In this paper we discuss the Standard Model and new physics sensitivity of the $Λ_b\toΛ^\ast(1520)(\to N\!\bar{K})\ell^+\ell^-$ decay at low-recoil, where $\ell^\pm$ are massive leptons and $N\!\bar{K}=\{pK^-, n\bar{K}^0 \}$. We provide a full angular distribution with a set of operators that includes the Standard Model operators and their chirality flipped counterparts, and new scalar and pseudo-scalar operators. The resulting angular distribution allows us to construct observables that we study in the Standard Model and in model-independent new physics scenarios. To reduce the hadronic effects emanating from the $Λ_b\toΛ^\ast(1520)$ transition form factors, we exploit the Heavy Quark Effective theory framework valid at low $Λ^\ast(1520)$ recoil, \emph{i.e.,} large dilepton invariant mass squared $q^2\sim \mathcal{O}(m_b^2)$. Working to the leading order in $1/m_b$ and including $\mathcal{O}(α_s)$ corrections, we compute the `improved Isgur-Wise relations' between the form factors. The relations correlate the form factors and thereby allow the description of this decay at the low-recoil region with a smaller number of independent form factors.
We calculate the transition form factors that occur in heavy $Λ$-type baryon semileptonic decays as e.g. in $Λ_{b} \to Λ_{c}^{+} + l^{-} + \barν_{l} $. We use Bauer-Stech-Wirbel type infinite momentum frame wave functions for the heavy $Λ$-type baryons which we assume to consist of a heavy quark and a light spin-isospin zero diquark system. The form factors at $ q^{2} = 0 $ are calculated from the overlap integrals of the initial and final $Λ$-type baryon states. To leading order in the heavy mass scale the structure of the form factors agrees with the HQET predictions including the normalizat…
We postulate a supplemental power counting within the heavy quark effective theory, that results in a small, highly-constrained set of second-order power corrections, compared to the standard approach. We determine all $\bar{B} \to D^{(*)}$ form factors, both within and beyond the standard model to $\mathcal{O}(α_s/m_{c,b}, 1/m_{c,b}^2)$, under truncation by this power counting. We show that the second-order power corrections to the zero-recoil normalization of the $\bar{B} \to D^{(*)} l ν$ matrix elements ($l = e$, $μ$, $τ$) are fully determined by hadron mass parameters, and are in good agre…
We consider the non-forward amplitude within the Heavy Quark Effective theory. We show that one can obtain new information on the subleading corrections in 1/m_Q. We illustrate the method by deriving new simple relations between the functions Xsi_3(w) and Lambdabar Xsi(w) and the sums Sum_n DeltaE^(n)_j tau^(n)_j(1) tau^(n)_j(w) (j=1/2,3/2), that involve leading quantities, namely the Isgur-Wise functions tau^(n)_j(w) and the level spacings DeltaE^(n)_j. The simplicity of our results follows from the fact that, for the non-forward amplitude B(v_i)->D^(n)(v')->B(v_f), there are three variables …
The Bakamjian-Thomas relativistic quark model for hadron current matrix elements, while non-covariant at finite mass, is successful in the heavy quark limit : form factors are covariant and satisfy Isgur-Wise scaling and Bjorken-Uraltsev sum rules. Motivated by the so-called "1/2 vs. 3/2 puzzle" in B decays to positive parity D**, we examine the implications of the model at finite mass. In the elastic case 1/2^- -> 1/2^-, the HQET constraints for the O(1/m_Q) corrections are analytically fulfilled. A number of satisfying regularities is also found for inelastic transitions. We compute the form…
We present the first preliminary results for the semileptonic form factor $h_{A_1}(w=1)/ρ_{A_j}$ at zero recoil for the $\bar B \rightarrow D^\ast \ell \bar ν$ decay using lattice QCD with four flavors of sea quarks. We use the HISQ staggered action for the light valence and sea quarks (the MILC HISQ configurations), and the Oktay-Kronfeld (OK) action for the heavy valence quarks.
We analyse $B\to K^\ast \ell\ell$ decays in the region of low hadronic recoil, where an operator product expansion (OPE) in $1/m_b$ applies. Using a local model for charm contributions based on $e^+ e^- \to hadrons$ against the OPE provides a data-driven method to access the limitations to the OPE's accuracy related to binnings in the dilepton mass. Model-independent fits to $B\to K^\ast μμ$ low recoil angular observables exhibit presently only small sensitivity to different charm models. They give similar results as the fits based on the OPE, and are in agreement with the standard model, but …
$B$ anomalies play a prominent role in Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) physics searches. In particular, the long standing tension between the inclusive and the exclusive determinations of the CKM matrix element $|V_{cb}|$ and the current tensions in the $R(D)$--$R(D^\ast)$ plane between theory and experiment have brought the $B\to D^{(\ast)}\ellν$ semileptonic processes to the spotlight. Existing lattice-QCD calculations of the $B\to D\ellν$ form factors at non-zero recoil are being complemented with very recent developments in the $B\to D^\ast\ellν$ channel. In this review I discuss recent pr…
In this work we use the heavy-quark-light-diquark picture to study the semileptonic decay $Λ_b \to Λ_c+l+\barν_l$ in the so-called hybrid scheme. Namely, we apply the heavy quark effective theory (HQET) for larger $q^2$ (corresponding to small recoil), which is the invariant mass square of $l+\barν$, whereas the perturbative QCD approach for smaller $q^2$ to calculate the form factors. The turning point where we require the form factors derived in the two approaches to be connected, is chosen near $ρ_{cut}=1.1$. It is noted that the kinematic parameter $ρ$ which is usually adopted in the pertu…
We present preliminary blinded results from our analysis of the form factors for $B\rightarrow D^\ast\ellν$ decay at non-zero recoil. Our analysis includes 15 MILC asqtad ensembles with $N_f=2+1$ flavors of sea quarks and lattice spacings ranging from $a\approx 0.15$ fm down to $0.045$ fm. The valence light quarks employ the asqtad action, whereas the $b$ and $c$ quarks are treated using the Fermilab action. We discuss the impact that our results will have on $\left|V_{cb}\right|$ and $R(D^\ast)$.
In the framework of three-point QCD sum rules, the form factors for the semileptonic decays of B_c^+ -> B_s(B_s^*) l νare calculated with account for the Coulomb-like alpha_s/v-corrections in the heavy quarkonium. The generalized relations due to the spin symmetry of HQET/NRQCD for the form factors are derived at the recoil momentum close to zero. The nonleptonic decays are studied using the assumption on the factorization. The B_c meson lifetime is estimated by summing up the dominating exclusive modes in the c -> s transition combining the current calculations with the previous analysis of b…
We study the rare decay $B\to K_2^\ast(1430)(\to Kπ)\ell^+\ell^-$ in the Standard Model and beyond. Working in the transversity basis, we exploit the relations between the heavy-to-light form factors in the limit of heavy quark ($m_b\to \infty$) and large energy ($E_{K_2^\ast}\to \infty$) of the $K^\ast_2$ meson. This allows us to construct observables where at leading order in $Λ_{\rm QCD}/m_b$ and $α_s$ the form factor dependence involving the $B\to K^\ast_2$ transitions cancels. Higher order corrections are systematically incorporated in the numerical analysis. In the Standard Model the dec…

We derive new QCD sum rules for $B\to D$ and $B\to D^*$ form factors. The underlying correlation functions are expanded near the light-cone in terms of $B$-meson distribution amplitudes defined in HQET, whereas the $c$-quark mass is kept finite. The leading-order contributions of two- and three-particle distribution amplitudes are taken into account. From the resulting light-cone sum rules we calculate all $B\to \Dst $ form factors in the region of small momentum transfer (maximal recoil). In the infinite heavy-quark mass limit the sum rules reduce to a single expression for the Isgur-Wise fun…
The CKM matrix elements $V_{cb}$ and $V_{ub}$ can be obtained by combining data from the experiments with lattice QCD results for the semi-leptonic form factors for the $\bar{B} \to D^\ast \ell \barν$ and $\bar{B} \to π\ell \barν$ decays. It is highly desirable to use the Oktay-Kronfeld (OK) action for the form factor calculation on the lattice, since the OK action is designed to reduce the heavy quark discretization error down to the $\mathcal{O}(λ^4)$ level in the power counting rules of the heavy quark effective theory (HQET). Here, we present a matching calculation to improve heavy-heavy a…
We pursue the program of the study of the non-forward amplitude in HQET. We obtain new sum rules involving the elastic subleading form factors $χ_i(w)$ $(i = 1,2, 3)$ at order $1/m_Q$ that originate from the ${\cal L}_{kin}$ and ${\cal L}_{mag}$ perturbations of the Lagrangian. To obtain these sum rules we use two methods. On the one hand we start simply from the definition of these subleading form factors and, on the other hand, we use the Operator Product Expansion. To the sum rules contribute only the same intermediate states $ (j^P, J^P) = ({1 \over 2}^-, 1^-), ({3\over 2}^-, 1^-)$ that en…

Small changes in the masses of massive external scattering states should correspond to small changes in the non-perturbative parameterization of form factors in quantum field theory, as long as the relevant energy range is not near strong deformations. Here, the definition of ``small'' is investigated and applied to $SU(3)$ breaking in semileptonic $B_{(s)}\rightarrow D_{(s)}$ transitions. When unitarity and analyticity are imposed, the differences in the form factors for semileptonic $B\rightarrow D$ versus $B_s\rightarrow D_s$ decays are found to be within $\mathcal{O}(1\%)$ over the entire …
The dark matter direct detection rates are highly correlated with the phase space distribution of dark matter particles in our galactic neighbourhood. In this paper, we make a systematic study of the impact of astrophysical uncertainties on electron recoil events at the direct detection experiments with Xenon and semiconductor detectors. We find that within the standard halo model there can be up to $ \sim 50\%$ deviation from the fiducial choice in the exclusion bounds from these observational uncertainties. For non-standard halo models, we report a similar deviation from the fiducial standar…
The study on the charmed scalar meson spectroscopy has become a hot topic both experimentally and theoretically. The $B_{(s)}$ decays provide an ideal place to study their property. We employ the $B$-meson light-cone sum rules to compute the $\bar B_s^0\to D_s^{*+}(2317)$ and $B^-\to D_0^{*0}(2400)$ transition form factors at large recoil, assuming $D_s^{*+}(2317)$ and $D_0^{*0}(2400)$ being scalar quark-anti-quark states. The results are extrapolated to the whole momentum region with the help of HQET. Considering large uncertainties, our results can be consistent with the previous studies, wh…
We compute the decays ${B\to D^\ast_0}$ and ${B\to D^\ast_2}$ with finite masses for the $b$ and $c$ quarks. We first discuss the spectral properties of both the $B$ meson as a function of its momentum and of the $D^\ast_0$ and $D^\ast_2$ at rest. We compute the theoretical formulae leading to the decay amplitudes from the three-point and two-point correlators. We then compute the amplitudes at zero recoil of ${B\to D^\ast_0}$ which turns out not to be vanishing contrary to what happens in the heavy quark limit. This opens a possibility to get a better agreement with experiment. To improve the…
The form factors relevant to $B_{q}\to D^{\ast}_{q}(J^{P}=1^{-}) ellν$ $(q=s, d, u)$ decays are calculated in the framework of the three point QCD sum rules approach. The heavy quark effective theory prediction of the form factors as well as $1/m_{b}$ corrections to those form factors are obtained. A comparison of the results for the ratio of form factors at zero recoil limit and other values of $q^{2}$ with the predictions of the subleading Isgur-Wise form factor application for $B\to D^{\ast}\ellν$ is presented. The total decay width and branching ratio for these decays are also evaluated us…
In the light of the recently observed XENON1T electronic recoil (ER) data, we investigate the possibility of constraining the parameter space of a generic fermionic warm dark matter (WDM), decaying into a standard model (SM) neutrino and a photon. The photon as a decay product, when produced inside the XENON1T chamber, interacts with an electron of a xenon (Xe) atom, leading to a contribution in the observed ER data. We add this dark matter (DM) induced signal over the standard background ($\rm B_0$) considered by the XENON1T collaboration and perform a $χ^2$ fit against the XENON1T data to ob…
The rare decay $B\to K^\ast( \to Kπ) ν\barν$ is expected to play an important role in searches for physics beyond the Standard Model at the near future $B$-physics experiments. We investigate resonant and non-resonant backgrounds that arise beyond the narrow-width approximation for the $K^\ast$. Non-resonant $B\to Kπν\barν$ decays are analyzed in the region of low hadronic recoil, where $B \to K π$ form factors from Heavy-Hadron-Chiral-Perturbation Theory are available. In a Breit-Wigner-type model interference-induced effects in the $K^*$ signal region are found to be sizable, as large as $20…
We present a systematic analysis of the angular distribution of Bbar -> Kbar^\ast (-> Kbar pi) l^+ l^- decays with l = e, mu in the low recoil region (i.e. at high dilepton invariant masses of the order of the mass of the b-quark) to account model-independently for CP violation beyond the Standard Model, working to next-to-leading order QCD. From the employed heavy quark effective theory framework we identify the key CP observables with reduced hadronic uncertainties. Since some of the CP asymmetries are CP-odd they can be measured without B-flavour tagging. This is particularly beneficial for…
We show that existing low energy experiments, searching for the breaking of local Lorentz invariance, set bounds upon string theory inspired quantum gravity models that induce corrections to the propagation of fields. In the D-particle recoil model we find M > 1.2 x 10^5 M_P and v < 2 x 10^{-27}c for the mass and recoil speed of the D-particle, respectively. These bounds are \~10^8 times stronger than the latest astrophysical bounds. These results indicate that the stringy scenario for modified dispersion relations is as vulnerable to these types of tests as the loop quantum gravity schemes.
We present recent progress in calculating the semileptonic form factors $h_{A_1}(w)$ for the $\bar{B} \to D^{\ast} \ell \barν$ decays. We use the Oktay-Kronfeld (OK) action for the charm and bottom valence quarks and the HISQ action for light quarks. We adopt the Newton method combined with the scanning method to find a good initial guess for the $χ^2$ minimizer in the fitting of the 2pt correlation functions. The main advantage is that the Newton method lets us to consume all the time slices allowed by the physical positivity. We report the first, reliable, but preliminary results for $h_{A_1…
In light of prospects for measurements of $B_c \rightarrow D^{(\ast)} l ν$ decays in the upcoming Upgrade II of the LHC, we show that by using calculated $B_c \rightarrow D^{(\ast)}$ form factors competitive extraction of the $|V_{ub}|$ CKM matrix element from the $B_c \to D μ\barν_μ$ decay might be possible. To minimize experimental and theoretical uncertainties we provide the ratio $|V_{ub}|/|V_{cb}|$ by normalizing the $B_c \rightarrow D^{(\ast)} μ\barν_μ$ to $B_c \to J/ψμ\barν_μ$ decay. We also briefly examine the suggestion to extract $|V_{ub}|/|V_{cs}|$ from the theoretically interesting…
We compute perturbative QCD corrections to $B \to D$ form factors at leading power in $Λ/m_b$, at large hadronic recoil, from the light-cone sum rules (LCSR) with $B$-meson distribution amplitudes in HQET. QCD factorization for the vacuum-to-$B$-meson correlation function with an interpolating current for the $D$-meson is demonstrated explicitly at one loop with the power counting scheme $m_c \sim {\cal O} \left (\sqrt{Λ\, m_b} \right ) $. The jet functions encoding information of the hard-collinear dynamics in the above-mentioned correlation function are complicated by the appearance of an ad…
Recoil imaging entails the detection of spatially resolved ionization tracks generated by particle interactions. This is a highly sought-after capability in many classes of detector, with broad applications across particle and astroparticle physics. However, at low energies, where ionization signatures are small in size, recoil imaging only seems to be a practical goal for micro-pattern gas detectors. This white paper outlines the physics case for recoil imaging, and puts forward a decadal plan to advance towards the directional detection of low-energy recoils with sensitivity and resolution c…
