We show quantitative stability results for the geometric "cells" arising in semi-discrete optimal transport problems. Our results show two types of stability, the first is stability of the associated Laguerre cells in measure, without any connectedness or regularity assumptions on the source measure. The second is stability in Hausdorff measure, under a Poincar{è}-Wirtinger inequality and a regularity assumption equivalent to the Ma-Trudinger-Wang conditions of regularity in Monge-Amp{è}re. This last result also yields stability in the uniform norm of the dual potential functions, all three stability results come with explicit quantitative bounds. Our methods utilize a combination of graph theory, convex geometry, and Monge-Amp{è}re regularity theory.
This paper gives a spectral approach to time asymptotics of collisionless transport semi-groups with general diffuse boundary operators. The strong stability of the invariant density is derived from the classical Ingham theorem. A recent quantitative version of this theorem provides algebraic rates of convergence to equilibrium.
We study the stability of entropically regularized optimal transport with respect to the marginals. Lipschitz continuity of the value and Hölder continuity of the optimal coupling in $p$-Wasserstein distance are obtained under general conditions including quadratic costs and unbounded marginals. The results for the value extend to regularization by an arbitrary divergence. As an application, we show convergence of Sinkhorn's algorithm in Wasserstein sense, including for quadratic cost. Two techniques are presented: The first compares an optimal coupling with its so-called shadow, a coupling in…
Fluorescence photoacoustic tomography (fPAT) is a molecular imaging modality that combines photoacoustic tomography (PAT) with fluorescence imaging to obtain high-resolution imaging of fluorescence distributions inside heterogeneous media. The objective of this work is to study inverse problems in the quantitative step of fPAT where we intend to reconstruct physical coefficients in a coupled system of radiative transport equations using internal data recovered from ultrasound measurements. We derive uniqueness and stability results on the inverse problems and develop some efficient algorithms …
In recent works - both experimental and theoretical - it has been shown how to use computational geometry to efficently construct approximations to the optimal transport map between two given probability measures on Euclidean space, by discretizing one of the measures. Here we provide a quantative convergence analysis for the solutions of the corresponding discretized Monge-Ampère equations. This yields L^{2}-converge rates, in terms of the corresponding spatial resolution h, of the discrete approximations of the optimal transport map, when the source measure is discretized and the target meas…
We present some progress in the direction of determining the semiclassical limit of the Hoenberg-Kohn universal functional in Density Functional Theory for Coulomb systems. In particular we give a proof of the fact that for Bosonic systems with an arbitrary number of particles the limit is the multimarginal optimal transport problem with Coulomb cost and that the same holds for Fermionic systems with 2 or 3 particles. Comparisons with previous results are reported . The approach is based on some techniques from the optimal transportation theory.

We give a new and constructive proof of the existence of global-in-time weak solutions of the 3-dimensional incompressible semi-geostrophic equations (SG) in geostrophic coordinates, for arbitrary initial measures with compact support. This new proof, based on semi-discrete optimal transport techniques, works by characterising discrete solutions of SG in geostrophic coordinates in terms of trajectories satisfying an ordinary differential equation. It is advantageous in its simplicity and its explicit relation to Eulerian coordinates through the use of Laguerre tessellations. Using our method, …
We propose a unified method for the large space-time scaling limit of \emph{linear} collisional kinetic equations in the whole space. The limit is of \emph{fractional} diffusion type for heavy tail equilibria with slow enough decay, and of diffusive type otherwise. The proof is constructive and the fractional/standard diffusion matrix is obtained. The method combines energy estimates and quantitative spectral methods to construct a `fluid mode'. The method is applied to scattering models (without assuming detailed balance conditions), Fokker-Planck operators and L{é}vy-Fokker-Planck operators.…
Quantitative image reconstruction in photoacoustic tomography requires the solution of a coupled physics inverse problem involvier light transport and acoustic wave propagation. In this paper we address this issue employing the radiative transfer equation as accurate model for light transport. As main theoretical results, we derive several stability and uniqueness results for the linearized inverse problem. We consider the case of single illumination as well as the case of multiple illuminations assuming full or partial data. The numerical solution of the linearized problem is much less costly…
In this paper we present a two-stage algorithm to solve the semi-discrete Optimal Transport Problem in the case where the support of the source measure is disconnected. We establish global linear convergence and local superlinear convergence. We also find convergence of the associated Laguerre cells in the vein of \cite{BansilKitagawa19b}.
Motivated by applications in quantitative photoacoustic imaging, we study inverse problems to a semilinear radiative transport equation (RTE) where we intend to reconstruct absorption coefficients in the equation from single and multiple internal data sets. We derive uniqueness and stability results for the inverse transport problem in the absence of scattering (in which case we also derive some explicit reconstruction methods) and in the presence of known scattering.
The photoacoustic tomography (PAT) is a hybrid modality that combines the optics and acoustics to obtain high resolution and high contrast imaging of heterogeneous media. In this work, our objective is to study the inverse problem in the quantitative step of PAT which aims to reconstruct the optical coefficients of the governing radiative transport equation from the ultrasound measurements. In our analysis, we take the simplified $P_N$ approximation of the radiative transport equation as the physical model and then show the uniqueness and stability for this modified inverse problem. Numerical …
We introduce and prove convergence of a damped Newton algorithm to approximate solutions of the semi-discrete optimal transport problem with storage fees, corresponding to a problem with hard capacity constraints. This is a variant of the optimal transport problem arising in queue penalization problems, and has applications to data clustering. Our result is novel as it is the first numerical method with proven convergence for this variant problem; additionally the algorithm applies to the classical semi-discrete optimal transport problem but does not require any connectedness assumptions on th…
In this paper we consider a scalar transport equation with constant coefficients on domains with discrete space and continuous, discrete or general time. We show that on all these underlying domains solutions of the transport equation can conserve sign and integrals both in time and space. Detailed analysis reveals that, under some initial conditions, the solutions correspond to counting stochastic processes and related probability distributions. Consequently, the transport equation could generate various modifications of these processes and distributions and provide some insights into corresp…
