In this paper, we propose a method to approximate the fixed point of an operator in a Banach space. Using biorthogonal systems, this method is applied to build an approximation of the solution of a class of nonlinear partial integro--differential equations. The theoretical findings are illustrated with several numerical examples, confirming the reliability, validity and precision of the proposed method.
We present a sparse spectral method for nonlinear integro-differential Volterra equations based on the Volterra operator's banded sparsity structure when acting on specific Jacobi polynomial bases. The method is not restricted to convolution-type kernels of the form $K(x,y)=K(x-y)$ but instead works for general kernels at competitive speeds and with exponential convergence. We provide various numerical experiments on problems with or without known analytic solutions and comparisons with other methods.
In this paper, we use a numerical method that involves hybrid and block-pulse functions to approximate solutions of systems of a class of Fredholm and Volterra integro-differential equations. The key point is to derive a new approximation for the derivatives of the solutions and then reduce the integro-differential equation to a system of algebraic equations that can be solved using classical methods. Some numerical examples are dedicated for showing efficiency and validity of the method that we introduce.
The aim of the present paper is to introduce a new numerical method for solving nonlinear Volterra integro-differential equations involving delay. We apply trapezium rule to the integral involved in the equation. Further, Daftardar-Gejji and Jafari method (DGJ) is employed to solve the implicit equation. Existence-uniqueness theorem is derived for solutions of such equations and the error and convergence analysis of the proposed method is presented. We illustrate efficacy of the newly proposed method by constructing examples.
A Sinc-Nyström method for Volterra integro-differential equations was developed by Zarebnia in 2010. The method is quite efficient in the sense that exponential convergence can be obtained even if the given problem has endpoint singularity. However, its exponential convergence has not been proved theoretically. In addition, to implement the method, the regularity of the solution is required, although the solution is an unknown function in practice. This paper reinforces the method by presenting two theoretical results: 1) the regularity of the solution is analyzed, and 2) its convergence rate …
We consider the problems of the numerical solution of the Cauchy problem for an evolutionary equation with memory when the kernel of the integral term is a difference one. The computational implementation is associated with the need to work with an approximate solution for all previous points in time. In this paper, the considered nonlocal problem is transformed into a local one; a loosely coupled equation system with additional ordinary differential equations is solved. This approach is based on the approximation of the difference kernel by the sum of exponentials. Estimates for the stability…
In this paper, a two-grid temporal second-order scheme for the two-dimensional nonlinear Volterra integro-differential equation with weakly singular kernel is proposed to reduce the computation time and improve the accuracy of the scheme developed by Xu et al. (Applied Numerical Mathematics 152 (2020) 169-184). The proposed scheme consists of three steps: First, a small nonlinear system is solved on the coarse grid using fix-point iteration. Second, the Lagrange's linear interpolation formula is used to arrive at some auxiliary values for analysis of the fine grid. Finally, a linearized Crank-…
In this work, the z-transform is presented to analyze time-discrete solutions for Volterra integrodifferential equations (VIDEs) with nonsmooth multi-term kernels in the Hilbert space, and this class of continuous problem was first considered and analyzed by Hannsgen and Wheeler (SIAM J Math Anal 15 (1984) 579-594). This work discusses three cases of kernels $β_q(t)$ included in the integrals for the multi-term VIDEs, from which we use corresponding numerical techniques to approximate the solution of multi-term VIDEs in different cases. Firstly, for the case of $β_1(t), β_2(t) \in \mathrm{L}_1…
We consider a fractional order viscoelasticity problem modelled by a power-law type stress relaxation function. This viscoelastic problem is a Volterra integral equation of the second kind with a weakly singular kernel where the convolution integral corresponds to fractional order differentiation/integration. We use a spatial finite element method and a finite difference scheme in time. Due to the weak singularity, fractional order integration in time is managed approximately by linear interpolation so that we can formulate a fully discrete problem. In this paper, we present a stability bound …
In this paper, we study a time-fractional initial-boundary value problem of Kirchhoff type involving memory term for non-homogeneous materials. The energy argument is applied to derive the a priori bounds on the solution of the considered problem. Consequently, we prove the existence and uniqueness of the weak solution to the problem under consideration. We keep the time variable continuous and discretize the space domain using a conforming FEM to obtain the semi discrete formulation of the problem. The semi discrete error analysis is carried out by modifying the standard Ritz-Volterra project…
