electrons and for muons including experimental cuts appropriate for the ATLAS detector. The widths for these two processes differ by 8% for electrons and 3% for muons. Given that there remain QCD radiative corrections of this order that are not included, this suggests that the isolation of the Dalitz decay will be challenging.
Our article is devoted to the study of the rare $B\to K^\ast \ell^+\ell^-$~decay where $\ell=e,μ,τ$. We compute the relevant form factors in the framework of the covariant quark model with infrared confinement in the full kinematical momentum transfer region. The calculated form factors are used to evaluate branching fractions and polarization observables in the cascade decay $B\to K^\ast(\to Kπ)\ell^+\ell^-$. We compare the obtained results with available experimental data and the results from other theoretical approaches.
We parametrize phenomenologically possible new physics effects and calculate their influence on the invariant dilepton mass spectrum and the Dalitz plot for the decays $B \to K \ell^+ \ell^-$ and $B \to K^\ast \ell^+ \ell^-$. Especially the decay into $K^*$ yields a wealth of new information on the form of the new interactions since the Dalitz plot is sensitive to subtle interference effects. We also show how transversely polarized $K^*$-mesons give additional information.
The covariant density matrix formalism is used to obtain the joint angular distribution of the decay B_s -> J/ψϕ(1020) with subsequent ϕ-> ρπand J/ψ-> \ell^+ \ell^- decays. The result is shown algebraically to be a special case of our previous work on the decay distribution of B_d -> J/ψK_1(1270) with K_1 -> K πand J/ψ-> \ell^+ \ell^-.
We present an analysis of the decay process ${\bar B} \to {\bar K}_2(1430) \ell^+ \ell^-$, where this process has all the features of the related and well investigated process ${\bar B} \to {\bar K}^*(890) \ell^+ \ell^-$, with theoretically comparable branching ratios. The differential decay rate as well as the forward-backward asymmetry are worked out, where the sensitivity of these to possible right-handed couplings for the related $b \to s$ radiative decay are also investigated.
Many exclusive $c\to d/s\ell^+ν_\ell~(\ell=e,μ,τ)$ transitions have been well measured, and they can be used to test the theoretical calculations. Motivated by this, we study the $D\to P/V/S\ell^+ν_\ell$ decays induced by the $c\to d/s\ell^+ν_\ell$ transitions with the SU(3) flavor symmetry approach, where $P$ denotes the pseudoscalar meson, $V$ denotes the vector meson, and $S$ denotes the scalar meson with a mass below $1$ $GeV$. The different decay amplitudes of the $D\to P\ell^+ν_\ell$, $D\to V\ell^+ν_\ell$ or $D\to S\ell^+ν_\ell$ decays can be related by using the SU(3) flavor symmetry an…
This article analyses the available inputs in $\btopilnu$ and $\btorholnu$ decays which include the measured values of differential rate in different $q^2$-bins (lepton invariant mass spectrum), lattice, and the newly available inputs on the relevant form-factors from the light-cone sum rules (LCSR) approach. We define different fit scenarios, and in each of these scenarios, we predict a few observables in the standard model (SM). For example, $R(M) =\frac{\mathcal{B}(B \to M\ell_iν_{\ell_i})}{\mathcal{B}(B\to M\ell_jν_{\ell_j})} $, $R^{\ell_i}_{\ell_j}(M) =\frac{\mathcal{B}(B\to \ell_iν_{\ell…
We calculate the independent helicity amplitudes in the decays B --> K^* ell^+ ell^- and B --> rho ell nu_ell in the so-called Large-Energy-Effective-Theory (LEET). Taking into account the dominant O(alpha_s) and SU(3) symmetry-breaking effects, we calculate various Dalitz distributions in these decays making use of the presently available data and decay form factors calculated in the QCD sum rule approach. Differential decay rates in the dilepton invariant mass and the Forward-Backward asymmetry in B --> K^* ell^+ ell^- are worked out. We also present the decay amplitudes in the transversity …
We briefly review the status of rare radiative and semileptonic $b \to s (γ, \ell^+ \ell^-)$, ($\ell=e,μ$) decays. We discuss possible signatures of new physics in these modes and emphazise the role of the exclusive channels. In particular, measurements of the Forward-Backward asymmetry in $B \to K^* \ell^+ \ell^-$ decays and its zero provide a clean test of the Standard Model, complementary to studies in $b \to s γ$ decays. Further, the Forward-Backward CP asymmetry in $B \to K^* \ell^+ \ell^-$ decays is sensitive to possible non-standard sources of CP violation mediated by flavor changing ne…
Using the massive helicity formalism we calculate the five-body average square amplitude of the decays $τ^{-}\to \ell_i^{-} \ell_i^{+} \ell_j^{-} \barν_{j} ν_τ$ $(\ell=e,\,μ)$ within the Standard Model (SM), we then introduce a dimension-five effective vertex $Γ^{ττγ}$ in order to determine the feasibility of imposing limits on the tau anomalous magnetic dipole moment ($a_τ$) via the current or future experimental measurements of the branching ratio for the decay $τ^{-}\to e^{-} e^{+} e^{-} \barν_{e} ν_τ$.
