Soliton solutions are studied for paraxial wave propagation with intensity-dependent dispersion. Although the corresponding Lagrangian density has a singularity, analytical solutions, derived by the pseudo-potential method and the corresponding phase diagram, exhibit one- and two-humped solitons with almost perfect agreement to numerical solutions. The results obtained in this work reveal a hitherto unexplored area of soliton physics associated with nonlinear corrections to wave dispersion.
We address the existence and properties of one-dimensional solitons maintained by localized parameter gain in focusing and defocusing lossy nonlinear media. Localized parametric gain supports both fundamental and multipole solitons. We found that the family of fundamental solitons is partly stable in focusing nonlinear medium, and completely stable in defocusing medium, while all higher-order solitons are unstable. In addition to numerical results, the existence threshold for the solitons, and a particular stable exact solution are obtained in an exact analytical form.
We reveal that lattice interfaces imprinted in nonlocal nonlinear media support surface solitons that do not exist in other similar settings, including interfaces of local and nonlocal uniform materials. We show the impact of nonlocality on the domains of existence and stability of the surface solitons, focusing on new types of dipole solitons residing partially inside the optical lattice. We find that such solitons feature strongly asymmetric shapes and that they are stable in large parts of their existence domain.
We uncover that, in contrast to the common belief, stable dissipative solitons exist in media with uniform gain in the presence of nonuniform cubic losses, whose local strength grows with coordinate x (in one dimension) faster than |x|. The spatially-inhomogeneous absorption also supports new types of solitons, that do not exist in uniform dissipative media. In particular, single-well absorption profiles give rise to spontaneous symmetry breaking of fundamental solitons in the presence of uniform focusing nonlinearity, while stable dipoles are supported by double-well absorption landscapes. Di…
We show that the balance between localized gain and nonlinear cubic dissipation in the twodimensional nonlinear Schrodinger equation allows for existence of stable two-dimensional localized modes which we identify as solitons. Such modes exist only when the gain is strong enough and the energy flow exceeds certain threshold value. The observed solitons neither undergo diffractive spreading nor collapse. Above the critical value of the gain the symmetry breaking occurs and asymmetric dissipative solitons emerge.
We discover that a spatially localized gain supports stable vortex solitons in media with cubic nonlinearity and two-photon absorption. The interplay between nonlinear losses and gain in amplifying rings results in suppression of otherwise ubiquitous azimuthal modulation instabilities of radially symmetric vortex solitons. We uncover that the topology of the gain profile imposes restrictions on the maximal possible charge of vortex solitons. Symmetry breaking occurs at high gain levels resulting in the formation of necklace vortex solitons composed of asymmetric bright spots.
We demonstrate that fractional cubic-quintic nonlinear Schrödinger equation, characterized by its Lévy index, maintains ring-shaped soliton clusters ("necklaces") carrying orbital angular momentum. They can be built, in the respective optical setting, as circular chains of fundamental solitons linked by a vortical phase field. We predict semi-analytically that the metastable necklace-shaped clusters persist, corresponding to a local minimum of an effective potential of interaction between adjacent solitons in the cluster. Systematic simulations corroborate that the clusters stay robust over ext…
We show that an inhomogeneous defocusing nonlinearity that grows toward the periphery in the positive and negative transverse directions at different rates can support strongly asymmetric fundamental and multipole bright solitons, which are stable in wide parameter regions. In the limiting case when nonlinearity is uniform in one direction, solitons transform into stable domain walls (fronts), with constant or oscillating intensity in the homogeneous region, attached to a tail rapidly decaying in the direction of growing nonlinearity.
We show that ring-like localized gain landscapes imprinted in focusing cubic (Kerr) nonlinear media with strong two-photon absorption support new types of stable higher-order vortex solitons containing multiple phase singularities nested inside a single core. The phase singularities are found to rotate around the center of the gain landscape, with the rotation period being determined by the strength of the gain and the nonlinear absorption.
We consider bright solitons supported by a symmetric inhomogeneous defocusing nonlinearity growing rapidly enough toward the periphery of the medium, combined with an antisymmetric gain-loss profile. Despite the absence of any symmetric modulation of the linear refractive index, which is usually required to establish a PT-symmetry in the form of a purely real spectrum of modes, we show that the PT-symmetry is never broken in the present system, and that the system always supports stable bright solitons, fundamental and multi-pole ones. Such phenomenon is connected to non-linearizability of the…
The effects of long-range intermolecular interactions on characteristic features of soliton bound states, consisting of localized excitons and polaritons in molecular crystals interacting with a high-intensity optical field, are investigated. Analytical solutions to the resulting modified nonlinear Schrödinger equation are obtained in terms of elliptic-type bright- and dark-soliton structures, which are assumed to correspond to periodic trains of pulse solitons and kink solitons respectively. Long-range intermolecular interactions are shown to renormalize the exciton-polariton interaction stre…
We propose two models for the creation of stable dissipative solitons in optical media with the $χ^{(2)}$ (quadratic) nonlinearity. To compensate spatially uniform loss in both the fundamental-frequency (FF) and second-harmonic (SH) components of the system, a strongly localized "hot spot", carrying the linear gain, is added, acting either on the FF component, or on the SH one. In both systems, we use numerical methods to find families of dissipative $χ^{(2)}$ solitons pinned to the "hot spot". The shape of the existence and stability domains may be rather complex. An existence boundary for th…
Stability of off-site vortex solitons in a photorefractive optical lattice is analyzed. It is shown that such solitons are linearly unstable in both the high and low intensity limits. In the high-intensity limit, the vortex looks like a familiar ring vortex, and it suffers oscillatory instabilities. In the low-intensity limit, the vortex suffers both oscillatory and Vakhitov-Kolokolov instabilities. However, in the moderate-intensity regime, the vortex becomes stable if the lattice intensity or the applied voltage is above a certain threshold value. Stability regions of vortices are also deter…
We introduce a model of one- and two-dimensional (1D and 2D) optical media with the $χ^{(2)}$ nonlinearity whose local strength is subject to cusp-shaped spatial modulation, $χ^{(2)}\sim r^{-α}$, with $α>0$, which can be induced by spatially nonuniform poling. Using analytical and numerical methods, we demonstrate that this setting supports 1D and 2D fundamental solitons, at $α<1$ and $α<2$, respectively. The 1D solitons have a small instability region, while the 2D solitons have a stability region at $α<0.5$ and are unstable at $α>0.5$. 2D solitary vortices are found too. They are unstable, s…
We address the impact of asymmetric nonlocal diffusion nonlinearity on the properties of gap solitons supported by photorefractive crystal with an imprinted optical lattice. We reveal how the asymmetric nonlocal response alters the domains of existence and the stability of solitons originating from different gaps. We find that in such media gap solitons cease to exist above a threshold of the nonlocality degree. We discuss how the interplay between nonlocality and lattice strength modifies the gap soliton mobility.
We consider settings providing the existence of stable two-dimensional (2D) dissipative solitons with zero and nonzero vorticity in optical media with the quadratic ($χ^{(2)}$) nonlinearity. To compensate the spatially uniform loss in both the fundamental-frequency (FF) and second-harmonic (SH) components of the system, a strongly localized amplifying region ("hot spot",HS), carrying the linear gain, is included, acting onto either the FF component or SH one. In both cases, the Gaussian radial gain profile supports stable fundamental dissipative solitons pinned to the HS. The structure of exis…
We study composite spatial optical solitons supported by two-wave mutual focusing induced by cross-phase modulation in Kerr-like nonlinear media. We find the families of both single- and two-hump solitons and discuss their properties and stability. We also reveal remarkable similarities between recently predicted holographic solitons in photorefractive media and parametric solitons in quadratic nonlinear crystals.
We discover the formation of a temporal boundary soliton (TBS) in the close proximity of a temporal boundary, moving in a nonlinear optical medium, upon high-intensity pulse collision with the boundary. We show that the TBS excitation causes giant intensity fluctuations in reflection (transmission) from (through) the temporal boundary even for very modest input pulse intensity fluctuations. We advance a statistical theory of the phenomenon and show that the TBS emerges as an extremely rare event in a nonintegrable nonlinear system, heralded by colossal intensity fluctuations with unprecedented…
We discover the existence of vortex solitons supported by the surface between two optical lattices imprinted in Kerr-type nonlinear media. Such solitons can feature strongly noncanonical profiles, and we found that their properties are dictated by the location of the vortex core relative to the surface. The refractive index modulation forming the lattices at both sides of the interface results in complete stability of the vortex solitons in wide domains of their existence, thus introducing the first known example of stable topological solitons supported by a surface.
We address the existence and stability of two-dimensional solitons in optical or matter-wave media, which are supported by purely nonlinear lattices in the form of a periodic array of cylinders with self-focusing nonlinearity, embedded into a linear material. We show that such lattices can stabilize two-dimensional solitons against collapse. We also found that stable multipoles and vortex solitons are also supported by the nonlinear lattices, provided that the nonlinearity exhibits saturation.
The creation of stable 1D and 2D localized modes in lossy nonlinear media is a fundamental problem in optics and plasmonics. This article gives a short review of theoretical methods elaborated for this purpose, using localized gain applied at one or several "hot spots" (HSs). The introduction surveys a broad class of models for which this approach was developed. Other sections focus in some detail on basic 1D continuous and discrete systems, where the results can be obtained, partly or fully, in an analytical form (verified by comparison with numerical results), which provides a deeper insight…
We revisit the collisional dynamics of bright solitons in the coupled Nonlinear Schrodinger equation. We observe that apart from the intensity redistribution in the interaction of bright solitons, one also witnesses a rotation of the trajectories of bright solitons . The angle of rotation can be varied by suitably manipulating the Self-Phase Modulation (SPM) or Cross Phase Modulation (XPM) parameters. The rotation of the trajectories of the bright solitons arises due to the excess energy that is injected into the dynamical system through SPM or XPM. This extra energy not only contributes to the…
We demonstrate analytically and numerically the existence of exact solitons in the form of double-kink and fractional-transform, supported by a symmetric transversally modulated defocusing nonlinearity acting as a psuedopotential combined with an antisymmetric gain-loss profile. We explicate here that the $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry is never broken in the dynamical system under study, even in the absence of any symmetric modulation of linear refractive-index, and the transversally modulated defocusing nonlinearity comes in the way as a requirement to establish the ensuing $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry.
An optical trapping scheme is proposed by which ultrashort low-amplitude radiations, co-propagating with a continuous train of temporal pulses in a hollow-core photonic crystal fiber filled with Raman-inactive noble gases, can be trapped and reshaped into optical soliton trains by means of cross-phase modulation interactions. The scheme complements and extends a recently proposed idea that a single-pulse soliton could trap an ultrashort small-amplitude radiation in a symmetric hollow-core photonic crystal fiber filled with a noble gas, thus preventing its dispersion [M. F. Saleh and F. Biancal…
We demonstrate the formation of bright solitons in coupled defocusing nonlinear Schroedinger (NLS) equation supported by attractive coupling. As an application we use a time-dependent dynamical mean-field model to study the formation of stable bright solitons in two-component repulsive Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) supported by interspecies attraction in a quasi one-dimensional geometry. When all interactions are repulsive, there cannot be bright solitons. However, bright solitons can be formed in two-component repulsive BECs for a sufficiently attractive interspecies interaction, which ind…
We study fundamental and compound gap solitons (GSs) of matter waves in one-dimensional (1D) optical lattices (OLs) in a three-dimensional (3D) weak-radial-confinement regime, which corresponds to realistic experimental conditions in Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs). In this regime GSs exhibit nontrivial radial structures. Associated with each 3D linear spectral band exists a family of fundamental gap solitons that share a similar transverse structure with the Bloch waves of the corresponding linear band. GSs with embedded vorticity $m$ may exist \emph{inside} bands corresponding to other valu…
We show that the quadratic interaction of fundamental and second harmonics in a bulk dispersive medium, combined with self-defocusing cubic nonlinearity, give rise to completely localized spatiotemporal solitons (vortex tori) with vorticity s=1. There is no threshold necessary for the existence of these solitons. They are found to be stable against small perturbations if their energy exceeds a certain critical value, so that the stability domain occupies about 10% of the existence region of the solitons. We also demonstrate that the s=1 solitons are stable against very strong perturbations ini…
A model of the optical media with a spatially structured Kerr nonlinearity is introduced. The nonlinearity strength is modulated by a set of singular peaks on top of a self-focusing or defocusing uniform background. The peaks may include a repulsive or attractive linear potential too. We find that a pair of mutually symmetric peaks readily gives rise to the spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB) of modes pinned to individual peaks, while antisymmetric pinned modes are always unstable, transforming into robust spatially odd breathers. Three- and five-peak structures support symmetric modes, with i…
We have presented theoretical and numerical studies on interactions of dispersive waves with second order solitons. Disperive wave with considerable intensity resonantly colliding with the second order solitons can lead to acceleration/decceleration of the later with subsequent central frequency shifts, but still well preserve the oscillating structure of the 2-solitons. The 2-soliton creates an effective periodical refractive index profile and thus reflected and transmitted dispersive waves generate new spectral bands with sharp peak structures. When resonant dispersive waves interact with tw…
We show how novel types of long-lived self-localized matter waves can be constructed with Bose-Einstein condensates. The ingredients leading to such structures are a spatial phase generating a flux of atoms towards the condensate center and the dissipative mechanism provided by the inelastic three-body collisions in atomic Bose-Einstein condensates. The outcome is an striking example of nonlinear structure supported by dissipation.
The real spectrum of bound states produced by PT-symmetric Hamiltonians usually suffers breakup at a critical value of the strength of gain-loss terms, i.e., imaginary part of the complex potential. On the other hand, it is known that the PT-symmetry can be made unbreakable in a one-dimensional (1D) model with self-defocusing nonlinearity whose strength grows fast enough from the center to periphery. The model is nonlinearizable, i.e., it does not have a linear spectrum, while the (unbreakable) PT symmetry in it is defined by spectra of continuous families of nonlinear self-trapped states (sol…
We introduce a setting based on the one-dimensional (1D) nonlinear Schroedinger equation (NLSE) with the self-focusing (SF) cubic term modulated by a singular function of the coordinate, |x|^{-a}. It may be additionally combined with the uniform self-defocusing (SDF) nonlinear background, and with a similar singular repulsive linear potential. The setting, which can be implemented in optics and BEC, aims to extend the general analysis of the existence and stability of solitons in NLSEs. Results for fundamental solitons are obtained analytically and verified numerically. The solitons feature a …
We report on the spin properties of bright polariton solitons supported by an external pump to compensate losses. We observe robust circularly polarised solitons when a circularly polarised pump is applied, a result attributed to phase synchronisation between nondegenerate TE and TM polarised polariton modes at high momenta. For the case of a linearly polarised pump either s+ or s- circularly polarised bright solitons can be switched on in a controlled way by a s+ or s- writing beam respectively. This feature arises directly from the widely differing interaction strengths between co- and cross…
We demonstrate that modulation of the local strength of the cubic self-focusing (SF) nonlinearity in the two-dimensional (2D) geometry, in the form of a circle with contrast $Δg$ of the SF coefficient relative to the ambient medium with a weaker nonlinearity, stabilizes a family of fundamental solitons against the critical collapse. The result is obtained in an analytical form, using the variational approximation (VA) and Vakhitov-Kolokolov (VK) stability criterion, and corroborated by numerical computations. For the small contrast, the stability interval of the soliton's norm scales as $ΔN\si…
We demonstrate that, with the help of a Gaussian potential barrier, dark modes in the form of a local depression ("bubbles") can be supported by the repulsive Kerr nonlinearity in combination with fractional dimension. Similarly, W-shaped modes are supported by a double potential barrier. Families of the modes are constructed in a numerical form, and also by means of the Thomas-Fermi and variational approximations. All these modes are stable, which is predicted by computation of eigenvalues for small perturbations and confirmed by direct numerical simulations.
We obtain an accurate estimate for the peak intensities of multi-soliton complexes for a Kerr-type nonlinearity in the (1+1) - dimension problem. Using exact analytical solutions of the integrable set of nonlinear Schrodinger equations, we establish a rigorous relationship between the eigenvalues of incoherently-coupled fundamental solitons and the range of admissible intensities. A clear geometrical interpretation of this effect is given.
Nonlinear periodic systems, such as photonic crystals and Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) loaded into optical lattices, are often described by the nonlinear Schrödinger/Gross-Pitaevskii equation with a sinusoidal potential. Here, we consider a model based on such a periodic potential, with the nonlinearity (attractive or repulsive) concentrated either at a single point or at a symmetric set of two points, which are represented, respectively, by a single δ-function or a combination of two δ-functions. This model gives rise to ordinary solitons or gap solitons (GSs), which reside, respectively,…
We report a novel spontaneous symmetry breaking phenomenon and ghost states existed in the framework of the fractional nonlinear Schrödinger (FNLS) equation with focusing saturable nonlinearity and PT-symmetric potential. The continuous asymmetric soliton branch bifurcates from the fundamental symmetric one as the power exceeds some critical value. Intriguingly, the symmetry of fundamental solitons is broken into two branches of asymmetry solitons (alias ghost states) with complex conjugate propagation constants, which is solely in fractional media. Besides, the dipole (antisymmetry) and tripo…
It was recently found that excited states of semi-vortex and mixed-mode solitons are unstable in spin-orbit-coupled Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) with contact interactions. We demonstrate a possibility to stabilize such excited states in a setting based on repulsive dipole-dipole interactions induced by a polarizing field, oriented perpendicular to the plane in which the dipolar BEC is trapped. The strength of the field is assumed to grow in the radial direction $\sim $ $r^{4}$. Excited states of semi-vortex solitons have vorticities $S$ and $S+1$ in their two components, each being an eige…
We put forward properties of solitons supported by optical lattices featuring topological dislocations, and show that solitons experience attractive and repulsive forces around the dislocations. Suitable arrangements of dislocations are even found to form soliton traps, and the properties of such solitons are shown to crucially depend on the trap topology. The uncovered phenomenon opens a new concept for soliton control and manipulation, e.g., in disk-shaped Bose-Einstein condensates.
We demonstrate the existence of one and two-dimensional bright solitons in the Bose-Einstein condensate with repulsive dipole-dipole interactions induced by a combination of dc and ac polarizing fields, oriented perpendicular to the plane in which the BEC is trapped, assuming that the strength of the fields grows in the radial ($r$) direction faster than $r^{3}$. Stable tightly confined 1D and 2D fundamental solitons, twisted solitons in 1D, and solitary vortices in 2D are found in a numerical form. The fundamental solitons remain robust under the action of an expulsive potential, which is ind…
We investigate the mobility of nonlinear localized modes in a generalized discrete Ginzburg-Landau type model, describing a one-dimensional waveguide array in an active Kerr medium with intrinsic, saturable gain and damping. It is shown that exponentially localized, traveling discrete dissipative breather-solitons may exist as stable attractors supported only by intrinsic properties of the medium, i.e., in absence of any external field or symmetry-breaking perturbations. Through an interplay by the gain and damping effects, the moving soliton may overcome the Peierls-Nabarro barrier, present i…
We address the properties of multi-vortex soliton complexes supported by multi-ring gain landscapes in focusing Kerr nonlinear media with strong two-photon absorption. Stable complexes incorporating two, three, or four vortices featuring opposite or identical topological charges are shown to exist. In the simplest geometries with two amplifying rings vortex twins with equal topological charges exhibit asymmetric intensity distributions, while vortex anti-twins may be symmetric or asymmetric, depending on the gain level and separation between rings. Different arrangements of amplifying rings al…
Black solitons are identical in the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation with intensity-dependent dispersion and the cubic defocusing NLS equation. We prove that the intensity-dependent dispersion introduces new properties in the stability analysis of the black soliton. First, the spectral stability problem possesses only isolated eigenvalues on the imaginary axis. Second, the energetic stability argument holds in Sobolev spaces with exponential weights. Third, the black soliton persists with respect to addition of a small decaying potential and remains spectrally stable when it is pinned to t…
We address surface solitons supported by the interface of optical lattices imprinted in saturable media with surface-localized gain. The nonlinearity saturation puts restrictions on the maximal energy flow carried by surface solitons. As a consequence, the presence of thin amplifying layer near the surface results in the controllable emission of solitons towards the lattice at angles depending on the amplification rate and on lattice depth.
We discover multipole-mode solitons supported by the surface between two distinct periodic lattices imprinted in Kerr-type nonlinear media. Such solitons are possible because the refractive index modulation at both sides of the interface glues together their out-of-phase individual constituents. Remarkably, we find that the new type of solitons may feature highly asymmetric shapes and yet they are stable over wide domains of their existence, a rare property to be attributed to their surface nature.
We address the existence and properties of optical solitons excited in thermal nonlinear media with a transverse refractive index gradient. We show that in such a geometry one can generate controllable switching from surface soliton propagating near the sample edges to bulk solitons. Beam steering associated to the different soliton output locations can be achieved by varying the input light intensity.
We investigate the impact of nonlocality, owing to diffusive behavior, on transverse instabilities of a dark stripe propagating in a defocusing cubic medium. The nonlocal response turns out to have a strongly stabilizing effect both in the case of a single soliton input and in the regime where dispersive shock waves develop "multisoliton regime". Such conclusions are supported by the linear stability analysis and numerical simulation of the propagation.
We address the existence and stability of spatial localized modes supported by a parity-time-symmetric complex potential in the presence of power-law nonlinearity. The analytical expressions of the localized modes, which are Gaussian in nature, are obtained in both (1+1) and (2+1) dimensions. A linear stability analysis corroborated by the direct numerical simulations reveals that these analytical localized modes can propagate stably for a wide range of the potential parameters and for various order nonlinearities. Some dynamical characteristics of these solutions, such as the power and the tr…
We report that infinite and semi-infinite lattices with spatially inhomogeneous self-defocusing (SDF)\ onsite nonlinearity, whose strength increases rapidly enough toward the lattice periphery, support stable unstaggered (UnST) discrete bright solitons, which do not exist in lattices with the spatially uniform SDF nonlinearity. The UnST solitons coexist with stable staggered (ST) localized modes, which are always possible under the defocusing onsite nonlinearity. The results are obtained in a numerical form, and also by means of variational approximation (VA). In the semi-infinite (truncated) …
We address vortex solitons supported by optical lattices featuring modulation of both the linear and nonlinear refractive indices. We find that when the modulation is out-of-phase the competition between both effects results in remarkable shape transformations of the solitons which profoundly affect their properties and stability. Nonlinear refractive index modulation is found to impose restrictions on the maximal power of off-site solitons, which are shown to be stable only below a maximum nonlinearity modulation depth.
Models of two-dimensional (2D) traps, with the double-well structure in the third direction, for Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) are introduced, with attractive or repulsive interactions between atoms. The models are based on systems of linearly coupled 2D Gross-Pitaevskii equations (GPEs), where the coupling accounts for tunneling between the wells. Each well carries an optical lattice (OL) (stable 2D solitons cannot exist without OLs). The main subject of the work is spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB) in two-component 2D solitons and localized vortices. We demonstrate that, in the system wit…
Existence of localized modes supported by the PT-symmetric nonlinear lattices is reported. The system considered reveals unusual properties: unlike other typical dissipative systems it possesses families (branches) of solutions, which can be parametrized by the propagation constant; relatively narrow localized modes appear to be stable, even when the conservative nonlinear lattice potential is absent; finally, the system supports stable multipole solutions.
This is a review addressing soliton-like states in systems with nonlocal nonlinearity. The work on this topic has long history. Some findings, such as optical solitons supported by thermal nonlinearity, and by the orientational nonlinearity in liquid crystals, have been reviewed in the literature, therefore they are outlined in the present review in a brief form. Some other studies, such as those addressing models with fractional diffraction, which is represented by a linear nonlocal operator, have started recently, therefore it will be relevant to review them in detail when more results are a…
We investigate the propagation of a dark beam in a defocusing medium in the strong nonlinear regime. We observe for the first time a shock fan filled with non-interacting one-dimensional grey solitons that emanates from a gradient catastrophe developing around a null of the optical intensity. Remarkably this scenario turns out to be very robust, persisting also when the material nonlocal response averages the nonlinearity over dimensions much larger than the emerging soliton filaments.
In this paper, an exact explicit solution for the complex cubic-quintic Ginzburg-Landau equation is obtained, by using Lambert W function or omega function. More pertinently, we term them as Lambert W-kink-type solitons, begotten under the influence of intrapulse Raman scattering. Parameter domains are delineated in which these optical solitons exit in the ensuing model. We report the effect of model coefficients on the amplitude of Lambert W-kink solitons, which enables us to control efficiently the pulse intensity and hence their subsequent evolution. Also, moving fronts or optical shock-typ…
