Some highlights from the 18$^{\rm th}$ international conference on $B$ physics at frontier machines are presented, including first results from the full LHC Run 2 data and from early Belle II data.
The status of $B$ physics, CP violation and related measurements at the time of the Beauty 2006 conference are summarized. Particular attention is given to the exciting prospects that lie ahead, at the commencement of the LHC era, and beyond.
CP-violation is one of the least understood phenomena in our field. There are major experimental programs in all high energy laboratories around the world which will hopefully remedy this within the next decade. The study of CP-violating effects in B meson decays will allow stringent tests of the Standard Model to be made and may point the way to New Physics. The Beauty97 conference provided a forum for these experiments to discuss their physics potential and experimental challenges relating to these studies. This paper reviews the ongoing and future experimental B-physics projects. I will sum…
Investigations of B hadrons are expected to break new ground in measuring CP-violation effects. This series of BEAUTY conferences, originating from the 1993 conference in Liblice, has contributed significantly in developing ideas of CP-violation measurements using B hadrons and formulating and comparing critically the B-physics experiments. In the '99 conference in Bled we saw the ripening of the field and the first fruit emerging - Tevatron have produced beautiful B-physics results and more are expected to come with the next run, while the B-physics experiments at DESY, SLAC and KEK are start…
High-quality results have been produced with the first Large Hadron Collider run on high-pT, heavy flavour and heavy ion physics. These results, as well as the most recent data analyses from Tevatron, have been presented and discussed at the LHCP2014 conference. A selection of some of them is summarised in this paper, with care to those that stimulated interesting discussions during this event.
This is a brief summary of the 11th Applied Antineutrino Physics 2015 workshop held at the Virginia Tech Arlington Research Facility from December 7-8, 2015.
In these proceedings, we highlight recent developments from both theory and experiment related to the global description of matter produced in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions as presented during the Quark Matter 2012 conference.
This is the Theory Summary of the "Flavor Physics and CP Violation 2012" conference, with emphasis on New Physics. Besides covering the theory part of the conference, we pay attention also to the physics highlights of experimental talks. I then give my perspective on the false "Godot sightings" of the past decade, with some firsthand accounts. With all coming to naught (well, SM) at the moment, I look ahead to the near future, and to 2015 and beyond. An Epilogue is added with the advent of "the Higgs" at the LHC.
This is a review of some of the highlights of the 6th workshop on the physics of the tau lepton and its neutrino. This includes the test of lepton universality, measurement of Lorentz Structure, study of hadronic decays, direct evidence of tau neutrino, status of neutrino oscillations, and search for neutrinoless decays. This review concludes with a look at the prospect for tau physics in the future.
Summary of the experimental results presented at the 51st edition of the Moriond Electroweak and Unified Theories conference held in March 2016 at La Thuile, Italy.
The NOW2000 Workshop summarized the present status and future possibilities for all aspects of neutrino physics and astrophysics. Neutrino oscillation physics has truly come of age in the last few years. It is now data driven (analogous to cosmology and much of high energy physics in general). Experimental techniques and the theoretical interpretation have developed dramatically. An example of the latter includes the more realistic analysis of neutrino oscillations in the framework of 3 or more mass eigenstates. The phenomenological emphasis has shifted from degenerate to hierarchical neutrino…
The article presents experimental highlights of Moriond 2013 QCD conference. This was fantastic conference and the first Moriond QCD since the discovery of the Higgs boson. Many new results about its properties have been presented at the conference with Higgs-like particle becoming a Higgs as it properties match expected for the Higgs boson pretty well. There were many new results presented in all experimental areas including QCD, elecroweak, studies of the top, bottom and charm quarks, searches for physics beyond Standard Model as well as studies of the heavy ion collisions. 56 experimental t…
The conference included about 90 talks covering a plethora of different sectors, like Higgs physics, electroweak physics, top physics, BSM physics, soft QCD, jets, PDFs, heavy ions, heavy flavours, spectroscopy, etc. A few experimental results are here highlighted.
This report is the summary of the Eighth International Conference on Quarks and Nuclear Physics (QNP2018). Hadron and nuclear physics is the field to investigate high-density quantum many-body systems bound by strong interactions. It is intended to clarify matter generation of universe and properties of quark-hadron many-body systems. The QNP is an international conference which covers a wide range of hadron and nuclear physics, including quark and gluon structure of hadrons, hadron spectroscopy, hadron interactions and nuclear structure, hot and cold dense matter, and experimental facilities.…
The main highlights discussed at TAU2012 are briefly summarized. Besides the standard topics on lepton physics covered also at previous conferences (universality, QCD tests, V_{us} determination from tau decay, g-2, neutrino oscillations, lepton-flavour violation), the tau lepton is playing now a very important role in searches for new physics phenomena.
We summarize some highlights from experimental results presented at the XIIth International Conference on Beauty, Charm, and Hyperons in Hadronic Interactions, held at George Mason University June 12-18, 2016.
In over forty presentations on experiments at the 2012 conference on Flavor Physics and CP Violation (FPCP 2012), there was an abundance of beautiful and significant results. This summary of these experiment presentations begins with a reminder of the context in which the measurements have been made and the motivations for making the specific measurements reported at the symposium. Given the number and breadth of physics topics covered at the meeting, this review covers only a limited set of highlights, sort of a traveler's set of souvenir postcards of favorite slides. The selected slides are …
A substantial body of data is described by the Standard Model of particle physics. However the description is far from perfect and there is a growing number of internal inconsistencies. These fall short of qualifying as discoveries; nevertheless, examination of their merits is both interesting and worthwhile. The existence of three families of quarks and leptons is not understood. There are new data, especially from the B factories; the latter are shining new light on the problem. From several experiments, data show that our thoughts about the existence of transitions between neutrino flavors,…
We present a summary of heavy-flavour physics at the the time of the DIS2019 conference. This summary is based upon the relevant plenary and parallel talks presented at the workshop. The summary is divided into four broad areas: (1) spectroscopy, (2) the production of b and c quarks in collisions, (3) top quark production and properties, and (4) b and c quark decay.
I very briefly review the highlights of the fifth workshop on the physics of the tau lepton and its neutrino. There has been much progress in many sub-fields, which I touch upon in this review: the couplings of the tau to the $Z^0$ and $W^\pm$; the leptonic branching fractions, lifetime, and tests of universality; the Lorentz structure of tau decays; searches for neutrinoless decays; limits on weak and electromagnetic dipole moments and CP violation; inclusive semi-hadronic decays, spectral functions, sum rules, QCD, and applications; substructure in tau decays to three pseudoscalars; tau deca…
This article summarises the highlights of the recent experimental findings on strangeness production presented at the 16th edition of the {\it International Conference on Strangeness in Quark Matter} in Berkeley. Results obtained by eight large experimental collaborations (ALICE, ATLAS, CMS, HADES, LHCb, NA-61, PHENIX, STAR) spanning a large range in centre-of-mass energy and a variety of collision systems were presented at the conference. The article does not aim at being a complete review, but rather at connecting the experimental highlights of the different collaborations and at pointing to…
A broad range of new experimental data and theoretical results on the properties of hadronic matter under extreme conditions have been reported at Quark Matter 2012 conference. At this conference the scientific community was presented with a variety of measurements from the 2011 lead-lead LHC run using hard probe observables. Many measurements, such as boson-jet correlations, production rates of the b-jets, high precision jet fragmentation and others were shown for the first time. The new data from the LHC was matched by new techniques and analyses coming from RHIC experiments. This proceeding…
The working group on electroweak measurements and searches for new physics at the Deep Inelastic Scattering 2012 workshop covered a wide range of results from the various experiments at the LHC (ATLAS, CMS, LHCb), the Tevatron (CDF, DO) and HERA (H1, ZEUS), as well as results from the BaBar, NA48/62 and OPERA collaborations. In addition, invited theoretical overviews were presented and discussed in each of the sessions. A summary of a selection of the results shown at the conference is given.
The Moriond conference on QCD and High Energy Interactions has been a most exciting and interesting event once more. This year's edition has been characterized by a very large amount of new results from the LHC experiments. However, also the experiments at other present or past accelerators are still giving extremely important input to our quest for the understanding of nature at shortest distance scales. In this review I will attempt to summarize the main experimental highlights of this conference.
This is the proceedings article for the concluding lecture of the 1999 High Energy Physics Conference of the European Physical Society. In this article, I review a number of topics that were highlighted at the meeting and have more general importance in high energy physics. The major topics discussed include: (1) precision electroweak physics, (2) CP violation, (3) new directions in QCD, (4) supersymmetry spectroscopy, (5) the experimental physics of extra dimensions.
At the time of the 10th International Workshop on Top Quark Physics (TOP2017), top quark physics is a very dynamic research area. Thanks to the unprecedentedly fast accumulation of high-energy data at the LHC during the ongoing Run~2, statistical starvation is a matter of the past for most of the traditional top-quark analyses, that are now experiencing the luxury of having to worry about how to punch through the "Systematics Wall" and maximize the utility of their data. New processes involving top quarks are being studied for the first time, and the good old pair-production processes are bein…
This article is a short and non-exhaustive summary of the prospects to find New Physics with LHCb as was presented at the HCP conference at Toronto on August 26th 2010.
We summarise the Topical Workshop on Top Quark Differential Distributions 2014, which took place in Cannes immediately before the annual Top2014 conference. The workshop was motivated by the availability of top quark differential distributions at NNLO and the forthcoming LHC 13 TeV data. The main goal of the workshop was to explore the impact of improved calculations of top quark production on precision LHC measurements, PDF determinations and searches for physics beyond the Standard Model, as well as finding ways in which the high precision data from ATLAS, CMS and LHCb can be used to further…
A summary of WG II of the CKM 2018 conference on semileptonic and leptonic $b$-hadron decays is presented. This includes discussions on the CKM matrix element magitudes $|V_{ub}|$ and $|V_{cb}|$, lepton universality tests such as $R(D^{*})$ and leptonic decays. As is usual for semileptonic and leptonic decays, much discussion is devoted towards the interplay between theoretical QCD calculations and the experimental measurements.
2008 was a vintage year for the QCD Moriond meeting. Plenty of new data from Tevatron, HERA, B-Factories and other experiments have been reported. Some brand new results became public just before or even during the conference. A few new hints for New Physics came up in Winter 2008, but these await further scrutiny. This paper is the write-up of the experimental summary talk given at the Moriond QCD March meeting.
A summary of results in heavy flavour physics from Run 1 of the LHC is presented. Topics discussed include spectroscopy, mixing, CP violation and rare decays of charmed and beauty hadrons.
The Second Biennal African Conference on Fundamental and Applied Physics (ACP) took place in March 2022. The scientific program included three summary reports on the African Strategy for Fundamental and Applied Physics (ASFAP). Here, the summary report of "Particle Physics and related applications" groups (Particle Physics, Nuclear Physics, Medical Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology, Fluid and Plasma, and Complex Systems; and the cross-cutting fields: Accelerators, Instrumentation and Detectors, Computing, and Nuclear Energy) is presented. The scope of each of the groups, the events organised…
A summary of the experimental results of the TOP2014 International Workshop in Cannes, France, is presented. This inspiring conference clearly showed the richness and diversity of top-quark physics research. Results cover a very broad spectrum of analyses involving studies of the strong and electroweak interactions of the top quark, high-precision measurements of intrinsic top-quark properties, developments of new tools in top-quark analyses, observations of new Standard Model processes, the interaction between the top quark and the Higgs boson and sensitive searches for new physics beyond the…
The 5th international Conference on Hard and Electromagnetic Probes in High-Energy Nuclear Collisions was held in May 2012 in Cagliari, Italy. This contribution summarises some of the experimental highlights presented at the meeting, concentrating on new results from LHC and RHIC on parton energy loss ('jet-quenching') and heavy quark meson production ('quarkonia suppression').
I discuss new experimental results reported at this conference that bear directly on three previously reported anomalies: the excess of high Q^2 events at HERA; the excess of W + 1 jet events, relative to W's without jets, in D0 data; and the excess of high E_T inclusive jets observed by CDF. The new results all point in the direction of reducing the experimental significance of these excesses.
