We study the cases of equality and prove a rigidity theorem concerning the 1-Bakry-Émery inequality. As an application, we prove the rigidity of the Gaussian isoperimetric inequality, the logarithmic Sobolev inequality and the Poincaré inequality in the setting of ${\rm RCD}(K, \infty)$ metric measure spaces. This unifies and extends to the non-smooth setting the results of Carlen-Kerce, Morgan, Bouyrie, Ohta-Takatsu, Cheng-Zhou.
Examples of non-smooth spaces fitting our setting are measured-Gromov Hausdorff limits of Riemannian manifolds with uniform Ricci curvature lower bound, and Alexandrov spaces with curvature lower bound. Some results including the rigidity of $Φ$-entropy inequalities, the rigidity of the 1-Bakry-Émery inequality are of independent interest even in the smooth setting.
In this paper we adapt the well-estabilished $Γ$-calculus techniques to the context of $RCD(K,\infty)$ spaces, proving Bobkov's local isoperimetric inequality and, when $K$ is positive, the Gaussian isoperimetric inequality in this class of spaces. The proof relies on the measure-valued $Γ_2$ operator introduced by Savaré.
The $L^p$ boundedness on vertical Littlewood--Paley square functions for heat flows on $\textup{RCD}(K,\infty)$ spaces with $K\in\mathbb{R}$ is proved. With regards to the proof, for $1<p\leq 2$, Stein's analytical method is applied, while for $2<p<\infty$, the probabilistic approach in the sense of Bañuelos--Bogdan--Luks introduced recently is employed.
We prove that the sharp Buser's inequality obtained in the framework of $\mathsf{RCD}(1,\infty)$ spaces by the first two authors is rigid, i.e. equality is obtained if and only if the space splits isomorphically a Gaussian. The result is new even in the smooth setting. We also show that the equality in Cheeger's inequality is never attained in the setting of $\mathsf{RCD}(K,\infty)$ spaces with finite diameter or positive curvature, and we provide several examples of spaces with Ricci curvature bounded below where these assumptions are not satisfied and the equality is attained.
We prove pointwise and $L^{p}$-gradient comparison results for solutions to elliptic Dirichlet problems defined on open subsets of a (possibly non-smooth) space with positive Ricci curvature (more precisely of an $\mathrm{RCD}(K,N)$ metric measure space, with $K>0$ and $N\in (1,\infty)$). The obtained Talenti-type comparison is sharp, rigid and stable with respect to $L^{2}$/measured-Gromov-Hausdorff topology; moreover, several aspects seem new even for smooth Riemannian manifolds. As applications of such Talenti-type comparison, we prove a series of improved Sobolev-type inequalities, and an …
The goal of the paper is to sharpen and generalise bounds involving the Cheeger's isoperimetric constant $h$ and the first eigenvalue $λ_{1}$ of the Laplacian. A celebrated lower bound of $λ_{1}$ in terms of $h$, $λ_{1}\geq h^{2}/4$, was proved by Cheeger in 1970 for smooth Riemannian manifolds. An upper bound on $λ_{1}$ in terms of $h$ was established by Buser in 1982 (with dimensional constants) and improved (to a dimension-free estimate) by Ledoux in 2004 for smooth Riemannian manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded below. The goal of the paper is two fold. First: we sharpen the inequalities…
We study the canonical heat flow $(\mathsf{H}_t)_{t\geq 0}$ on the cotangent module $L^2(T^*M)$ over an $\mathrm{RCD}(K,\infty)$ space $(M,\mathsf{d},\mathfrak{m})$, $K\in\boldsymbol{\mathrm{R}}$. We show Hess-Schrader-Uhlenbrock's inequality and, if $(M,\mathsf{d},\mathfrak{m})$ is also an $\mathrm{RCD}^*(K,N)$ space, $N\in(1,\infty)$, Bakry-Ledoux's inequality for $(\mathsf{H}_t)_{t\geq 0}$ w.r.t. the heat flow $(\mathsf{P}_t)_{t\geq 0}$ on $L^2(M)$. Variable versions of these estimates are discussed as well. In conjunction with a study of logarithmic Sobolev inequalities for $1$-forms, the …

With a view towards Riemannian or sub-Riemannian manifolds, RCD metric spaces and specially fractals, this paper makes a step further in the development of a theory of heat semigroup based $(1,p)$ Sobolev spaces in the general framework of Dirichlet spaces. Under suitable assumptions that are verified in a variety of settings, the tools developed by D. Bakry, T. Coulhon, M. Ledoux and L. Saloff-Coste in the paper "Sobolev inequalities in disguise" allow us to obtain the whole family of Gagliardo-Nirenberg and Trudinger-Moser inequalities with optimal exponents. The latter depend not only on th…
In this paper we investigate Lott-Sturm-Villani's synthetic lower Ricci curvature bound on Riemannian manifolds with boundary. We prove several measure rigidity results for some important functional and geometric inequalities, which completely characterize ${\rm CD}(K, \infty)$ condition and non-collapsed ${\rm CD}(K, N)$ condition on Riemannian manifolds with boundary. In particular, using $L^1$-optimal transportation theory, we prove that ${\rm CD}(K, \infty)$ condition implies geodesical convexity.
The aim of this paper is to extend the framework of the spectral method for proving property (T) to the class of reflexive Banach spaces and present a condition implying that every affine isometric action of a given group $G$ on a reflexive Banach space $X$ has a fixed point. This last property is a strong version of Kazhdan's property (T) and is equivalent to the fact that $H^1(G,π)=0$ for every isometric representation $π$ of $G$ on $X$. The condition is expressed in terms of $p$-Poincaré constants and we provide examples of groups, which satisfy such conditions and for which $H^1(G,π)$ vani…
We prove geometric rigidity inequalities for incompatible fields in dimension higher than 2. We are able to obtain strong scaling-invariant $L^p$ estimates in the supercritical regime, while for critical exponent $1^* = \frac{n}{n-1}$ we have a scaling invariant inequality only for the weak-$L^1$ norm. Although not optimal, such an estimate in $L^{1 ,\infty}$ is enough in order to infer a useful lemma which gives $BV$ bounds for $SO(n)$-valued fields with bounded Curl.
We strengthen, in two different ways, the so called Borell-Brascamp- Lieb inequality in the class of power concave functions with compact support. As examples of applications we obtain two quantitative versions of the Brunn- Minkowski inequality and of the Urysohn inequality for torsional rigidity.
For metric measure spaces verifying the reduced curvature-dimension condition $CD^*(K,N)$ we prove a series of sharp functional inequalities under the additional assumption of essentially non-branching. Examples of spaces entering this framework are (weighted) Riemannian manifolds satisfying lower Ricci curvature bounds and their measured Gromov Hausdorff limits, Alexandrov spaces satisfying lower curvature bounds and more generally $RCD^*(K,N)$-spaces, Finsler manifolds endowed with a strongly convex norm and satisfying lower Ricci curvature bounds, etc. In particular we prove Brunn-Minkowski…
We study decreasing rearrangements of functions defined on (possibly non-smooth) metric measure spaces with Ricci curvature bounded below by $K>0$ and dimension bounded above by $N\in (1,\infty)$ in a synthetic sense, the so called $CD(K,N)$ spaces. We first establish a Polya-Szego type inequality stating that the $W^{1,p}$-Sobolev norm decreases under such a rearrangement and apply the result to show sharp spectral gap for the $p$-Laplace operator with Dirichlet boundary conditions (on open subsets), for every $p\in (1,\infty)$. This extends to the non-smooth setting a classical result of Bér…
The Cartan-Hadamard conjecture states that, on every $n$-dimensional Cartan-Hadamard manifold $ \mathbb{M}^n $, the isoperimetric inequality holds with Euclidean optimal constant, and any set attaining equality is necessarily isometric to a Euclidean ball. This conjecture was settled, with positive answer, for $n \le 4$. It was also shown that its validity in dimension $n$ ensures that every $p$-Sobolev inequality ($ 1 < p < n $) holds on $ \mathbb{M}^n $ with Euclidean optimal constant. In this paper we address the problem of classifying all Cartan-Hadamard manifolds supporting an optimal fun…
We establish a general weak* lower semicontinuity result in the space $\BD(Ω)$ of functions of bounded deformation for functionals of the form $$\Fcal(u) := \int_Ωf \bigl(x, \Ecal u \bigr) \dd x + \int_Ωf^\infty \Bigl(x, \frac{\di E^s u}{\di \abs{E^s u}} \Bigr) \dd \abs{E^s u} + \int_{\partial Ω} f^\infty \bigl(x, u|_{\partial Ω} \odot n_Ω\bigr) \dd \Hcal^{d-1}$$, $u \in \BD(Ω)$. The main novelty is that we allow for non-vanishing Cantor-parts in the symmetrized derivative $Eu$. The proof is accomplished via Jensen-type inequalities for generalized Young measures and a construction of good blo…
