The first image of black hole in M87 galaxy taken by Event Horizon Telescope shows that directed observation of supermassive black holes would be a promising way to test general relativity in strong gravity field regime. In order to calculate shadow of rotating black holes with respect to observers located at finite distance, orthonormal tetrads have been introduced in previous works. However, it is noticed that different choice of tetrads does not lead to the same shape of shadow for observers in near regions. In this paper, we alternatively use formula of astrometric observables for calculating the shadow of a general rotating black hole with respect to these observers. For the sake of intuitive, we also consider Kerr-de Sitter black holes as a representative example. In this space-time, size and shape of Kerr-de Sitter black hole shadows are expressed as functions of distance between the black hole and observer. It is forecasted that the distortion of shadow would increase with distance.
Motivated by recent work on rotating black hole shadow [Phys. Rev. D101, 084029 (2020)], we investigate the shadow behaviors of rotating Hayward-de Sitter black hole for static observers at a finite distance in terms of astronomical observables. This paper uses the newly introduced distortion parameter in [arXiv:2006.00685] to describe the shadow's shape quantitatively. We show that the spin parameter would distort shadows and the magnetic monopole charge would increase the degree of deformation. At the same time, the distortion could be relieved because of the cosmological constant and the di…
We revisit the shadows of rotating braneworld black holes in the Randall-Sundrum type II model, by considering not only the metric in the near region of the black hole but also the linearized metric in the far region where the observer stays. Our study is significantly different from previous studies, which relies only on the metric in the near region. From the study, we identify a critical angle $θ_c$ which decides the shadow curve is open or closed: the shadow curve would be open if the observational angle $θ_c<θ_o\leπ/2$, and the curve becomes closed when $0<θ_o\leθ_c$. We study how various…
We study the photon's motion around a black hole in the presence of a plasma whose density is a function of the radius coordinate by a renewed ray-tracing algorithm and investigate the influence of the plasma on the shadow of the black hole. The presence of plasma affects not only the size but also the shape of black hole shadow. Furthermore, the influence of plasma on trajectories of photons depends on the frequency of photon. For the high-frequency photons, the influence is negligible, on the contrary, the trajectories of low-frequency photons is affected significantly by the plasma. Interes…
In a recent work on rotating black hole shadows [Phys. Rev. D{\bf 101}, 084029 (2020)], we proposed a new approach for calculating size and shape of the shadows in terms of astrometrical observables with respect to finite-distance observers. In this paper, we introduce a distortion parameter for the shadow shapes and discuss the appearance of the shadows of static spherical black holes and Kerr black holes in a uniform framework. We show that the shape of the shadow of a spherical black hole is circular in the view of arbitrary observers, and the size of the shadows tends to be shrunk in the v…
Black hole (BH) shadows can be used to probe new physics in the form of ultra-light particles via the phenomenon of superradiant instability. By directly affecting the BH mass and spin, superradiance can lead to a time evolution of the BH shadow, which nonetheless has been argued to be unobservable through Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) over realistic observation timescales. We revisit the superradiance-induced BH shadow evolution including the competing effects of gas accretion and gravitational wave (GW) emission and, as a first step towards modelling realistic new physics scenario…
We revisit to investigate shadows cast by Kerr-like wormholes. The boundary of the shadow is determined by unstable circular photon orbits. We find that, in certain parameter regions, the orbit is located at the throat of the Kerr-like wormhole, which was not considered in the literature. In these cases, the existence of the throat alters the shape of the shadow significantly, and makes it possible for us to differentiate it from that of a Kerr black hole.
We revisit the shadow of rotating traversable wormholes discussing the role of the wormhole throat in the shadow formation. For certain classes of wormholes the throat serves as a potential barrier for light rays with particular impact parameters, thus modifying the shadow shape. We consider a couple of wormhole solutions and examine the structure of their shadow images, and the intrinsic mechanisms for their formation. Some of the shadows possess cuspy edges, which arise due to the interplay of two distinct families of unstable spherical orbits. These solutions provide examples, in which the …
In this paper we revisit and extend the prior work of Filho and Bezerra [Phys. Rev D, 64, 084009 (2001)] to rotating dyonic global monopoles in presence of a perfect fluid. We then show that the surface topology at the event horizon, related to the metric computed, is a 2- sphere using the Gauss-Bonnet theorem. By choosing $ω=-1/3, 0, 1/3$ we investigate the effect of dark matter, dust, radiation on the silhouette of black hole. The presence of the global monopole parameter $γ$ and the perfect fluid parameters $\upsilon$, also deforms the shape of black hole's shadow, which has been depicted t…
This work is geared towards analysis of shadows cast by Kerr-de Sitter (KdS) and Kerr-de Sitter Revisited (RKdS) black holes. Considering observers in the vicinity of the static radius, we derive the impact parameters defining the apparent positions of the shadows. Such observers are of interest to our work because embedding diagrams have shown that de Sitter space-time is analogous to an asymptotically flat one in the vicinity of the static radius. We also perform a comparative analysis between our result with that in Ref.[1]. Furthermore, we numerically obtain the radii of curvature, vertica…

We revisit the classic system of a spherically symmetric black hole in general relativity (i.e., a Schwarzschild black hole) surrounded by a geometrically thin accretion disk. Our purpose is to examine whether one can determine three parameters of this system (i.e., black hole mass $M$, distance between the black hole and an observer $r_o$, inclination angle $i$) solely by observing the accretion disk and the black hole shadow. A point in our analysis is to allow $r_o$ to be finite, which is set to be infinite in most relevant studies. First, it is shown that one can determine the values of $(…

We analyzed the thermodynamics of hypothetical exoplanets at very low Keplerian circular orbits in close vicinity of rapidly spinning supermassive black holes. Such black hole exoplanets are heated by strongly blueshifted and focused flux of the incoming cosmic microwave background (CMB) and cooled by the cold part of the local sky containing the black hole shadow. This gives rise to a temperature difference, which can drive processes far from thermodynamic equilibrium in a hypothetical life form inhabiting black hole exoplanets, similar to the case of a planet heated by the radiation of the p…
As it was pointed out recently in Hees et al. (2017), observations of stars near the Galactic Center with current and future facilities provide an unique tool to test general relativity (GR) and alternative theories of gravity in a strong gravitational field regime. In particular, the authors showed that the Yukawa gravity could be constrained with Keck and TMT observations. Some time ago, Dadhich et al. (2001) showed that the Reissner -- Nordström metric with a tidal charge is naturally appeared in the framework of Randall -- Sundrum model with an extra dimension ($Q^2$ is called tidal charge…
The Galactic centre supermassive black hole (SMBH), in sharp contrast with its complex environment, is characterized by only three classical parameters -- mass, spin, and electric charge. Its charge is poorly constrained. It is, however, usually assumed to be zero because of neutralization due to the presence of plasma. We revisit the question of the SMBH charge and put realistic limits on its value, timescales of charging and discharging, and observable consequences of the potential, small charge associated with the Galactic centre black hole. The electric charge due to classical arguments ba…
