We provide an alternative proof to those by Shkarin and by Bayart and Matheron that the operator $D$ of complex differentiation supports a hypercyclic algebra on the space of entire functions. In particular we obtain hypercyclic algebras for many convolution operators not induced by polynomials, such as $\mbox{cos}(D)$, $De^D$, or $e^D-aI$, where $0<a\le 1$. In contrast, weighted composition operators on function algebras of analytic functions on a plane domain fail to support supercyclic algebras. Non-trivial translations on the space of complex-valued, smooth functions on the real line do support hypercyclic algebras.
Let $S(\mathbb{D})$ be the collection of all holomorphic self-maps on $\mathbb{D}$ of the complex plane $\mathbb{C}$, and $C_φ$ the composition operator induced by $φ\in S(\mathbb{D})$. We obtain that there are no hypercyclic composition operators on the little Bloch space $\mathcal{B}_0$ and the Besov space $B_p$.
We give a sufficient condition for two operators to be disjointly frequently hypercyclic. We apply this criterion to composition operators acting on $H(\mathbb D)$ or on the Hardy space $H^2(\mathbb D)$. We simplify a result on disjoint frequent hypercyclicity of pseudo shifts of a recent paper of Martin et al. and we exhibit two disjointly frequently hypercyclic weighted shifts.
In this paper, we study the hypercyclic composition operators on weighted Banach spaces of functions defined on discrete metric spaces. We show that the only such composition operators act on the "little" spaces. We characterize the bounded composition operators on the little spaces, as well as provide various necessary conditions for hypercyclicity.
We study the existence of hypercyclic algebras for convolution operators $Φ(D)$ on the space of entire functions whose symbol $Φ$ has unimodular constant term. In particular, we provide new eigenvalue criteria for the existence of densely strongly algebrable sets of hypercyclic vectors.
In this paper we use Nachbin's holomorphy types to generalize some recent results concerning hypercyclic convolution operators on Fréchet spaces of entire functions of bounded type of infinitely many complex variables.
We show that several convolution operators on the space of entire functions, such as the MacLane operator, support a dense hypercyclic algebra that is not finitely generated. Birkhoff's operator also has this property on the space of complex-valued smooth functions on the real line.
In this work we shall prove new results on the theory of convolution operators on spaces of entire functions. The focus is on hypercyclicity results for convolution operators on spaces of entire functions of a given type and order; and existence and approximation results for convolution equations on spaces of entire functions of a given type and order. In both cases we give a general method to prove new results that recover, as particular cases, several results of the literature. Applications of these more general results are given, including new hypercyclicity results for convolution operator…
This paper discusses the existence of a sufficient condition for an operator to be weakly hypercyclic. We establish a weak hypercyclicity criterion, and thereupon we can answer questions 5.3 and 5.8 posed by Chan and Sanders in 2004. Lastly, we show that for specific type of composition operator, weak hypercyclicity and hypercyclicity are equivalent.
Let $H(\mathbb{C})$ be the set of all entire functions endowed with the topology of uniform convergence on compact sets. Let $λ,b\in\mathbb{C}$, let $C_{λ,b}:H(\mathbb{C})\to H(\mathbb{C})$ be the composition operator $C_{λ,b} f(z)=f(λz+b)$, and let $D$ be the derivative operator. We extend results on the hypercyclicity of the non-convolution operators $T_{λ,b}=C_{λ,b} \circ D$ by showing that whenever $|λ|\geq 1$, the collection of operators \begin{align*} \{ψ(T_{λ,b}): ψ(z)\in H(\mathbb{C}), ψ(0)=0 \text{ and } ψ(T_{λ,b}) \text{ is continuous}\} \end{align*} forms an algebra under the usual …
We characterise hypercyclic composition operators $C_φ:f\mapsto f\circφ$ on the space of functions holomorphic on $Ω$, where $Ω$ is a connected Stein manifold and $φ$ is a holomorphic self-mapping of $Ω$. In the case when all balls with respect to the Carathéodory pseudodistance are relatively compact in $Ω$, we show that much simpler characterisation is possible (many natural classes of domains in $\CC^N$ satisfy this condition). Moreover, we show that in such a class of manifolds, and in simply connected and infinitely connected planar domains, hypercyclicity of $C_φ$ implies its hereditary …
We introduce q-frequently hypercyclic operators and derive a sufficient criterion for a continuous operator to be q-frequently hypercyclic on a locally convex space. Applications are given to obtain q-frequently hypercyclic operators with respect to the norm-, F-norm- and weak*- topologies. Finally, the frequent hypercyclicity of the non-convolution operator $T_μ$ defined by $T_μ(f)(z) = f'(μz)$, $μ\ge1$ on the space $H(\mathbb{C})$ of entire functions equipped with the compact-open topology is shown.
In this note, it is proved the existence of an infinitely generated multiplicative group consisting of entire functions that are, except for the constant function 1, hypercyclic with respect to the convolution operator associated to a given entire function of subexponential type. A certain stability under multiplication is also shown for compositional hypercyclicity on complex domains.
We study hypercyclicity properties of a family of non-convolution operators defined on spaces of holomorphic functions on $\mathbb{C}^N$. These operators are a composition of a differentiation operator and an affine composition operator, and are analogues of operators studied by Aron and Markose on $H(\mathbb{C})$. The hypercyclic behavior is more involved than in the one dimensional case, and depends on several parameters involved.
The question of whether a hypercyclic operator $T$ acting on a Fr{é}chet algebra $X$ admits or not an algebra of hypercyclic vectors (but 0) has been addressed in the recent literature. In this paper we give new criteria and characterizations in the context of convolution operators acting on $H(\mathbb C)$ and backward shifts acting on a general Fr{é}chet sequence algebra.Analogous questions arise for stronger properties like frequent hypercyclicity. In this trend we give a sufficient condition for a weighted backward shift to admit an upper frequently hypercyclic algebra and we find a weighte…
A theorem of Godefroy and Shapiro states that non-trivial convolution operators on the space of entire functions on $\mathbb{C}^n$ are hypercyclic. Moreover, it was shown by Bonilla and Grosse-Erdmann that they have frequently hypercyclic functions of exponential growth. On the other hand, in the infinite dimensional setting, the Godefroy-Shapiro theorem has been extended to several spaces of entire functions defined on Banach spaces. We prove that on all these spaces, non-trivial convolution operators are strongly mixing with respect to a gaussian probability measure of full support. For the …
We show that if $E$ is an arbitrary $(DFN)$-space, then every nontrivial convolution operator on the Fréchet nuclear space $\mathcal{H}(E)$ is mixing, in particular hypercyclic. More generally we obtain the same conclusion when $E=F^{\prime}_c,$ where $F$ is a separable Fréchet space with the approximation property. On the opposite direction we show that a translation operator on the space $\mathcal{H}(\mathbb{C}^{\mathbb{N}}) $ is never hypercyclic.
A conditional weighted composition operator $T_u: L^p(Σ)\rightarrow L^p(\mathcal{A})$ ($1\leq p<\infty$), is defined by $T_u(f):= E^{\mathcal{A}}(u f\circ φ)$, where $φ: X\rightarrow X$ is a measurable transformation, $u$ is a weight function on $X$ and $E^{\mathcal{A}}$ is the conditional expectation operator with respect to $\mathcal{A}$. In this paper, we study the subspace-hypercyclicity of $T_u$ with respect to $L^p(\mathcal{A})$. First, we show that if $φ$ is a periodic nonsingular transformation, then $T_u$ is not $L^p(\mathcal{A})$-hypercyclic. The necessary conditions for the subspace…
In this paper, we generalize to the context of algebras some recent results on the existence of common hypercyclic vectors for families of products of backward shift operators. We also give, in a multi-dimensional setting, a positive answer to a question raised by F. Bayart, D. Papathanasiou and the author about the existence of a common hypercyclic algebra on $\ell_1(\mathbb{N})$ with the convolution product for the family of backward shifts $(B_{w(λ)})_{λ>0}$ induced by the weights $w_n(λ)=1+λ/n$.
We study topological transitivity/hypercyclicity and topological (weak) mixing for weighted composition operators on locally convex spaces of scalar-valued functions which are defined by local properties. As main application of our general approach we characterize these dynamical properties for weighted composition operators on spaces of ultradifferentiable functions, both of Beurling and Roumieu type, and on spaces of zero solutions of elliptic partial differential equations. Special attention is given to eigenspaces of the Laplace operator and the Cauchy-Riemann operator, respectively. Moreo…
In this article, we completely characterize the complex symmetry, cyclicity and hypercyclicity of composition operators $C_ϕf=f\circϕ$ induced by affine self-maps $ϕ$ of the right half-plane $\mathbb{C}_+$ on the Hardy-Hilbert space $H^2(\mathbb{C}_+)$. We also provide new proofs for the normal, self-adjoint and unitary cases and for an adjoint formula discovered by Gallardo-Gutiérrez and Montes-Rodrígues.
A classical result of Godefroy and Shapiro states that every nontrivial convolution operator on the space $\mathcal{H}(\mathbb{C}^n)$ of entire functions of several complex variables is hypercyclic. In sharp contrast with this result Fávaro and Mujica show that no translation operator on the space $\mathcal{H}(\mathbb{C}^\mathbb{N})$ of entire functions of infinitely many complex variables is hypercyclic. In this work we study the linear dynamics of convolution operators on $\mathcal{H}(\mathbb{C}^\mathbb{N})$. First we show that no convolution operator on $\mathcal{H}(\mathbb{C}^\mathbb{N})$ …
Spaces of homogeneous polynomials on a Banach space are frequently equipped with quasinorms instead of norms. In this paper we develop a technique to replace the original quasi-norm by a norm in a dual preserving way, in the sense that the dual of the space with the new norm coincides with the dual of the space with the original quasi-norm. Applications to problems on the existence and approximation of solutions of convolution equations and on hypercyclic convolution operators on spaces of entire functions are provided.
We study the hypercyclic, supercyclic and cyclic properties of composition operator $C_ϕ$ on the Segal-Bargmann space $\mathscr{H}(\mathscr{E})$, where $ϕ(z)=Az+b$, $A\in \mathcal{B}(\mathscr{E})$, $b\in \mathscr{E}$ with $\left\|A\right\|\leq 1$ and $A^*b\in (I-A^*A)^{\frac{1}{2}}$. In this connection we also give a characterization of the symbols $ϕ$ which induce the bounded composition operator $C_ϕ$ on $\mathscr{H}(\mathscr{E})$ and show that the properties of $ϕ$ influence the cyclic behaviour of $C_ϕ$.
The Invariant Subspace Problem ("ISP") for Hilbert space operators is known to be equivalent to a question that, on its surface, seems surprisingly concrete: For composition operators induced on the Hardy space H^2 by hyperbolic automorphisms of the unit disc, is every nontrivial minimal invariant subspace one dimensional (i.e., spanned by an eigenvector)? In the hope of reviving interest in the contribution this remarkable result might offer to the studies of both composition operators and the ISP, I revisit some known results, weaken their hypotheses and simplify their proofs. Sample results…
Let $m(G)$ be the infimum of the volumes of all open subgroups of a unimodular locally compact group $G$. Suppose integrable functions $ϕ_1 , ϕ_2 \colon G \to [0,1]$ satisfy $\| ϕ_1 \| \leq \| ϕ_2 \|$ and $\| ϕ_1 \| + \| ϕ_2 \| \leq m (G)$, where $\| \cdot \|$ denotes the $L^1$-norm with respect to a Haar measure $dg$ on $G$. We have the following inequality for any convex function $f \colon [0, \| ϕ_1 \| ] \to \mathbb{R}$ with $f(0) = 0$: \begin{align*} \int_{G}^{} f \circ ( ϕ_1 * ϕ_2 ) (g) dg \leq 2 \int_{0}^{\| ϕ_1 \|} f(y) dy + ( \| ϕ_2 \| - \| ϕ_1 \| ) f( \| ϕ_1 \| ). \end{align*} As a co…
We produce, on general homogeneous groups, an analogue of the usual Hörmander pseudodifferential calculus on Euclidean space, at least as far as products and adjoints are concerned. In contrast to earlier works, we do not limit ourselves to analogues of classical symbols, nor to the Heisenberg group. The key technique is to understand ``multipliers'' of any given order j, and the operators of convolution with their inverse Fourier transforms, which we here call convolution operators of order j. (Here a ``multiplier'' is an analogue of a Hörmander-type symbol a(x,ξ), which is independent of x.)…
This paper outlines a covariant theory of operators defined on groups and homogeneous spaces.
