For hyperbolic flows $φ_t$ we examine the Gibbs measure of points $w$ for which $$\int_0^T G(φ_t w) dt - a T \in (- e^{-εn}, e^{- εn})$$ as $n \to \infty$ and $T \geq n$, provided $ε> 0$ is sufficiently small. This is similar to local central limit theorems. The fact that the interval $(- e^{-εn}, e^{- εn})$ is exponentially shrinking as $n \to \infty$ leads to several difficulties. Under some geometric assumptions we establish a sharp large deviation result with leading term $C(a) ε_n e^{γ(a) T}$ and rate function $γ(a) \leq 0.$ The proof is based on the spectral estimates for the iterations of the Ruelle operators with two complex parameters and on a new Tauberian theorem for sequence of functions $g_n(t)$ having an asymptotic as $ n \to \infty$ and $t \geq n.$
We show some level-2 large deviation principles for rational maps satisfying a strong form of non-uniform hyperbolicity, called "Topological Collet-Eckmann". More precisely, we prove a large deviation principle for the distribution of iterated preimages, periodic points, and Birkhoff averages. For this purpose we show that each H{ö}lder continuous potential admits a unique equilibrium state, and that the pressure function can be characterized in terms of iterated preimages, periodic points, and Birkhoff averages. Then we use a variant of a general result of Kifer.
This article is devoted to level-1 large deviation properties in some nonuniformly hyperbolic systems via Pesin theory. In particular, our result can be applied to the nonuniformly hyperbolic diffeomorphisms described by Katok and several other classes of diffeomorphisms derived from Anosov systems.
In this article we introduce a gluing orbit property, weaker than specification, for both maps and flows. We prove that flows with the $C^1$-robust gluing orbit property are uniformly hyperbolic and that every uniformly hyperbolic flow satisfies the gluing orbit property. We also prove a level-1 large deviations principle and a level-2 large deviations lower bound for for semiflows with the gluing orbit property. As a consequence we establish a level-1 large deviations principle for hyperbolic flows and every continuous observable, and also a level-2 large deviations lower bound. Finally, sinc…
Let $Γ$ be a countable group acting on a geodesic Gromov-hyperbolic metric space $X$ and $μ$ a probability measure on $Γ$ whose support generates a non-elementary subsemigroup. Under the assumption that $μ$ has a finite exponential moment, we establish large deviations results for the distance and the translation length of a random walk with driving measure $μ$. From our results, we deduce a special case of a conjecture regarding large deviations of spectral radii of random matrix products.
Gouezel and Sarig introduced operator renewal theory as a method to prove sharp results on polynomial decay of correlations for certain classes of nonuniformly expanding maps. In this paper, we apply the method to planar dispersing billiards and multidimensional nonMarkovian intermittent maps.
We prove a sharp large deviation principle concerning intervals shrinking with sub-exponential speed for certain models involving the Poincaré map related to a Markov family for an Axiom A flow restricted to a basic set $Λ$ satisfying some additional regularity assumptions.
We give a criterion to determine the large deviation rate functions for abstract dynamical systems on towers. As an application of this criterion we show the level 2 large deviation principle for some class of smooth interval maps with nonuniform hyperbolicity.
The purpose of this paper is twofold. In one direction, we extend the spectral method for random piecewise expanding and hyperbolic dynamics developed by the first author \textit{et al}. to establish quenched versions of the large deviation principle, central limit theorem and the local central limit theorem for \emph{vector-valued} observables. We stress that the previous works considered exclusively the case of scalar-valued observables. In another direction, we show that this method can be used to establish a variety of new limit laws (either for scalar or vector-valued observables) that ha…
$C^1$ linearization is of special significance because it preserves smooth dynamical behaviors and distinguishes qualitative properties in characteristic directions. However, $C^1$ smoothness is not enough to guarantee $C^1$ linearization. For $C^{1,1}$ hyperbolic diffeomorphisms on Banach spaces $C^1$ linearization was proved under a gap condition together with a band condition of the spectrum. In this paper, the result of $C^1$ linearization in Banach spaces is strengthened to $C^{1,β}$ linearization with a constant $β>0$ under a weaker band condition by a decomposition with invariant foliat…
The goal of this notice is to establish Not-commutative Point- wise Ergodic Theorems for actions of the Hyperbolic Groups. Similar non-commutative results were done by Bufetov, Khristoforov and Kli- menko, and later by Pollicott and Sharp. We were interested to expand short notice in Policott and Sharp's paper about non-commutative er- godic theorems.
We obtain spectral estimates for the iterations of Ruelle operator $L_{f + (a + ıb)τ+ (c + ıd) g}$ with two complex parameters and Hölder functions $f,\: g$ generalizing the case $\Pr(f) =0$ studied in [PeS2]. As an application we prove a sharp large deviation theorem concerning exponentially shrinking intervals which improves the result in [PeS1].
We obtain a exponential large deviation upper bound for continuous observables on suspension semiflows over a non-uniformly expanding base transformation with non-flat singularities and/or discontinuities, where the roof function defining the suspension behaves like the logarithm of the distance to the singular/discontinuous set of the base map. To obtain this upper bound, we show that the base transformation exhibits exponential slow recurrence to the singular set. The results are applied to semiflows modeling singular-hyperbolic attracting sets of $C^2$ vector fields. As corollary of the met…
Given a hyperbolic homeomorphism on a compact metric space, consider the space of linear cocycles over this base dynamics which are Hölder continuous and whose projective actions are partially hyperbolic dynamical systems. We prove that locally near any typical cocycle, the Lyapunov exponents are Hölder continuous functions relative to the uniform topology. This result is obtained as a consequence of a uniform large deviations type estimate in the space of cocycles. As a byproduct of our approach, we also establish other statistical properties for the iterates of such cocycles, namely a centra…
We extend the recent spectral approach for quenched limit theorems developed for piecewise expanding dynamics under general random driving [DrFrGTVa18] to quenched random piecewise hyperbolic dynamics including some classes of billiards. For general ergodic sequences of maps in a neighbourhood of a hyperbolic map we prove a quenched large deviations principle (LDP), central limit theorem (CLT), and local central limit theorem (LCLT).
Given a Gromov-hyperbolic group $G$ endowed with a finite symmetric generating set, we study the statistics of counting measures on the spheres of the associated Cayley graph under linear representations of $G$. More generally, we obtain a weak law of large numbers for subadditive functions, echoing the classical Fekete lemma. For strongly irreducible and proximal representations, we prove a counting central limit theorem with a Berry--Esseen type error rate and exponential large deviation estimates. Moreover, in the same setting, we show convergence of interpolated normalized matrix norms alo…
We establish some statistical properties of the hyperbolic times for a class of nonuniformly expanding dynamical systems. The maps arise as factors of area preserving maps of the unit square via a geometric Baker's map type construction, exhibit intermittent dynamics, and have unbounded derivatives. The geometric approach captures various examples from the literature over the last thirty years. The statistics of these maps are controlled by the order of tangency that a certain "cut function" makes with the boundary of the square. Using a large deviations result of Melbourne and Nicol we obtain…
In this article we prove estimates for the topological pressure of the set of points whose Birkhoff time averages are far from the space averages corresponding to the unique equilibrium state that has a weak Gibbs property. In particular, if $f$ has an expanding repeller and $ϕ$ is an Hölder continuous potential we prove that the topological pressure of the set of points whose accumulation values of Birkhoff averages belong to some interval $I\subset \mathbb R$ can be expressed in terms of the topological pressure of the whole system and the large deviations rate function. As a byproduct we de…
We prove several limit theorems for a simple class of partially hyperbolic fast-slow systems. We start with some well know results on averaging, then we give a substantial refinement of known large (and moderate) deviation results and conclude with a completely new result (a local limit theorem) on the distribution of the process determined by the fluctuations around the average. The method of proof is based on a mixture of standard pairs and Transfer Operators that we expect to be applicable in a much wider generality.
