Recently the first real image of the supermassive black hole at the heart of the galaxy M87 successfully has been captured. To explain the behavior of both the observed powerful jets and the electromagnetic accretion disk the Blandford Znajek mechanism, by the Event Horizon Telescope collaboration, has been considered. To justify these phenomena we are seeking an exact solution for a perturbed Rissner-Nordstrom black hole surrounded by a force-free field electrodynamics accretion disk. Although a charged black hole is a toy model, by tending the charge to zero one can obtain the results for a perturbed, rotating, Schwarzschild one immediately. Finding an exact solution in regards to the force-free field electrodynamics as a source for perturbations in different classes of the black holes is may one of the open problems yet. Here to find the solution, different Maxwell's scalars besides the energy-momentum tensor in both tangent and bend backgrounds are calculated. In doing so, the well known Newman-Penrose formalism is considered.
One of the notable modifications of General Relativity (GR) is the Rastall gravity. We have studied the polarization modes of Gravitational Waves (GWs) in this gravity. It is found that at a very far distance away from the source of GWs, Rastall gravity behaves identically to GR. That is, we get only two massless tensor polarization modes of GWs in the theory. Afterwards, we have extended our study to quasinormal modes of black holes in Rastall gravity in presence of non-linear electrodynamic sources. Here the impacts of cosmological field, dust field, phantom field, quintessence field and rad…
Force-Free Electrodynamics for black holes in Anti de Sitter is considered. We present new, energy extracting solutions of Force-Free Electrodynamics in Anti de Sitter - Near Horizon Extremal Kerr and Super-Entropic Near Horizon Extremal Kerr geometries. The relevant equations of motion are derived from an action for force-free plasma surrounding spinning black holes with generic asymptotics. We consider the energy flux of electrodynamic fields in rotating frames to argue that the correct measure for energy extraction is the energy flux measured by a rotating observer in the near horizon regio…
Despite their potential importance for understanding astrophysical jets, physically realistic exact solutions for magnetospheres around Kerr black holes have not been found, even in the force-free approximation. Instead approximate analytical solutions such as the Blandford-Znajek (split-)monopole, as well as numerical solutions, have been constructed. In this paper we consider a new approach to the analysis and construction of such magnetospheres. We consider force-free electrodynamics close to the rotation axis of a magnetosphere surrounding a Kerr black hole assuming axisymmetry. This is th…
We analyze the general relativistic oscillations of thin accretion disks around compact astrophysical objects interacting with the surrounding medium through non-gravitational forces. The interaction with the external medium (a thermal bath) is modeled via a friction force, and a random force, respectively. The general equations describing the stochastically perturbed disks are derived by considering the perturbations of trajectories of the test particles in equatorial orbits, assumed to move along the geodesic lines. By taking into account the presence of a viscous dissipation and of a stocha…
We present work in progress to craft open-sourced numerical tools that will enable the calculation of electromagnetic counterparts to gravitational waveforms: the {\tt GiRaFFE} (General Relativistic Force-Free Electrodynamics) code. {\tt GiRaFFE} numerically solves the general relativistic magnetohydrodynamics system of equations in the force-free limit, to model the magnetospheres surrounding compact binaries, in order (1) to characterize the nonlinear interaction between the source and its surrounding magnetosphere, and (2) to evaluate the electromagnetic counterparts of gravitational waves,…
We take a quick look at the different possible universally coupled scalar fields in nature. Then, we discuss how the gauging of the group of scale transformations (dilations), together with the Poincare group, leads to a Weyl-Cartan spacetime structure. There the dilaton field finds a natural surrounding. Moreover, we describe shortly the phenomenology of the hypothetical axion field. --- In the second part of our essay, we consider a spacetime, the structure of which is exclusively specified by the premetric Maxwell equations and a fourth rank electromagnetic response tensor density $χ^{ijkl}…
One class of competitive candidates for dark matter is ultralight bosons. If they exist, these bosons may form long-lived bosonic clouds surrounding rotating black holes via superradiant instabilities, acting as sources of gravity and affecting the propagation of gravitational waves around the host black hole. During extreme-mass-ratio inspirals, the bosonic clouds will survive the inspiral phase and can affect the quasinormal-mode frequencies of the perturbed black-hole-bosonic-cloud system. In this work, we compute the shifts of gravitational quasinormal-mode frequencies of a rotating black …
Black holes are the simplest macroscopic objects, and provide unique tests of General Relativity. They have been compared to the Hydrogen atom in quantum mechanics. Here, we establish a few facts about the simplest systems bound by gravity: black hole binaries. We provide strong evidence for the existence of `global' photosurfaces surrounding the binary, and of binary quasinormal modes leading to exponential decay of massless fields when the binary spacetime is slightly perturbed. These two properties go hand in hand, as they did for isolated black holes. The binary quasinormal modes have high…
We investigate the general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic (GRMHD) equations for cold plasma around the Reissner-Nordström black hole. Applying 3+1 spacetime split we linearize the perturbed equations for non-magnetized/magnetized plasma in both rotating and non-rotating background. By Fourier analyze we then derive dispersion relations and investigate the existence of waves with positive angular frequency in the vicinity of the black hole horizon. The analysis finds propagation of negative phase and group velocities for rotating magnetized surroundings.
The generalized vortical formalism provides an electrodynamic description for superconducting states---in the generalized vortical formalism, a superconducting state may be defined by the vanishing of an appropriate generalized vorticity and characterized by zero generalized helicity for incompressible fluids. In this article, we investigate these states for compressible plasmas in black hole spacetime geometries using the curved spacetime generalization of the grand generalized vortical formalism. If the magnetic field is axisymmetric and the thermodynamic properties are symmetric about the e…
Black holes can be inserted in very rich astrophysical environments, such as accretion disks. Although isolated black holes are simple objects in general relativity, their accretion disks may significantly enrich the field configurations of their surroundings. Alternative theories of gravity can lead to novel black hole solutions, which can be represented by small deviations in the metric due to an effective stress-energy tensor. Among the key aspects of the interaction of black holes with their surroundings, stand tidal forces phenomena. We study the tidal forces of spherically symmetric blac…
We obtain the black hole solution for the Ayón - Beato - García (ABG) type black hole surrounded by a cloud of strings in Rastall gravity and calculate the scalar quasinormal modes of it for a massless scalar field. To have a better visualization of the results, we also introduce a new non-linear electrodynamic source and obtain a black hole solution surrounded by a cloud of strings in the Rastall gravity. We see that the quasinormal modes are affected by the type of non-linear electrodynamic sources in case of higher magnitudes of charge $q$. With increase in the magnitude of charge $q$, grav…
The ringdown of a perturbed black hole contains fundamental information about space-time in the form of Quasi Normal Modes (QNM). Modifications to general relativity, or extended profiles of other fields surrounding the black hole, so called "black hole hair", can perturb the QNM frequencies. Previous works have examined the QNM frequencies of spherically symmetric "dirty" black holes - that is black holes surrounded by arbitrary matter fields. Such analyses were restricted to static systems, making the assumption that the metric perturbation was independent of time. However, in most physical …
Black holes with hair represented by generic fields surrounding the central source of the vacuum Schwarzschild metric are examined under the minimal set of requirements consisting of i) the existence of a well defined event horizon and ii) the strong or dominant energy condition for the hair outside the horizon. We develop our analysis by means of the gravitational decoupling approach. We find that trivial deformations of the seed Schwarzschild vacuum preserve the energy conditions and provide a new mechanism to evade the no-hair theorem based on a primary hair associated with the charge gener…
Black hole quasinormal frequencies are complex numbers that encode information on how a black hole relaxes after it has been perturbed and depend on the features of the geometry and on the type of perturbations. On the one hand, the examples studied so far in the literature focused on the case of black hole geometries with singularities in their interior. On the other hand, it is expected that quantum or classical modifications of general relativity may correct the pathological singular behavior of classical black hole solutions. Despite the fact that we do not have at hand a complete theory o…
Our aim in this work is to outline some physical consequences of the interaction between black holes and scalar field halos in terms of gravitational waves. In doing so, the black hole is taken as a static and spherically symmetric gravitational source, {\it i. e.} the Schwarzschild black hole, and we work within the test field approximation, considering that the scalar field lives in the curved space-time outside the black hole. We focused on the emission of gravitational waves when the black hole is perturbed by the surrounding scalar field matter. The symmetries of the spacetime and the sim…
This work studies jet-like electromagnetic configurations surrounding a slowly-spinning black-hole immersed in a uniformly magnetized force-free plasma. In the first part of this work, we present a family of stationary solutions that are jet-capable. While these solutions all satisfy the force-free equations and the appropriate boundary conditions, our numerical experiments show a unique relaxed state starting from different initial data, and so one member of the family is likely preferred over the others. In the second part of this work, we analyze the perturbations of this family of jet-like…
Classical black holes are known for almost half a century to nullify exterior classical massive vector field associated with a charge crossing the event horizon. This implies that, from the point of view of an external observer, the Proca field of the charge is screened with the strength gradually increasing as the charge adiabatically approaches the event horizon. In this paper we reject the adiabaticity constraint and calculate analytically the field evolution with respect to a distant observer in the frame of the simplest model of a contracting charged spherical shell concentrically surroun…
