Continuity, compactness, the spectrum and ergodic properties of the differentiation operator are investigated, when it acts in the Fréchet space of all Dirichlet series that are uniformly convergent in all half-planes $\{s \in \mathbb{C} \ | \ {\rm Re} s > \varepsilon \}$ for each $\varepsilon>0$. The properties of the formal inverse of the differentiation are also investigated.
We investigate composition-differentiation operators acting on the Dirichlet space of the unit disk. Specifically, we determine characterizations for bounded, compact, and Hilbert-Schmidt composition-differentiation operators. In addition, for particular classes of inducing maps, we derive an adjoint formula, compute the norm, and identify the spectrum.
Hartman proved in 1939 that the width of the largest possible strip in the complex plane, on which a Dirichlet series $\sum_n a_n n^{-s}$ is uniformly a.s.-sign convergent (i.e., $\sum_n \varepsilon_n a_n n^{-s}$ converges uniformly for almost all sequences of signs $\varepsilon_n =\pm 1$) but does not convergent absolutely, equals $1/2$. We study this result from a more modern point of view within the framework of so called Hardy-type Dirichlet series with values in a Banach space.
We investigate composition-differentiation operators acting on the space $S^2$, the space of analytic functions on the open unit disk whose first derivative is in $H^2$. Specifically, we determine characterizations for bounded and compact composition-differentiation operators acting on $S^p$. In addition, for particular classes of inducing maps, we compute the norm, and identify the spectrum. Finally, for particular linear fractional inducing maps, we determine the adjoint of the composition-differentiation operator acting on weighted Bergman spaces which include $S^2, H^2$, and the Dirichlet …
In this paper, we study the composition operators on an algebra of Dirichlet series, the analogue of the Wiener algebra of absolutely convergent Taylor series, which we call the Wiener-Dirichlet algebra. We study the connection between the properties of the operator and of its symbol, with special emphasis on the compact, automorphic, or isometric character of this operator. We are led to the intermediate study of algebras of functions of several, or countably many, complex variables.
We study the composition operators on an algebra of Dirichlet series, the analogue of the Wiener algebra of absolutely convergent Taylor series, which we call the Wiener-Dirichlet algebra. The central issue is to understand the connection between the properties of the operator and of its symbol, with special emphasis on the compact, automorphic, or isometric character of this operator. We are led to the intermediate study of algebras of functions of several, or countably many, complex variables.
Given a frequency $λ$, we study general Dirichlet series $\sum a_n e^{-λ_n s}$. First, we give a new condition on $λ$ which ensures that a somewhere convergent Dirichlet series defining a bounded holomorphic function in the right half-plane converges uniformly in this half-plane, improving classical results of Bohr and Landau. Then, following recent works of Defant and Schoolmann, we investigate Hardy spaces of these Dirichlet series. We get general results on almost sure convergence which have an harmonic analysis flavour. Nevertheless, we also exhibit examples showing that it seems hard to g…
We study random unconditionality of Dirichlet series in vector-valued Hardy spaces $\mathcal H_p(X)$. It is shown that a Banach space $X$ has type 2 (respectively, cotype 2) if and only if for every choice $(x_n)_n\subset X$ it follows that $(x_n n^{-s})_n$ is Random unconditionally convergent (respectively, divergent) in $\mathcal H_2(X)$. The analogous question on $\mathcal H_p(X)$ spaces for $p\neq2$ is also explored. We also provide explicit examples exhibiting the differences between the unconditionality of $(x_n n^{-s})_n$ in $\mathcal H_p(X)$ and that of $(x_n z^n)_n$ in $H_p(X)$.
Let $\mathscr{H}^2$ denote the space of ordinary Dirichlet series with square summable coefficients, and let $\mathscr{H}^2_0$ denote its subspace consisting of series vanishing at $+\infty$. We investigate the weak product spaces $\mathscr{H}^2\odot\mathscr{H}^2$ and $\mathscr{H}^2_0\odot\mathscr{H}^2_0$, finding that several pertinent problems are more tractable for the latter space. This surprising phenomenon is related to the fact that $\mathscr{H}^2_0\odot\mathscr{H}^2_0$ does not contain the infinite-dimensional subspace of $\mathscr{H}^2$ of series which lift to linear functions on the …
We present quantitative versions of Bohr's theorem on general Dirichlet series $D=\sum a_{n} e^{-λ_{n}s}$ assuming different assumptions on the frequency $λ:=(λ_{n})$, including the conditions introduced by Bohr and Landau. Therefore using the summation method by typical (first) means invented by M. Riesz, without any condition on $λ$, we give upper bounds for the norm of the partial sum operator $S_{N}(D):=\sum_{n=1}^{N} a_{n}(D)e^{-λ_{n}s}$ of length $N$ on the space $\mathcal{D}_{\infty}^{ext}(λ)$ of all somewhere convergent $λ$-Dirichlet series allowing a holomorphic and bounded extension …
Basic aspects of differential geometry can be extended to various non-classical settings: Lipschitz manifolds, rectifiable sets, sub-Riemannian manifolds, Banach manifolds, Weiner space, etc. Although the constructions differ, in each of these cases one can define a module of measurable 1-forms and a first-order exterior derivative. We give a general construction which applies to any metric space equipped with a sigma-finite measure and produces the desired result in all of the above cases. It also applies to an important class of Dirichlet spaces, where, however, the known first-order differe…
We study the Hardy space of translated Dirichlet series $\mathcal{H}_{+}$. It consists on those Dirichlet series $\sum a_n n^{-s}$ such that for some (equivalently, every) $1 \leq p < \infty$, the translation $\sum{a_{n}}n^{-(s+\frac{1}σ)}$ belongs to the Hardy space $\mathcal{H}^{p}$ for every $σ>0$. We prove that this set, endowed with the topology induced by the seminorms $\left\{\Vert\cdot\Vert_{2,k}\right\}_{k\in\mathbb{N}}$ (where $\Vert\sum{a_{n}n^{-s}}\Vert_{2,k}$ is defined as $\big\Vert\sum{a_n n^{-(s+\frac{1}{k})}} \big\Vert_{\mathcal{H}^{2}}$), is a Fréchet space which is Schwartz …
We study divergence properties of Fourier series on Cantor-type fractal measures, also called mock Fourier series. We show that in some cases the $L^1$-norm of the corresponding Dirichlet kernel grows exponentially fast, and therefore the Fourier series are not even pointwise convergent. We apply these results to the Lebesgue measure to show that a certain rearrangement of the exponential functions, which we call scrambled Fourier series, have a corresponding Dirichlet kernel whose $L^1$-norm grows exponentially fast, which is much worse than the known logarithmic bound. The divergence propert…
For a scalar matrix $\mathbf a=(a_{m, n})_{m, n=1}^{\infty},$ the Dirichlet series kernel $κ_{\mathbf a}$ is the double Dirichlet series $κ_{\mathbf a}(s, u) = \sum_{m, n =1}^{\infty} a_{m, n}m^{-s} n^{-\bar{u}}$ in the variables $s$ and $\bar{u},$ which is regularly convergent on some right half-plane $\mathbb H_ρ.$ The analytic symbols $A_{n, \mathbf a} = \sum_{m=1}^{\infty}a_{m, n}m^{-s},$ $n \geq 1$ play a central role in the study of the reproducing kernel Hilbert space $\mathscr H_{\mathbf a}$ associated with the positive semi-definite kernel $κ_{\mathbf a}.$ In particular, they form a t…
Let $\mathcal{H}_\infty$ be the set of all ordinary Dirichlet series $D=\sum_n a_n n^{-s}$ representing bounded holomorphic functions on the right half plane. A multiplicative sequence $(b_n)$ of complex numbers is said to be an $\ell_1$-multiplier for $\mathcal{H}_\infty$ whenever $\sum_n |a_n b_n| < \infty$ for every $D \in \mathcal{H}_\infty$. We study the problem of describing such sequences $(b_n)$ in terms of the asymptotic decay of the subsequence $(b_{p_j})$, where $p_j$ denotes the $j$th prime number. Given a multiplicative sequence $b=(b_n)$ we prove (among other results): $b$ is an …
For a sequence $\mathbf w = \{w_j\}_{j = 2}^\infty$ of positive real numbers, consider the positive semi-definite kernel $κ_{\mathbf w}(s, u) = \sum_{j = 2}^\infty w_j j^{-s - \overline{u}}$ defined on some right-half plane $\mathbb H_ρ$ for a real number $ρ.$ Let $\mathscr H_{\mathbf w}$ denote the reproducing kernel Hilbert space associated with $κ_\mathbf w.$ Let \begin{equation*} δ_{\mathbf w} = \inf\Bigg\{\Re(s) : \sum\limits_{\substack{j \geqslant 2 \\ \tiny{\textbf{gpf}}(j) \leqslant p_n }} w_j j^{- s} < \infty ~\text{for all}~ n \in \mathbb Z_+\Bigg\}, \end{equation*} where $\{p_j\}_{j…
