We use the Melnikov method to identify chaotic behavior in geodesic motion perturbed by the minimal length effects around a Schwarzschild black hole. Unlike the integrable unperturbed geodesic motion, our results show that the perturbed homoclinic orbit, which is a geodesic joining the unstable circular orbit to itself, becomes chaotic in the sense that Smale horseshoes chaotic structure is present in phase space.
It is shown that the scattering of a charged test particle by a system of four extreme Reissner-Nordtröm black holes is chaotic in some cases. The fractal structure of the scattering angle and time delay functions is another manifestation of the existence of a nonattracting chaotic set: fractal basin boundaries were previously known.
In the Schwarzchild black hole spacetime, we show that chaotic motion can be triggered by the spin of a particle. Taking the spin of the particle as a perturbation and using the Melnikov method, we find that the perturbed stable and unstable orbits are entangled with each other and that illustrates the onset of chaotic behavior in the motion of the particle.
Recently, it was conjectured that the Lyapunov exponent of chaotic motion of a particle in a black hole is universally bounded from above by the surface gravity of the black hole. On the other hand, the minimal length appears in various theories of quantum gravity and leads to the deformed canonical position-momentum commutation relation. In this paper, we use the Hamilton-Jacobi method to study effects of the minimal length on the motion of a massive particle perturbed away from an unstable equilibrium near the black hole horizon. We find that the minimal length effects make the particle move…
NMDC-Palatini cosmology in slow-roll regime is of our interests. We present flat FLRW cosmological NMDC-Palatini field equations and acceleration condition. Late time trajectory is approximated. Chaotic inflation potential is considered here as it is viable in a range of positive coupling constant as constrained by CMB results. Phase portraits show that the NMDC-Palatini gives new saddle-point solutions. In $V \propto ϕ^2$ potential, the NMDC-Palatini effect enlarges the acceleration-allowed region from that of GR case.
We study the motion of a ring string in the background of the Bardeen-AdS black hole surrounded by the quintessence dark energy. The effects of the magnetic monopole charge, the quintessence state parameter, and the quintessence normalization parameter on the dynamical behavior of the ring string are respectively analyzed. Our numerical results show that the chaotic behavior of string generally becomes stronger with the increase of the quintessence normalization parameter. In particular, the conditions for the existence of chaos are distinctly diverse for two different quintessence state param…
Regular and chaotic test particle motion in gravitational fields due to stellar bodies with quadrupolar and octupolar deformation are studied using Poincare surfaces of section. In first instance, we analyze the purely Newtonian case and we find that the octupolar term induces a distortion in the KAM curves corresponding to regular trajectories as well as an increase in chaoticity, even in the case corresponding to oblate deformation. Then we examine the effect of the first general relativistic corrections, provided by the post Newtonian approach. For typical values of the post Newtonian multi…
The existence of chaotic behavior for the geodesics of the test particles orbiting compact objects is a subject of much current research. Some years ago, Guéron and Letelier [Phys. Rev. E \textbf{66}, 046611 (2002)] reported the existence of chaotic behavior for the geodesics of the test particles orbiting compact objects like black holes induced by specific values of the quadrupolar deformation of the source using as models the Erez--Rosen solution and the Kerr black hole deformed by an internal multipole term. In this work, we are interesting in the study of the dynamic behavior of geodesics…
In this paper, we consider a charged particle moves around a Weakly Magnetized Kerr-Newman black hole. We first study its circular motion with a detailed analysis in the innermost stable circular orbits(ISCO). Then the dynamics of a particle, kicked out from the circular orbit, is also explored. The final states can be characterized into three different types: bound motion, captured by black hole or escape to spatial infinity. The respective trajectories are shown, and are mainly determined by the energy of a particle after a kick and the initial condition, in which we use Basins of attraction…
We investigate the long-term orbital dynamics of spinless extended bodies in Schwarzschild geometry, and show that periodic deviations from spherical symmetry in the shape of a test body may trigger the onset of chaos. We do this by applying Dixon's formalism at quadrupolar order to a nearly spherical body whose shape oscillates between a prolate and an oblate spheroid. The late-time chaotic behavior is then verified by applying Melnikov's method.
In this paper, we make a systematical and in-depth study on the chaotic dynamics of the string around the conformal black hole. Depending on the characteristic parameter of the conformal black hole and the initial position of the string, there are three kinds of dynamical behaviors: ordered, chaotic and being captured, chaotic but not being captured. A particular interesting observation is that there is a sharp transition in chaotic dynamics when the black hole horizon disappears, which is indepent of the initial position of the string. It provides a possible way to probe the horizon structure…
Fractal basin boundaries provide an important means of characterizing chaotic systems. We apply these ideas to general relativity, where other properties such as Lyapunov exponents are difficult to define in an observer independent manner. Here we discuss the difficulties in describing chaotic systems in general relativity and investigate the motion of particles in two- and three-black-hole spacetimes. We show that the dynamics is chaotic by exhibiting the basins of attraction of the black holes which have fractal boundaries. Overcoming problems of principle as well as numerical difficulties, …
The motion of particles in the field of forces associated to an axially symmetric attraction center modeled by a monopolar term plus a prolate quadrupole deformation is studied using Poincare surface of sections and Lyapunov characteristic numbers. We find chaotic motion for certain values of the parameters, and that the instability of the orbits increases when the quadrupole parameter increases. A general relativistic analogue is briefly discussed.
By fast Lyapunov indicator (FLI), we study the chaotic dynamics of closed string around charged black brane with hyperscaling violation (HV). The Hawking temperature, Lifshitz dynamical exponent and HV exponent together affect the chaotic dynamics of this system. The temperature plays the role of driving the closed string to escape to infinity. There is a threshold value $z_{\ast}=2$, below which the string is captured by the black brane no matter where the string is placed at the beginning. However, when $z>2$, the string escapes to infinity if it is placed near the black brane at the beginni…
Motivated by the strong astronomical evidences supporting that huge black-holes might inhabit the center of many active galaxies, we have studied the integrability of oblique orbits of test particles around the exact superposition of a black-hole and a thin disk. We have considered the relativistic and the Newtonian limits. Exhaustive numerical analyses were performed, and bounded zones of chaotic behavior were found for both limits. An intrinsic relativistic gravitational effect is detected: the chaoticity of trajectories that do not cross the disk.
We investigate inflationary attractor points by analyzing non-minimally coupled single field inflation models in two opposite limits; the `flat' limit in which the first derivative of the conformal factor is small and the `steep' limit, in which the first derivative of the conformal factor is large. We consider a subset of models that yield Starobinsky inflation in the steep conformal factor, strong coupling, limit and demonstrate that they result in chaotic inflation in the opposite flat, weak coupling, limit. The suppression of higher order powers of the inflaton field in the potential is sh…

We study behaviour of ionized region of a Keplerian disk orbiting a Schwarzschild black hole immersed in an asymptotically uniform magnetic field. In dependence on the magnetic parameter ${\cal B}$, and inclination angle $θ$ of the disk plane with respect to the magnetic field direction, the charged particles of the ionized disk can enter three regimes: a) regular oscillatory motion, b) destruction due to capture by the magnetized black hole, c) chaotic regime of the motion. In order to study transition between the regular and chaotic type of the charged particle motion, we generate time serie…
We consider, in Palatini formalism, a modified gravity of which the scalar field derivative couples to Einstein tensor. In this scenario, Ricci scalar, Ricci tensor and Einstein tensor are functions of connection field. As a result, the connection field gives rise to relation, $h_{μν} = f g_{μν}$ between effective metric, $h_{μν}$ and the usual metric $g_{μν}$ where $f \,=\,1 - κϕ^{,α}ϕ_{,α}/2 $. In FLRW universe, NMDC coupling constant is limited in a range of $ -2/ \dotϕ^{2} < κ\leq \infty $ preserving Lorentz signature of the effective metric. Slowly-rolling regime provides $κ< 0$ forbiddin…
We study the embedding of the quadratic model of chaotic inflation into the 4D, N=1 minimal theories of supergravity by the use of massive vector multiplets and investigate its robustness against higher order corrections. In particular, we investigate the criterion of technical naturalness for the inflaton potential. In the framework of the new-minimal formulation the massive vector multiplet is built in terms of a real linear multiplet coupled to a vector multiplet via the 4D analog of the Green-Schwarz term. This theory gives rise to a single-field quadratic model of chaotic inflation, which…
We investigated dynamics of the test particle in the gravitational field of the charged black hole with dipoles in this paper. At first we have studied the gravitational potential, by the numerical simulations, we found, for appropriate parameters, that there are two different cases in the potential curve, one is a well case with a stable critical point, and the other is three wells case with three stable critical points and two unstable critical points. As consequence, the chaotic motion will rise. We have performed the evolution of the orbits of the test particle in phase space, we found tha…
We extend recent investigations on the integrability of oblique orbits of test particles under the gravitational field corresponding to the superposition of an infinitesimally thin disk and a monopole to the more realistic case, for astrophysical purposes, of a thick disk. Exhaustive numerical analyses were performed and the robustness of the recent results is confirmed. We also found that, for smooth distributions of matter, the disk thickness can attenuate the chaotic behavior of the bounded oblique orbits. Perturbations leading to the breakdown of the reflection symmetry about the equatoria…
We study the motion of charged test particles around a Kerr black hole immersed in the asymptotically uniform magnetic field, concluding that off-equatorial stable orbits are allowed in this system. Being interested in dynamical properties of these astrophysically relevant orbits we employ rather novel approach based on the analysis of recurrences of the system to the vicinity of its previous states. We use recurrence plots (RPs) as a tool to visualize recurrences of the trajectory in the phase space. Construction of RPs is simple and straightforward regardless of the dimension of the phase sp…
Neutral test particles around a Schwarzschild black hole immersed in an external uniform magnetic field have no interactions of electromagnetic forces, but their motions can be chaotic. This chaotic behavior is induced owing to the gravitational effect of the magnetic field leading to the nonintegrability of the magnetized Ernst-Schwarzschild spacetime geometry. In fact, chaos is strengthened typically with an increase of the energy or the magnetic field under appropriate circumstances. When these test particles have charges, the electromagnetic forces are included. As a result, the electromag…
We consider test particle motion in a gravitational field generated by a homogeneous circular ring placed in $n$-dimensional Euclidean space. We observe that there exist no stable stationary orbits in $n=6, 7, \ldots, 10$ but exist in $n=3, 4, 5$ and clarify the regions in which they appear. In $n=3$, we show that the separation of variables of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation does not occur though we find no signs of chaos for stable bound orbits. Since the system is integrable in $n=4$, no chaos appears. In $n=5$, we find some chaotic stable bound orbits. Therefore, this system is nonintegrable …
In a recent letter, arXiv:1509.00021, it was shown that the lensing of light around rotating boson stars and Kerr black holes with scalar hair can exhibit chaotic patterns. Since no separation of variables is known (or expected) for geodesic motion on these backgrounds, we examine the 2D effective potentials for photon trajectories, to obtain a deeper understanding of this phenomenon. We find that the emergence of stable light rings on the background spacetimes, allows the formation of "pockets" in one of the effective potentials, for open sets of impact parameters, leading to an effective tra…
We find that the model of a black hole plus an exterior halo of quadrupoles and octopoles recently proposed by us is more chaotic than previously detected. In fact, the quadrupolar component gives rise also to a chaotic behavior, found after further numerical search. This fact reinforces even more the role of chaos in relativistic core--halo models.
We study bound orbits of a free particle around a singly rotating black ring. We find there exists chaotic motion of a particle which is gravitationally bound to the black ring by using the Poincare map.
Various quantum theories of gravity predict the existence of a minimal measurable length. In this paper, we study effects of the minimal length on the motion of a particle in the Rindler space under a harmonic potential. This toy model captures key features of particle dynamics near a black hole horizon, and allows us to make three observations. First, we find that the chaotic behavior is stronger with the increases of the minimal length effects, which manifests that the maximum Lyapunov characteristic exponents mostly grow, and the KAM curves on Poincaré surfaces of section tend to disintegra…
We study gravitational waves from a particle moving around a system of a point mass with a disk in Newtonian gravitational theory. A particle motion in this system can be chaotic when the gravitational contribution from a surface density of a disk is comparable with that from a point mass. In such an orbit, we sometimes find that there appears a phase of the orbit in which particle motion becomes to be nearly regular (the so-called ``stagnant motion'') for a finite time interval between more strongly chaotic phases. To study how these different chaotic behaviours affect on observation of gravi…
In this paper, we study the chaotic motion of a massive particle moving in a perturbed Schwarzschild or Kerr background. We discover three novel orbits that do not exist in the unperturbed cases. First, we find zoom-whirl orbits moving around the photon shell which simultaneously exhibits Arnold diffusion: large oscillations of particle's angular momentum and energy. Next, we show the existence of oscillating orbits between a bounded region and infinity, analogous to Newtonian three-body problem. Thirdly, we find that in perturbed Kerr, there exists chaotic orbits around the event horizon that…
Geodesic dynamics is regular in the fields of isolated stationary black holes. However, due to the presence of unstable periodic orbits, it easily becomes chaotic under various perturbations. Here we examine what amount of chaoticity is induced in Schwarzschild space-time by a presence of an additional source. Following astrophysical motivation, we specifically consider thin rings or discs lying symmetrically around the hole, and describe the total field in terms of exact static and axially symmetric solutions of Einstein's equations. The growth of chaos in time-like geodesic motion is illustr…
In the present work, we study slow-roll inflation in scalar-tensor gravity theories in the presence of both the non-minimal coupling between the scalar field and curvature, and the Galileon self-interaction of the scalar field. Furthermore, we give predictions for the duration of reheating as well as for the reheating temperature after inflation. After working out the expressions for the power spectra of scalar and tensor perturbations in the case of a general non-minimal coupling function that depends solely on the scalar field and a general scalar potential, we focus on the special cases of …
We study the properties of chaos in the motions of a spinning test particle in Schwarzschild spacetime. We characterize the chaos using the power spectrum of the time series of $z$ components of the particle's position. It is found that the pattern of the power spectrum shows not only white noise but also $1/f$-type fluctuation, depending on the value of the total angular momentum $J$ and the spin $S$ of the test particle. Therefore we succeed in classifying the chaotic motions, which have been classified as simply chaotic ones in former works, into the two distinct types. One is $1/f$, and th…
A charged particle kicked from an initial circular orbit around a weakly magnetized Schwarzschild black hole undergoes transient chaotic motion before either getting captured by the black hole or escaping upstream or downstream with respect to the direction of the magnetic field. These final states form basins of attraction in the space of initial states. We provide a detailed numerical study of the basin structure of this initial state space. We find it to possess the peculiar Wada property: each of its basin boundaries is shared by all three basins. Using basin entropy as a measure, we show …
