In this paper we give a complete description of the spectral analysis of the Schrodinger operator L(V) with the optical potentil. First we consider the Bolch eigenvalues and spectrum of L(V). Then using it we investigate spectral singularities and essential spectral singularities (ESS). We prove that the operator L(V) has no ESS and has ESS respectively if and only if V is not a critical point and V is a critical point. Using it we classify the spectral expansion in term of the critical points. Finally we discuss the critical points, formulate some conjectures and describe the changes of the spectrum of L(V) when V changes.
We demonstrate criteria, purely based on finite subwords of the potential, to guarantee spectral inclusion as well as Hausdorff approximation of pseudospectra or even spectra of generalized Schrödinger operators on the discrete line or half-line. In fact, our results are neither limited to Schrödinger or self-adjoint operators, nor to Hilbert space or 1D.
In this paper the localization properties of the spectral expansions of distributions related to the self adjoint extension of the Schrodinger operator are investigated. Spectral decompositions of the distributions and some classes of distributions are defined. Estimations for Riesz means of the spectral decompositions of the distributions in the norm of the Sobolev classes with negative order are obtained.
It is shown that there exits a lower bound $α>0$ to the Hausdorff dimension of the spectral measures of the one-dimensional period doubling substitution Schrödinger operator, and, generically in the hull of such sequence, $α$ is also a lower bound to the upper packing dimension of spectral measures.
Semiclassical Spectral Invariants for Schrödinger Operators

In this paper we continue the study of the spectral gap of Schrödinger operators on large intervals and subject to Neumann boundary conditions. The main goal is to derive a lower bound on the spectral gap which is polynomial in the interval length. This bound is derived for a class of bounded potentials of compact support which are weak enough in a suitable sense.
We study location of eigenvalues of one-dimensional discrete Schrödinger operators with complex $\ell^{p}$-potentials for $1\leq p\leq \infty$. In the case of $\ell^{1}$-potentials, the derived bound is shown to be optimal. For $p>1$, two different spectral bounds are obtained. The method relies on the Birman-Schwinger principle and various techniques for estimations of the norm of the Birman-Schwinger operator.
We find the high energy asymptotics for the singular Weyl--Titchmarsh m-functions and the associated spectral measures of perturbed spherical Schrödinger operators (also known as Bessel operators). We apply this result to establish an improved local Borg-Marchenko theorem for Bessel operators as well as uniqueness theorems for the radial quantum scattering problem with nontrivial angular momentum.
The principal purpose of this note is to provide a reconstruction procedure for distributional matrix-valued potential coefficients of Schrödinger-type operators on a half-line from the underlying Weyl-Titchmarsh function.
We study the asymptotic behaviour of the spectral gap of Schrödinger operators in two and higher dimensions and in a limit where the volume of the domain tends to infinity. Depending on properties of the underlying potential, we will find different asymptotic behaviours of the gap. In some cases the gap behaves as the gap of the free Dirichlet Laplacian and in some cases it does not.
Exact Hausdorff dimensions are computed for singular continuous components of the spectral measures of a class of Schrödinger operators in bounded intervals.
We study spectral properties of convolution operators $\mathcal L$ and their perturbations $H=\mathcal L+v(x)$ by compactly supported potentials. Results are applied to determine the front propagation of a population density governed by operator $H$ with a compactly supported initial density provided that $H$ has positive eigenvalues. If there is no positive spectrum, then the stabilization of the population density is proved.
We examine two kinds of spectral theoretic situations: First, we recall the case of self-adjoint half-line Schrödinger operators on $[a,\infty)$, $a\in\mathbb{R}$, with a regular finite end point $a$ and the case of Schrödinger operators on the real line with locally integrable potentials, which naturally lead to Herglotz functions and $2\times 2$ matrix-valued Herglotz functions representing the associated Weyl-Titchmarsh coefficients. Second, we contrast this with the case of self-adjoint half-line Schrödinger operators on $(a,\infty)$ with a potential strongly singular at the end point $a$.…
In this note we provide an explicit lower bound on the spectral gap of one-dimensional Schrödinger operators with non-negative bounded potentials and subject to Neumann boundary conditions.
The main objective of this paper is to systematically develop a spectral and scattering theory for selfadjoint Schrödinger operators with $δ$-interactions supported on closed curves in $\mathbb R^3$. We provide bounds for the number of negative eigenvalues depending on the geometry of the curve, prove an isoperimetric inequality for the principal eigenvalue, derive Schatten--von Neumann properties for the resolvent difference with the free Laplacian, and establish an explicit representation for the scattering matrix.
We study half-line Schrödinger operators with locally $H^{-1}$ potentials. In the first part, we focus on a general spectral theoretic framework for such operators, including a Last--Simon-type description of the absolutely continuous spectrum and sufficient conditions for different spectral types. In the second part, we focus on potentials which are decaying in a local $H^{-1}$ sense; we establish a spectral transition between short-range and long-range potentials and an $\ell^2$ spectral transition for sparse singular potentials. The regularization procedure used to handle distributional pot…
We study the influence of certain geometric perturbations on the spectra of self-adjoint Schrödinger operators on compact metric graphs. Results are obtained for permutation invariant vertex conditions, which, amongst others, include $δ$ and $δ'$-type conditions. We show that adding edges to the graph or joining vertices changes the eigenvalues monotonically. However, the monotonicity properties may differ from what is known for the previously studied cases of Kirchhoff (or standard) and $δ$-conditions and may depend on the signs of the coefficients in the vertex conditions.
In this paper we investigate the spectral and the scattering theory of Schrödinger operators acting on perturbed periodic discrete graphs. The perturbations considered are of two types: either a multiplication operator by a short-range or a long-range function, or a short-range type modification of the measure defined on the vertices and on the edges of the graph. Mourre theory is used for describing the nature of the spectrum of the underlying operators. For short-range perturbations, existence and completeness of local wave operators are also proved.
We consider discrete Schrödinger operators with pattern Sturmian potentials. This class of potentials strictly contains the class of Sturmian potentials, for which the spectral properties of the associated Schrödinger operators are well understood. In particular, it is known that for every Sturmian potential, the associated Schrödinger operator has zero-measure spectrum and purely singular continuous spectral measures. We conjecture that the same statements hold in the more general class of pattern Sturmian potentials. We prove partial results in support of this conjecture. In particular, we c…
We study continuum Schrödinger operators on the real line whose potentials are comprised of two compactly supported square-integrable functions concatenated according to an element of the Fibonacci substitution subshift over two letters. We show that the Hausdorff dimension of the spectrum tends to one in the small-coupling and high-energy regimes, regardless of the shape of the potential pieces.
We discuss the spectral properties of singular Schrödinger operators in three dimensions with the interaction supported by an equilateral star, finite or infinite. In the finite case the discrete spectrum is nonempty if the star arms are long enough. Our main result concerns spectral optimization: we show that the principal eigenvalue is uniquely maxi\-mized when the arms are arranged in one of the known five sharp configurations known as solutions of the closely related Thomson problem.
This paper summarizes the contents of a plenary talk at the Pan African Congress of Mathematics held in Rabat in July 2017. We provide a survey of recent results on spectral properties of Schrödinger operators with singular interactions supported by manifolds of codimension one and of Robin billiards with the focus on the geometrically induced discrete spectrum and its asymptotic expansions in term of the model parameters.
We prove and apply two theorems: First, a quantitative, scale-free unique continuation estimate for functions in a spectral subspace of a Schrödinger operator on a bounded or unbounded domain, second, a perturbation and lifting estimate for edges of the essential spectrum of a self-adjoint operator under a semi-definite perturbation. These two results are combined to obtain lower and upper Lipschitz bounds on the function parametrizing locally a chosen edge of the essential spectrum of a Schrödinger operator in dependence of a coupling constant. Analogous estimates for eigenvalues, possibly in…
We study fluctuations of polynomial linear statistics for discrete Schrödinger operators with a random decaying potential. We describe a decomposition of the space of polynomials into a direct sum of three subspaces determining the growth rate of the variance of the corresponding linear statistic. In particular, each one of these subspaces defines a unique critical value for the decay-rate exponent, above which the random variable has a limit that is sensitive to the underlying distribution and below which the random variable has asymptotically Gaussian fluctuations.
In this paper we investigate the spectrum and spectrality of the one-dimensional Schrodinger operator with a periodic PT-symmetric complex-valued potential.
We consider perturbations of quasi-periodic Schrödinger operators on the integer lattice with analytic sampling functions by decaying potentials and seek decay conditions under which various spectral properties are preserved. In the (almost) reducibility regime we prove that for perturbations with finite first moment, the essential spectrum remains purely absolutely continuous and the newly created discrete spectrum must be finite in each gap of the unperturbed spectrum. We also prove that for fixed phase, Anderson localization occurring for almost all frequencies in the regime of positive Lya…
