Wireless communication is the most effective communication to convey audio or video information among the population. It enables the masses to connect throughout the world. Wireless technologies improve the lifestyle of individuals in rural and poor communication areas. In this view, the quality of a reliable signal can be enhanced by minimizing carrier interference. In this paper bit error rate of an image, signal is transmitted over fading channel is analyzed using orthogonal frequency multiplexing and channel estimation technique. An Orthogonal Frequency Multiplexing (OFDM) provides prominent bandwidth effectiveness and improved immunity to the fading environments. In OFDM, the data is modulated using multiple numbers of subcarriers that are orthogonal to each other. A cyclic prefix is infixed between OFDM symbols to annihilate the inter symbol interference (ISI) and inter-carrier interference (ICI). The least square channel estimation method is used to minimize the effect of multipath fading. An image, signal is modulated using BPSK, QPSK, 16QAM and 64QAM digital modulation schemes with OFDM and channel estimation and transmitted over AWGN and fading channel. The objective of this work is to improve the signal to noise ratio by reducing interference.

CFmMIMO-OFDM is scalable to serve a massive number of users and is flexible to offer diverse data rates for heterogeneous applications.
We investigate joint source channel coding (JSCC) for wireless image transmission over multipath fading channels. Inspired by recent works on deep learning based JSCC and model-based learning methods, we combine an autoencoder with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) to cope with multipath fading. The proposed encoder and decoder use convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and directly map the source images to complex-valued baseband samples for OFDM transmission. The multipath channel and OFDM are represented by non-trainable (deterministic) but differentiable layers so that the sy…
Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing with index modulation (OFDM-IM) is a novel scheme where the information bits are conveyed through the subcarrier activation pattern (SAP) and the symbols on the active subcarriers. Unfortunately, OFDM-IM inherits the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) problem from the classical OFDM. The OFDMIM signal with high PAPR induces in-band distortion and out-of-band radiation when it passes through high power amplifier (HPA). There are attempts to reduce PAPR by adding dither signals in the idle subcarriers, where the dither signals can have various ampl…
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a transmission technique that uses several subcarrier frequencies (multicarrier) that are perpendicular to each other (orthogonal). This OFDM modulation technique effectively eliminates Intersymbol Interference (ISI) on a channel caused by the effects of multipath fading. To overcome this weakness, OFDM uses a guard interval (cyclic prefix) inserted in its transmission. This paper analyses the effect of different cyclic prefix lengths on OFDM performance on multipath channels using Matlab. Here, the cyclic prefix length as the main parameter…
Multi-path fading seriously affects the accuracy of timing synchronization (TS) in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. To tackle this issue, we propose a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based TS scheme assisted by initial path acquisition in this paper. Specifically, the classic cross-correlation method is first employed to estimate a coarse timing offset and capture an initial path, which shrinks the TS search region. Then, a one-dimensional (1-D) CNN is developed to optimize the TS of OFDM systems. Due to the narrowed search region of TS, the CNN-based TS effectivel…
A telecommunication system uses carriers in order to transmit information through a cable or wirelessly. If each time only one carrier is transmitted, then the system s signal will not be immune to frequency selective fading. If frequency selective fading includes the working frequency of the system, then the wireless link will not be established. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing OFDM is the primary solution for coping with inter signal interference and frequency selective fading. Many carriers can be produced by splitting a fast information stream to slower data series. Different or…

We provide a new generation solution to the fundamental old problem of a doubly selective fading channel estimation for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. For systems based on OFDM, we propose a deep learning (DL)-based blind doubly selective channel estimator. This estimator does require no pilot symbols, unlike the corresponding state-of-the-art estimators, even during the estimation of a deep fading doubly selective channel. We also provide the first of its kind theory on the testing mean squared error (MSE) performance of our investigated blind OFDM channel estimato…
In this paper, the probability distribution of the peak to average power ratio (PAPR) is analyzed for the mixed numerologies transmission based on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). State of the art theoretical analysis implicitly assumes continuous and symmetric frequency spectrum of OFDM signals. Thus, it is difficult to be applied to the mixed-numerology system due to its complication. By comprehensively considering system parameters, including numerology, bandwidth and power level of each subband, we propose a generic analytical distribution function of PAPR for continuous-…
We present a deep learning based joint source channel coding (JSCC) scheme for wireless image transmission over multipath fading channels with non-linear signal clipping. The proposed encoder and decoder use convolutional neural networks (CNN) and directly map the source images to complex-valued baseband samples for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission. The proposed model-driven machine learning approach eliminates the need for separate source and channel coding while integrating an OFDM datapath to cope with multipath fading channels. The end-to-end JSCC communicatio…

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a collection of Internet connected devices capable of interacting with the physical world and computer systems. It is estimated that the IoT will consist of approximately fifty billion devices by the year 2020. In addition to the sheer numbers, the need for IoT security is exacerbated by the fact that many of the edge devices employ weak to no encryption of the communication link. It has been estimated that almost 70% of IoT devices use no form of encryption. Previous research has suggested the use of Specific Emitter Identification (SEI), a physical layer techn…

This work quantifies, for the first time, intersymbol and intercarrier interferences induced by very dispersive channels in OFDM systems. The resulting achievable data rate for \wam{suboptimal} OFDM transmissions is derived based on the computation of signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio for arbitrary length finite duration channel impulse responses. Simulation results point to significant differences between data rates obtained via conventional formulations, for which interferences are supposed to be limited to two or three blocks, versus the data rates considering the actual channel dispe…
In this study, we propose an over-the-air computation (AirComp) scheme for federated edge learning (FEEL) without channel state information (CSI) at the edge devices (EDs) or the edge server (ES). The proposed scheme relies on non-coherent communication techniques for achieving distributed training by majority vote (MV). In this work, the votes, i.e., the signs of the local gradients, from the EDs are represented with the pulse-position modulation (PPM) symbols constructed with discrete Fourier transform (DFT)-spread orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) (DFT-s-OFDM). By taking the…
In this paper, robustness of non-contiguous orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (NC-OFDM) transmissions is investigated and contrasted to OFDM transmissions for fending off signal exploitation attacks. In contrast to ODFM transmissions, NC-OFDM transmissions take place over a subset of active subcarriers to either avoid incumbent transmissions or for strategic considerations. A point-to-point communication system is considered in this paper in the presence of an adversary (exploiter) that aims to infer transmission parameters (e.g., the subset of active subcarriers and duration of the s…

In this paper, we propose low-complexity frequency domain equalizations to combat fast fading, based on novel discrete delay-time and frequency-Doppler channel models. Exploiting the circular stripe diagonal nature of the frequency-Doppler channel matrix, we introduce low-complexity frequency domain minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalization for OTFS systems with fully resolvable Doppler spre…
We present a learning-based channel-adaptive joint source and channel coding (CA-JSCC) scheme for wireless image transmission over multipath fading channels. The proposed method is an end-to-end autoencoder architecture with a dual-attention mechanism employing orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission. Unlike the previous works, our approach is adaptive to channel-gain and noise-power variations by exploiting the estimated channel state information (CSI). Specifically, with the proposed dual-attention mechanism, our model can learn to map the features and allocate transmi…

The proposed non-iterative algorithm jointly maximizes the throughput and minimizes the transmitted power, while guaranteeing a target bit error rate (BER) per subcarrier. Closed-form expressions are derived for the optimal bit and power distributions per subcarrier. The performance of the proposed algorithm is investigated through extensive simulations. A performance compa…
A novel transmission scheme is introduced for efficient data transmission by conveying additional information bits through jointly changing the index and number of active subcarriers within each orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) subblock. The proposed scheme is different from the conventional OFDM-subcarrier number modulation (OFDM-SNM) and OFDM-index modulation (OFDM-IM), in which data bits are transmitted using either number or index of active subcarriers. The proposed modulation technique offers superior spectral and energy efficiency compared to its counterparts OFDM-SNM an…
The (inverse) discrete Fourier transform (DFT/IDFT) is often perceived as essential to orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. In this paper, a deep complex-valued convolutional network (DCCN) is developed to recover bits from time-domain OFDM signals without relying on any explicit DFT/IDFT. The DCCN can exploit the cyclic prefix (CP) of OFDM waveform for increased SNR by replacing DFT with a learned linear transform, and has the advantage of combining CP-exploitation, channel estimation, and intersymbol interference (ISI) mitigation, with a complexity of $\mathcal{O}(N^2)$…
Most of the recent power line communication (PLC) systems and standards, both narrow-band and broadband, are based on orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM). This multiplexing scheme however suffers from the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) which can considerably impact the energy efficiency, size and cost of PLC modems as well as cause electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) issues. This paper investigates the performance of vector OFDM (VOFDM), which has inherently better PAPR properties, over non-Gaussian broadband PLC channels equipped with two nonlinear preprocessors at the …
In this letter, we study efficient channel estimation for an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-assisted orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system to achieve minimum training time. First, a fast channel estimation scheme with reduced OFDM symbol duration is proposed for arbitrary frequency-selective fading channels. Next, under the typical condition that the IRS-user channel is line-of-sight (LoS) dominant, another fast channel estimation scheme based on the novel concept of sampling-wise IRS reflection variation is proposed. Moreover, the pilot signal and IRS training reflect…
In wireless communication systems, Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) includes variants using either a cyclic prefix (CP) or a zero padding (ZP) as the guard interval to avoid inter-symbol interference. OFDM is ideally suited to deal with frequency-selective channels and additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN); however, its performance may be dramatically degraded in the presence of impulse noise. While the ZP variants of OFDM exhibit lower bit error rate (BER)and higher energy efficiency compared to their CP counterparts, they demand strict time synchronization, which is challengin…
In cell-free massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, user equipments (UEs) are served by many distributed access points (APs), where channels are correlated due to finite angle-delay spread in realistic outdoor wireless propagation environments. Meanwhile, the number of UEs is growing rapidly for future fully networked society. In this paper, we focus on the uplink transmission design in crowded correlated cell-free massive MIMO-OFDM systems with limited number of orthogonal pilots. For the pilot transmission phase, we identify a…
With the emergence of new applications (e.g., extended reality and haptics), which require to be simultaneously served not just with low latency and sufficient reliability, but also with high spectral efficiency, future networks (i.e., 6G) should be capable of meeting this demand by introducing new effective transmission designs. Motivated by this, a novel modulation technique termed as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing with subcarrier power modulation (OFDM-SPM) is proposed for providing highly spectral-efficient data transmission with low-latency and less-complexity for future 6G wi…
We describe a simple modification of the Schmidl-Cox detector for establishing timing in OFDM transmissions that stabilizes performance in transitions from no-signal to signal, or vice-versa. Moreover, the proposed modification scales the detector's metric between 0 and 1 for all scenarios, simplifying threshold setting, and improves timing detector SNR.
In this study, we propose a framework for chirp-based communications by exploiting discrete Fourier transform-spread orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-s-OFDM). We show that a well-designed frequency-domain spectral shaping (FDSS) filter for DFT-s-OFDM can convert its single-carrier nature to a linear combination of chirps circularly translated in the time domain. Also, by exploiting the properties of the Fourier series and Bessel function of the first kind, we analytically obtain the FDSS filter for an arbitrary chirp. We theoretically show that the chirps with low ripples in the…
In this letter, we propose a joint resource allocation algorithm for an OFDM-based multi-user system assisted by an improved Decode-and-Forward (DF) relay. We aim at maximizing the sum rate of the system by jointly optimizing subcarrier pairing, subcarrier pair-user assignment, and power allocation in such a single DF relay system. When the relay does not perform any transmission on some subcarriers in the second phase, we further allow the source to transmit new symbols on these inactive subcarriers. We effectively solve the formulated mixed integer programming problem by using continuous rel…
In this paper, we propose a novel deep learning based approach for joint channel estimation and signal detection in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems by exploring the time and frequency correlation of wireless fading channels. Then, based on the outcome of the CENet, a Channel Conditioned Recovery Network (CCRNet) is designed to recover the transmit signal. Experimental results demonstrate that CENet and CCRNet achieve supe…
In this paper, we explore a dual-functional radar-communication (DFRC) system for achieving integrated sensing and communications (ISAC). For future wireless communication technologies, an increase in capabilities such as throughput is strongly expected. Transmission in the sub-THz bands (>90 GHz) seems to be the potential solution to meet the ever-increasing capacity demands due to the large unexploited bandwidth. Oscillators used at these frequencies generate phase noise that induces critical distortions in the signal that must be addressed. The correlated nature of PN makes it difficult to overcome. Nowadays, there is a growing interest in considering the extension of multicarrier based waveforms of the 5G new radio for trans…

A novel mathematical framework is proposed to model Intersymbol Interference (ISI) phenomenon in wireless communication systems based on Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) with or without cyclic prefix. The framework is based on a new formula to calculate the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) of a triangular Toeplitz matrix, which is derived and proven in this paper. It is shown that distortion inducted by the ISI from a given subcarrier is the most significant for the closest subcarriers and the contribution decays as the distance between subcarriers grows. According to numerical ex…

In this paper, we propose a deep learning-based signal detector called DuaIM-3DNet for dual-mode index modulation-based three-dimensional (3D) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DM-IM-3D-OFDM). Herein, DM-IM-3D- OFDM is a subcarrier index modulation scheme which conveys data bits via both dual-mode 3D constellation symbols and indices of active subcarriers. Thus, this scheme obtains better error performance than the existing IM schemes when using the conventional maximum likelihood (ML) detector, which, however, suffers from high computational complexity, especially when the system pa…
We extend the idea of end-to-end learning of communications systems through deep neural network (NN)-based autoencoders to orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with cyclic prefix (CP). Our implementation has the same benefits as a conventional OFDM system, namely singletap equalization and robustness against sampling synchronization errors, which turned out to be one of the major challenges in previous single-carrier implementations. This enables reliable communication over multipath channels and makes the communication scheme suitable for commodity hardware with imprecise oscilla…
