We present an updated version of the ABMP16 nucleon PDFs, which is tuned by using recent precise data on $W$- and $Z/γ^*$-production at the LHC and the final HERA data on DIS $c$- and $b$-quark production and by imposing a stringent $Q^2$-cut on the inclusive DIS data in order to avoid the impact of higher twist terms at small $x$ at HERA. The new $W$- and $Z$-boson production data, in particular the updated version of the ATLAS data at the c.m.s. energy 7 TeV, are well accommodated into the present fit. The strange sea distribution obtained is consistent with the average of the up and down quark ones at small $x$. However, it is still suppressed with respect to the non-strange one by a factor of $\sim 0.5$ at moderate $x$. The small-$x$ gluon distribution is enhanced as compared to the previous ABMP16 fit, in line with updated data on the DIS $c$-quark production. Finally, a good description of the non-resonant $γ^*/Z$-production data, which are included into the ABM analysis for the first time, is achieved provided the photon-initiated lepton pair production is taken into account.
A precise knowledge of the quark and gluon structure of the proton, encoded by the parton distribution functions (PDFs), is of paramount importance for the interpretation of high-energy processes at present and future lepton-hadron and hadron-hadron colliders. Motivated by recent progress in the PDF determinations carried out by the CT, MSHT, and NNPDF groups, we present an updated combination of global PDF fits: PDF4LHC21. It is based on the Monte Carlo combination of the CT18, MSHT20, and NNPDF3.1 sets followed by either its Hessian reduction or its replica compression. Extensive benchmark s…
There have been recent updates to the three global PDF fits (CT, MSHT and NNPDF), all adding large amounts of data from the LHC, and this has resulted in significant changes to the global PDFs. Given the impact that the new PDFs will have on physics comparisons at the LHC, it is crucial to perform a benchmarking among the PDFs, similar in spirit to that which was carried out for PDF4LHC15, widely used for LHC physics. In this article we detail a benchmarking comparison of three global PDF sets - CT18, MSHT20 and NNPDF3.1 - and their similarities and differences that have been observed. The end…
The production of $W$/$Z$-bosons in association with jets is an important test of perturbative QCD predictions and also yields information about the parton distribution functions of the proton. We present fits to determine PDFs using inclusive $W$/$Z$-boson and $W$/$Z$+jets measurements from the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. The ATLAS measurements are used in combination with deep-inelastic scattering data from HERA. An improved determination of the sea-quark densities at high Bjorken-$x$ is seen, while confirming a strange-quark density similar in size to the up- and down-sea-quark densities i…
We discuss recent CTEQ-TEA group activities after the publication of the CT18 global analysis of parton distribution functions (PDFs) in the proton. In particular, we discuss a new calculation for the photon content in the proton, termed as CT18lux and CT18qed PDFs, and the impact of novel charm- and bottom-quark production cross section measurements at HERA on the CT18 global analysis.
We present the MSHT20qed set of parton distribution functions (PDFs). These are obtained from the MSHT20 global analysis via a refit including QED corrections to the DGLAP evolution at ${\cal O}(α),{\cal O}(αα_S)$ and ${\cal O}(α^2)$, and containing the photon PDF of the proton. As in the previous MMHT15qed study we use an input distribution for the photon that is derived from the LUXqed formulation, and find good consistency for the photon PDF with that of MMHT15qed, as well as with other recent sets. We also present a set of QED corrected neutron PDFs and accompanying photon distribution, an…
Fitting PDFs requires the integration of a broad range of datasets, both from data and theory side, into a unique framework. While for data the integration mainly consists in the standardization of the data format, for the theory predictions there are multiple ingredients involved. Different providers are developed by separate groups for different processes, with a variety of inputs (runcards) and outputs (interpolation grids). Moreover, since processes are measured at different scales, DGLAP evolution has to be provided for the PDF candidate, or precomputed into the grids. We are working towa…
By applying the Error PDF Updating Method, we analyze the impact of the absolute and normalized single differential cross-sections for top-quark pair production data from the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the Large Hadron Collider, at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}= 8$ TeV, on the CT14HERA2 PDFs. We find that the top quark pair single differential distributions provide minor constraints on the CT14HERA2 gluon PDF when the nominal CT14HERA2 inclusive jet production data are included in the fit. Larger constraints on the gluon distribution are present when the jet data are removed (CT14HERA…
This proceeding presents a new set of proton parton distribution functions, ATLASepWZVjet20, produced in an analysis at next-to-next-to-leading-order in QCD. The new datasets considered are the ATLAS measurements of $W^{\pm}$ and $Z$ boson production in association with jets in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 8 TeV at the LHC with integrated luminosities of 20.2 fb$^{-1}$ and 19.9 fb$^{-1}$ respectively. The analysis also considers the ATLAS measurements of differential $W^{\pm}$ and $Z$ boson production at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV with an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb$^{-1}$ and deep-inelastic sc…
Modern parton distribution function (PDF) determinations either neglect higher-order corrections in the electroweak (EW) coupling or implement them approximately for a subset of PDF processes. We present a new tool, PineAPPL, which supports perturbative correction in arbitrary powers of the EW and strong coupling constant, and stores theoretical predictions independently of the used PDFs in so-called interpolation grids. These are the foundation of any PDF determination, and will allow us to perform a PDF fit taking into account EW corrections for all processes consistently. Apart from PDF det…
