We obtained a density-dependent analytical expression of binding energy per nucleon for different neutron-proton asymmetry of the nuclear matter (NM) with a polynomial fitting, which manifests the results of effective field theory motivated relativistic mean-field (E-RMF) model. This expression has the edge over the Br$\ddot{u}$ckner energy density functional [Phys. Rev. {\bf 171}, 1188 (1968)] since it resolves the Coster-Band problem. The NM parameters like incompressibility, neutron pressure, symmetry energy, and its derivatives are calculated using the acquired expression of energy per nucleon. Further, the weight function calculated by E-RMF densities are folded with calculated NM parameters within coherent density fluctuation model to find the properties of closed/semi-closed-shell even-even $^{16}$O, $^{40}$Ca, $^{48}$Ca, $^{56}$Ni, $^{90}$Zr, $^{116}$Sn, and $^{208}$Pb nuclei. The values obtained for the neutron pressure $P^{A}$, symmetry energy $S^{A}$ and its derivative $L_{sym}^A$ known as slope parameter, lie within a narrow domain whereas there is a large variation in isoscalar incompressibility $K^{A}$ and surface incompressibility $K_{sym}^{A}$ while moving from light to heavy nuclei. The sizable variation in $K^{A}$ and $K_{sym}^{A}$ for light and heavy nuclei depicts their structural dependence due to the peculiar density distribution of each nucleus. A comparison of surface quantities calculated in the present work has also been made with ones obtained via Br$\ddot{u}$ckner energy density functional.
All available theoretical estimates of neutrino-induced coherent pion production rely on the 'local approximation' for the Delta propagator. The validity of this approximation is scrutinized. It is found that the local approximation overestimates the neutrino-induced coherent pion production on nuclei significantly, by up to 100%.
We report here an empirical formalism for predicting the cross-sections of neutron-rich nuclei produced in fragmentation of relativistic \b{eta}-unstable neutron-rich projectiles in the mid-mass region. The formalism is based on the abrasion-ablation picture of the projectile fragmentation reaction. It has been shown that the formalism can accurately reproduce the experimental cross-section data for nuclei produced in the fragmentation of 132Sn. The formalism, it is shown, can also reproduce the experimental cross-sections of neutron-rich nuclei produced in the fragmentation of 129Xe fairly ac…
Coherent photoproduction of two neutral pions on the deuteron and ^3He is calculated. The isoscalar and isovector parts of the elementary photoproduction amplitude was determined by fitting the measured total cross section on protons and neutrons. The dependence of the cross section on the isospin of the target nucleus is discussed.
An ab-initio calculation scheme for finite nuclei based on self-consistent Green's functions in the Gorkov formalism is developed. It aims at describing properties of doubly-magic and semi-magic nuclei employing state-of-the-art microscopic nuclear interactions and explicitly treating pairing correlations through the breaking of U(1) symmetry associated with particle number conservation. The present paper introduces the formalism, necessary to undertake applications at (self-consistent) second-order using two-nucleon interactions, in a detailed and self-contained fashion. First applications of…
We describe a model for pion production off nucleons and coherent pions from nuclei induced by neutrinos in the 1 GeV energy regime. Besides the dominant Delta pole contribution, it takes into account the effect of background terms required by chiral symmetry. Moreover, the model uses a reduced nucleon-to-Delta resonance axial coupling, which leads to coherent pion production cross sections around a factor two smaller than most of the previous theoretical estimates. Nuclear effects like medium corrections on the Delta propagator and final pion distortion are included.
The band structure of N=Z nuclei is constructed from intrinsic states defined in terms of quartets. The simplest of these states is a condensate of collective quartets with isospin T=0. The other intrinsic states are built by promoting one quartet of the condensate to an excited T=0 configuration. From these intrinsic states, by angular momentum projection, band structures are generated that approximate well the experimental ones. The projected states also reproduce to a very good extent the spectra resulting from configuration interaction calculations based on the same quartets forming the in…
A correlation is established between the neutron multiplicity and the neutrons number in the fission state of Curium and Californium isotopes within a microscopic study using relativistic mean field formalism. The study includes the isotopes of Cm and Cf nuclei near the valley of stability, and hence is likely to play an important role in the artificial synthesis of superheavy nuclei. The static fission path, the neutron$-$proton asymmetry, the evolution of the neck and their composition in terms of nucleon numbers are also estimated. We find a maximum ratio for average neutron to proton densi…
We derive the values of nuclear symmetry energy, its components, as well as pressure in finite nuclei at saturation density from their corresponding values in nuclear matter obtained in non-relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock calculations with the realistic Bonn B and Bonn CD potentials using the coherent density fluctuation model in the framework of a self-consistent Skyrme-Hartree-Fock plus BCS method. We focus on three isotopic chains of spherical nuclei (Ni, Sn, and Pb) and compare our results with those obtained with an effective Brueckner density-dependent potential. The role of the thre…
Coherent photoproduction of π0η on the deuteron, He3 and He4 nuclei is considered in the energy region from threshold to the lab photon energy 1.2 GeV. The transition amplitude is derived using impulse approximation. Effects of pion absorption are included by means of the Fernbach-Serber-Taylor model. Interaction of the produced η-mesons with the recoiled nucleus is taken into account for the reactions on d and He3. The corresponding ηd and ηHe3 scattering amplitudes are obtained as solutions of the few-body equations for ηNN and η-3N systems. Impact of this interaction on the differential cro…
Supplementing the Liquid Drop Model (LDM) Hamiltonian, written in the intrinsic reference frame, with a sextic oscillator plus a centrifugal term in the variable $β$ and a potential in $γ$ with a minimum in $\fracπ{6}$, the Schödinger equation is separated for the two variables which results in having a new description for the triaxial nuclei, called Sextic and Mathieu Approach (SMA). SMA is applied for two non-axial nuclei, $^{180}$Hf and $^{182}$W and results are compared with those yielded by the Coherent State Model (CSM). As the main result of this paper we derive analytically the equatio…
We study the structural properties of some nuclei in the region of light mass using simple effective interaction in the frame work of microscopic non relativistic Hartree-Fock and relativistic mean field formalism. For the reaction dynamics, well known Glauber model is used with the conjunctions of the densities obtained from these formalism. We observe good agreement of results by both the formalism in comparison to the experimental values. These two different approaches seems to be equally capable to reproduce the ground state properties of nuclei in this region. A careful study of reaction …
Effective charged neutrons involved in one- and two- nucleon tunneling processes in heavy ion collisions between superfluid nuclei are expected to emit photons. Although the centroid, width and integrated energy area characterizing the associated gamma-strength functions are rather similar, the corresponding line shapes reflect the thermal equilibrated-like character of the quasiparticle transfer (1n-channel, blackbody spectral functional dependence), and the quantal coherent character of the Cooper pair transfer (2n-channel, Gaussian functional dependence) respectively. The predicted angular …
We study the isoscalar giant monopole resonance for drip-lines and super heavy nuclei in the frame work of a relativistic mean field theory with scaling approach. The well known extended Thomas-Fermi approximation in the non-linear $σ$-$ω$ model is used to estimate the giant monopole excitation energy for some selected light spherical nuclei starting from the region of proton to neutron drip-lines. The application is extended to super heavy region for Z=114 and 120, which are predicted by several models as the next proton magic number beyond Z=82. We compared the excitation energy obtained by …
Analytical formulas for the excitation energies as well as for the electric quadrupole reduced transition probabilities in the ground, beta and gamma bands were derived within the coherent state model for the near vibrational and well deformed nuclei. Numerical calculations were performed for 42 nuclei exhibiting various symmetries and therefore with specific properties. Comparison of the calculation results with the corresponding experimental data shows a good agreement. The parameters involved in the proposed model satisfy evident regularities being interpolated by smooth curves. Few of them…
We describe the ground state of the isovector pairing Hamiltonian in self-conjugate nuclei by a product of collective quartets of different structure built from two neutrons and two protons coupled to total isospin T=0. The structure of the collective quartets is determined by an iterative variational procedure based on a sequence of diagonalizations of the pairing Hamiltonian in spaces of reduced size. The accuracy of the quartet model is tested for N=Z nuclei carrying valence nucleons outside the $^{16}$O, $^{40}$Ca, and $^{100}$Sn cores. The comparison with the exact solutions of the pairin…
In this theoretical study, we establish a correlation between the neutron skin thickness and the nuclear symmetry energy for the even$-$even isotopes of Fe, Ni, Zn, Ge, Se and Kr within the framework of the axially deformed self-consistent relativistic mean field for the non-linear NL3$^*$ and density-dependent DD-ME1 interactions. The coherent density functional method is used to formulate the symmetry energy, the neutron pressure and the curvature of finite nuclei as a function of the nuclear radius. We have performed broad studies for the mass dependence on the symmetry energy in terms of t…
The behaviors of barrier characteristics and fusion cross sections are analyzed by changing neutron over wide range of colliding systems. For this purpose, we have extended our previous study (Eur. Phys. J. A \textbf{48}, 21 (2012), it is devoted to the colliding systems with neutron-rich nuclei) to 125 isotopic systems with condition of $0.5\leq N/Z \leq 1.6$ for their compound nuclei. The AW 95, Bass 80, Denisov DP and Prox. 2010 potentials are used to calculate the nuclear part of interacting potential. The obtained results show that the trend of barrier heights $V_B$ and positions $R_B$ as…
Isoscalar (T=0,J=1) and isovector (T=1,J=0) pairing correlations in the ground state of self-conjugate nuclei are treated in terms of alpha-like quartets built by two protons and two neutrons coupled to total isospin T=0 and total angular momentum J=0. Quartets are constructed dynamically via an iterative variational procedure and the ground state is represented as a product of such quartets. It is shown that the quartet formalism describes accurately the ground state energies of realistic isovector plus isoscalar pairing Hamiltonians in nuclei with valence particles outside the 16O, 40Ca and …
The structure of the $N=Z$ nucleus $^{28}$Si is studied by resorting to an IBM-type formalism with $s$ and $d$ bosons representing isospin $T=0$ and angular momentum $J=0$ and $J=2$ quartets, respectively. $T=0$ quartets are four-body correlated structures formed by two protons and two neutrons. The microscopic nature of the quartet bosons, meant as images of the fermionic quartets, is investigated by making use of a mapping procedure and is supported by the close resemblance between the phenomenological and microscopically derived Hamiltonians. The ground state band and two low-lying side ban…
The status of realistic calculations of nuclear generalized parton distributions, entering the theoretical description of coherent deeply virtual Compton scattering off nuclei, is reviewed for trinucleons and for $^4$He, also in view of forthcoming measurements at the Jefferson Laboratory and at the future Electron Ion Collider.
Knockout nuclear reactions, in which a nucleon is removed from a nucleus as a result of the collision with another nucleus, have been widely used as an experimental tool, both to populate isotopes further removed from stability, and to obtain information about the single-particle nature of the nuclear spectrum. In order to fully exploit the experimental information, theory is needed for the description of both the structure of the nuclei involved, and the dynamics associated with the nucleon removal mechanisms. The standard approach, using theoretical shell-model spectroscopic factors for the …
Present theoretical investigations aim to explore the fusion characteristics of various isotopes of Z=120 within the relativistic mean-field (RMF) formalism. We predict the most suitable projectile-target combination for the synthesis of element Z=120. The microscopic nucleon-nucleon R3Y interaction and the RMF density distributions for targets and projectiles are used to calculate the nuclear interaction potential using the double folding approach. 17 different projectile-target combinations that allow a high $N$/$Z$ ratio are considered in the present analysis to calculate the capture and/or…
It is pointed out that so far all theoretical estimates of coherent pion production off nuclei induced by neutrinos rely on the 'local approximation' well known in photonuclear physics. The effects of dropping this approximation are discussed. It is found that in a plane wave approximation for the pion the local approximation overestimates the coherent neutrino-induced pion production on nuclei.
The ground state and first intrinsic excited state of superheavy nuclei with Z=120 and N=160-204 are investigated using both non-relativistic Skyrme-Hartree-Fock and the axially deformed Relativistic Mean Field formalisms. We employ a simple BCS pairing approach for calculating the energy contribution from pairing interaction. The results for isotopic chain of binding energy, quadrupole deformation parameter, two neutron separation energies and some other observables are compared with the FRDM and some recent macroscopic-microscopic calculations. We predict superdeformed ground state solutions…
The density-dependent nuclear symmetry energy is directly related to the isospin asymmetry for finite and infinite nuclear systems. It is critical to determine the coefficients of symmetry energy and its related observables as it holds great importance in different areas of nuclear physics, such as analyzing the structure of ground state exotic nuclei and neutron star study. The ground state bulk properties such as nuclear binding energy, quadrupole deformation, two-neutron separation energy, the differential variation of two-neutron separation energy, and root-mean-square charge radius for Sc…
An extensive study of $α$-decay half-lives for various decay chains of isotopes of $Z$ = 120 is performed within the axially deformed relativistic mean-field (RMF) formalism by employing the NL3, NL3$^*$, and DD-ME2 parameter set. The structural properties of the nuclei appearing in the decay chains are explored. The binding energy, quadrupole deformation parameter, root-mean-square charge radius, and pairing energy are calculated for the even-even isotopes of $Z$ = 100 $-$ 120, which are produced in five different $α$-decay chains, namely, $^{296}$120 $\rightarrow$ $^{260}$No, $^{298}$120 $\r…
In this work, we present a new version of the Bohr collective Hamiltonian for triaxial nuclei within Deformation-Dependent Mass formalism (DDM) using the Hulthén potential. We shall call the developed model Z(5)-HD. Analytical expressions for energy spectra are derived by means of the recent version of the Asymptotic Iteration Method. The calculated numerical results of energies and B(E2) transition rates are compared with the experimental data, and several theoretical results from Z(5) model, the model Z(5)-H using the Hulthén potential without DDM formalism as well as theoretical predictions…
The study of nuclear and subnuclear structure by means of photon scattering is outlined. Besides a brief exposition of the formalism a few illustrative examples are discussed.
The differential cross sections of the forward coherent $ω$ and $ϕ$ mesons photoproduction from nuclei have been calculated using the Glauber model for the nuclear reaction. The measured cross section of the elementary reaction, i.e., $γN \to ω(ϕ) N$ reaction, are used as input in the Glauber model. The experimentally determined free-space scattering parameters of the quoted mesons have been used to evaluate the meson nucleus interactions. The sensitivity of the cross section to the Fermi-motion of the nucleon and the nucleon-nucleon short-range correlation in the nucleus are studied. The calc…
In this work, we solve the eigenvalues problem with the Bohr collective Hamiltonian for triaxial nuclei within Deformation-Dependent Mass formalism (DDM) using the Hulthén potential. We shall call the solution developed here Z(5)-HDDM. Analytical expressions for energy spectra are derived by means of a recent version of the Asymptotic Iteration Method. The calculated numerical results are compared with the experimental data, and the model Z(5)-H using the Hulthén potential without DDM formalism as well as theoretical predictions of Z(5)-DDDM model with Davidson potential.
The structure of Ne, Na, Mg, Al, Si and S nuclei near the neutron drip-line region is investigated in the frame-work of relativistic meannfield (RMF) and non-relativistic Skyrme Hartree-Fock formalisms. The drip-line of these nuclei are pointed out. We analysed the large deformation structures and many of these neutron rich nuclei are quite deformed. New magic number are seen for these deformed nuclei.
The model of coherent quadrupole and octupole motion (CQOM) is applied to describe non-yrast split parity-doublet spectra in odd-mass nuclei. The yrast levels are described as low-energy rotation-vibration modes coupled to the ground single-particle (s.p.) state, while the non-yrast parity-doublet structures are obtained as higher-energy rotation-vibration modes coupled to excited s.p. states. It is shown that the extended model scheme describes both the yrast and non-yrast quasi parity-doublet spectra and the related B(E1) and B(E2) transition rates in different regions of heavy odd-A nuclei.…
The isoscalar proton-neutron pairing and isovector pairing, including both isovector proton-neutron pairing and like-particle pairing, are treated in a formalism which conserves exactly the particle number and the isospin. The formalism is designed for self-conjugate (N=Z) systems of nucleons moving in axially deformed mean fields and interacting through the most general isovector and isoscalar pairing interactions. The ground state of these systems is described by a superposition of two types of condensates, i.e., condensates of isovector quartets, built by two isovector pairs coupled to the …
The effects of the nuclear structure uncertainties on the description of processes induced by coherent scattering of neutrinos on nuclei are investigated. A reference calculation based on a specific nuclear model is defined and the cross sections and also the expected number of events produced by neutrinos generated by the explosion of a supernova in our galaxy, and by a spallation neutron source are evaluated. By changing the input parameters of the reference calculation their relevance on cross sections and on the number of the detected events is estimated. Seven spherical nuclei with differ…
Finding the best model to describe the α-decay process is an old and ongoing challenge in nuclear physics. The present work systematically studied α-decay half-lives for the favored ground-state-to-ground-state transitions of 344 isotopes of nuclei with 52 <= Z <= 107 using 28 versions of the proximity potential model in the framework of the WKB approximation. The present study introduces the best proximity versions with the fewest deviations with respect to experimental values. The models for Prox. 77-set 4, Prox. 77-set 5, and Dutt 2011 with the root-mean-square deviations (RMSDs) of <1 were…
The neutron distribution of neutron-rich nuclei provides critical information on the structure of finite nuclei and neutron stars. Parity violating experiments -- such as PREX and CREX -- provide a clean and largely model-independent determination of neutron densities. Such experiments, however, are challenging and expensive which is why sound statistical arguments are required to maximize the information gained. For this goal we introduce a new framework, "the transfer function formalism", aimed at uncertainty quantification, model selection, and experimental design in the context of neutron …
Isospin symmetry of atomic nuclei is explicitly broken by the charge-dependent interactions, primarily the Coulomb force. Within the nuclear density functional theory, isospin is also broken spontaneously. We propose a projection scheme rooted in a mean field theory, that allows the consistent treatment of isospin breaking in both ground and exited nuclear states. We demonstrate that this scheme is essentially free from spurious divergences plaguing particle-number and angular-momentum restoration approaches. Applications of the new technique include excited high-spin states in medium-mass N=Z…
