We show that (1) the Einstein field equations with a perfect fluid source admit a nonlinear superposition of two distinct homogenous Friedman-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) metrics as a solution, (2) the superposed solution is an inhomogeneous geometry in general, (3) it reduces to a homogeneous one in the two asymptotes which are the early and the late stages of the universe as described by two different FLRW metrics, (4) the solution possesses a scale factor inversion symmetry and (5) the solution implies two kinds of topology changes: one during the time evolution of the superposed universe and the other occurring in the asymptotic region of space.
We investigate the holographic complexity growth rate of a conformal field theory in a FLRW universe. We consider two ways to realize a FLRW spacetime from an Anti-de Sitter Schwarzschild geometry. The first one is obtained by introducing a new foliation of the Schwarzschild geometry such that the conformal boundary takes the FLRW form. The other one is to consider a brane universe moving in the Schwarzschild background. For each case, we compute the complexity growth rate in a closed universe and a flat universe by using both the complexity-volume and complexity-action dualities. We find that…
This paper provides an analytical treatment of accelerated and geodesic motion within the framework of the Friedmann -Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) spacetime. By employing conformal time transformations we manage to convert second order differential equations of motion in FLRW spacetime to first order equations in the conformally transformed spacetime. This allows us to derive a general analytical solution in closed-form for accelerated motion in spatially curved FLRW spacetime. We provide few examples of this general solution for the spatially flat cases. The last part of our work focuses …
We investigate the FLRW type cosmology of the Induced Dark Energy model and illustrate that the extra terms emerging from the fifth dimension can play the role of dark energy. The model predicts the expansion with deceleration at early time and acceleration in late time for an open universe.
By means of a semiclassical analysis we show that the trace anomaly does not affect the cosmological constant. We calculate the evolution of the Hubble parameter in quasi de Sitter spacetime, where the Hubble parameter varies slowly in time, and in FLRW spacetimes. We show dynamically that a Universe consisting of matter with a constant equation of state, a cosmological constant and the quantum trace anomaly evolves either to the classical de Sitter attractor or to a quantum trace anomaly driven one. There is no dynamical effect that influences the effective value of the cosmological constant.
We introduce the formalism of quantum cosmology in a Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) universe of arbitrary dimension filled with a perfect fluid with $p=αρ$ equation of state. First we show that the Schutz formalism, developed in four dimensions, can be extended to a n-dimensional universe. We compute the quantum representant of the scale factor $a(t)$, in the Many-Worlds, as well as, in the de Broglie-Bohm interpretation of quantum mechanics. We show that the singularities, which are still present in the n-dimensional generalization of FLRW universe, are excluded with the introduct…
It has been argued that there are no islands in FLRW cosmologies with $Λ>0$ and $k=0$ arXiv:2008.01022. We argue that there is a timelike separated island at the initial singularity, and it will resolve the cosmological information paradox. The information about the particles that went beyond the horizon is not lost for our observer. By measuring Hawking radiation, we can get that information from the past when those particles were near the initial singularity. Similar to how islands inside black holes violate locality, we observe a violation of causality or noncausality but only at the initia…
It was recently pointed out that linear quantum fields $\hat ϕ(x)$ can be meaningfully propagated across the big bang (and the big crunch) singularities of spatially flat Friedmann, Lemaître, Robertson, Walker (FLRW) universes \cite{ADLS2021}. Recall that $\hat ϕ(x)$, as well as renormalized observables $\langle\hat ϕ(x)^2 \rangle_{ren}$ and $\langle \hat T_{ab}(x)\rangle_{ren}$, are distribution-valued already in Minkowskian quantum field theories. It was shown that they can be extended as well-defined distributions even when these space-times are enlarged to include the big-bang (or the big …
While the use of numerical general relativity for modeling astrophysical phenomena and compact objects is commonplace, the application to cosmological scenarios is only just beginning. Here, we examine the expansion of a spacetime using the Baumgarte-Shapiro-Shibata-Nakamura (BSSN) formalism of numerical relativity in synchronous gauge. This work represents the first numerical cosmological study that is fully relativistic, non-linear and without symmetry. The universe that emerges exhibits an average Friedmann-Lemaïtre-Robertston-Walker (FLRW) behavior, however this universe also exhibits loca…
Particle creation has been considered as a possible justification for the accelerated expansion of the universe, obeying the second law of thermodynamics, together with the possible existence of Dark Energy. This paper introduces the possibility that the destruction of baryonic and/or dark matter particles also verifies the second law of thermodynamics thanks to a particle exchange with dark energy. General equations for the variation of the number of particles in accelerated universes have been obtained. Finally, a new model of the universe has been developed which predicts dark energy proper…
In this report, we discuss the behavior of coordinate-time dependent lapse function of FLRW metric of an accelerated expanding universe in the de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley massive gravity theory. We find for the conventional dRGT formalism the corresponding lapse function can exhibit unphysical behaviors in the associated parameter space with a negative cosmological-constant-like term that leads to the decelerated universe model. To solve this problem, we introduce the so-called cosmological background density parameter to the perfect fluid stress-energy tensor which induces negative pressure. It …
We have developed an accelerating cosmological model for the present universe which is phantom for the period $ (0 \leq z \leq 1.99)$ and quintessence phase for $(1.99 \leq z \leq 2.0315)$. The universe is assumed to be filled with barotropic and dark energy(DE) perfect fluid in which DE interact with matter. For a deceleration parameter(DP) having decelerating-accelerating transition phase of universe, we assume hybrid expansion law for scale factor. The transition red shift for the model is obtained as $z_t = 0.956$. The model satisfies current observational constraints.
This work was mainly driven by the desire to explore, to what extent embedding some given geometry in a higher dimensional flat one is useful for understanding the causal structure of classical fields traveling in the former, in terms of that in the latter. We point out, in the 4D spatially flat FLRW universe, that the causal structure of transverse-traceless (TT) gravitational waves can be elucidated by first reducing the problem to a 2D Minkowski wave equation with a time dependent potential, where the relevant Green's function is pure tail -- waves produced by a physical source propagate st…
This work aims to study consequences of \textit{combined variable field theory} developed in [1] by analysing FLRW models of gravity. It shows $Φ_{q \rightarrow 0} \rightarrow \infty$ is the Big bang in combined variable field theoretic settings. Nature of the Universe depends on the new parameter $k$ appearing in the theory. Flat Universe has two disconnected branches namely expanding and collapsing Universe. Combined variable field for closed Universe is complex in general. Whereas, the theory of open Universe is necessarily self-coupled combined variable field theory. But in the large $r$ l…
We propose a method of projecting the quantum states from a state space of a given geometry into another state space generated by a different geometry, taking care on the correct normalization which is crucial in interpreting the quantum theory. Thanks to this method we can define on any spatially flat FLRW spacetime states in which genuine Minkowskian parameters are measured. We use these Minkowskian states for separating the frequencies in the rest frames of the massive scalar particles defining thus the scalar rest frame vacuum. We show that this vacuum is stable on the de Sitter expanding …
In the context of the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity the concept of gravitational pressure and gravitational energy-momentum arisen in a natural way. In the case of a Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker space FLRW we obtain the total energy contained inside the apparent horizon and the radial pressure over the apparent horizon area. We use these definitions to written a thermodynamics relation $T_{A}dS_{A} = dE_{A}+P_{A}dV_{A}$ at the apparent horizon, where $E_{A}$ is the total energy inside the apparent horizon, $V_{A}$ is the areal volume of the apparent horizon, $P_{A}$ is t…
We present a (hopefully) novel calculation of the vacuum energy in expanding FLRW spacetimes based on the renormalization of quantum field theory in non-zero backgrounds. We compute the renormalized effective action up to the $2-$point function and then apply the formalism to the cosmological backgrounds of interest. As an example we calculate for quasi de Sitter spacetimes the leading correction to the vacuum energy given by the tadpole diagram and show that it behaves as $\sim H_0^2 Λ_{\rm pl}$ where $H_0$ is the Hubble constant and $Λ_{\rm pl}$ is the Planck constant. This is of the same or…
We study the dissipation of oscillating scalar backgrounds in a spatially flat Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker universe using non-equilibrium quantum field theory. To be concrete, a $Z_2$-symmetric two-scalar model with quartic interactions is used. For quasi-harmonic oscillations, we adopt the multi-scale analysis to obtain analytical approximate expressions for the evolution of the scalar background in terms of the retarded self-energy and retarded proper four-vertex function. Different from the case in flat spacetime, we find that in an expanding universe the condensate decay in this mo…
This paper examines the properties of `lattice universes' wherein point masses are arranged in a regular lattice on space-like hypersurfaces; open, flat, and closed universes are considered. The universes are modelled using the Lindquist-Wheeler (LW) approximation scheme, which approximates the space-time in each lattice cell by Schwarz\-schild geometry. Extending Lindquist and Wheeler's work, we derive cosmological scale factors describing the evolution of all three types of universes, and we use these scale factors to show that the universes' dynamics strongly resemble those of Friedmann-Lem…
Extremely well! In the $Λ$CDM model, the spacetime metric, $g_{ab}$, of our universe is approximated by an FLRW metric, $g_{ab}^{(0)}$, to about 1 part in $10^4$ or better on both large and small scales, except in the immediate vicinity of very strong field objects, such as black holes. However, derivatives of $g_{ab}$ are not close to derivatives of $g_{ab}^{(0)}$, so there can be significant differences in the behavior of geodesics and huge differences in curvature. Consequently, observable quantities in the actual universe may differ significantly from the corresponding observables in the F…
Quantum cosmology of the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker model with cosmological constant in the Ho$\check{\rm r}$ava-Lifshitz type gravity is studied in the phase space by means of the Wigner function. The modification of the usual general relativity description by the Ho$\check{\rm r}$ava-Lifshitz type gravity induces a new scenario for the origin of the Universe with an embryonic era where the Universe can exist classically before the tunneling process takes place and which gives rise to the current evolution of the Universe. The Wigner functions corresponding to the Hartle-Hawking, Vil…
In this paper, we investigate the homogeneous and isotropic flat FLRW Universe in the logarithmic form of $f\left( Q\right) $ gravity, where $% Q $ is the non-metricity scalar, specifically, $f\left( Q\right) =α+β\log \left( Q\right) $, where $α$ and $β$ are free model parameters. In this study, we consider a parametrization of the Hubble parameter as $H\left( z\right) =η\left[ (z+1)^{-γ}+1\right] $, where $γ$ and $η$ are model/free parameters which are constrained by an $R^{2}$-test from 57 points of the Hubble datasets in the redshift range $0.07<z<2.36$. Further, we investigate the physical…
Our aim, in this paper, is to study the generalized second law by considering the dynamical apparent horizon to be endowed with the Hawking temperature and the Viaggiu entropy introduced in a pioneering work in 2014. We have devoted our attention to a flat FLRW universe filled with a perfect fluid having a constant equation of state $p = wρ$. It is worthwhile to note that we have considered both forms of the Hawking temperature, the original one as well as the truncated version. The latter one is generally used during calculations, however, several arguments have been put forward against it. O…
We use phase space method to study possible consequences of fixed points in flat FLRW models. One of these consequences is that a fluid with a finite sound speed, or a differentiable pressure, reaches a fixed point in an infinite time and has no finite-time singularities of types I, II and III described in hep-th/0501025. It is impossible for such a fluid to cross the phantom divide in a finite time. We show that a divergent $dp/dH$, or a speed of sound is necessary but not sufficient condition for phantom crossing. We use pressure properties, such as asymptotic behavior and fixed points, to q…
Contrarily to general believe, a first-order cosmological perturbation theory based on Einstein's General Theory of Relativity explains the formation of massive primeval stars in a flat Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker universe after decoupling of matter and radiation, whether or not Cold Dark Matter is present. The growth rate of a density perturbation depends on the heat loss of a perturbation during the contraction, but is independent of the particle mass. The relativistic Jeans mass does depend on the particle mass. If the Cold Dark Matter particle mass is equal to the proton mass, then…
We construct an extension of standard flat FLRW cosmology with matter, possessing local D = 1, N = 1 proper-time supersymmetry. The fundamental equation for the resulting mini-superspace models of quantum universes is a Dirac-like analogue of the Friedmann and Wheeler-DeWitt equations. We provide solutions of this equation for specific matter configurations based on the supersymmetric O(3) and O(2, 1) sigma-models. It turns out that in the compact model the volume rate of growth of the universe is quantized and non-vanishing due to the zero-point energy of the scalar fields. In the non-compact…
Higher dimensional closed Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) universe with positive cosmological constant is investigated by Regge calculus. A Cauchy surface of discretized FLRW universe is replaced by a regular polytope in accordance with the Collins-Williams (CW) formalism. Polytopes in an arbitrary dimensions can be systematically dealt with by a set of five integers integrating the Schläfli symbol of the polytope. Regge action in continuum time limit is given. It possesses reparameterization invariance of the time variable. Variational principle for edge lengths and struts yields H…
The tension between early and late Universe probes of the Hubble constant has motivated various new FLRW cosmologies. Here, we reanalyse the Hubble tension with a recent age of the Universe constraint. This allows us to restrict attention to matter and a dark energy sector that we treat without assuming a specific model. Assuming analyticity of the Hubble parameter $H(z)$, and a generic low redshift modification to flat $Λ$CDM, we find that low redshift data ($z \lesssim 2.5$) and well-motivated priors only permit a dark energy sector close to the cosmological constant $Λ$. This restriction ru…
The Friedman-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) cosmological models are based on the assumptions of large-scale homogeneity and isotropy of the distribution of matter and energy. They are usually taken to have spatial sections that are simply connected; they have finite volume in the positive curvature case, and infinite volume in the null and negative curvature ones. I want to call the attention to the existence of an infinite number of models, which are based on these same metrics, but have compact, finite volume, multiply connected spatial sections. Some observational implications are briefly…
It is shown that the decomposition theorems of York, Stewart and Walker for symmetric spatial second-rank tensors, such as the perturbed metric tensor and perturbed Ricci tensor, and the spatial fluid velocity vector imply that, for open, flat or closed Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker universes, there are exactly two, unique, independent gauge-invariant quantities which describe the true, physical perturbations to the energy density and particle number density. Using these two new quantities, evolution equations for cosmological density perturbations and for entropy perturbations, adapted …
We have analyzed the Barrow holographic dark energy (BHDE) in the framework of the flat FLRW Universe by considering the various estimations of Barrow exponent $\triangle$. Here we define BHDE, by applying the usual holographic principle at a cosmological system, for utilizing the Barrow entropy rather than the standard Bekenstein-Hawking. To understand the recent accelerated expansion of the universe, considering the Hubble horizon as the IR cut-off. The cosmological parameters, especially the density parameter ($Ω_{_D}$), the equation of the state parameter ($ω_{_D}$), energy density ($ρ_{_{…
We study the loop quantum cosmology of a flat Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker space-time with a Maxwell field. We show that many of the qualitative properties derived for the case of a massless scalar field also hold for a Maxwell field. In particular, the big-bang singularity is replaced by a quantum bounce, and the operator corresponding to the matter energy density is bounded above by the same critical energy density. We also numerically study the evolution of wave functions that are sharply peaked in the low energy regime, and derive effective equations which very closely approximate t…
This paper presents a compelling argument for the physical light speed in the Friedman-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) universe to vary with the cosmic time coordinate "t" of FLRW. It must be variable when the radial comoving differential coordinates of FLRW is interpreted as physical and therefore transformable by a Lorentz transform locally to differentials of stationary physical coordinates. Because the FLRW differential radial distance has a time varying coefficient a(t), integration of the transformed differentials to obtain stationary coordinates for a short radial distance requires the…
In this manuscript, we present a number of fascinating explicit reconstructions for the $f(Q)$ gravity from the background of Friedmann-Laîmatre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) evolution history. We find the more general functions of non-metricity scalar $Q$ that admit exact $Λ$CDM expansion history. Adding extra degrees of freedom to the matter sector is the only method to get the scale factor to behave in this manner for more generic functions of $Q$. In addition, a cosmological reconstruction for modified $f(Q)$ gravity is constructed in terms of e-folding. It is shown how any FLRW cosmology can ar…
How does inhomogeneity affect our interpretation of cosmological observations? It has long been wondered to what extent the observable properties of an inhomogeneous universe differ from those of a corresponding Friedman-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) model, and how the inhomogeneities affect that correspondence. Here, we use numerical relativity to study the behavior of light beams traversing an inhomogeneous universe and construct the resulting Hubble diagrams. The universe that emerges exhibits an average FLRW behavior, but inhomogeneous structures contribute to deviations in observables …
