Gravitational lensing caused by the gravitational field of massive objects has been studied and acknowledged for a long period of time. In this paper, however, we propose a different mechanism where the bending of light stems from the non-linear interaction of gravitational, electromagnetic and axion waves that creates the high curvature zone in the space-time fabric. The striking distinction in the present study is that in contrast to the convex lensing in the gravitational field of a massive object, hyperbolic nature of the high curvature zone of the background space-time may give rise to concave lensing. Expectedly detection of this kind of lensing becomes possible through satellite detectors.
Rotating and twisting locally rotationally symmetric imperfect fluids in general relativity admit a much larger set of solutions than the self-similar ones recently suggested in the literature. Explicit forms of the metrics are given and the self-similar sub-cases are discussed.
We find a charged spherically symmetric black hole solution with the existence of a cloud of strings and quintessential matter. Then we apply the Demianski-Newman-Janis algorithm to generate the rotating and twisting counterpart. The thermodynamic properties of this black hole solution are further investigated.
In this paper we derive a general solution for the most general rotating and twisting locally rotationally symmetric spacetimes. This is achieved in three steps. First we decompose the manifold via 1+1+2 semi-tetrad formalism that yields a set of geometrical and thermodynamic scalars for the spacetime. We then recast the Einstein field equations in terms of evolution and propagation of these scalars. It is then shown that this class of spacetimes must possess self similarity and we use this property to solve for these scalars, thus obtaining a general solution. This solution has a number of ve…
In this paper the deflection angle of light by a rotating Teo wormhole spacetime is calculated in the weak limit approximation. We mainly focus on the weak deflection angle by revealing the gravitational lensing as a partially global topological effect. We apply the Gauss-Bonnet theorem (GBT) to the optical geometry osculating the Teo-Randers wormhole optical geometry to calculate the deflection angle. Furthermore we find the same result using the standard geodesic method. We have found that the deflection angle can be written as a sum of two terms, namely the first term is proportional to the…
Recently, in a series of papers, we established the existence and found a general solution for the simultaneously rotating and twisting locally rotationally symmetric spacetimes in general relativity, which can model inhomogeneous and dynamic astrophysical bodies. However, these spacetimes necessarily require imperfect fluids with entropy flux. Therefore, in this paper, we investigate the existence of these spacetimes in generic f(R)-gravity models, where the entropy flux is generated purely by higher order curvature effects, while the standard matter still remains a perfect fluid. However, we…
Konoplya and Zhidenko have proposed recently a rotating non-Kerr black hole metric beyond General Relativity and make an estimate for the possible deviations from the Kerr solution with the data of GW 150914. We here study the strong gravitational lensing in such a rotating non-Kerr spacetime with an extra deformation parameter. We find that the condition of existence of horizons is not inconsistent with that of the marginally circular photon orbit. Moreover, the deflection angle of the light ray near the weakly naked singularity covered by the marginally circular orbit diverges logarithmicall…
Kerr black holes are among the most intriguing predictions of Einstein's general relativity theory. These rotating massive astrophysical objects drag and intermix their surrounding space and time, deflecting and phase-modifying light emitted nearby them. We have found that this leads to a new relativistic effect that imposes orbital angular momentum onto such light. Numerical experiments, based on the integration of the null geodesic equations of light from orbiting point-like sources in the Kerr black hole equatorial plane to an asymptotic observer, indeed identify the phase change and wavefr…
Motivated by (i) more and more interest in strong gravitational lensing by supermassive black holes due to the achievement of EHT observations, (ii) the ongoing popular topic on the possibility of Lorentz symmetry being broken in gravitation and its consequences, we will apply the Einstein bumblebee gravity with Lorentz violation (LV) to the study of strong gravitational lensing effect and the black hole shadow of slowly rotating Kerr-like black hole. In the strong gravitational lensing sector, we first calculate the deflection angel; then treating the slowly rotating Kerr-like black hole as s…
The lack of rotating black holes, typically found in nature, hinders testing modified gravity from astrophysical observations. We present the axially symmetric counterpart of an existing spherical hairy black hole in Horndeski gravity having an additional deviation parameter $Q$, which encompasses the Kerr black hole as a particular case ($Q=0$). We investigate the effect of Horndeski parameter $Q$ on the rotating black holes' geometry and analytically deduce the gravitational deflection angle of light in the weak-field limit. For the S2 source star, the deflection angle for the Sgr A* model o…
We study the strong gravitational lensing effect around rotating black holes in different gravity theories. By calculating the deflection angle of strong gravitational lensing, we evaluate the lensing observables including the image position, separation, magnification and the time delays between the relativistic images of different rotating black holes. We argue that the differences in image positions, separations between the rotating black hole in modified gravity (MOG) theory and the Kerr black hole in general relativity (GR) are more significant in SgrA* than those in M87*, however the diff…
We have investigated the strong gravitational lensing in a rotating squashed Kaluza-Klein (KK) black hole spacetime. Our result show that the strong gravitational lensings in the rotating squashed KK black hole spacetime have some distinct behaviors from those in the backgrounds of the four-dimensional Kerr black hole and of the squashed KK Gödel black hole. In the rotating squashed KK black hole spacetime, the marginally circular photon radius $ρ_{ps}$, the coefficient $\bar{a}$, $\bar{b}$, the deflection angle $α(θ)$ in the $ϕ$ direction and the corresponding observational variables are inde…
The null geodesics of the regular and rotating magnetically charged black hole in a non-minimally coupled Einstein-Yang-Mills theory surrounded by a plasma medium is studied. The effect of magnetic charge and Yang-Mills parameter on the effective potential and radius of photon orbits has investigated. We then study the shadow of a regular and rotating magnetically charged black hole along with the observables in presence of the plasma medium. The presence of plasma medium affects the apparent size of the shadow of a regular rotating black hole in comparison to vacuum case. Variation of shadow …
We study strong gravitational lensing in rotating space-times which can be thought of as realistic galactic models in General Relativity. To this end, using the Newman-Janis algorithm, we first obtain a rotating version of a static galactic metric advanced by Bharadwaj and Kar. This is matched with a generic external Kerr solution without a slowly-rotating approximation. Next, we construct a rotating version of Perlick's Bertrand space-times and establish this as a new rotating solution of Einstein's equations where each spatial radius admits a stable circular orbit. A rotating generalization …
In this paper we study wave propagation and scattering near a rotating black hole. In particular, we assume a coherent emission source near the black hole and investigate the wavefront distortion as seen by a distant observer. Near the observer, the propagating wave can be decomposed using the Laguerre-Gaussian mode basis and its wavefront distortion can be characterized by the decomposition coefficient. We find that this decomposition spectrum is symmetric for wave sources located near a Schwarzschild black hole, but is generically asymmetric if the host black hole is rotating. The spectrum a…
We consider a time-like geodesics in the background of rotating Einstein-Born-Infeld (EBI) black hole to examine the horizon and ergosphere structure. The effective potential that governs the particle's motion in the spacetime and the innermost stable circular orbits (ISCO) is also studied. A qualitative analysis is conducted to find the redshifted ultrahigh centre-of-mass (CM) energy as a result of a two-particle collision specifically near the horizon. The recent Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) triggered a surge of interest in strong gravitational lensing by black holes, which provide a new to…
Considering the spacetime around a rotating massif body it is seen that the time of flight of a light ray is different whether it travels on one side of the source or on the other. The difference is proportional to the angular momentum of the body. In the case that a compact rapidly rotating object is the source of a gravitational lensing effect, the contribution coming from the above mentioned gravitational Aharonov-Bohm effect should be added to the other causes of phase difference between light rays coming from different images of the same object.
We model massive compact objects in galactic nuclei as stationary, axially-symmetric naked singularities in the Einstein-massless scalar field theory and study the resulting gravitational lensing. In the weak deflection limit we study analytically the position of the two weak field images, the corresponding signed and absolute magnifications as well as the centroid up to post-Newtonian order. We show that there are a static post-Newtonian corrections to the signed magnification and their sum as well as to the critical curves, which are function of the scalar charge. The shift of the critical c…
The gravitational lensing of a finite star moving around a rotating Kerr black hole has been numerically calculated. Calculations for the direct image of the star and for the first and second light echoes have been performed for the star moving with an orbital period of 3.22 h around the supermassive black hole SgrA* at the Galactic Center. Time dependences for the observed star position on the celestial sphere, radiation flux from the star, frequency of detected radiation, major and minor semiaxes of the lensed star image have been calculated and plotted. The detailed observation of such lens…
In this paper, using the recent method proposed by Ono, Ishihara and Asada (OIA) who extend the idea of Gibbons and Werner to the stationary and axisymmetric case, we apply the Gauss-Bonnet theorem to the optical metric of the non-rotating and rotating Damour-Solodukhin wormholes spacetimes to study the weak gravitational lensing by these objects. Furthermore, we study the strong gravitational lensing by the non-rotating Damour-Solodukhin wormholes using the Bozza's method to see the differences between the weak lensing and the strong lensing. We demonstrate the relation between the strong def…
We derive the delay in travel time of photons due to the spin of a body both inside a rotating shell and outside a rotating body. We then show that this time delay by the spin of an astrophysical object might be detected in different images of the same source by gravitational lensing; it might be relevant in the determination of the Hubble constant using accurate measurements of the time delay between the images of some gravitational lens systems. The measurement of the spin-time-delay might also provide a further observable to estimate the dark matter content in galaxies, clusters, or super-c…
We study the strong gravitational lensing in the background of a rotating non-Kerr compact object with a deformed parameter $ε$ and an unbound rotation parameter $a$. We find that the photon sphere radius and the deflection angle depend sharply on the parameters $ε$ and $a$. For the case in which the black hole is more prolate than a Kerr black hole, the photon sphere exists only in the regime $ε\leqε_{max}$ for prograde photon. The upper limit $ε_{max}$ is a function of the rotation parameter $a$. As $ε>ε_{max}$, the deflection angle of the light ray closing very to the naked singularity is a…
In this work are reviewed several aspects of gravitational lensing produced by astrophysical bodies that strongly curve the spacetime in their vicinity. When an object with a photon sphere (e.g. a black hole) is interposed between a source and an observer, in addition to primary and secondary images due to small deflections of the light rays, there are two infinite sets of images called relativistic, produced by light passing close to the photon sphere, which undergoes a large deflection. The positions and magnifications of relativistic images can be obtained numerically or analytically, in th…
In this article we study gravitational lensing by non-rotating and asymptotically flat black holes in Horndeski theory. By adopting the strong deflection limit, we calculate the deflection angle, from which we obtain the positions and the magnifications of the relativistic images. We compare our results with those corresponding to black holes in General Relativity. We analyze the astrophysical consequences in the case of the nearest supermassive black holes.
The recent years witnessed a surge of interest of the lensing of the black holes arising from general as well as other modified theories of gravity due to the experimental data available from the EHT results. The EHT may open a new door indicating the possible existence of the rotating black hole solutions in modified theories of gravity in the strong field regime. With this motivation, we investigate in the present paper the equatorial lensing $(θ=π/2)$ by a recently obtained exact rotating black holes solution in EiBI theory in both the strong and weak field limits. Such black holes are the …
Black hole lensing and gravitational waves are, respectively, closely dependent of the property of the lens and radiation source. In this letter, a universal relation between them is established for a rotating black hole acting simultaneously as a lens and a gravitational wave source, in an asymptotically flat spacetime. The relation only relies on the lens geometry and observable, while is independent of the specific nature of the black hole. Therefore, the possible gravitational wave sources could be located with modern astronomical instrument from the side of the lensing without knowing the…
The method of Rindler and Ishak enables one to study how light is bent in the vicinity of a non-rotating and spherically symmetric gravitational lens. This method mainly aims to investigate the role of cosmological constant in the consequent path. In this paper, we use the extension of Rindler-Ishak method (RIM) in order to evaluate the deflection angle of null geodesics in the equatorial plane of Kerr-Newman anti de Sitter (KNAdS) spacetime. We then use astrophysical data to see the effect of rotation and charge on the bending angle of light for seven distinct stars and two black holes under …

We have investigated the geodetic precession and the strong gravitational lensing in the slowly-rotating black hole in the dynamical Chern-Simons modified gravity theory. We present the formulas of the orbital period $T$ and the geodetic precession angle $ΔΘ$ for the timelike particles in the circular orbits around the black hole, which shows that the change of the geodetic precession angle with the Chern-Simons coupling parameter $ξ$ is converse to the change of the orbital period with $ξ$ for fixed $a$. We also discuss the effects of the Chern-Simons coupling parameter on the strong gravitat…

A metric representing a slowly rotating object with quadrupole moment is obtained using a perturbation method to include rotation into the weak limit of the Erez-Rosen metric. This metric is intended to tackle relativistic astrometry and gravitational lensing problems in which a quadrupole moment has to be taken into account.
In this paper, we study rotating black holes in symmergent gravity, and use deviations from the Kerr black hole to constrain the parameters of the symmergent gravity. Symmergent gravity induces the gravitational constant $G$ and quadratic curvature coefficient $c_{\rm O}$ from the flat spacetime matter loops. In the limit in which all fields are degenerate in mass, the vacuum energy $V_{\rm O}$ can be wholly expressed in terms of $G$ and $c_{\rm O}$. We parametrize deviation from this degenerate limit by a parameter ${\hat α}$ such that the black hole spacetime is dS for ${\hat α} < 1$ and AdS…
We present firstly equation of motion for the photon coupled to Weyl tensor in a Kerr black hole spacetime and then study further the corresponding strong gravitational lensing. We find that black hole rotation makes propagation of the coupled photons more complicated, which brings some new features for physical quantities including the marginally circular photon orbit, the deflection angle, the observational gravitational lensing variables and the time delay between two relativistic images. There is a critical value of the coupling parameter for existence of the marginally circular photon orb…
