We consider Einstein gravity on a patch of AdS$_3$ spacetime between two radii $r_1, r_2$. We compute surface charges and their algebra at an arbitrary radius $r$ such that it reduces to a given set of surface charges at $r_1, r_2$. The $r$-dependent charges become integrable upon addition of an appropriate boundary $Y$-term. We observe that soft excitations at each boundary are independent of those at the other boundary. We explicitly construct solution geometries which interpolate between these radii with specified surface charges. The interpolation is smooth provided that the mass and angular momentum measured at the two boundaries are equal.
In this note, we consider the equations of motion for charged branes in AdS space and show that they can be cast into one-dimensional coupled Toda type. Then we solve the equations of motion to construct static charged AdS brane solutions which are invariant under translation along $p$ directions and have toroidal symmetry. The solutions are described by mass, charges and a dilaton coupling constant.
We apply the recent derivations of dual charges in asymptotically flat spacetimes to asymptotically locally AdS spacetimes. In contrast to the results in the flat case, in the AdS case with a Dirichlet boundary the dual charge contribution vanishes at the leading order. However, by focusing on the Taub-NUT-AdS solution, we show that nevertheless, more generally, the dual charge is non-vanishing and corresponds to the NUT parameter. We propose a complex first law of black mechanics in the presence of NUT charges that is inspired by the naturally complex nature of the charges derived using Hamil…
We compute the energy and angular momenta of recent D-dimensional Kerr-AdS solutions to cosmological Einstein gravity, as well as of the BTZ metric, using our invariant charge definitions.
When two-dimensional Anti-de Sitter space (AdS_2) is endowed with a non-constant dilaton the origin of the central charge in the Virasoro algebra generating the asymptotic symmetries of AdS_2 can be traced back to the breaking of the SL(2,R) isometry group of AdS_2. We use this fact to clarify some controversial results appeared in the literature about the value of the central charge in these models.
In this work we study the phase transitions between the planar charged AdS black hole and the planar charged soliton. The planar soliton is obtained as a double analytic continuation of the charged black hole metric, which also involves analytically continuing the electric charge. We show that there are phase transitions between both solutions depending on the electric potential, magnetic flux and temperature. The analysis is carried out in the Grand-Canonical ensemble.
We generalize the vacuum static black brane solutions of Einstein's equations with negative cosmological constant recently discussed in literature, by introducing rotations and an electromagnetic field. We investigate numerically the thermodynamical properties of the charged and of the rotating $AdS$ black brane and we provide evidences for the existence of the charged and rotating case. In particular, we study the influence of the rotation and charge on the tension and mass. We find that the rotation essentially influences the tensions while the charge essentially influences the mass.
In this paper we have added Maxwell, Maxwell-Chern-Simons and gravitational Chern-Simons terms to Born-Infeld extended new massive gravity and we have found different types of (non)extremal charged black holes. For each black hole we find mass, angular momentum, entropy and temperature. Since our solutions are asymptotically AdS or warped-AdS, we infer central charges of dual CFTs by using Cardy's formula. Computing conserved charges associated to asymptotic symmetry transformations confirms calculation of central charges. For CFTs dual to asymptotically AdS solutions we find left central char…
We analyze the extended phase space thermodynamics of Kiselev black hole introducing a central charge and allowing the gravitational constant to vary. We also discuss the relation between the chemical potential and the size of the black hole, besides the new description of phase transitions. We obtain as a conclusion that the universality of the central charge does not remain valid in general.
Using the AdS/CFT, we establish a correspondence between the intricate thermal phases of R-charged AdS_{5} blackholes and the R-charge sector of the N=4 gauge theory, in the large N limit. Integrating out all fields in the gauge theory except the thermal Polyakov line, leads to an effective unitary matrix model. In the canonical ensemble, a logarithmic term is generated in the non-zero charge sector of the matrix model. This term is important to discuss various supergravity properties like i) the non-existence of thermal AdS as a solution, ii) the existence of a point of cusp catastrophe in th…
We investigate the holographic entanglement entropy in the Rindler-AdS space-time to obtain an exact solution for the corresponding minimal surface. Moreover, the holographic entanglement entropy of the charged single accelerated AdS Black holes in four dimensions is investigated. We obtain the volume of the codimension one-time slice in the bulk geometry enclosed by the minimal surface for both the RindlerAdS space-time and the charged accelerated AdS Black holes in the bulk. It is shown that the holographic entanglement entropy and the volume enclosed by the minimal hyper-surface in both the…
Mass and other conserved Noether charges are discussed for solutions of gravity theories with locally Anti-de Sitter asymptotics in 2n dimensions. The action is supplemented with a boundary term whose purpose is to guarantee that it reaches an extremum on the classical solutions, provided the spacetime is locally AdS at the boundary. It is also shown that if spacetime is locally AdS at spatial infinity, the conserved charges are finite and properly normalized without requiring subtraction of a reference background. In this approach, Noether charges associated to Lorentz and diffeomorphism inva…
Topological classes of thermodynamics of the static multi-charge AdS black holes in gauged supergravities: novel temperature-dependent thermodynamic topological phase transition
We study the phenomena of superradiance for $F(R)$-Maxwell black holes in an AdS space-time. The AdS boundary plays the role of a mirror and provides a natural confining system that makes the superradiant waves bouncing back and forth between the region near the horizon and the reflective boundary, causing a possible superradiant instability. We obtain numerical solutions for static hairy black holes in this scenario and investigate their instability and explicitly address the stability of such solutions for spherical perturbations under specific conditions for the scalar charge and AdS radius…
We construct supersymmetric, asymptotically AdS$_5$ gravitational soliton solutions of five-dimensional gauged supergravity coupled to arbitrarily many vector multiplets. These generalize the supersymmetric solitons of $U(1)^3$ gauged supergravity previously constructed by Chong, Cvetic, Lu, and Pope. We show that the solitons contain evanescent ergosurfaces and give an argument that these solitons should be nonlinearly unstable.
Using Killing-Yano symmetries, we construct conserved charges of spacetimes that asymptotically approach to the flat or Anti-de Sitter spaces only in certain directions. In D dimensions, this allows one to define gravitational charges (such as mass and angular momenta densities) of p-dimensional branes/solitons or any other extended objects that curve the transverse space into an asymptotically flat or AdS one. Our construction answers the question of what kind of charges the antisymmetric Killing-Yano tensors lead to.
We obtain the charged rotating black hole in conformal gravity. The metric is asymptotic to the (anti-)de Sitter spacetime. The contribution to the metric from the charges has a slower falloff than that in the Kerr-Newman AdS black hole. We analyse the global structure and obtain all the thermodynamical quantities including the mass, angular momentum, electric/magnetic charges and their thermodynamical conjugates. We verify that the first law of thermodynamics holds. We also obtain the new neutral rotating black holes that are beyond Einstein metrics. In contrast to the static ones, these rota…
The scaling dimensions of charged operators in conformal field theory were recently computed in a large charge expansion. We verify this expansion in a dual AdS model. Specifically, we numerically construct solitonic boson star solutions of Einstein-Maxwell-Scalar theory in AdS$_4$ and find that its mass at large charge reproduces the universal form of the lowest operator dimension in the large U(1) charge sector of the dual 2+1 dimensional CFT.
We show the existence of an infinite set of non-local classically conserved charges on the Green-Schwarz closed superstring in a pp-wave background. We find that these charges agree with the Penrose limit of non-local classically conserved charges recently found for the $AdS_5 \times S^5$ Green-Schwarz superstring. The charges constructed in this paper could help to understand the role played by these on the full $AdS_5 \times S^5$ background.
Surface charges of a $p$-form theory on the boundary of an AdS$_{d+1}$ spacetime are computed. Counter-terms on the boundary produce divergent corner-terms which holographically renormalize the symplectic form. Different choices of boundary conditions lead to various expressions for the charges and the associated fluxes. With the usual standard AdS boundary conditions, there are conserved zero-mode charges. Moreover, we explore two leaky boundary conditions which admit an infinite number of charges forming an Abelian algebra and non-vanishing flux. Finally, we discuss magnetic $p$-form charges…
We consider general black holes in D=5, N=2 supergravity coupled to vector multiplets, and discuss the issue of microstate counting from various viewpoints. The statistical entropy is computed for the near-extremal case using the central charge of the $AdS_2$ factor appearing in the near-horizon geometry. Furthermore, we explicitly construct the duality transformation connecting electrically charged black holes to magnetically charged black strings, under which the $AdS_2 \times S^3$ near horizon geometry becomes $AdS_3 \times S^2$. For $AdS_3$ the counting of microstates correctly reproduces …
We study 2D Maxwell-dilaton gravity on AdS(2). We distinguish two distinctive cases depending on whether the AdS(2) solution can be lifted to an AdS(3) geometry. In both cases, in order to get a consistent boundary condition we need to work with a twisted energy momentum tensor which has non-zero central charge. With this central charge and the explicit form of the twisted Virasoro generators we compute the entropy of the system using the Cardy formula. The entropy is found to be the same as that obtained from gravity calculations for a specific value of the level of the U(1) current. The agre…
We study the thermodynamics of the Taub-NUT AdS black holes by Visser holographic method using AdS radius as a constant parameter under the restricted phase space approach. Instead of the variables $P$ and $V$, we deal with the central charge and also chemical potential as a unique couple of conjugate thermodynamic variables. We study some interesting properties of the Taub-NUT black holes e.g. supercritical phase equilibrium in the $T-S$ processes, $Q-Φ$ and the Hawking-Page phase transition in the $μ-C$ processes. As a consequence, the consistency of the weak gravity conjecture of multi-char…
Using the generalized Hamiltonian method of Batalin, Fradkin and Vilkovsky we develop the BRST formalism for the bosonic string on AdS(5)xS(5) formulated as principal chiral model. Then we show that the monodromy matrix and non-local charges are BRST invariant.
We consider the inclusion of brane charges in AdS_5 superalgebras that contain the maximal central extension of the super-Poincaré algebra on the boundary of AdS_5. For theories with N supersymmetries on the boundary, the maximal extension is OSp(1/8N,R), which contains the group $Sp(8N,R)\supset U(2N,2N) \supset SU(2,2)\times U(N)$ as extension of the conformal group. An ``intermediate'' extension to U(2N,2N/1) is also discussed, as well as the inclusion of brane charges in AdS_7 and AdS_4 superalgebras. BPS conditions in the presence of brane charges are studied in some details.
We give a new construction of conserved charges in asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetimes in Einstein's gravity. The new formula is explicitly gauge-invariant and makes direct use of the linearized curvature tensor instead of the metric perturbation. As an example, we compute the mass and angular momentum of the Kerr-AdS black holes.
We study asymptotic symmetries and their associated charges for Maxwell theory on anti de Sitter (AdS) background in any dimension. This is obtained by constructing a conserved symplectic structure for the bulk and a theory on the boundary, which we specify. We show that the boundary phase space is described by two scalars and two sets of "source" and "response" boundary gauge transformations. The bulk dynamics is invariant under these two sets of boundary transformations. We study the (soft) charges associated with these two sets and show that they form an infinite dimensional Heisenberg type…
Two-dimensional Maxwell-dilaton quantum gravity on AdS_2 with radius $\ell$ and a constant electric field E is studied. In conformal gauge, this is equivalent to a CFT on a strip. In order to maintain consistent boundary conditions, the usual conformal diffeomorphisms must be accompanied by a certain U(1) gauge transformation. The resulting conformal transformations are generated by a twisted stress tensor, which has a central charge $c={3k E^2 \ell^4/4}$ where k is the level of the U(1) current. This is an AdS_2 analog of the Brown-Henneaux formula $c = 3\ell/2G$ for the central charge of qua…
We compute the physical charges and discuss the properties of a large class of five-dimensional extremal AdS black holes by using the near horizon data. Our examples include baryonic and electromagnetic black branes, as well as supersymmetric spinning black holes. In the presence of the gauge Chern-Simons term, the five-dimensional physical charges are the Page charges. We carry out the near horizon analysis and compute the four-dimensional charges of the corresponding black holes by using the entropy function formalism and show that they match the Page charges.
Gauge invariant conserved conformal currents built from massless fields of all spins in 4d Minkowski space-time and $AdS_4$ are described within the unfolded dynamics approach. The current cohomology associated with non-zero conserved charges is found. The resulting list of charges is shown to match the space of parameters of the conformal higher-spin symmetry algebra in four dimensions.
We derive the classical kappa-symmetric Type IIB string action on AdS(3) x S(3) by employing the SU(1,1|2)^2 algebra. We then gauge fix kappa-symmetry in the background adapted Killing spinor gauge and present the action in a very simple form.
In the background of a charged AdS dilaton black hole, we investigate the movement of a self-graviting 3-brane and relevant holographic effects as the brane move close to the AdS boundary. The induced metric on brane corresponds to an exact FLRW geometry, while the evolution of brane is determined by Israel junction condition and the effective Einstein field equation on brane together. When the brane approaches the AdS boundary, AdS/CFT correspondence implies that a radiation dominated FLRW-universe ($P=\frac{1}{3}ρ$) should be given. According to the holographic renormalization procedure, we …
Electric and magnetic charges of a certain class of operators in N=2 large N quiver Chern-Simons theories are investigated. We consider only non-chiral theories, in which every bi-fundamental field appears with its conjugate representation. By interpreting operators in a Chern-Simons theory as wrapped M-branes in the dual geometry AdS_4 x X_7, we partly determine the homologies of X_7.
A semiclassical string description is given for correlators of Wilson loops with local operators in N=4 SYM theory in the regime when operators carry parametrically large R-charge. The OPE coefficients of the circular Wilson loop in chiral primary operators are computed to all orders in the alpha' expansion in AdS_5xS^5 string theory. The results agree with field-theory predictions.
The boundary charges which constitute the Virasoro algebra in 2+1 dimensional anti-de Sitter gravity are derived by way of Noether theorem and diffeomorphic invariance. It shows that the boundary charges under discussion recently exhaust all the independent nontrivial charges available. Therefore, the state counting via the Virasoro algebra is complete.
We focus on black branes and toroidal black holes in N=2 gauged supergravities that asymptote to AdS_4, and derive formulas for the mass and central charge densities. We derive the corresponding BPS bound from the superalgebra of the asymptotic vacuum and illustrate our procedure with explicit examples of genuine black brane solutions with non-trivial scalars.
We consider four-derivative corrections to the bosonic sector of five-dimensional N=2 gauged supergravity. Since this theory includes the N=2 graviphoton, we consider both curvature and graviphoton field-strength terms that show up at the four-derivative level. We construct, to linear order, the higher-derivative corrections to the non-rotating R-charged AdS_5 black hole and demonstrate how this solution transforms under field redefinitions.
The AdS/CFT conjecture offers the possibility of a quantum description for a black hole in terms of a CFT. This has led to the study of general AdS^3 type black holes with a view to constructing an explicit toy quantum black hole model. Such a CFT description would be characterized by its central charge and the dimensions of its primary fields. Recently the expression for the central charges (C_L, C_R) of the CFT dual to the warped AdS^3 have been determined using asymptotic symmetry arguments. The central charges depend, as expected, on the warping factor. We show that topological arguments, …
We demonstrate the existence of an infinite number of local commuting charges for classical solutions of the string sigma model on AdS_5 x S^5 associated with a certain circular three-spin solution spinning with large angular momenta in three orthogonal directions on the five-sphere. Using the AdS/CFT correspondence we find agreement to one-loop with the tower of conserved higher charges in planar N=4 super Yang-Mills theory associated with the dual composite single-trace operator in the highest weight representation (J_1,J_2,J_2) of SO(6). The agreement can be explained by the presence of int…
A new supersymmetric, asymptotically anti-de Sitter, black hole solution of five-dimensional U(1)^3 gauged supergravity is presented. All known examples of such black holes arise as special cases of this solution, which is characterized by three charges and two angular momenta, with one constraint relating these five quantities. Analagous solutions of U(1)^n gauged supergravity are also presented.
We construct R-charged adS bubbles in $D =5$, ${\cal N} =8$ supergravity. These bubbles are charecterised by four parameters. The asymptotic boundary of these solutions are deSitter times a circle. By comparing boundary energies, we study the possibility of a transition from certain class of black holes to these bubbles below a critical radius of the boundary circle. We argue that this may occur when four parameters of the bubble satisfy a constraint among themselves.
The issue of microstate counting for general black holes in D=5, N=2 supergravity coupled to vector multiplets is discussed from various viewpoints. The statistical entropy is computed for the near-extremal case by using the central charge appearing in the asymptotic symmetry algebra of AdS_2. Furthermore, we show that the considered supergravity theory enjoys a duality invariance which connects electrically charged black holes and magnetically charged black strings. The near-horizon geometry of the latter turns out to be AdS_3 x S^2, which allows a microscopic calculation of their entropy usi…
In this work we study the analytical properties of a 2+1 dimensional magnetically charged holographic superconductor in $AdS_4$. We obtain the critical chemical potential $μ_c$ analytically, using the Sturm-Liouville variational approach. Also, the obtained analytic result can be used to back up the numerical computations in the holographic superconductor in the probe limit.
