We find the best possible constant $C$ in the inequality $\|φ\|_{L^r}\leq C\|φ\|_{L^p}^{\frac{p}{r}}\|φ\|_{\mathrm{BMO}}^{1-\frac{p}{r}}$, where $2 \leq r$ and $p < r$. We employ the Bellman function technique to solve this problem in the case of an interval and then transfer our results to the circle and the line.
We develop technical tools that enable the use of Bellman functions for BMO defined on $α$-trees, which are structures that generalize dyadic lattices. As applications, we prove the integral John--Nirenberg inequality and an inequality relating $L^1$- and $L^2$-oscillations for BMO on $α$-trees, with explicit constants. When the tree in question is the collection of all dyadic cubes in $\mathbb{R}^n,$ the inequalities proved are sharp. We also reformulate the John--Nirenberg inequality for the continuous BMO in terms of special martingales generated by BMO functions. The tools presented can be…
In this paper, starting with a relatively simple observation that the variational estimates of the commutators of the standard Calderón-Zygmund operators with the BMO functions can be deduced from the weighted variational estimates of the standard Calderón-Zygmund operators themselves, we establish similar variational estimates for the commutators of the BMO functions with rough singular integrals which do not admit any weighted variational estimates. The proof involves many Littlewood-Paley type inequalities with commutators as well as Bony decomposition and related para-product estimates.
This paper is dedicated to study weighted $L^p$ inequalities for pseudo-differential operators with amplitudes and their commutators by using the new class of weights $A_p^\vc$ and the new BMO function space BMO$_\vc$ which are larger than the Muckenhoupt class of weights $A_p$ and classical BMO space BMO, respectively. The obtained results therefore improve substantially some well-known results.
In this work, we aim to study the action of composing by a rotation on the biparameter $\text{BMO}$ space in $\mathbb{R}^2$. This $\text{BMO}$ space is not preserved by a rotation since it relies on the structure of axis-parallel rectangles. We will quantify this fact by interpolation inequalities. One straightforward application of the interpolation inequalities is a boundedness property of directional Hilbert transforms.
We find the best possible constant $C$ in the inequality $$\|φ\|_{L^r}^{\phantom{\frac{p}{r}}}\leq C\|φ\|_{L^p}^{\frac{p}{r}}\|φ\|_{\mathrm{BMO}}^{1-\frac{p}{r}}$$ for all possible values of parameters $p$ and $r$ such that $1 \le p < r < +\infty$. We employ the Bellman function technique to solve this problem. The Bellman function of three variables corresponding to this problem has a rather complicated structure, however, we managed to provide the explicit formulas for this function. First, we solve the problem on an interval and then transfer our results to the circle and the line. We also …
We construct the upper and lower Bellman functions for the $L^p$ (quasi)-norms of BMO functions. These appear as solutions to a series of Monge--Ampère boundary value problems on a non-convex plane domain. The knowledge of the Bellman functions leads to sharp constants in inequalities relating average oscillations of BMO functions and various BMO norms.
We characterize the boundedness of the commutators $[b, T]$ with biparameter Journé operators $T$ in the two-weight, Bloom-type setting, and express the norms of these commutators in terms of a weighted little $bmo$ norm of the symbol $b$. Specifically, if $μ$ and $λ$ are biparameter $A_p$ weights, $ν:= μ^{1/p}λ^{-1/p}$ is the Bloom weight, and $b$ is in $bmo(ν)$, then we prove a lower bound and testing condition $\|b\|_{bmo(ν)} \lesssim \sup \| [b, R_k^1 R_l^2]: L^p(μ) \rightarrow L^p(λ)\|$, where $R_k^1$ and $R_l^2$ are Riesz transforms acting in each variable. Further, we prove that for suc…
We discuss a parabolic version of the space of functions of bounded mean oscillation related to a doubly nonlinear parabolic partial differential equation. Parabolic John-Nirenberg inequalities, which give exponential decay estimates for the oscillation of a function, are shown in the natural geometry of the partial differential equation. Chaining arguments are applied to change the time lag in the parabolic John-Nirenberg inequality. We also show that the quasihyperbolic boundary condition is a necessary and sufficient condition for a global parabolic John-Nirenberg inequality. Moreover, we c…
Given a Calderón-Zygmund operator $T$, a classic result of Coifman-Rochberg-Weiss relates the norm of the commutator $[b, T]$ with the BMO norm of $b$. We focus on a weighted version of this result, obtained by Bloom and later generalized by Lacey and the authors, which relates $\| [b, T] : L^p(\mathbb{R}^n; μ) \to L^p(\mathbb{R}^n; λ) \|$ to the norm of $b$ in a certain weighted BMO space determined by $A_p$ weights $μ$ and $λ$. We extend this result to higher iterates of the commutator and recover a one-weight result of Chung-Pereyra-Perez in the process.
In this paper we investigate weighted norm inequalities for the commutator of a fractional integral operator and multiplication by a function. In particular, we show that, for $μ,λ\in A_{p,q}$ and $α/n+1/q=1/p$, the norm $\| [b,I_α]:L^p(μ^p)\to L^q(λ^q) \|$ is equivalent to the norm of $b$ in the weighted BMO space $BMO(ν)$, where $ν=μλ^{-1}$. This work extends some of the results on this topic existing in the literature, and continues a line of investigation which was initiated by Bloom in 1985 and was recently developed further by the first author, Lacey, and Wick.
We provide an abstract estimate of the form \[ \|f-f_{Q,μ}\|_{X \left(Q,\frac{\mathrm{d} μ}{Y(Q)}\right)}\leq c(μ,Y)ψ(X)\|f\|_{\mathrm{BMO}(\mathrm{d}μ)} \] for all cubes $Q$ in $\mathbb{R}^n$ and every function $f\in \mathrm{BMO}(\mathrm{d}μ)$, where $μ$ is a doubling measure in $\mathbb{R}^n$, $Y$ is some positive functional defined on cubes, $\|\cdot \|_{X \left(Q,\frac{\mathrm{d} w}{w(Q)}\right)}$ is a sufficiently good quasi-norm and $c(μ,Y)$ and $ψ(X)$ are positive constants depending on $μ$ and $Y$, and $X$, respectively. That abstract scheme allows us to recover the sharp estimate \[ \…
In this note, we establish several interpolation inequalities in $\mathbb R^n$ in the Lebesgue spaces and Morrey spaces. By using the classical Calderon--Zygmund decomposition, we will reprove that $L^{p}(\mathbb R^n)\cap\mathrm{BMO}(\mathbb R^n)\subset L^{q}(\mathbb R^n)$ for all $q$ with $p<q<\infty$, where $1\leq p<\infty$. We also reprove that there exists a constant $C(p,q,n)$ depending on $p,q,n$ such that the following inequality \begin{equation*} \|f\|_{L^q}\leq C(p,q,n)\cdot\big(\|f\|_{L^p}\big)^{p/q}\cdot\big(\|f\|_{\mathrm{BMO}}\big)^{1-p/q} \end{equation*} holds for all $f\in L^{p}…
We investigate parabolic Muckenhoupt weights and functions of bounded mean oscillation (BMO) related to nonlinear parabolic partial differential equations. The main result gives a full characterization of weak and strong type weighted norm inequalities for parabolic forward in time maximal operators. In addition, we give a Jones type factorization result for the parabolic Muckenhoupt weights and a Coifman-Rochberg type characterization of the parabolic BMO from Moser's seminal paper through parabolic Muckenhoupt weights and maximal functions.
We provide a version of the transference principle. It says that certain optimization problems for functions on the circle, the interval, and the line have the same answers. In particular, we show that the sharp constants in the John--Nirenberg inequalities for naturally defined $\mathrm{BMO}$-spaces on the circle, the interval, and the line coincide. The same principle holds true for the Reverse Hölder inequality for Muckenhoupt weights.
We prove several sharp weighted norm inequalities for commutators of classical operators in harmonic analysis. We find sufficient $A_p$-bump conditions on pairs of weights $(u,v)$ such that $[b,T]$, $b\in BMO$ and $T$ a singular integral operator (such as the Hilbert or Riesz transforms), maps $L^p(v)$ into $L^p(u)$. Because of the added degree of singularity, the commutators require a "double log bump" as opposed to that of singular integrals, which only require single log bumps. For the fractional integral operator $I_\al$ we find the sharp one-weight bound on $[b,I_\al]$, $b\in BMO$, in ter…
We develop some techniques for studying various versions of the function space BMO. Special cases of one of our results give alternative proofs of the celebrated John- Nirenberg inequality and of related inequalities due to John and to Wik. Our approach enables us to pose a simply formulated "geometric" question, for which an affirmative answer would lead to a version of the John-Nirenberg inequality with dimension free constants.
