In this note we prove the strong Feller property of a strong Markov quasi diffusion process corresponding to an elliptic operator with merely bounded measurable coefficients. We also prove Hölder continuity of harmonic functions associated with the quasi diffusion process and Harnack inequality. As an application, we show that for such diffusion processes the probabilistic definition of a regular boundary point coincides with the 'analytic' one.
The parabolic counterparts of these results are presented as well. The proofs are adaptations of arguments from \cite{KrS_79} and \cite{Kr_18}.
T. Szarek [Stud. Math. 189 (2008), § 4] have discussed the relationship between two important notions concerning Markov semigroups: the asymptotic strong Feller property and the e-property, asserting that the former property implies the latter one. In this very short note we rectify this issue exhibiting a simple example of a Markov-Feller semigroup enjoying the asymptotic strong Feller property, for which the e-property is not satisfied. (See also the comment on a connection between the asymptotic strong Feller property and the e-property by T. Szarek, D. Worm [ETDS 32 (2012), § 1]). Addition…
We give necessary and sufficient criteria for the Feller-Dynkin property of solutions to martingale problems in terms of Lyapunov functions. Moreover, we derive a Khasminskii-type integral test for the Feller-Dynkin property of multidimensional diffusions with random switching. For one dimensional switching diffusions with state-independent switching, we provide an integral-test for the Feller-Dynkin property.
Brownian motions on a metric graph are defined, their Feller property is proved, and their generators are characterized. This yields a version of Feller's theorem for metric graphs.
In this paper, we prove the strong Feller property for stochastic delay (or functional) differential equations with singular drift. We extend an approach of Maslowski and Seidler to derive the strong Feller property of those equations. The argumentation is based on the well-posedness and the strong Feller property of the equations' drift-free version. To this aim, we investigate a certain convergence of random variables in topological spaces in order to deal with discontinuous drift coefficients.

In this work, we prove that any asymptotically stable Markov-Feller operator possesses the e-property everywhere outside at most a meagre set. We also provide an example showing that this result is tight. Moreover, an equivalent criterion for the e-property is proposed.
Strong Feller property and irreducibility are study for a class of non-linear monotone stochastic partial differential equations with multiplicative noise. Hölder continuity of the associated Markov semigroups are discussed in some special cases. The main results are applied to several examples such as stochastic porous media equations, stochastic fast diffusion equations.
We investigate the relation between the e-property and the eventual continuity, or called the asymptotic equicontinuity, which is a generalization of the e-property. We prove that, for any discrete-time or strongly continuous continuous-time eventually continuous Markov-Feller semigroup with an ergodic measure, if the interior of the support of the ergodic measure is nonempty, then the e-property is satisfied on the interior of the support. In particular, it implies that, restricted on the support of each ergodic measure, the e-property and the eventual continuity are equivalent for the discre…
In this short note we show how the asymptotic strong Feller property (ASF) and local weak irreducibility can be established via generalized couplings. We also prove that a stronger form of ASF together with local weak irreducibility implies uniqueness of an invariant measure. The latter result is optimal in a certain sense and complements some of the corresponding results of Hairer, Mattingly (2008).
In this paper, we consider first order Sobolev spaces with Robin boundary condition on unbounded Lipschitz domains. Hunt processes are associated with these spaces. We prove that the semigroup of these processes are doubly Feller. As a corollary, we provide a condition for semigroups generated by these processes being compact.
We investigate the existence and uniqueness of strong solutions up to an explosion time for regime-switching diffusion processes in an infinite state space. Instead of concrete conditions on coefficients, our existence and uniqueness result is established under the general assumption that the diffusion in every fixed environment has a unique non-explosive strong solution. Moreover, non-explosion conditions for regime-switching diffusion processes are given. The strong Feller property is proved by further assuming that the diffusion in every fixed environment generates a strong Feller semigroup…
We study two equivalent characterizations of the strong Feller property for a Markov process and of the associated sub-Markovian semigroup. One is described in terms of locally uniform absolute continuity, whereas the other uses local Orlicz-ultracontractivity. These criteria generalize many existing results on strong Feller continuity and seem to be more natural for Feller processes. By establishing the estimates of the first exit time from balls, we also investigate the continuity of harmonic functions for Feller processes which enjoy the strong Feller property.
We introduce a new functional inequality, which is a modification of log-Harnack inequality established in [20] and [29], and prove that it implies the asymptotically strong Feller property (ASF). This inequality seems to generalize the criterion for ASF in [Proposition 3.12,14]. As a example, we show by an asymptotic coupling that 2D stochastic Navier-Stokes equation driven by highly degenerate but \emph{essentially elliptic} noises satisfies our modified log-Harnack inequality.
We show that a one-dimensional regular continuous Markov process \(\X\) with scale function \(s\) is a Feller--Dynkin process precisely if the space transformed process \(s (X)\) is a martingale when stopped at the boundaries of its state space. As a consequence, the Feller--Dynkin and the martingale property are equivalent for regular diffusions on natural scale with open state space. By means of a counterexample, we also show that this equivalence fails for multi-dimensional diffusions. Moreover, for Itô diffusions we discuss relations to Cauchy problems.
We study functional stochastic differential equations with a locally unbounded, functional drift focusing on well-posedness, stability and the strong Feller property. Following the non-functional case, we only consider integrability conditions and avoid continuity assumptions as far as possible. Our approach is mainly based on Zvonkin's transformation [18], an extended version of the probabilistic approach of Maslowski and Seidler [12] and the convergence concept for random variables in topological spaces in [2].
We consider the exploration process associated to the continuous random tree (CRT) built using a Levy process with no negative jumps. This process has been studied by Duquesne, Le Gall and Le Jan. This measure-valued Markov process is a useful tool to study CRT as well as super-Brownian motion with general branching mechanism. In this paper we prove this process is Feller, and we compute its infinitesimal generator on exponential functionals and give the corresponding martingale.
Using Girsanov transformations we construct from sticky reflected Brownian motion on $[0,\infty)$ a conservative diffusion on $E:=[0,\infty)^n$, $n \in \mathbb{N}$, and prove that its transition semigroup possesses the strong Feller property for a specified general class of drift functions. By identifying the Dirichlet form of the constructed process, we characterize it as sticky reflected distorted Brownian motion. In particular, the relations of the underlying analytic Dirichlet form methods to the probabilistic methods of random time changes and Girsanov transformations are presented. Our s…
We modify the definition of Aldous' multiplicative coalescent process and introduce the multiplicative coalescent with linear deletion (MCLD). A state of this process is a square-summable decreasing sequence of cluster sizes. Pairs of clusters merge with a rate equal to the product of their sizes and clusters are deleted with a rate linearly proportional to their size. We prove that the MCLD is a Feller process. This result is a key ingredient in the description of scaling limits of the evolution of component sizes of the mean field frozen percolation model and the so-called rigid representati…
This work focuses on a class of stochastic damping Hamiltonian systems with state-dependent switching, where the switching process has a countably infinite state space. After establishing the existence and uniqueness of a global weak solution via the martingale approach under very mild conditions, the paper next proves the strong Feller property for regime-switching stochastic damping Hamiltonian systems by the killing technique together with some resolvent and transition probability identities. The commonly used continuity assumption for the switching rates $q_{kl}(\cdot)$ in the literature i…
The Feller property concerns the preservation of the space of functions vanishing at infinity by the semigroup generated by an operator. We study this property in the case of the Laplacian on infinite graphs with arbitrary edge weights and vertex measures. In particular, we give conditions for the Feller property involving curvature-type quantities for general graphs, characterize the property in the case of model graphs, and give some comparison results to the model case.
These lecture notes are an extended version of my lectures on Lévy and Lévy-type (Feller) processes given at the "Second Barcelona Summer School on Stochastic Analysis" 2014 organized by the Centre de Recerca Matemaatica (CRM). The lectures are aimed at advanced graduate and PhD students. In order to read these notes, one should have sound knowledge of measure theoretic probability theory and some background in stochastic processes, as it is covered in my books "Measures, Integals and Martingales" (Cambridge University Press) and "Brownian Motion" (de Gruyter). My purpose in these lectures is …
In this note we generalise the Phillips theorem on the subordination of Feller processes by Levy subordinators to the class of additive subordinators (i.e. subordinators with independent but possibly nonstationary increments). In the case where the original Feller process is Levy we also express the time-dependent characteristics of the subordinated process in terms of the characteristics of the Levy process and the additive subordinator.
This paper studies some analytical properties of weak solutions of 3D stochastic primitive equations with periodic boundary conditions. The martingale problem associated to this model is shown to have a family of solutions satisfying the Markov property, which is achieved by means of an abstract selection principle. The Markov property is crucial to extend the regularity of the transition semigroup from small times to arbitrary times. Thus, under a regular additive noise, every Markov solution is shown to have a property of continuous dependence on initial conditions, which follows from employ…
We consider the stochastic differential equation $dX_t = A(X_{t-}) \, dZ_t$, $ X_0 = x$, driven by cylindrical $α$-stable process $Z_t$ in $R^d$, where $α\in (0,1)$ and $d \ge 2$. We assume that the determinant of $A(x) = (a_{ij}(x))$ is bounded away from zero, and $a_{ij}(x)$ are bounded and Lipschitz continuous. We show that for any fixed $γ\in (0,α)$ the semigroup $P_t$ of the process $X_t$ satisfies $|P_t f(x) - P_t f(y)| \le c t^{-γ/α} |x - y|^γ ||f||_\infty$ for arbitrary bounded Borel function $f$. Our approach is based on Levi's method.
For general (1+1)-affine Markov processes, we prove the ergodicity and exponential ergodicity in total variation distances. Our methods follow the arguments of ergodic properties for Lévy-driven OU-processes and a coupling of CBI-processes constructed by stochastic equations driven by time-space noises. Then the strong Feller property is considered.
This paper considers multidimensional jump type stochastic differential equations with super linear growth and non-Lipschitz coefficients. After establishing a sufficient condition for nonexplosion, this paper presents sufficient non-Lipschitz conditions for pathwise uniqueness. The non confluence property for solutions is investigated. Feller and strong Feller properties under non-Lipschitz conditions are investigated via the coupling method. Sufficient conditions for irreducibility and exponential ergodicity are derived. As applications, this paper also studies multidimensional stochastic di…
In this paper we prove strong Feller property for the Markov semigroups associated to the two or three dimensional Navier-Stokes (N-S) equations driven by space-time white noise using the theory of regularity structures introduced by Martin Hairer in [Hai14]. This implies global well-posedness of 2D N-S equation driven by space-time white noise starting from every initial point in $C^η$ for $η\in (-\frac{1}{2},0)$.
The main purpose of this paper is to show that Markov solutions to the 3D Navier--Stokes equations driven by Gaussian noise have the strong Feller property up to the critical topology given by the domain of the Stokes operator to the power one-fourth.
We study regular coverings of graphs and manifolds with a focus on properties of the heat equation. In particular, we look at stochastic incompleteness, the Feller property and uniform transience; and investigate the connection between the validity of these properties on the base space and its covering. For both graphs and manifolds, we prove the equivalence of stochastic incompleteness of the base and that of its cover. Along the way we also give some new conditions for the Feller property to hold on graphs.
We show that the Markov semigroups generated by a large class of singular stochastic PDEs satisfy the strong Feller property. These include for example the KPZ equation and the dynamical $Φ^4_3$ model. As a corollary, we prove that the Brownian bridge measure is the unique invariant measure for the KPZ equation with periodic boundary conditions.
This paper presents analogous results for stochastic fast-diffusion equations. Since the fast-diffusion equation possesses weaker dissipativity than the porous medium one does, some technical difficulties appear in the study. As a compensation to the weaker dissipativity condition, a Sobolev-Nash inequality is assumed for the underlying self-adjoint operator in applications. Some concrete examples are constructed to illustrate the main results.
Under full Hörmander's conditions, we prove the strong Feller property of the semigroup determined by an SDE driven by additive subordinate Brownian motion, where the drift is allowed to be arbitrarily growth. For this, we extend a criterion due to Malicet-Poly \cite{Ma-Po} and Bally-Caramellino \cite{Ba-Ca} about the convergence of the laws of Wiener functionals in total variations. Moreover, the example of a chain of coupled oscillators is verified.
We prove that the semigroup generated by the open KPZ equation on a bounded spatial interval with Neumann boundary conditions parametrized by real parameters u and v enjoys the strong Feller property. From this we conclude that for u+v>0, min(u,v)>-1 the stationary measure constructed in Corwin and Knizel (arXiv:2103.12253) is the unique stationary measure for the equation. It is expected that the same conclusion holds for all values of u and v.
Consider a non-explosive positive Feller process with no negative jumps. It is shown in this note that when infinity is an entrance boundary, in the sense that the entrance times of the process remain bounded when the initial value tends to infinity, the process admits a Feller extension on the compactified state space $[0,\infty]$. Moreover, when started from infinity, the extended Markov process on $[0,\infty]$ leaves infinity instantaneously and stays finite, almost-surely. Arguments are adapted from a proof given by O. Kallenberg for diffusions. We also show that the process started from $…
In this paper we study the Martin boundary at infinity for a large class of purely discontinuous Feller processes on metric measure spaces. We show that if $\infty$ is accessible from an open set $D$, then there is only one Martin boundary point of $D$ associated with it, and this point is minimal. We also prove the analogous result for finite boundary points. As a consequence, we show that minimal thinness of a set is a local property.
Using elliptic regularity results in weighted spaces, stochastic calculus and the theory of non-symmetric Dirichlet forms, we first show weak existence of non-symmetric distorted Brownian motion for any starting point in some domain $E$ of $\mathbb{R}^d$, where $E$ is explicitly given as the points of strict positivity of the unique continuous version of the density to its invariant measure. Non-symmetric distorted Brownian motion is a singular diffusion, i.e. a diffusion that typically has an unbounded and discontinuous drift. Once having shown weak existence, we obtain from a result of \cite…
We consider stochastic (partial) differential equations appearing as Markovian lifts of affine Volterra processes with jumps from the point of view of the generalized Feller property which was introduced in e.g.~\cite{doetei:10}. In particular we provide new existence, uniqueness and approximation results for Markovian lifts of affine rough volatility models of general jump diffusion type. We demonstrate that in this Markovian light the theory of stochastic Volterra processes becomes almost classical.
The aim of this note is to show, by providing an elementary way to construct counter-examples, that the strong Feller and the joint (space-time) continuity for a semigroup of Markov kernels on a Polish space are not enough to ensure the existence of an associated càdlàg Markov process on the same space. One such simple counter-example is the Brownian semigroup on $\mathbb{R}$ restricted to $\mathbb{R}\setminus \{0\}$, for which it is shown that there is no associated càdlàg Markov process. Using the same idea and results from potential theory we then prove that the analogous result with càdlàg…
In this article is introduced and studied a set-indexed Markov property named C-Markov. This new definition fulfils one important expectation for a Markov property: there exists a natural set-indexed generalization of the concept of transition operator which leads to characterization and construction theorems for C-Markov processes. Several other usual Markovian notions, including Feller and strong Markov properties, can also be developed in this framework. Actually, the C-Markov property turns out to be a natural extension of the two-parameter \ast-Markov property to the multiparameter and as…

Let $X$ be an irreducible symmetric Markov process with the strong Feller property. We assume, in addition, that $X$ is explosive and has a tightness property. We then prove the existence and uniqueness of quasi-stationary distributions of $X$.
We prove limit theorems for cylindrical martingale problems associated to Lévy generators. Furthermore, we give sufficient and necessary conditions for the Feller property of well-posed problems with continuous coefficients. We discuss two applications. First, we derive continuity and linear growth conditions for the existence of weak solutions to infinite-dimensional stochastic differential equations driven by Lévy noise. Second, we derive continuity, local boundedness and linear growth conditions for limit theorems and the Feller property of weak solutions to stochastic partial differential …
