In this work, we show how the knowledge of the first few terms of the Euler-Heisenberg Lagrangian's weak-field expansion in a magnetic field background is enough to reconstruct the pair-production rate in a strong electric field background. To this end, we study its associated truncated Borel sum using Padé approximants, as advocated in a recent work by Costin and Dunne, J. Phys. A52, 445205 (2019).
Based on the strong coupling expansion, we reinvestigate two dimensional O(N) sigma model by the use of Pade-Borel approximants. The conventional strong coupling expansion of the mass square M in momentum space in beta=1/g^2 is inverted to give beta expanded in 1/M. Borel transform of beta with respect to M is carried out and the result is improved as the rational function by Pade method. We find the behavior of Pade-Borel transformed bare coupling at 18th order is consistent for N>=3 with that of continuum scaling to the four-loop perturbation theory. We estimate non-perturbative mass gap at …
We extend recent work of Hatsuda on the computation of quasinormal mode frequencies via analytic continuation of bound state energies and Borel-Pade resummation of the Bender-Wu perturbation series to the case of charged fields in the background of Reissner-Nordstrom black holes. We compare the quasinormal mode frequencies obtained in this manner to calculations using Leaver's method of continued fractions, and find good agreement for damped modes (DMs) with imaginary part remaining finite in the extremal limit. We also present numerical evidence that the frequencies of certain zero-damped mod…
We map the Schwinger--Dyson equation and the renormalization group equation for the massless Wess--Zumino model in the Borel plane, where the product of functions get mapped to a convolution product. The two-point function can be expressed as a superposition of general powers of the external momentum. The singularities of the anomalous dimension are shown to lie on the real line in the Borel plane and to be linked to the singularities of the Mellin transform of the one-loop graph. This new approach allows us to enlarge the reach of previous studies on the expansions around those singularities.…
Perturbative expansions in physical applications are generically divergent, and their physical content can be studied using Borel analysis. Given just a finite number of terms of such an expansion, this input data can be analyzed in different ways, leading to vastly different precision for the extrapolation of the expansion parameter away from its original asymptotic regime. Here we describe how conformal maps and uniformizing maps can be used, in conjunction with Pad'e approximants, to increase the precision of the information that can be extracted from a finite amount of perturbative input d…
We present a method to sum Borel- and Gevrey-summable asymptotic series by matching the series to be summed with a linear combination of asymptotic series of known functions that themselves are scaled versions of a single, appropriate, but otherwise unrestricted, function $Φ$. Both the scaling and linear coefficients are calculated from Padé approximants of a series transformed from the original series by $Φ$. We discuss in particular the case that $Φ$ is (essentially) a confluent hypergeometric function, which includes as special cases the standard Borel-Padé and Borel-Leroy-Padé methods. A p…
We demonstrate that a Meijer-G-function-based resummation approach can be successfully applied to approximate the Borel sum of divergent series, and thus to approximate the Borel-Écalle summation of resurgent transseries in quantum field theory (QFT). The proposed method is shown to vastly outperform the conventional Borel-Padé and Borel-Padé-Écalle summation methods. The resulting Meijer-G approximants are easily parameterized by means of a hypergeometric ansatz and can be thought of as a generalization to arbitrary order of the Borel-Hypergeometric method [Mera {\it et al.} Phys. Rev. Lett. …
We demonstrate how the Exact WKB analysis works in the study of the quasi-normal modes (QNMs). We apply the Exact WKB analysis to a massless scalar perturbation to the D3-brane metric as a concrete example. The Exact WKB analysis provides an exact condition for the QNMs. We numerically check our exact condition by using the Borel-Padé approximation. We also present an analytic form and an asymptotic behavior of the QNMs.
We analyze the asymptotically free massless scalar $ϕ^3$ quantum field theory in 6 dimensions, using resurgent asymptotic analysis to find the trans-series solutions which yield the non-perturbative completion of the divergent perturbative solutions to the Kreimer-Connes Hopf-algebraic Dyson-Schwinger equations for the anomalous dimension. This scalar conformal field theory is asymptotically free and has a real Lipatov instanton. In the Hopf-algebraic approach we find a trans-series having an intricate Borel singularity structure, with three distinct but resonant non-perturbative terms, each r…
We study the Borel-Padé resummation of the asymptotic series for the string equation of the Lee-Yang edge singularity. Numerical methods are provided to compute a high accuracy exact solution. We find the resummation matches the numerical integration without need for further non-perturbative corrections.
For lambda phi^4 problems, convergent perturbative series can be obtained by cutting off the large field configurations. The modified series converge to values exponentially close to the exact ones. For lambda larger than some critical value, the method outperforms Pade approximants and Borel summations. We discuss some aspects of the semi-classical methods used to calculate the modified Feynman rules and estimate the error associated with the procedure. We provide a simple numerical example where the procedure works despite the fact that the Borel sum has singularities on the positive real ax…
We address the nonperturbative structure of topological strings and c=1 matrix models, focusing on understanding the nature of instanton effects alongside with exploring their relation to the large-order behavior of the 1/N expansion. We consider the Gaussian, Penner and Chern-Simons matrix models, together with their holographic duals, the c=1 minimal string at self-dual radius and topological string theory on the resolved conifold. We employ Borel analysis to obtain the exact all-loop multi-instanton corrections to the free energies of the aforementioned models, and show that the leading pol…
We show that for two non-trivial lambda phi ^4 problems (the anharmonic oscillator and the Landau-Ginzburg hierarchical model), improved perturbative series can be obtained by cutting off the large field contributions. The modified series converge to values exponentially close to the exact ones. For lambda larger than some critical value, the method outperforms Pade's approximants and Borel summations. The method can also be used for series which are not Borel summable such as the double-well potential series. We show that semi-classical methods can be used to calculate the modified Feynman ru…
We study idealizations of the full nonlinear Schwinger-Dyson equations for the asymptotically free theory of $ϕ^3$ in six dimensions in its meta-stable vacuum. We begin with the cubic nonlinearity and go on to all-order nonlinearities which contain instanton effects. We show how our toy models of the cubic Schwinger-Dyson equations contain the usual diseases of perturbation theory in the massless limit (e.g., factorially divergent $β-$functions, singular Borel-transform kernels associated with infrared renormalons) and show how these models yield specific mechanisms for removing such singulari…
We present the Hopf algebra of renormalization and introduce the renormalization group equation in this framework. Some linear Schwinger--Dyson equations are studied, and exact solutions are presented. Then we study the Schwinger--Dyson equation of the massless Wess--Zumino model in the physical plane and in the Borel plane. In the former the asymptotics of the solution of the Schwinger--Dyson equation is found and its perturbations are computed. In the later we study the singularities of the solution and their transcendental contents. The last chapter is a presentation of the BV formalism see…
We apply a recently developed method to exactly solve the $Φ^3$ matrix model with covariance of a two-dimensional theory, also known as regularised Kontsevich model. Its correlation functions collectively describe graphs on a multi-punctured 2-sphere. We show how Ward-Takahashi identities and Schwinger-Dyson equations lead in a special large-$\mathcal{N}$ limit to integral equations that we solve exactly for all correlation functions. Remarkably, these functions are analytic in the $Φ^3$ coupling constant, although bounds on individual graphs justify only Borel summability. The solved model ar…
The overview is given of the results obtained recently in the course of renormalization-group (RG) study of two-dimensional (2D) models. RG functions of the two-dimensional n-vector λϕ^4 Euclidean field theory are written down up to the five-loop terms and perturbative series are resummed by the Pade-Borel-Leroy techniques. An account for the five-loop term is shown to shift the Wilson fixed point only briefly, leaving it outside the segment formed by the results of the lattice calculations. This is argued to reflect the influence of the non-analytical contribution to the β-function. The evalu…
