Tropical linear representations of the Chinese monoid

Groebner-Shirshov Basis for the Chinese Monoid

In this paper, a Groebner-Shirshov basis for the Chinese monoid is obtained and an algorithm for the normal form of the Chinese monoid is given.

Tropical representations and identities of plactic monoids

We exhibit a faithful representation of the plactic monoid of every finite rank as a monoid of upper triangular matrices over the tropical semiring. This answers a question first posed by Izhakian and subsequently studied by several authors. A consequence is a proof of a conjecture of Kubat and Okniński that every plactic monoid of finite rank satisfies a non-trivial semigroup identity. In the converse direction, we show that every identity satisfied by the plactic monoid of rank $n$ is satisfied by the monoid of $n \times n$ upper triangular tropical matrices. In particular this implies that …

Tropical plactic algebra, the cloaktic monoid, and semigroup representations

A new tropical plactic algebra is introduced in which the Knuth relations are inferred from the underlying semiring arithmetics, encapsulating the ubiquitous plactic monoid $\mathcal{P}_n$. This algebra manifests a natural framework for accommodating representations of $\mathcal{P}_n$, or equivalently of Young tableaux, and its moderate coarsening -- the cloaktic monoid $\mathcal{K}_n$ and the co-cloaktic $ ^{\operatorname{co}}\mathcal{K}_n$. The faithful linear representations of $\mathcal{K}_n$ and $\, ^{\operatorname{co}} \mathcal{K}_n$ by tropical matrices, which constitute a tropical plac…

Tropical Representations and Identities of the Stylic Monoid

We exhibit a faithful representation of the stylic monoid of every finite rank as a monoid of upper unitriangular matrices over the tropical semiring. Thus, we show that the stylic monoid of finite rank $n$ generates the pseudovariety $\boldsymbol{\mathcal{J}}_n$, which corresponds to the class of all piecewise testable languages of height $n$, in the framework of Eilenberg's correspondence. From this, we obtain the equational theory of the stylic monoids of finite rank, show that they are finitely based if and only if $n \leq 3$, and that their identity checking problem is decidable in linear…

Irreducible representations of the Chinese monoid

All irreducible representations of the Chinese monoid $C_n$, of any rank $n$, over a nondenumerable algebraically closed field $K$, are constructed. It turns out that they have a remarkably simple form and they can be built inductively from irreducible representations of the monoid $C_2$. The proof shows also that every such representation is monomial. Since $C_n$ embeds into the algebra $K[C_n]/J(K[C_n])$, where $J(K[C_n])$ denotes the Jacobson radical of the mooned algebra $K[C_n]$, a new representation of $C_n$ as a subdirect product of the images of $C_n$ in the endomorphism algebras of th…

Structure of Chinese algebras

The structure of the algebra K[M] of the Chinese monoid M over a field K is studied. The minimal prime ideals are described. They are determined by certain homogeneous congruences on M and they are in a one to one correspondence with diagrams of certain special type. There are finitely many such ideals. It is also shown that the prime radical B(K[M]) of K[M] coincides with the Jacobson radical and the monoid M embeds into the algebra K[M]/B(K[M]). A new representation of M as a submonoid of the direct product of finitely many copies of the bicyclic monoid and finitely many copies of the infini…

Semigroup identities of tropical matrices through matrix ranks

We prove the conjecture that, for any $n$, the monoid of all $n \times n$ tropical matrices satisfies nontrivial semigroup identities. To this end, we prove that the factor rank of a large enough power of a tropical matrix does not exceed the tropical rank of the original matrix.

Categorical notions of layered tropical algebra and geometry

This paper supplements [17], showing that categorically the layered theory is the same as the theory of ordered monoids (e.g. the max-plus algebra) used in tropical mathematics. A layered theory is developed in the context of categories, together with a "tropicalization functor" which permits us to pass from usual algebraic geometry to the tropical world. We consider tropical varieties from this categorical viewpoint, with emphasis on polynomial functions and their roots.

Free objects in triangular matrix varieties and quiver algebras over semirings

We study the free objects in the variety of semigroups and variety of monoids generated by the monoid of all $n \times n$ upper triangular matrices over a commutative semiring. We obtain explicit representations of these, as multiplicative subsemigroups of quiver algebras over polynomial semirings. In the $2 \times 2$ case this also yields a representation as a subsemigroup of a semidirect product of commutative monoids. In particular, from the case where $n=2$ and the semiring is the tropical semifield, we obtain a representation of the free objects in the monoid and semigroup varieties gener…

Representations and identities of plactic-like monoids

We exhibit faithful representations of the hypoplactic, stalactic, taiga, sylvester, Baxter and right patience sorting monoids of each finite rank as monoids of upper triangular matrices over any semiring from a large class including the tropical semiring and fields of characteristic $0$. By analysing the image of these representations, we show that the variety generated by a single hypoplactic (respectively, stalactic or taiga) monoid of rank at least $2$ coincides with the variety generated by the natural numbers together with a fixed finite monoid $\mathcal{H}$ (respectively, $\mathcal{F}$)…
