In this letter we derive the Cornell confining potential in a theory of interacting Abelian gauge vector and massive Kalb-Ramond tensor. The Kalb-Ramond mass is instrumental to obtain the linear confining behavior of the potential at large distances. The same model can be described via interaction with Higgs fields, alternatively, providing mass to the vector, or to the tensor fields. In the first case, the photon acquires mass, while the tensor remains massless. The resulting interaction potential is a screened Coulomb one. In the second case, the photon remains massless while Kalb-Ramond tensor acquires mass and the resulting potential is of the Cornell type with the mass parameter determining the slope of the linear part.
We show that when the antisymmetric Kalb-Ramond field is included in the Randall-Sundrum scenario, although the hierarchy problem can be solved, it requires an extreme fine tuning of the Kalb-Ramond field (about 1 part in $10^{62}$). We interpret this as the return of the problem in disguise. Further, we show that the Kalb-Ramond field induces a small negative cosmological constant on the visible brane.
We study the direct interaction of an antisymmetric Kalb-Ramond field with a scalar particle derived from a gauge principle. The method outlined in this paper to define a covariant derivative is applied to a simple model leading to a linear coupling between the fields. Although no conserved Noether charge exists, a conserved topological current comes out from the antisymmetry properties of the Kalb-Ramond field. Some interesting features of this current are pointed out.
Static spherically symmetric Kalb-Ramond (KR) traversable wormholes in torsioned spacetime are shown not to exist globally since torsion vanishes not only at the wormhole throat but in all spacetime points which means that all components of the KR field vanish identically. With this result Hochberg-Visser result on the non-violation of the weak energy (WEC) condition in the presence of four-dimensional Einstein-Cartan-Kalb-Ramond (ECKR) geometry with totally skew-symmetric Cartan torsion seems to be a trivial one.
We compute the energy spectra for massless Kalb-Ramond axions in four-dimensional anisotropic string cosmological models. We show that, when integrated over directions, the four-dimensional anisotropic model leads to infra-red divergent spectra similar to the one found in the isotropic case.
We study the CPT-even dimension-six Chern-Simons-like term by including dynamical Kalb-Ramond and scalar fields to examine the cosmological birefringence. We show that the combined effect of neutrino current and Kalb-Ramond field could induce a sizable rotation polarization angle in the cosmic microwave background radiation polarization.
The generation of a matter-antimatter asymmetry in the Universe may be induced by the propagation of fermions in non-trivial, spherically asymmetric (and hence Lorentz violating) gravitational backgrounds. Such backgrounds may characterise the epoch of the early universe. The key point in these models is that the background induces different dispersion relations, hence populations, between fermions and antifermions, and thus CPT Violation (CPTV) appears in thermal equilibrium. Species populations may freeze out leading to leptogenesis and baryogenesis. We consider here a string-inspired scenar…
We study the matter-coupled equations of motion for cosmological NS massless fields including all $α'$ corrections in an O$(d,d)$ duality invariant approach, with emphasis on the Kalb-Ramond two-form field $B_{(2)}$ and its source. Solutions for the vacuum and matter case are found and the corresponding Einstein frame cosmologies are discussed. We also show that the ansatz for $B_{(2)}$ required by the duality invariant framework implies that the two-form is non-isotropic.
Possible classical solutions for electromagnetic monopoles induced by gravitational (global) monopoles in the presence of torsion are found. Such solutions rely on a non-zero (Kalb-Ramond) torsion strength, which may characterise low energy theories inspired from string models. Bounds from the current run of the LHC experiments are used to constrain the parameters of the model, but because the production mechanism depends on the details of the model and its ultraviolet completion, such bounds are presently only indicative.
It is shown that the gravitational redshift as predicted by Einstein's theory, is modified in presence of second rank antisymmetric tensor (Kalb-Ramond) field in a string inspired background spacetime. In presence of extra dimensions, the Randall-Sundrum brane world scenario is found to play a crucial role in suppressing this additional shift. The bound on the value of the warp factor is determined from the redshift data and is found to be in good agreement with that determined from the requirements of Standard model.
We investigate the generation of large-scale magnetic fields due to the breaking of the conformal invariance in the electromagnetic field through the $CPT$-even dimension-six Chern-Simons-like effective interaction with a fermion current by taking account of the dynamical Kalb-Ramond and scalar fields in inflationary cosmology. It is explicitly demonstrated that the magnetic fields on 1Mpc scale with the field strength of $\sim 10^{-9}$G at the present time can be induced.
The effect of torsion in theories of quantum gravity is known to be well described by an axion-like field which couples to matter as well as to gravitation and radiation gauge fields. In this note we consider a particular kind of torsion, arising from the Kalb-Ramond antisymmetric tensor field that appears in the gravitational multiplet of string theory. We investigate the implications for leptogenesis. It is shown that leptogenesis can occur even at tree-level and with only one generation of right-handed Majorana neutrinos, due to CP and CPT violation introduced by the background geometry.
The Kalb-Ramond (KR) antisymmetric tensor field arises naturally in the gravitational multiplet of string theory. Nevertheless, the respective low-energy field theory action, in which, for reasons of gauge invariance, the only dependence on the KR field is through its field strength, constitutes an interesting model \emph{per se}. In this context, the KR field strength also acts as a totally antisymmetric torsion field, while in four space-time dimensions is \emph{dual} to an (KR) axion-like pseudoscalar field. In this context, we review here first the rôle of quantum fluctuations of the KR ax…
We discuss the conditions under which pre-big bang models can fit the observed large-scale anisotropy with a primordial spectrum of massive (Kalb--Ramond) axion fluctuations. The primordial spectrum must be sufficiently flat at low frequency and sufficiently steeper at high frequency. For a steep and/or long enough high-frequency branch of the spectrum the bounds imposed by COBE's normalization allow axion masses of the typical order for a Peccei--Quinn--Weinberg--Wilczek axion. We provide a particular example in which an appropriate axion spectrum is obtained from a class of backgrounds satis…
We point out that the Kalb-Ramond field can couple to the Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz fields of superstring theory in a way that can generate a coupling of the Kalb-Ramond field to dark matter dipole moments. Electroweak dipole dark matter could then arise from the Ramond sector of superstrings with a low string scale up to 120 TeV.
We re-examine the fine tuning problem of the Higgs mass, when an antisymmetric two form Kalb-Ramond (KR) field is present in the bulk of a Randall-Sundrum (RS) braneworld. Taking into account the back-reaction of the KR field, we obtain the exact correction to the RS metric. The modified metric also warps the Higgs mass from Planck scale (in higher dimension) to TeV scale (on the visible brane) for a range of values of $kr$ exceeding the original RS value (where $k=$ Planck mass and $r=$ size of extra dimension). However, it requires an extraordinary suppression of the KR field density, indica…
We investigate the Kalb-Ramond antisymmetric tensor field as solution to the muon $g-2$ problem. In particular we calculate the lowest-order Kalb-Ramond contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment and find that we can fit the new experimental value for the anomaly by adjusting the coupling without affecting the electron anomalous magnetic moment results.
We study the role of the Gauss-Bonnet corrections to the gravity action on the charged AdS black hole in presence of rank 3 antisymmetric Kalb Ramond tensor field strength. Analyzing the branch singularity and the killing horizon, we explicitly derive various thermodynamic parameters and study their behaviour in presence of five dimensional Gauss-Bonnet coupling in AdS space-time. The possibility of a second order phase transition is explored in the light of AdS/CMT correspondence and various critical exponents associated with the discontinuities of the various thermodynamic parameters are det…
