Our objective is to study the observability and unique continuation property of the adjoint of a linearized compressible fluid structure interaction model in a 2D channel. Concerning the structure we will consider a damped Euler-Bernoulli beam located on a portion of the boundary. In the present article we establish an observability inequality for the adjoint of the linearized fluid structure interaction problem under consideration which in principle is equivalent with the null controllability of the linearized system. As a corollary of the derived observability inequality we also obtain a unique continuation property for the adjoint problem.
This paper presents a unique continuation estimate for 2-D Stokes equations with the Naiver slip boundary condition in a bounded and simply connected domain. Consequently, an observability estimate for this equation from a subset of positive measure in time follows from the aforementioned unique continuation estimate and the new strategy developed in [16]. Several applications of the above-mentioned observability estimate to control problems of the Stokes equations are given.
In this paper, we obtain a quantitative estimate of unique continuation and an observability inequality from an equidistributed set for solutions of the diffusion equation in the whole space RN. This kind of observability indicates that the total energy of solutions can be controlled by the energy localized in a measurable subset, which is equidistributed over the whole space. The proof of our results is based on an interesting reduction method [18, 22], as well as the propagation of smallness for the gradient of solutions to elliptic equations [24].
We prove in this Note an observation estimate at one point in time for the Kolmogorov equation in the whole space. Such estimate implies the observability and the null controllability for the Kolmogorov equation with a control region which is sufficiently spread out throughout the whole space.
In this paper, we derive several new sufficient conditions of non-breakdown of strong solutions for for both the 3D heat-conducting compressible Navier-Stokes system and nonhomogeneous incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. First, it is shown that there exists a positive constant $\varepsilon$ such that the solution $(ρ,u,θ)$ to full compressible Navier-Stokes equations can be extended beyond $t=T$ provided that one of the following two conditions holds (1) $ρ\in L^{\infty}(0,T;L^{\infty}(\mathbb{R}^{3}))$, $u\in L^{p,\infty}(0,T;L^{q,\infty}(\mathbb{R}^{3}))$ and $$\| u\|_{L^{p,\infty}(0,T;L…
In this paper, we establish a globally quantitative estimate of unique continuation at one time point for solutions of parabolic equations with Neumann boundary conditions in bounded domains. Our proof is mainly based on Carleman commutator estimates and a global frequency function argument, which is motivated from a recent work [5]. As an application, we obtain an observability inequality from measurable sets in time for all solutions of the above equations.

We establish a unique continuation property for stochastic heat equations evolving in a bounded domain $G$. Our result shows that the value of the solution can be determined uniquely by means of its value on an arbitrary open subdomain of $G$ at any given positive time constant. Further, when $G$ is convex and bounded, we also give a quantitative version of the unique continuation property. As applications, we get an observability estimate for stochastic heat equations, an approximate result and a null controllability result for a backward stochastic heat equation.
We study uncertainty principles for function classes on the torus. The classes are defined in terms of spectral subspaces of the energy or the momentum, respectively. In our main theorems, the support of the Fourier transform of the considered functions is allowed to be supported in a (finite number of) parallelepipeds. The estimates we obtain do not depend on the size of the torus and the position of the parallelepipeds, but only on their size and number, and the density and scale of the observability set. Our results are on the one hand closely related to unique continuation for linear combi…
We prove a scale-free, quantitative unique continuation principle for functions in the range of the spectral projector $χ_{(-\infty,E]}(H_L)$ of a Schrödinger operator $H_L$ on a cube of side $L\in \mathbb{N}$, with bounded potential. Such estimates are also called, depending on the context, uncertainty principles, observability estimates, or spectral inequalities. We apply it to (i) prove a Wegner estimate for random Schrödinger operators with non-linear parameter-dependence and to (ii) exhibit the dependence of the control cost on geometric model parameters for the heat equation in a multi-s…
In this paper, we study the simultaneous controllability of wave systems in an open domain of R d , d $\in$ N *. We obtain a partial controllability result on a co-finite dimensional space for wave equations coupled by a single control function. We use microlocal defect measures and the unique continuation property of eigenfunctions to prove that an appropriate observability inequality holds for wave equations with space varying and different speeds coupled by a single control function. For the unique continuation property of eigenfunctions, we construct a counterexample to show that in some m…
The aim of this article is to study the limiting behavior of the solutions for the scaled generalized Euler equations of compressible fluid flow. When the initial data is of Riemann type, we showed the existence of solution which consists of shock waves and rarefaction waves and that the distributional limit of the solutions for this system converges to the solution of a non-strictly hyperbolic system, called one dimensional model for large scale structure formation of universe as the scaling parameter vanishes. An explicit entropy and entropy flux pair are also constructed for the particular …
Global weak solutions and incompressible limit to the isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations in 2D bounded domains with ripped density and large initial data
This paper is a continuation of the works in \cite{Euler} and \cite{NS}, where the authors have established the global existence of smooth compressible flows in infinitely expanding balls for inviscid gases and viscid gases, respectively. In this paper, we are concerned with the global existence and large time behavior of compressible Boltzmann gases in an infinitely expanding ball. Such a problem is one of the interesting models in studying the theory of global smooth solutions to multidimensional compressible gases with time dependent boundaries and vacuum states at infinite time. Due to the…
This paper studies the dissipative structure of the system of equations that describes the motion of a compressible, isothermal, viscous-capillar fluid of Korteweg type in one space dimension. It is shown that the system satisfies the genuine coupling condition of Humpherys (J. Hyperbolic Differ. Equ. 2, 2005, no. 4, 963-974), which is, in turn, an extension to higher order systems of the classical condition by Kawashima and Shizuta (Tohoku Math. J. 40, 1988, no. 3, 449-464; Hokkaido Math. J. 14, 1985, no. 2, 249-275) for second order systems. It is proved that genuine coupling implies the dec…
The present paper is the continuation of work \cite{XC}, devoted to extending it to a critical functional framework which is not related to the energy space. Employing the special dissipative structure of the non-conservative viscous compressible two-fluid model with capillarity effects, we first exploit the maximal regularity estimates for the corresponding linearized system in all frequencies which behaves like the heat equation. Then we construct the global well-posedness for the multi-dimensional model when the initial data are close to a stable equilibrium state in the sense of suitable $…
We consider elliptic differential operators on either the entire Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^d$ or on subsets consisting of a cube $Λ_L$ of integer length $L$. For eigenfunctions of the operator, and more general solutions of elliptic differential quations, we derive several quantitative unique continuation results. The first result is of local nature and estimates the vanishing order of a solution. The second is a sampling result and compares the $L^2$-norm of a solution over a union of equidistributed $δ$-balls in space with the $L^2$-norm on the entire space. In the case where the space $\m…
Consider the dynamics of a gas bubble in an inviscid, compressible liquid with surface tension. Kinematic and dynamic boundary conditions couple the bubble surface deformation dynamics with the dynamics of waves in the fluid. This system has a spherical equilibrium state, resulting from the balance of the pressure at infinity and the gas pressure within the bubble. We study the linearized dynamics about this equilibrium state in a center of mass frame: 1) We prove that the velocity potential and bubble surface perturbation satisfy point-wise in space exponential time-decay estimates. 2) The ti…
In this article, we study the boundary null-controllability properties of the one-dimensional linearized (around $(Q_0,V_0)$ with constants $Q_0>0, V_0>0$) compressible Navier-Stokes equations in the interval $(0,1)$ when a control function is acting either on the density or velocity component at one end of the interval. We first prove that the linearized system, with a Dirichlet boundary control on the density component and homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions on the velocity component, is null-controllable in $H^s_{per}(0,1) \times L^2(0,1)$ for any $s > 1/2$ provided the time $T > 1$, …
