A bounded linear operator $T$ on a Banach space $X$ is called subspace-hypercyclic if there is a subspace $M \subsetneq X$ and a vector $x \in X$ such that $orb{(x,T)} \cap M$ is dense in $M$. We show that every Banach space supports subspace-hypercyclic operators and provide a new criteira for subspace-hypercyclic operators, generalizing a previous result from Le.
In this paper, we show that if the direct sum of two operators is subspace-hypercyclic (satisfies subspace hypercyclic criterion), then both operators are subspace-hypercyclic (satisfy subspace hypercyclic criterion). Moreover, if an operator $T$ satisfies subspace-hypercyclic criterion, then so $T\oplus T$ does. Also, we obtain that under certain conditions, if $T\oplus T$ is hypercyclic then $T$ satisfies subspace-hypercyclic criterion and, the subspace-hypercyclic operators satisfy subspace-hypercyclic criterion which gives the "subspace-hypercyclic" analogue of Theorem 2.3. (in Hereditaril…
We use a theorem by Gonzalez, Leon-Saavedra and Montes-Rodriguez to construct a class of coanalytic Toeplitz operators which have an infinite-dimensional closed subspace, where any non-zero vector is hypercyclic.
Our aim in this paper is to obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for weighted shift operators on the Hilbert spaces $\ell^{2}(\mathbb Z)$ and $\ell^{2}(\mathbb N)$ to be subspace-transitive, consequently, we show that the Herrero question (D. A. Herrero. Limits of hypercyclic and supercyclic operators, J. Funct. Anal., 99 (1991)179-190) holds true even on a subspace of a Hilbert space, i.e. there exists an operator $T$ such that both $T$ and $T^*$ are subspace-hypercyclic operators for some subspaces. We display the conditions on the direct sum of two invertable bilateral forward weighte…
In this paper, we answer a question posed in the introduction of \cite{sub hyp} positively, i.e, we show that if $T$ is $\mathcal M$-hypercyclic operator with $\mathcal M$-hypercyclic vector $x$ in a Hilbert space $\mathcal H$, then $P(Orb(T,x))$ is dense in the subspace $\mathcal M$ where $P$ is the orthogonal projection onto $\mathcal M$. Furthermore, we give some relations between ${\mathcal M}^{\perp}$-hypercyclicity and the orthogonal projection onto ${\mathcal M}^{\perp}$. We also give sufficient conditions for a bilateral weighted shift operators on a Hilbert space $\ell^{2}(\mathbb Z)$…
A conditional weighted composition operator $T_u: L^p(Σ)\rightarrow L^p(\mathcal{A})$ ($1\leq p<\infty$), is defined by $T_u(f):= E^{\mathcal{A}}(u f\circ φ)$, where $φ: X\rightarrow X$ is a measurable transformation, $u$ is a weight function on $X$ and $E^{\mathcal{A}}$ is the conditional expectation operator with respect to $\mathcal{A}$. In this paper, we study the subspace-hypercyclicity of $T_u$ with respect to $L^p(\mathcal{A})$. First, we show that if $φ$ is a periodic nonsingular transformation, then $T_u$ is not $L^p(\mathcal{A})$-hypercyclic. The necessary conditions for the subspace…
A bounded linear operator T on Hilbert space is subspace-hypercyclic for a subspace M if there exists a vector whose orbit under T intersects the subspace in a relatively dense set. We construct examples to show that subspace-hypercyclicity is interesting, including a nontrivial subspace-hypercyclic operator that is not hypercyclic. There is a Kitai-like criterion that implies subspace-hypercyclicity and although the spectrum of a subspace-hypercyclic operator must intersect the unit circle, not every component of the spectrum will do so. We show that, like hypercyclicity, subspace-hypercyclic…
We provide criteria for the existence of upper frequently hypercyclic subspaces and for common hypercyclic subspaces, which include the following consequences. There exist frequently hypercyclic operators with upper-frequently hypercyclic subspaces and no frequently hypercyclic subspace. On the space of entire functions, each differentiation operator induced by a non-constant polynomial supports an upper frequently hypercyclic subspace, and the family of its non-zero scalar multiples has a common hypercyclic subspace. A question of Costakis and Sambarino on the existence of a common hypercycli…
We first generalize the results of León and Müller [Studia Math. 175(1) 2006] on hypercyclic subspaces to sequences of operators on Fréchet spaces with a continuous norm. Then we study the particular case of iterates of an operator T and show a simple criterion for having no hypercyclic subspace. Finally we deduce from this criterion a characterization of weighted shifts with hypercyclic subspaces on the spaces lp or c0, on the space of entire functions and on certain Köthe sequence spaces. We also prove that if P is a non-constant polynomial and D is the differentiation operator on the space …
We show that the non-zero multiples of the derivative operator and the non-zero multiples of non-trivial translation operators on the space of entire functions share a common hypercyclic subspace, i.e. a closed infinite-dimensional subspace in which each non-zero vector has a dense orbit for each of these operators.
For every fixed $ε$ $\in$ (0, 1), we construct an operator on the separable Hilbert space which is $δ$-hypercyclic for all $δ$ $\in$ ($ε$, 1) and which is not $δ$-hypercyclic for all $δ$ $\in$ (0, $ε$).
Let $S(\mathbb{D})$ be the collection of all holomorphic self-maps on $\mathbb{D}$ of the complex plane $\mathbb{C}$, and $C_φ$ the composition operator induced by $φ\in S(\mathbb{D})$. We obtain that there are no hypercyclic composition operators on the little Bloch space $\mathcal{B}_0$ and the Besov space $B_p$.
For the Dunkl operator $Λ_α$ $(α> -1/2)$ on the space of entire functions on the complex space C, the critical rate of growth for the integral means $M_p(f,r)$ of their hypercyclic functions $f$ is obtained. The rate of growth of the corresponding frequently hypercyclic functions is also analyzed.
In this paper, we show that if the direct sum $T\oplus T$ of frequently hypercyclic operators is frequently hypercyclic, then every higher direct sum $T\oplus\cdots\oplus T$ is also frequently hypercyclic.
In this short note, we answer a question of Martin and Sanders [Integr. Equ. Oper. Theory, 85 (2) (2016), 191-220] by showing the existence of disjoint frequently hypercyclic operators which fail to be disjoint weakly mixing and, therefore, fail to satisfy the Disjoint Hypercyclicity Criterion. We also show that given an operator $T$ such that $T \oplus T$ is frequently hypercyclic, the set of operators $S$ such that $T, S$ are disjoint frequently hypercyclic but fail to satisfy the Disjoint Hypercyclicity Criterion is SOT dense in the algebra of bounded linear operators.
We give a sufficient condition for two operators to be disjointly frequently hypercyclic. We apply this criterion to composition operators acting on $H(\mathbb D)$ or on the Hardy space $H^2(\mathbb D)$. We simplify a result on disjoint frequent hypercyclicity of pseudo shifts of a recent paper of Martin et al. and we exhibit two disjointly frequently hypercyclic weighted shifts.
We show that operators on a separable infinite dimensional Banach space $X$ of the form $I +S$, where $S$ is an operator with dense generalised kernel, must lie in the norm closure of the hypercyclic operators on $X$, in fact in the closure of the mixing operators.
We introduce q-frequently hypercyclic operators and derive a sufficient criterion for a continuous operator to be q-frequently hypercyclic on a locally convex space. Applications are given to obtain q-frequently hypercyclic operators with respect to the norm-, F-norm- and weak*- topologies. Finally, the frequent hypercyclicity of the non-convolution operator $T_μ$ defined by $T_μ(f)(z) = f'(μz)$, $μ\ge1$ on the space $H(\mathbb{C})$ of entire functions equipped with the compact-open topology is shown.
We prove that there exists a rank one perturbation of a unitary operator on a complex separable infinite dimensional Hilbert space which is hypercyclic.
We study the existence of hypercyclic algebras for convolution operators $Φ(D)$ on the space of entire functions whose symbol $Φ$ has unimodular constant term. In particular, we provide new eigenvalue criteria for the existence of densely strongly algebrable sets of hypercyclic vectors.
We give a short proof of the existence of disjoint hypercyclic tuples of operators of any given length on any separable infinite dimensional Frechet space. A similar argument provides disjoint dual hypercyclic tuples of operators of any length on any infinite dimensional Banach space with separable dual.
Recently, S. Grivaux showed that there exists a rank one perturbation of a unitary operator in a Hilbert space which is hypercyclic. Another construction was suggested later by the first and the third authors. Here, using a functional model for rank one perturbations of singular unitary operators, we give yet another construction of hypercyclic rank one perturbation of a unitary operator. In particular, we show that any Carleson set on the circle can be the spectrum of a perturbed (hypercyclic) operator.
We show that families of translation operators, where the translates grow exponentially fast, do not admit common hypercyclic functions. The result is close to be optimal.
A bounded linear operator $T$ on a Banach space $X$ is called hypercyclic if there exists a vector $x \in X$ such that $orb{(x,T)}$ is dense in $X$. The Hypercyclicity Criterion is a well-known sufficient condition for an operator to be hypercyclic. One open problem is whether there exists a space where the Hypercyclicity Criterion is also a necessary condition. For a number of reasons, the spaces with very-few operators are some natural candidates to be a positive answer to that problem. In this paper, we provide a theorem that establishes some relationships for operators in these spaces.
We show that several convolution operators on the space of entire functions, such as the MacLane operator, support a dense hypercyclic algebra that is not finitely generated. Birkhoff's operator also has this property on the space of complex-valued smooth functions on the real line.
A unitary operator $V$ and a rank $2$ operator $R$ acting on a Hilbert space $\H$ are constructed such that $V+R$ is hypercyclic. This answers affirmatively a question of Salas whether a finite rank perturbation of a hyponormal operator can be supercyclic.
We provide necessary and sufficient conditions on the existence of common hypercyclic vectors for multiples of the backward shift operator along sparse powers. Our main result strongly generalizes corresponding results which concern the full orbit of the backward shift. Some of our results are valid in a more general context, in the sense that they apply for a wide class of hypercyclic operators.
We study multiply recurrent and hypercyclic operators as a special case of $\mathcal F$-hypercyclicity, where $\mathcal F$ is the family of subsets of the natural numbers containing arbitrarily long arithmetic progressions. We prove several properties of hypercyclic multiply recurrent operators, we characterize those operators which are weakly mixing and multiply recurrent, and we show that there are operators that are multiply recurrent and hypercyclic but not weakly mixing.
In this paper we use Nachbin's holomorphy types to generalize some recent results concerning hypercyclic convolution operators on Fréchet spaces of entire functions of bounded type of infinitely many complex variables.
In this paper, we study the hypercyclic composition operators on weighted Banach spaces of functions defined on discrete metric spaces. We show that the only such composition operators act on the "little" spaces. We characterize the bounded composition operators on the little spaces, as well as provide various necessary conditions for hypercyclicity.
In this paper, we investigate ${\mathcal F}$-hypercyclicity of linear, not necessarily continuous, operators on Fr\' echet spaces. The notion of lower $(m_{n})$-hypercyclicity seems to be new and not considered elsewhere even for linear continuous operators acting on Fr\' echet spaces. We pay special attention to the study of $q$-frequent hypercyclicity, where $q\geq 1$ is an arbitrary real number. We present several new concepts and results for lower and upper densities in a separate section, providing also a great number of illustrative examples and open problems.
We provide conditions for a linear map of the form $C_{R,T}(S)=RST$ to be $q$-frequently hypercyclic on algebras of operators on separable Banach spaces. In particular, if $R$ is a bounded operator satisfying the $q$-Frequent Hypercyclicity Criterion, then the map $C_{R}(S)$=$RSR^*$ is shown to be $q$-frequently hypercyclic on the space $\mathcal{K}(H)$ of all compact operators and the real topological vector space $\mathcal{S}(H)$ of all self-adjoint operators on a separable Hilbert space $H$. Further we provide a condition for $C_{R,T}$ to be $q$-frequently hypercyclic on the Schatten von Ne…
We investigate the hypercyclic properties of commutator maps acting on separable ideals of operators. As the main result we prove the commutator map induced by scalar multiples of the backward shift operator fails to be hypercyclic on the space of compact operators on $\ell^2$. We also establish some necessary conditions which identify large classes of operators that do not induce hypercyclic commutator maps.
Bonet, Frerick, Peris and Wengenroth constructed a hypercyclic operator on the locally convex direct sum of countably many copies of the Banach space $\ell_1$. We extend this result. In particular, we show that there is a hypercyclic operator on the locally convex direct sum of a sequence $\{X_n\}_{n\in\N}$ of Fréchet spaces if and only if each $X_n$ is separable and there are infinitely many $n\in\N$ for which $X_n$ is infinite dimensional. Moreover, we characterize inductive limits of sequences of separable Banach spaces which support a hypercyclic operator.
We study the compactness and the hypercyclicity of Toeplitz operators in the de Branges-Rovnyak spaces H(b) with co-analytic and bounded symbols on D. We highlight the fundamental role played by the function b generating the de Branges-Rovnyak space H(b). The characterization of compactness depends wether b is inner function or not and the characterization of hypercyclicity depends wether the function log(1-|b|) is integrable or not.
We study a hypercyclicity property of linear dynamical systems: a bounded linear operator T acting on a separable infinite-dimensional Banach space X is said to be hypercyclic if there exists a vector x in X such that {T^{n}x : n>0} is dense in X, and frequently hypercyclic if there exists x in X such that for any non empty open subset U of X, the set {n>0 ; T^n x \in U} has positive lower density. We prove that if T is a bounded operator on X which has "sufficiently many" eigenvectors associated to eigenvalues of modulus 1 in the sense that these eigenvectors are perfectly spanning, then T is…
We provide an alternative proof to those by Shkarin and by Bayart and Matheron that the operator $D$ of complex differentiation supports a hypercyclic algebra on the space of entire functions. In particular we obtain hypercyclic algebras for many convolution operators not induced by polynomials, such as $\mbox{cos}(D)$, $De^D$, or $e^D-aI$, where $0<a\le 1$. In contrast, weighted composition operators on function algebras of analytic functions on a plane domain fail to support supercyclic algebras. Non-trivial translations on the space of complex-valued, smooth functions on the real line do su…
An important result of León-Saavedra and Müller says that the rotations of hypercyclic operators remain hypercyclic. We provide extensions of this result for orbits of operators which are rotated by unimodular complex numbers with polynomial phases. On the other hand, we show that this fails for unimodular complex numbers whose phases grow to infinity too quickly, say at a geometric rate. A further consequence of our work is a notable strengthening of a result due to Shkarin which concerns variants of León-Saavedra and Müller's result in a non-linear setting.
Even linear operators on infinite-dimensional spaces can display interesting dynamical properties and yield important links among functional analysis, differential and global geometry and dynamical systems, with a wide range of applications. In particular, hypercyclicity is an essentially infinite-dimensional property, when iterations of the operator generate a dense subspace. A Frechet space admits a hypercyclic operator if and only if it is separable and infinite-dimensional. However, by considering the semigroups generated by multiples of operators, it is possible to obtain hypercyclic beha…
It is shown that every component of the spectrum of a weakly hypercyclic operator meets the unit circle. The proof is based on the lemma that a sequence of vectors in a Banach space whose norms grow at geometrical rate doesn't have zero in its weak closure.
We solve several problems on frequently hypercyclic operators. Firstly, we characterize frequently hypercyclic weighted shifts on $\ell^p(\mathbb Z)$, $p\geq 1$. Our method uses properties of the difference set of a set with positive upper density. Secondly, we show that there exists an operator which is $\mathcal U$-frequently hypercyclic, yet not frequently hypercyclic and that there exists an operator which is frequently hypercyclic, yet not distributionally chaotic. These (surprizing) counterexamples are given by weighted shifts on $c_0$. The construction of these shifts lies on the constr…
On the Fréchet space of entire functions $H(\mathbb{C})$, we show that every nonscalar continuous linear operator $L:H(\mathbb{C})\to H(\mathbb{C})$ which commutes with differentiation has a hypercyclic vector $f(z)$ in the form of the infinite product of linear polynomials: \[ f(z) = \prod_{j=1}^\infty \, \left( 1-\frac{z}{a_j}\right), \] where each $a_j$ is a nonzero complex number.
We prove the existence of common hypercyclic entire functions for uncountable families of translation type operators. Contrary to our previous work [34], here the parameter which reflects the uncountable family lies on the unit circle. On the other hand the sequence of translations is in a sense less restrictive if it is to be compared with the corresponding sequence in [34]. Our result largely extends a result of Costakis in [19].
We show that, under suitable conditions, an operator acting like a shift on some sequence space has a frequently hypercyclic random vector whose distribution is strongly mixing for the operator. This result will be applied to chaotic weighted shifts. We also apply it to every operator satisfying the Frequent Hypercyclicity Criterion, recovering a result of Murillo and Peris.
Let $I$ be a countably infinite index set, and let $X$ be a Banach sequence space over $I.$ In this article, we characterize disjoint hypercyclic and supercyclic weighted pseudo-shift operators on $X$ in terms of the weights, the OP-basis, and the shift mappings on $I.$ Also, the shifts on weighted $L^p$ spaces of a directed tree and the operator weighted shifts on $\ell^2(\mathbb{Z,\mathcal{K}})$ are investigated as special cases.
In this work we shall prove new results on the theory of convolution operators on spaces of entire functions. The focus is on hypercyclicity results for convolution operators on spaces of entire functions of a given type and order; and existence and approximation results for convolution equations on spaces of entire functions of a given type and order. In both cases we give a general method to prove new results that recover, as particular cases, several results of the literature. Applications of these more general results are given, including new hypercyclicity results for convolution operator…
