In this contribution we present a a phenomenological analysis of the scalar glueball and scalar meson spectra within AdS/QCD models in the bottom-up approach. In particular, we consider a Light-Front QCD framework which allows to relate the AdS/QCD mode functions to the hadronic wave-functions. Such a procedure is here adopted to analyse the mixing between scalar mesons and glueballs.
The graviton solutions for the glueball spectrum of ref. \cite{Rinaldi:2017wdn} interpreted in a different manner lead to very interesting results which we describe in this comment.
The bottom-up approach of the AdS/CFT correspondence leads to the study of field equations in an $AdS_5$ background and from their solutions to the determination of the hadronic mass spectrum. We extend the study to the equations of $AdS_5$ gravitons and determine from them the glueball spectrum. We propose an original presentation of the results which facilitates the comparison of the various models with the spectrum obtained by lattice QCD. This comparison allows to draw some phenomenological conclusions.
We investigate the spectra of light scalar and vector glueballs in a holografic description of QCD with a dilaton background bulk field. In particular, we study how the glueball masses depend on the conditions on the dilaton background and on the geometry of the bulk.
The graviton soft wall model (GSW) provides a unified description of the scalar glueball and meson spectra with a unique energy scale. This success has led us to extend the analysis to the description of the spectra of other hadrons. We use this model to calculate masses of the odd and even ground states of glueballs for various spins, and show that the GSW model is able to reproduce the Regge trajectory of these systems. In addition, the spectra of the $ρ$, $a_1$ and the $η$ mesons will be addressed. Results are in excellent agreement with current experimental data.Furthermore such an achieve…
We investigate the mass spectra of scalar and vector glueballs in the so-called bottom-up approach of the AdS/QCD correspondence. The holographic model of QCD includes a static dilaton background field. We study the constraints on the masses coming from perturbing the dilaton field and the geometry of the bulk.
A phenomenological analysis of the scalar glueball and scalar meson spectra is carried out by using the AdS/QCD framework in the bottom-up approach. The resulting spectra are in good agreement for glueballs with lattice QCD results and for mesons with PDG data. We make use of the relation between the mode functions in AdS/QCD and the wave functions in Light-Front $QCD$ to discuss the mixing of glueballs and mesons. The results of our investigation point out that above 2 GeV scalar particles will appear in almost degenerate pairs of unmixed glueball and mesons states leading to an interesting p…
We study the spectra of two-gluon glueballs and three-gluon oddballs and corresponding equation of state in $5$-dimensional deformed holographic QCD models in the graviton-dilaton system, where the metric, the dilaton field and dilaton potential are self-consistently solved from each other through the Einstein field equations and the equation of motion of the dilaton field. We compare the models by inputting the dilaton field, inputting the deformed metric and inputting the dilaton potential, and find that with only 2 parameters, the $5$-dimensional holographic QCD model predictions on gluebal…
In this contribution we present results of the calculations of several hadronic spectra within the holographic graviton soft-wall (GSW) model. In particular, we studied and compared with data for the ground state and excitations of: glueballs, scalar, vector, axial and pseudo-scalar mesons. The GSW model is found to be capable to describe these observable with only few parameters.
We study scalar glueballs and scalar mesons at $T \neq 0$ in the soft wall holographic QCD model. We find that, using the Anti-de Sitter-Black Hole metric for all values of the temperature, the masses of the hadronic states decrease and the widths become broader when T increases, and there are temperatures for which the states disappear from the scalar glueball and scalar meson spectral functions. However, the values of the temperatures in correspondence of which such phenomena occur are low, of the order of 40-60 MeV. A consistent holographic description of in-medium effects on hadron propert…
We study the scalar, vector and tensor two-gluon and trigluon glueball spectra in the framework of 5-dimension dynamical holographic QCD model, where the metric structure is deformed self-consistently by the dilaton field. For comparison, the glueball spectra are also calculated in the hard-wall and soft-wall holographic QCD models. In order to distinguish glueballs with even and odd parities, we introduce the positive and negative coupling between the dilaton field and glueballs, and for higher spin glueballs, we introduce a deformed 5-dimension mass. With this set-up, there is only one free …
In this investigation an holographic description of the deconfined phase transition of scalar and tensor glueballs is presented within the so called hard-wall model. The spectra of these bound states of gluons have been calculated from the linearized Einstein equations for a graviton propagating from a thermal $AdS_5$ space to an AdS Black-Hole. In this framework, the deconfined phase is reached via a two steps mechanism. We propose that the transition between the AdS thermal sector to the BH is described via a first order phase transition, with discontinuous masses at the critical temperature…
We discuss our results on scalar glueball decay in the top-down holographic Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto model for low-energy QCD and compare with available experimental data, which appear to disfavor the glueball candidate $f_0(1500)$ but seem to be perfectly consistent with interpreting $f_0(1710)$ as a nearly unmixed glueball. The holographic model moreover makes definite predictions for future experiments.
Properties of the tensor glueball are discussed in the Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto Model, a top-down holographic approach to the non-perturbative region of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD).
Using holographic QCD based on D4-branes and D8-anti-D8-branes, we have computed couplings of glueballs to light mesons. We describe glueball decay by explicitly calculating its decay widths and branching ratios. Interestingly, while glueballs remain less well understood both theoretically and experimentally, our results are found to be consistent with the experimental data for the scalar glueball candidate f_0(1500). More generally, holographic QCD predicts that decay of any glueball to 4 $π_0$ is surpressed, and that mixing of the lightest glueball with $q\bar{q}$ mesons is small.
We use the holographic hardwall model to calculate the masses of light glueball states with odd spin and P= C= -1 associated with odderons. Considering Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions we obtain expressions for the odderon Regge trajectories consistent with those calculated using other approaches.
In this work we propose a modified holographic softwall model, analytically solvable, to calculate the masses of lightest scalar glueball and its radial excitations and of higher spin glueball states for both even and odd spins. From these results we obtain their respective Regge trajectories, associated with the pomeron for even spins and with the odderon for odd spins. These results are in agreement with those calculated using other approaches.
In this work, within an anomalous modified holographic softwall model, we calculate analytically the masses of the scalar glueball with its radial excitations and higher even glueball spin states, with $P=C=+1$, from a single mass equation. Using this approach we achieved an unified treatment for both scalar and high even spin glueballs masses. Furthermore, we also obtain the Regge trajectory associated with the pomeron compatible with other approaches.
Identification of glueballs -- bound states of gauge bosons in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) -- is a very important open question in dynamics of the strong interaction. The search for the glueball ground state, carrying scalar quantum numbers, poses a particular challenge due to the existence of (i) several candidates for its realisation in the physical spectrum and (ii) inevitable mixing of the pure glueball state with those comprised of quarks. In this article, I discuss implications of an approach in holographic QCD where, among others, the mass and the two-pion decay of the pure scalar glue…
The spectrum of the glueball with $J^{PC}=0^{--}$ is computed using different bottom-up holographic models of QCD. The results indicate a lowest-lying state lighter than in the determination by other methods, with mass $m \simeq 2.8$ GeV. The in-medium properties of this gluonium are investigated, and stability against thermal and density effects is compared to other hadronic systems. Production and decay modes are identified, useful for searching the $J^{PC}=0^{--}$ glueball.
The holographic approach to double diffractive Higgs production is presented in terms of exchanging the AdS graviton/Pomeron. The goal is to provide a simple framework for central exclusive production from a dual strong coupling perspective.
In this study we present a unified phenomenological analysis of the scalar glueball and scalar meson spectra within an AdS/QCD framework in the bottom up approach. For this purpose we generalize the recently developed graviton soft-wall (GSW) model, which has shown an excellent agreement with the lattice QCD glueball spectrum, to a description of glueballs and mesons with a unique energy scale. In this scheme, dilatonic effects, are incorporated in the metric as a deformation of the AdS space. We apply the model also to the heavy meson spectra with success. We obtain quadratic mass equations f…
We present new results on the decay patterns of scalar and tensor glueballs in the top-down holographic Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto model. This model, which has only one free dimensionless parameter, gives semi-quantitative predictions for the vector meson spectrum, their decay widths, and also a gluon condensate in agreement with SVZ sum rules. The holographic predictions for scalar glueball decay rates are compared with experimental data for the widely discussed gluon candidates f0(1500) and f0(1710).
The top-down holographic Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto model for low-energy QCD, augmented by finite quark masses, has recently been found to be able to reproduce the decay pattern of the scalar glueball candidate f0(1710) on a quantitative level. In this Letter we show that this model predicts a narrow pseudoscalar glueball heavier than the scalar glueball and with a very restricted decay pattern involving eta or eta' mesons. Production should be either in pairs or in association with eta(') mesons. We discuss the prospect of discovery in high-energy hadron collider experiments through central exclus…
The conditional entropy of glueball states is calculated using a holographic description. Glueball states are represented by a supergravity dual picture, consisting of a 5-dimensional graviton-dilaton action of a dynamical holographic AdS/QCD model. The conditional entropy is studied as a function of the glueball spin and of the mass, providing information about the stability of the glueball states.
The interrelation between the deconfinement temperature of hadron medium and parameters of radial Regge trajectories within the bottom-up holographic models for QCD is scrutinized. We show that the lattice data on the deconfinement temperature can yield a powerful restriction on the spectrum of excited mesons and glueballs within the framework of holographic approach. The best phenomenological agreement and theoretical self-consistency are achieved if the scalar meson $f_0(1500)$ is considered as the lightest glueball.
We study the decay of a pseudovector glueball with quantum numbers $J^{PC}=1^{+-}$, the lightest glueball with spin different from zero or two, in the top-down holographic Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto model. This glueball is dual to the string-theoretic Kalb-Ramond tensor field, which completely fixes all its couplings by gauge invariance and $D$-brane anomaly inflow. The dominant decay channels are determined by a Chern-Simons-like action for the flavor branes; couplings from the Dirac-Born-Infeld action turn out to be subdominant. While the resulting width is parametrically of order $N_c^{-2}λ^{-1}…
A general class of holographic theories with a nontrivial $θ$-angle are analyzed. The instanton density operator is dual to a bulk axion field. We calculate the ground-state solutions with nontrivial source, $a_{UV}$, for the axion, for both steep and soft dilaton potentials in the IR, and both in $d=3$ and $d=4$. We find all cases to be qualitatively similar. We also calculate the spin$=2,0$ glueball spectra and show that the glueball masses monotonically decrease as functions of $a_{UV}$ (or $θ$-angle). The slopes of glueball masses are different, generically, in different potentials. In the…
We revisit the $U(1)_A$ anomaly in the holographic model of low-energy QCD by Witten, Sakai, and Sugimoto, presenting a new and direct derivation of the Witten-Veneziano mechanism for generating the mass of the $η'$ through an anomalous mixing of the Ramond-Ramond $C_1$ field with the singlet component of the pseudoscalar mesons. The latter turns out to have a kinetic mixing with the normalizable modes of the $C_1$ field representing pseudoscalar glueballs, yielding additional vertices for their production and their decay that dominate over those of the unmixed case considered previously in th…
Recently Polchinski and Strassler reproduced the high energy QCD scaling at fixed angles from a gauge string duality inspired in AdS/CFT correspondence. In their approach a confining gauge theory is taken as approximately dual to an AdS space with an IR cut off. Considering such an approximation (AdS slice) we found a one to one holographic mapping between bulk and boundary scalar fields. Associating the bulk fields with dilatons and the boundary fields with glueballs of the confining gauge theory we also found the same high energy QCD scaling. Here, using this holographic mapping we give a si…
We scrutinize various holographic estimations of the deconfinement temperature within the bottom-up AdS/QCD models. A special emphasis is put on the recent idea of isospectral potentials in the holographic approach. It is demonstrated that different models from an isospectral family (i.e., the models leading to identical predictions for the spectrum of hadrons with fixed quantum numbers) result in different predictions for the deconfinement temperature. This difference is found to be quite small in the scalar glueball channel but very large in the vector meson channel which is often used for f…
We announce new results on glueball decay rates in the Sakai-Sugimoto model, a realization of holographic QCD from first principles that has only one coupling constant and an overall mass scale as free parameters. We extend a previous investigation by Hashimoto, Tan, and Terashima who have considered the lowest scalar glueball which arises from a somewhat exotic polarization of supergravity modes and whose mass is uncomfortably small in comparison with lattice results. On the other hand, the scalar glueball dual to the dilaton turns out to have a mass of about twice the mass of the rho meson (…
We investigate light scalar mesons and glueballs in the $Dp-Dq$ hard-wall models, including $D3-Dq$, $D4-Dq$, and $D6-Dq$ systems. It is found that only in the $D4-D6$ and $D4-D8$ hard wall models, the predicted masses of the ${\bar q} q$ scalar meson $f_0$, scalar glueball are consistent with their experimental or lattice results. This indicates that $D4-D6$ and $D4-D8$ hard-wall models are favorite candidates of the realistic holographic QCD model.
We derive and systematically analyze scalar glueball correlation functions in both the hard-wall and dilaton soft-wall approximations to holographic QCD. The dynamical content of the holographic correlators is uncovered by examining their spectral density and by relating them to the operator product expansion, a dilatational low-energy theorem and a recently suggested two-dimensional power correction associated with the short-distance behavior of the heavy-quark potential. This approach provides holographic estimates for the three lowest-dimensional gluon condensates or alternatively their Wil…
We investigate the dynamical content of both hard- and soft-wall approximations to holographic QCD by deriving the corresponding glueball correlation functions and by confronting them with a variety of QCD results. We further calculate the glueball decay constants in both holographic duals, discuss emerging limitations and improvement strategies, and comment on a recent attempt to generalize the glueball correlator in the soft-wall background.
The holographic graviton soft-wall model, introduced to describe the spectrum of scalar and tensor glueballs, is improved to incorporate the realization of chiral-symmetry as in QCD. Such a goal is achieved by including the longitudinal dynamics of QCD into the scheme. Using the relation between AdS/QCD and Light-Front dynamics, we construct the appropriate wave function for the pion which is used to calculate several pion observables. The comparison of our results with phenomenology is remarkably successful.
We study the mixing structure of isospin-singlet scalars, the light quarkonium $(\bar{q}q)$ and glueball $(gg)$ in two-flavor QCD, based on a holographic model of bottom-up hard-wall type. In the model the pure quarkonium and glueball states are unambiguously defined in terms of the different $U(1)_A$ charges in the restoration limit of the chiral $U(2)_L \times U(2)_R$ symmetry, in which the quarkonium gets massless as the chiral partner of the pion. Hence the $\bar{q}q$-$gg$ mixing arises in the presence of the nonzero chiral condensate or pion decay constant. At the realistic point where th…
We review standard holographic derivations of the scalar glueball spectra and emphasize computational assumptions which rely strongly on the original AdS/CFT correspondence, and those which are more arbitrary. In the soft-wall model, we show explicitly that the dual of the spectral mass constraint in the Kallen-Lehmann representation of the 2-point scalar gluonic correlator is an eigenvalue constraint on the motion equation of the bulk field corresponding this correlator.
We investigate effective holographic models for QCD arising from five dimensional Dilaton-Gravity. The models are characterized by a dilaton with a mass term in the UV, dual to a CFT deformation by a relevant operator, and quadratic in the IR. The UV constraint leads to the explicit breaking of conformal symmetry whereas the IR constraint guarantees linear confinement. We propose semi-analytic interpolations between the UV and the IR and obtain a spectrum for scalar and tensor glueballs consistent with lattice QCD data. We use the glueball spectrum as a physical constraint to find the evolutio…
Holographic models of QCD, collectively known as AdS/QCD, have been proven useful in deriving several properties of hadrons. One particular feature well reproduced by such models is the Regge trajectories, both for mesons and glueballs. We focus on scalar and tensor glueballs, and derive an effective theory for the Pomeron by analytic continuation along the leading trajectory from the tensor glueball. It then follows that the Pomeron, as the tensor glueball itself, should possess a two-index polarization tensor, inherited from the graviton. The three-graviton interaction is deduced from the Ei…
We study non-spinning Q-balls and boson stars in 4-dimensional Anti-de Sitter (AdS) space-time. We use an exponential scalar field potential that appears in gauge-mediated supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM). We investigate the dependence of the charge and mass of these non-topological solitons on the negative cosmological constant, the frequency that appears in the periodic time-dependence as well as on the ratio between the SUSY breaking scale and the Planck mass. Next to fundamental solutions without nodes in the scalar field fu…
In the holographic or AdS/CFT dual to QCD, the Pomeron is identified with a Reggeized Graviton in $AdS_5$. We emphasize the importance of confinement, which in this context corresponds to a deformation of $AdS_5$ geometry in the IR. The holographic Pomeron provides a very good fit to the combined data from HERA for Deep Inelastic Scattering at small $x$, lending new confidence to this AdS dual approach to high energy diffractive scattering.
The properties of scalar mesons and glueballs at finite temperature are analyzed through a {\it bottom-up} holographic approach. We focus on the spectral functions and mass spectra. A discussion on hadron dissociation and deconfinement phase transition is also put forward.
In this work, we offer a dynamical soft-wall model to describe the gluodynamics and chiral dynamics in one systematical framework. We firstly construct a quenched dynamical holographic QCD (hQCD) model in the graviton-dilaton framework for the pure gluon system, then develop a dynamical hQCD model for the two flavor system in the graviton-dilaton-scalar framework by adding light flavors on the gluodynamical background. For two forms of dilaton background field $Φ=μ_G^2z^2$ and $Φ=μ_G^2z^2\tanh(μ_{G^2}^4z^2/μ_G^2)$, the quadratic correction to dilaton background field at infrared encodes import…
The holographic approach to double diffractive Higgs production is presented for the AdS graviton/Pomeron. The goal is to provide a predictive phenomenology for the strong coupling expansion of QCD. This is the first step to set up the framework for the double diffractive Higgs production in anticipation of experimental observations at the LHC. Comparisons are made with the weak coupling approach based on the BFKL Pomeron models and soft Regge parameterizations.
The top-down type IIB holographic dual of large-$N$ thermal QCD as constructed in arXiv:0902.1540 involving a fluxed resolved warped deformed conifold, its delocalized type IIA SYZ mirror as well as its M-theory uplift constructed in arXiv:1306.4339 - both in the finite gauge coupling ($g_s\stackrel{<}{\sim}1$)/`MQGP' limit of arXiv:1306.4339 - were shown explicitly to possess a local $SU(3)/G_2$-structure in arXiv:1507.02692 Glueball spectroscopy at finite gauge coupling has thus far been missing in the literature. In this paper, we fill this gap by calculating the masses of the $0^{++}, 0^{-…
Recently there has been a notable progress in the study of glueball states in lattice gauge theories, in particular extrapolating their spectrum to the limit of large number of colors $N$. In this note we compare the large $N$ lattice results with the holographic predictions, focusing on the Klebanov-Strassler model. We note that glueball spectrum demonstrates approximate universality across a range of gauge theory models. Because of this universality the holographic models can give reliable predictions for the spectrum of pure $SU(N)$ Yang-Mills theories with and without supersymmetry. This i…
The D-term is one of the conserved charges of hadrons defined as the forward limit of the gravitational form factor $D(t)$. We calculate the nucleon's D-term in a holographic QCD model in which the nucleon is described as a soliton in five dimensions. We show that the form factor $D(t)$ is saturated by the exchanges of infinitely many $0^{++}$ and $2^{++}$ glueballs dual to transverse-traceless metric fluctuations on the Wick rotated AdS$_7$ black hole geometry. We refer to this phenomenon as `glueball dominance', in perfect analogy to the vector meson dominance of the electromagnetic form fac…
We investigate the AdS/QCD duality for the two-point correlation functions of the lowest dimension scalar meson and scalar glueball operators, in the case of the Soft Wall holographic model of QCD. Masses and decay constants as well as gluon condensates are compared to their QCD estimates. In particular, the role of the boundary conditions for the bulk-to-boundary propagators is emphasized.
We revisit and extend previous calculations of glueball decay rates in the Sakai-Sugimoto model, a holographic top-down approach for QCD with chiral quarks based on D8 probe branes in Witten's holographic model of nonsupersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. The rates for decays into two pions, two vector mesons, four pions, and the strongly suppressed decay into four pi0 are worked out quantitatively, using a range of the 't Hooft coupling which closely reproduces the decay rate of rho and omega mesons and also leads to a gluon condensate consistent with QCD sum rule calculations. The lowest holograp…
This paper is a continuation of ArXiv:0707.1324 where improved holographic theories for QCD were set up and explored. Here, the IR confining geometries are classified and analyzed. They all end in a "good" (repulsive) singularity in the IR. The glueball spectra are gaped and discrete, and they favorably compare to the lattice data. Quite generally, confinement and discrete spectra imply each other. Asymptotically linear glueball masses can also be achieved. Asymptotic mass ratios of various glueballs with different spin also turn out to be universal. Mesons dynamics is implemented via space fi…
In this paper we describe a pseudoscalar subsector of the Klebanov-Strassler model. This subsector completes the holographic reconstruction of the spectrum of the lowest-lying glueball states, which are singlet under the global symmetry group $SU(2)\times SU(2)$. We derive the linearized supergravity equations for the pseudoscalar fluctuations and analyze their spectrum. The system of equation is shown to be compatible with six eigenmodes, as expected from supersymmetry. Our numerical analysis allows to reliably extract four of the corresponding towers. Their values match well the eigenvalues …
The semi-phenomenological improved holographic model for QCD is confronted with data of the pure glue, large-Nc gauge theory. After fitting two phenomenological parameters in the potential, the model can reproduce in detail all thermodynamic functions at finite temperature. It also reproduces in detail all known spin-0 and spin-2 glueball observables at zero temperature and predicts the rest of the 0++ and 2++ towers. A similar two parameter fit in the CP-odd sector postdicts the correct second 0+- glueball mass, and predicts the rest of the 0+- tower.
