The existence of dark matter has been established in astrophysics. However, there is no candidate for DM in the Stand Model (SM). In SM, the Higgs boson can only decay invisibly via $H\rightarrow ZZ^\ast \rightarrow ν\barνν\barν$ or DM, so any evidence of invisible Higgs decay that exceeds BR (H$\rightarrow$inv.) will immediately point to a phenomenon that is beyond the standard model (BSM). In this paper, we report on the upper limit of BR (H$\rightarrow$invisible) estimated for three channels, including two leptonic channels and one hadronic channel, under the assumption predicted by SM. With the SM ZH production rate, the upper limit of BR (H$\rightarrow$inv.) could reach 0.24\% at the 95\% confidence level.

We also outline future directions and challenges. In the Addendum, we briefly describe the planning and the international organization of the CEPC. The next step for the CEPC team is to perform detailed technical design studies. …
A strong first-order electroweak phase transition (EWPT) can be induced by light new physics weakly coupled to the Higgs. This study focuses on a scenario in which the first-order EWPT is driven by a light scalar $s$ with a mass between 15-60 GeV. A search for exotic decays of the Higgs boson into a pair of spin-zero particles, $h \to ss$, where the $s$-boson decays into $b$-quarks promptly is presented. The search is performed in events where the Higgs boson is produced in association with a $Z$ boson, giving rise to a signature of two charged leptons (electrons or muons) and multiple jets fr…
Accurately measuring the properties of the Higgs boson is one of the core physics objectives of the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC). As a Higgs factory, the CEPC is expected to operate at a centre-of-mass energy of $240\,GeV$, deliver an integrated luminosity of $5.6\,ab^{-1}$, and produce one million Higgs bosons according to the CEPC Conceptual Design Report (CDR). Combining measurements of the $\ell^+\ell^-H$, $ν\barν H$, and $q\bar{q}H$ channels, we conclude that the signal strength of $H\to b\bar{b}/c\bar{c}/gg$ can be measured with a relative accuracy (statistic uncertainty on…
In this study, Higgs and Z boson associated production with subsequent decay is attempted in the framework of alternative left-right model, which is motivated by superstring-inspired $E_6$ model at CEPC and future linear colliders. We systematically analyze each decay channel of Higgs with theoretical constraints and latest experimental methods. Due to the mixing of scalars in the Higgs sector, charged Higgs bosons can play an essential role in the phenomenological analysis of this process. Even though the predictions of this model for the signal strengths of this process are close to the stan…

The discovery of the Higgs boson with its mass around 125 GeV by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations marked the beginning of a new era in high energy physics. The Higgs boson will be the subject of extensive studies of the ongoing LHC program. At the same time, lepton collider based Higgs factories have been proposed as a possible next step beyond the LHC, with its main goal to precisely measure the properties of the Higgs boson and probe potential new physics associated with the Higgs boson. The Circular Electron Positron Collider~(CEPC) is one of such proposed Higgs factories. The CEPC is an $e…
Fast simulation tools are highly appreciated in particle physics phenomenology studies, especially in the exploration of the physics potential of future experimental facilities. The Circular Electron Positron Collider is a proposed Higgs and Z factory that can precisely measure the Higgs boson properties and the electroweak precision observables. A fast-simulation toolkit dedicated to the CEPC detector has been developed using Delphes. The comparison shows that this fast simulation tool is highly consistent with the full simulation, on a set of benchmark distributions. Therefore, we recommend …
As a Higgs factory, The CEPC (Circular Electron-Positron Collider) project aims at the precise measurement of the Higgs boson properties. A baseline detector concept, APODIS (A PFA Oriented Detector for the HIggS factory), has been proposed for the CEPC CDR (Conceptual Design Report) study. We explore the Higgs signatures at this baseline setup with nunuHiggs events. The detector performance of the charged particles, the photons, and the jets are quantified with Higgs -> mumu, gammagamma, and jet final states respectively. The accuracy of reconstructed Higgs boson mass is comparable at differe…
The cross sections of the Higgs production and the corresponding backgrounds of $e^+e^-$ annihilations at the CEPC (Circular Electron and Positron Collider) are calculated by a Monte-Carlo method, and the beamstruhlung effect at the CEPC is carefully investigated. The potential for new physics beyond the Standard Model at the CEPC is discussed.
The Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) is a large international scientific facility proposed by the Chinese particle physics community to explore the Higgs boson and provide critical tests of the underlying fundamental physics principles of the Standard Model that might reveal new physics. The CEPC, to be hosted in China in a circular underground tunnel of approximately 100 km in circumference, is designed to operate as a Higgs factory producing electron-positron collisions with a center-of-mass energy of 240 GeV. The collider will also operate at around 91.2 GeV, as a Z factory, and a…
The associated production of Higgs boson with a muon pair, $e^+e^-\to μ^+μ^- H$, is one of the golden channels to pin down the properties of the Higgs boson in the prospective Higgs factories exemplified by \textsf{CEPC}. The projected accuracy of the corresponding cross section measurement is about per cent level at CEPC. In this work, we investigate both ${\mathcal O}(α)$ weak correction and the ${\mathcal O}(αα_s)$ mixed electroweak-QCD corrections for this channel, appropriately taking into account the effect of finite $Z^0$ width. The $μ^+μ^-$ invariant mass spectrum is also predicted. Th…
The Circular Electron Positron Collider and International Linear Collider are two electron positron Higgs factories. They are designed to operate at center-of-mass energy of 240 and 250 GeV and accumulate 5.6 and 2 $ab^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. Using CEPC official samples, the signal strength for Higgs to $ττ$ events are analyzed. The combined accuracy of the signal strength for $H\rightarrow ττ$ at CEPC achieves 0.8\%. Extrapolating this analysis to the ILC setup, we conclude the ILC can reach a relative accuracy of 1.1\% or 1.2\%, corresponding to two benchmark settings of the beam pol…
For the first time, the production of a massive dark photon (DP) in the $γe^-$ scattering at the future lepton colliders ILC, CLIC, and CEPC is examined. The invisible decay mode of the DP is addressed. We have studied both the unpolarized scattering and the collision of the Compton backscattered photons with the polarized electron. The missing energy distributions are shown. We have considered the wide range 10 GeV -- 1000 GeV of the DP mass $m_{A'}$. The excluded regions at the 95\% C.L. in the plane $(\varepsilon, m_{A'})$, where $\varepsilon$ is the kinetic mixing parameter, are obtained.
The precision of the yield measurement of the Higgs boson decaying into a pair of $Z$ bosons process at the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) is evaluated. Including the recoil $Z$ boson associated with the Higgs production (Higgsstrahlung) total three $Z$ bosons are involved for this channel, from which final states characterized by the presence of a pair of leptons, quarks, and neutrinos are chosen for the signal. Two analysis approaches are compared and the final precision of $σ_{\mathrm{ZH}}{\cdot}$BR($H \rightarrow ZZ^{*}$) is estimated to be 7.9% using a multivariate analysis te…
The next-generation lepton colliders, such as CEPC, FCC-ee, and ILC will make precision measurement of the Higgs boson properties. We first extract the Higgs coupling precision from Higgs observables at CEPC to illustrate the potential of future lepton colliders. Depending on the related event rates, the precision can reach percentage level for most couplings. Then, we try to estimate the new physics scales that can be indirectly probed with Higgs and electroweak precision observables. The Higgs observables, together with the existing electroweak precision observables, can probe new physics up…
This paper presents the prospects of measuring $σ(e^{+}e^{-}\to ZH)\times Br(H \to γγ)$ in 3 $Z$ decay channels $Z \to q\bar{q} / μ^{+} μ^{-} / ν\barν$ using the baseline detector with $\sqrt{s} = 240 GeV$ at the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) . The simulated Monte Carlo events are generated and scaled to an integrated luminosity of 5.6 $ab^{-1}$ to mimic the data. Extrapolated results to 20 $ab^{-1}$ are also shown. The expected statistical precision of this measurement after combining 3 channels of $Z$ boson decay is 7.7\%. With some preliminary estimation on the systematical unc…

The Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) with a center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}$ = 240 GeV is proposed to serve as a Higgs factory, while it can also provide good opportunity for new physics searches at lower energy, which are difficult in hadron colliders but well-motivated by some theory models such as dark matter. This paper presents the sensitivity study of direct stau / smuon production at CEPC using full Monte Carlo (MC) simulation. With the assumption of flat 5% systematic uncertainty, the CEPC has the potential to discover the production of combined left-handed and right-handed s…
The high-precision measurement of Higgs boson properties is one of the primary goals of the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC). The measurements of $H\to b\bar{b}/c\bar{c}/gg$ decay branching fraction in the CEPC experiment is presented, considering a scenario of analysing 5000 $\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data with the center-of-mass energy of 250 GeV. In this study the Higgs bosons are produced in association with a pair of leptons, dominantly mediated by the $ZH$ production process. The statistical uncertainty of the signal cross section is estimated to be about 1 % in …
Now that the mass of the Higgs boson is known, circular electron positron colliders, able to measure the properties of these particles with high accuracy, are receiving considerable attention. Design studies have been launched (i) at CERN with the Future Circular Colliders (FCC), of which an e+e- collider is a potential first step (FCC-ee, formerly caller TLEP) and (ii) in China with the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC). Hosted in a tunnel of at least 50 km (CEPC) or 80-100 km (FCC), both projects can deliver very high luminosity from the Z peak to HZ threshold (CEPC) and even to the…
We study angular observables in the $e^+e^-\to Z H\to \ell^+ \ell^-\,b\bar{b}$ channel at future circular $e^+ e^-$ colliders such as CEPC and FCC-ee. Taking into account the impact of realistic cut acceptance and detector effects, we forecast the precision of six angular asymmetries at CEPC (FCC-ee) with center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s} =$ 240 GeV and 5 (30) ${\rm ab}^{-1}$ integrated luminosity. We then determine the projected sensitivity to a range of operators relevant for the Higgs-strahlung process in the dimension-6 Higgs EFT. Our results show that angular observables provide complementa…
We look at the prospects for detecting light bosons, $X$, at proposed Z factories assuming a production of $10^{12}$ Z bosons. Such a large yield is within the design goals of future FCC-ee and CEPC colliders. Specifically we look at the cases where $X$ is either a singlet scalar which mixes with the standard model Higgs or a vector boson with mass $1\lesssim M_X \lesssim 80$ GeV. We find that several channels are particularly promising for discovery prospects. In particular $Z\rightarrow f \bar{f} X$ and $Z \rightarrow V_Q X$ gives a promising signal above a very clean standard model backgrou…
The discovery of a 125 GeV Higgs boson at the LHC marked a breakthrough in particle physics. The relative lightness of the new particle inspires the consideration of a high luminosity Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) as a Higgs Factory to study the Higgs boson in a clean environment. At the CEPC, the beamstrahlung might represent one of the most important sources of beam-induced backgrounds that will impact the detector. It will introduce additional backgrounds to the CEPC detector through the subsequent electron-positron pair production and the hadronic process. Therefore its impact…
We investigate the potential of multivariate techniques to improve the LHC search for invisible Higgs decays in weak boson fusion. We find that in the coming runs the LHC will be able to probe an invisible Higgs width of 28% within a year and 3.5% during a high luminosity run. A significant improvement over these estimates requires an analysis of QCD radiation patterns down to 10 GeV. Such an analysis can improve the reach at the high luminosity run to 2%. Throughout our analysis we employ a conservative, data driven background determination.
The Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) is a proposed Higgs/Z factory. The photon reconstruction is critical to its physics program. We study the photon reconstruction at the CEPC baseline detector, a Particle Flow oriented detector. We characterized the objective performance at both single-photon and di-photon samples. At the single-photon sample, we quantify the photon conversion rate, the differential reconstruction efficiency and energy resolution, and the identification performance. Using di-photon samples, our analysis shows that the CEPC baseline detector reaches a relative mass …
We propose a novel method in that quark-gluon tagging of the jets emitted as initial state radiation (ISR) can boost searches of invisible Higgs from gluon fusion processes against irreducible electroweak vector boson productions. While quark ISR typically takes up a dominant portion than gluon in the background processes mainly by frequent quark-gluon initiated hard scatterings at the LHC, gluon ISR portion in the gluon fusion can be significantly larger in the central region of detector. Focusing on invisible Higgs searches using jet substructure variables capturing the new features, we demo…
Observation of Higgs pair production is an important long term objective of the LHC physics program as it will shed light on the scalar potential of the Higgs field and the nature of electroweak symmetry breaking. While numerous studies have examined the impact of new physics on di-Higgs production, little attention has been given to the well-motivated possibility of exotic Higgs decays in this channel. Here we investigate the consequences of exotic invisible Higgs decays in di-Higgs production. We outline a search sensitive to such invisible decays in the $b\bar b+{\not \!\! E}_T$ channel. We…
Although the existence of Dark Matter (DM) has been suggested by various astrophysical observations, it has not yet been discovered today. We can assume a scenario in which the particles that account for the DM can interact with the Standard Model particles only through their couplings with the Higgs sector, the so-called Higgs-portal model. This model can be investigated by collider experiment using the invisible decay of Higgs boson. In this study, we evaluate the search ability of International Linear Collider (ILC) for invisible decay of the Higgs using International Large Detector (ILD) f…
We show that the standard model (SM)-like Higgs boson may decay into neutrinos with a sizable decay branching ratio in one well-known two Higgs doublet model, so-called neutrinophilic Higgs model. This could happen if the mass of the lighter extra neutral Higgs boson is smaller than one half of the SM-like Higgs boson mass. The definite prediction of this scenario is that the rate of the SM-like Higgs boson decay into diphoton normalized by the SM value is about 0.9. In the case that a neutrino is Majorana particle, a displaced vertex of right-handed neutrino decay would be additionally observ…

The LHC is well on track toward the discovery or exclusion of a light Standard Model (SM)-like Higgs boson. Such a Higgs has a very small SM width and can easily have large branching fractions to physics beyond the SM, making Higgs decays an excellent opportunity to observe new physics. Decays into collider-invisible particles are particularly interesting as they are theoretically well motivated and relatively clean experimentally. In this work we estimate the potential of the 7 and 8 TeV LHC to observe an invisible Higgs branching fraction. We analyze three channels that can be used to direct…
We study the decay of the $Z$ vector boson into a photon and a massless (invisible) dark photon in high-energy collisions. The photon can be used as trigger for the event, while the dark photon is detected indirectly as missing momentum in the event final state. We investigate the possibility of searching for such a dark photon at the LHC, HL-LHC and future lepton colliders, and compare the respective sensitivities. As expected, the best result is found for the lepton colliders running at the $Z$ mass, FCC-ee and CEPC, with a final sensitivity to branching ratios of order $O(10^{-11})$. We als…
The existence of dark matter has been established in astrophysics. However, there are no dark matter candidates in the Standard Model~(SM). If the dark matter particles or their mediator can not interact with SM fermions or gauge bosons, the Higgs boson is the only portal to the dark matter. We present a simulation study to search for invisible decays of the Higgs boson at the ILC with the ILD detector.
We show prospects on a search for invisible decays of a Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). This search is performed on a Higgs boson produced in association with a Z boson. We expect that the branching ratio of 17-22% (6-14%) could be excluded at 95% confidence level with 300 fb^{-1} (3000 fb^{-1}) of data at sqrt(s)=14 TeV. The range indicates different assumptions on the control of systematic uncertainties. Interpretations with Higgs-portal dark matter models are also considered.
The design and optimization of the Electromagnetic Calorimeter (ECAL) are crucial for the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) project, a proposed future Higgs/Z factory. Following the reference design of the International Large Detector (ILD), a set of silicon-tungsten sampling ECAL geometries are implemented into the Geant4 simulation, whose performance is then scanned using Arbor algorithm. At single particle level, the photon energy response at different ECAL longitudinal structures is analyzed. At bi-particle sample, the separation performance with different ECAL transverse cell siz…
The semi-constrained NMSSM (scNMSSM), or NMSSM with non-universal Higgs masses, can naturally predict a light dark matter under current constraints including Higgs data, sparticle-mass bounds, dark matter searches, and muon g-2, etc. In this work, we take this scenario of scNMSSM as an example to study the funnel-annihilation mechanisms of light dark matter ($1\!\thicksim\!62$ GeV) and the invisible Higgs decay. In this scenario we found that: (i) There can be four funnel-annihilation mechanisms for the LSP $\tildeχ^0_1$, which are the $h_2$, $Z$, $h_1$ and $a_1$ funnel. (ii) For the $h_1$ and…
We examine the parameter space of the purely phenomenological minimal super- symmetric standard model (MSSM), without assuming any supersymmetry breaking scheme. We find that a large region of the parameter space can indeed yield the lightest neutral Higgs mass around 125 GeV, as suggested by the recent ATLAS data, and also lead to event rates around, or slightly higher than, the standard model expectation in the two-photon and four-lepton channels. Using a lightest neutralino that is considerably lighter than the Higgs, we find that the 'invisible' decay of the Higgs into a pair of neutralino…
After the Higgs discovery, precise measurements of the Higgs properties and the electroweak observables become vital for the experimental particle physics. A powerful Higgs/Z factory, the Circular Electron Positron Collider(CEPC) is proposed. The Particle Flow oriented detector design is proposed to the CEPC and a Particle Flow algorithm, Arbor is optimized accordingly. We summarize the physics object reconstruction performance of the Particle Flow oriented detector design with Arbor algorithm and conclude that this combination fulfills the physics requirement of CEPC.
New physics coupled to the Higgs boson may hide it in the standard decay channels to be investigated at LHC. We consider the models where new invisible dominant decay modes of the Higgs boson are responsible for this hiding. We propose to study at LHC the weak boson production associated with heavy quarks: our analysis revealed that boson pair invariant mass distribution is sensitive to both mass and width of the invisible Higgs boson, if it is not too far from the weak boson pair threshold. We present tree-level results for the most relevant cases of top quarks and of bottom quarks in Standar…
In this paper, we study the observability of an invisible Higgs boson at Fermilab Tevatron and CERN LHC through the production channel $ q \bar{q} \to Z H \to \ell^+\ell^-+ \ptmiss $, where $\ptmiss$ is reconstructed from the $\ell^+\ell^-$ with $\ell=e$ or $μ$. A new strategy is proposed to eliminate the largest irreducible background, namely $ q \bar{q} \to Z(\to \ell^+\ell^-) Z(\to ν\barν)$. This strategy utilizes the precise measurements of $ q \bar{q} \to Z(\to \ell^+\ell^-) Z(\to \ell^+\ell^-)$. For $m_H=120$ GeV and with luminosity $30 fb^{-1}$ at Tevatron, a $5σ$ observation of the inv…
This article is an addendum to Ref.~\cite{Baek:2014jga}. Here, we discuss the invisible Higgs decay width $Γ_{h}^{\rm inv}$ in the Higgs portal vector dark matter (VDM) model in the limit $m_V \rightarrow 0^+$. In the effective field theory (EFT) approach where the VDM mass is attributed to the Stückelberg mechanism, $( Γ_{h}^{\rm inv} )_{\rm EFT}$ is divergent, which is unphysical and puzzling. On the other hand $( Γ_{h}^{\rm inv} )_{\rm UV}$ becomes finite in a UV completion, where the VDM mass is generated by the dark Higgs mechanism. Then we can take the limit $m_V \rightarrow 0^+$ by taki…
We study the possibility of utilising the constrained mass variable, $M_{2Cons}$, in reconstructing the semi-invisible events originated from a resonant production at the LHC. While this proposal is effective for any similar antler type production mechanism, here we demonstrate with potentially interesting scenario, when the Higgs boson decays into a pair of third generation $τ$ leptons. Buoyed with a relatively large Yukawa coupling, the LHC has already started exploring this pair production to investigate the properties of Higgs in the leptonic sector. Dominant signatures through hadronic de…
While the Higgs characterisation programme is well underway, direct signs for new physics beyond the Standard Model remain elusive. Performing a fit of fully differential Higgs production cross sections at the LHC to a subset of Higgs-relevant effective operators, we discuss the extent to which theoretical uncertainties can limit the sensitivity in such a new physics search programme. Extending the dimension-6 Higgs Effective Field Theory framework by introducing new light degrees of freedom that can contribute to an invisible (or undetectable) Higgs decay width $h \to ϕϕ$, we show how differe…
If the Higgs boson were the only particle within the LHC accessible range, precision measurement of the Higgs's properties would play a unique role in studying electroweak symmetry breaking as well as possible new physics. We try to use low energy experiments such as rare B decay to constrain a challenging decay mode of Higgs, in which a Higgs decays to a pair of light (\approx 1 \sim 2 GeV) SM singlet S and becomes invisible. By using the current experimental bound of rare decay B\to Kν\barν and computing the contribution of B\to K SS to (the) B\to K+\cancel{E}, we obtain an upper bound on th…
Using the Higgs boson mass $m_h=125$ GeV, the radiative Higgs decays $h\rightarrowγν_l\barν_l$ with $ν_l = ν_e,\,ν_μ$ and $ν_τ$ are analyzed in the standard model. Our calculation shows that the inclusive width of these processes, i.e., the sum of $Γ(h\toγν_l\barν_l)$ for ${ν_l=ν_e,ν_μ,ν_τ}$, is $1.41$ keV, which is about $15\%$ of $Γ(h\toγγ)$. Therefore, the observation of these channels in the future precise experiments may provide us some useful information on the Higgs physics both in the standard model and in its possible extensions.
Vector boson fusion proposed initially as an alternative channel for finding heavy Higgs has now established itself as a crucial search scheme to probe different properties of the Higgs boson or for new physics. We explore the merit of deep-learning entirely from the low-level calorimeter data in the search for invisibly decaying Higgs. Such an effort supersedes decades-old faith in the remarkable event kinematics and radiation pattern as a signature to the absence of any color exchange between incoming partons in the vector boson fusion mechanism. We investigate among different neural network…
We demonstrate by performing a global fit on Higgs signal strength data that large invisible branching ratios Br_{inv} for a Standard Model (SM) Higgs particle are currently consistent with the experimental hints of a scalar resonance at the mass scale m_h ~ 124 GeV. For this mass scale, we find Br_{inv} < 0.64 (95 % CL) from a global fit to individual channel signal strengths supplied by ATLAS, CMS and the Tevatron collaborations. Novel tests that can be used to improve the prospects of experimentally discovering the existence of a Br_{inv} with future data are proposed. These tests are based…
