Eigenvalue gaps for hyperbolic groups and semigroups

Given a locally constant linear cocycle over a subshift of finite type, we show that the existence of a uniform gap between the i-th and (i+1)-th Lyapunov exponents for all invariant measures implies the existence of a dominated splitting of index i. We establish a similar result for sofic subshifts coming from word hyperbolic groups, in relation with Anosov representations of such groups. We discuss the case of finitely generated semigroups, and propose a notion of Anosov representation in this setting.

We give a generalization to convex co-compact semigroups of a beautiful theorem of Patterson-Sullivan, telling that the critical exponent (that is the exponential growth rate) equals the Hausdorff dimension of the limit set (that is the smallest closed non-empty invariant subset), for a isometries discrete group of a proper hyperbolic space with compact boundary. Dynamics of postcritically bounded polynomial semigroups III: classification of semi-hyperbolic semigroups and random Julia sets which are Jordan curves but not quasicircles

We investigate the dynamics of polynomial semigroups (semigroups generated by a family of polynomial maps on the Riemann sphere) and the random dynamics of polynomials on the Riemann sphere. Semi-hyperbolic fibered rational maps and rational semigroups

We consider fiber-preserving complex dynamics on fiber bundles whose fibers are Riemann spheres and whose base spaces are compact metric spaces. In this context, without any assumption on (semi-)hyperbolicity, we show that the fiberwise Julia sets are uniformly perfect. Measures and dimensions of Julia sets of semi-hyperbolic rational semigroups

We consider the dynamics of semi-hyperbolic semigroups generated by finitely many rational maps on the Riemann sphere. Assuming that the nice open set condition holds it is proved that there exists a geometric measure on the Julia set with exponent $h$ equal to the Hausdorff dimension of the Julia set. Cesaro convergence of spherical averages for measure-preserving actions of Markov semigroups and groups

Cesaro convergence of spherical averages is proven for measure-preserving actions of Markov semigroups and groups. Convergence in the mean is established for functions in $L^p$, $1\le p<\infty$, and pointwise convergence for functions in $L^\infty$. In particular, for measure-preserving actions of word hyperbolic groups (in the sense of Gromov) we obtain Cesaro convergence of spherical averages with respect to any symmetric set of generators.

Fourier dimension and spectral gaps for hyperbolic surfaces

We obtain an essential spectral gap for a convex co-compact hyperbolic surface $M=Γ\backslash\mathbb H^2$ which depends only on the dimension $δ$ of the limit set. More precisely, we show that when $δ>0$ there exists $\varepsilon_0=\varepsilon_0(δ)>0$ such that the Selberg zeta function has only finitely many zeroes $s$ with $\Re s>δ-\varepsilon_0$. Spectral gaps in Wasserstein distances and the 2D stochastic Navier--Stokes equations

We develop a general method to prove the existence of spectral gaps for Markov semigroups on Banach spaces. Unlike most previous work, the type of norm we consider for this analysis is neither a weighted supremum norm nor an $Ł^p$-type norm, but involves the derivative of the observable as well and hence can be seen as a type of 1-Wasserstein distance. Viscosity solutions and hyperbolic motions: a new PDE method for the $N$-body problem

We prove for the $N$-body problem the existence of hyperbolic motions for any prescribed limit shape and any given initial configuration of the bodies. The energy level $h>0$ of the motion can also be chosen arbitrarily. Our approach is based on the construction of global viscosity solutions for the Hamilton-Jacobi equation $H(x,d_xu)=h$. We prove that these solutions are fixed points of the associated Lax-Oleinik semigroup. The presented results can also be viewed as a new application of Marchal's theorem, whose main use in recent literature has been to prove the existence of periodic orbits.
