A general class of holographic theories with a nontrivial $θ$-angle are analyzed. The instanton density operator is dual to a bulk axion field. We calculate the ground-state solutions with nontrivial source, $a_{UV}$, for the axion, for both steep and soft dilaton potentials in the IR, and both in $d=3$ and $d=4$. We find all cases to be qualitatively similar. We also calculate the spin$=2,0$ glueball spectra and show that the glueball masses monotonically decrease as functions of $a_{UV}$ (or $θ$-angle). The slopes of glueball masses are different, generically, in different potentials. In the case of steep dilaton potentials, the glueball (masses)$^2$ turn negative before the maximum of $a_{UV}$ is attained. We interpret this as a signal for a favored instanton condensation in the bulk. We also investigate strong CP-violation in the effective glueball action.
Recently there has been a notable progress in the study of glueball states in lattice gauge theories, in particular extrapolating their spectrum to the limit of large number of colors $N$. In this note we compare the large $N$ lattice results with the holographic predictions, focusing on the Klebanov-Strassler model. We note that glueball spectrum demonstrates approximate universality across a range of gauge theory models. Because of this universality the holographic models can give reliable predictions for the spectrum of pure $SU(N)$ Yang-Mills theories with and without supersymmetry. This i…
In this paper we describe a pseudoscalar subsector of the Klebanov-Strassler model. This subsector completes the holographic reconstruction of the spectrum of the lowest-lying glueball states, which are singlet under the global symmetry group $SU(2)\times SU(2)$. We derive the linearized supergravity equations for the pseudoscalar fluctuations and analyze their spectrum. The system of equation is shown to be compatible with six eigenmodes, as expected from supersymmetry. Our numerical analysis allows to reliably extract four of the corresponding towers. Their values match well the eigenvalues …
The D-term is one of the conserved charges of hadrons defined as the forward limit of the gravitational form factor $D(t)$. We calculate the nucleon's D-term in a holographic QCD model in which the nucleon is described as a soliton in five dimensions. We show that the form factor $D(t)$ is saturated by the exchanges of infinitely many $0^{++}$ and $2^{++}$ glueballs dual to transverse-traceless metric fluctuations on the Wick rotated AdS$_7$ black hole geometry. We refer to this phenomenon as `glueball dominance', in perfect analogy to the vector meson dominance of the electromagnetic form fac…
Top-down holographic QCD models often work in the "probe" (or "quenched") limit, which assumes that the number of colors is much greater than the number of flavors. Relaxing this limit is essential to a fuller understanding of holography and more accurate phenomenological predictions. In this work, we focus on a mixing of glueball and meson mass eigenstates that arises from the DBI action as a finite Nf/Nc effect. For concreteness, we work in the Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto model, and show that this mixing must be treated in conjunction with the backreaction of the flavor branes onto the background …
In this contribution we present results of the calculations of several hadronic spectra within the holographic graviton soft-wall (GSW) model. In particular, we studied and compared with data for the ground state and excitations of: glueballs, scalar, vector, axial and pseudo-scalar mesons. The GSW model is found to be capable to describe these observable with only few parameters.
Here, we calculate the pseudo-scalar glueball mass at finite temperature from the holographic QCD in $3+1$ dimensions. The decoupled geometry of the non-supersymmetric (non-susy) D$3$ brane at the finite temperature which is the solution of the type-II supergravity is considered as the dual theory of QCD. We calculate the mass spectrum from the axion fluctuation in this gravity background using WKB approximations. Approximating the WKB equation for various orders of mass, we derive the analytical expressions of the mass spectrum of $0^{-+}$ at the finite temperature. Finally we evaluate the ma…
In this work, we first derive the corrections to the instanton configuration of the flavored gauge field in the D4-D8 model with generic flavor numbers. Then, as the instanton configuration on the D8-branes represents equivalently baryon in this model, keeping our corrections in hand, we systemically study the spectrum of baryon, heavy-light baryon or heavy-light meson and find it is possible to fit the experimental data with the meson data in this model. Besides, we briefly outline how to include the interaction of glueball and heavy-light meson or baryon with our corrections, evaluate numeri…

We develop a method to detect instabilities leading to nematic phases in strongly coupled metallic systems. We do so by adapting the well-known Pomeranchuk technique to a weakly coupled system of fermions in a curved asymptotically AdS bulk. The resulting unstable modes are interpreted as corresponding to instabilities on the dual strongly coupled holographic metal. We apply our technique to a relativistic $3+1$-dimensional bulk with generic quartic fermionic couplings, and explore the phase diagram at zero temperature for finite values of the fermion mass and chemical potential, varying the c…
