We introduce a twisted cohomology cocycle over the Teichmueller flow and prove a "spectral gap" for its Lyapunov spectrum with respect to the Masur-Veech measures. We then derive Hoelder estimates on spectral measures and bounds on the speed of weak mixing for almost all translation flows in every stratum of Abelian differentials on Riemann surfaces, as well as bounds on the deviation of ergodic averages for product translation flows on the product of a translation surface with a circle.
We show that a typical interval exchange transformation is either weakly mixing or it is an irrational rotation. We also conclude that a typical translation flow on a surface of genus $g \geq 2$ (with prescribed singularity types) is weakly mixing.

We consider piecewise monotone maps, we show that an ergodic measure for which the map is invertible almost everywhere can not be mixing. It follows that every ergodic measure for an interval translation mapping is not mixing. We also show that double rotations without periodic points have an ergodic but not weakly mixing invariant measure. This article is dedicated to the memory of Anatoly Mikhailovich Stepin.
Let $d >1$. In this paper we show that for an irreducible permutation $π$ which is not a rotation, the set of $[λ]\in \mathbb{P}_+^{d-1}$ such that the interval exchange transformation $f([λ],π)$ is not weakly mixing does not have full Hausdorff dimension. We also obtain an analogous statement for translation flows. In particular, it strengthens the result of almost sure weak mixing proved by G. Forni and the first author. We adapt here the probabilistic argument developed in their paper in order to get some large deviation results. We then show how the latter can be converted into estimates o…
We consider suspension flows over uniquely ergodic skew-translations on a $d$-dimensional torus $\mathbb{T}^d$, for $d \geq 2$. We prove that there exists a set $\mathscr{R}$ of smooth functions, which is dense in the space $\mathscr{C}(\mathbb{T}^d)$ of continuous functions, such that every roof function in $\mathscr{R}$ which is not cohomologous to a constant induces a mixing suspension flow. We also construct a dense set of mixing examples which is explicitly described in terms of their Fourier coefficients. In the language of nilflows on nilmanifolds, our result implies that, for every uni…
We construct, over some minimal translations of the two torus, special flows under a differentiable ceiling function that combine the properties of mixing and rank one.
The aim of this paper is to establish exponential mixing of frame flow for the measure of maximal entropy on a convex cocompact hyperbolic manifold. Consequences include results on the decay of matrix coefficients and on effective equidistribution of holonomies. The main technical point is a spectral bound on certain twisted transfer operators, which we obtain by building on Dolgopyat's framework. This extends and strengthens earlier work of Dolgopyat, Stoyanov, Pollicott, and others.
In this paper, we study topological properties of the right action by translation of the Weyl Chamber flow on the space of Weyl chambers. We obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for topological mixing. (1)
The paper is devoted to generic translation flows corresponding to Abelian differentials with one zero of order two on flat surfaces of genus two. These flows are weakly mixing by the Avila-Forni theorem. Our main result gives first quantitative estimates on their spectrum, establishing the Hoelder property for the spectral measures of Lipschitz functions. The proof proceeds via uniform estimates of twisted Birkhoff integrals in the symbolic framework of random Markov compacta and arguments of Diophantine nature in the spirit of Salem, Erdos and Kahane.
In this paper we prove that translation structures for which the corresponding vertical translation flows is weakly mixing and disjoint with its inverse, form a $G_δ$-dense set in every non-hyperelliptic connected component of the moduli space $\mathcal M$. This is in contrast to hyperelliptic case, where for every translation structure the associated vertical flow is isomorphic to its inverse. To prove the main result, we study limits of the off-diagonal 3-joinings of special representations of vertical translation flows. Moreover, we construct a locally defined continuous embedding of the mo…
Let $G$ be a connected simple linear Lie group of rank one, and let $Γ<G$ be a discrete Zariski dense subgroup admitting a finite Bowen-Margulis-Sullivan measure $m^{\operatorname{BMS}}$. We show that the right translation action of the one dimensional diagonalizable subgroup is mixing on $(Γ\backslash G, m^{\operatorname{BMS}})$. Together with the work of Roblin, this proves ergodicity of the Burger-Roblin measure under the horospherical group $N$, establishes a classification theorem for $N$ invariant Radon measures on $Γ\backslash G$, and provides precise asymptotics for the Haar measure ma…
We study global-local mixing for a family of accessible skew products with an exponentially mixing base and non-compact fibers, preserving an infinite measure. For a dense set of almost periodic global observables, we prove rapid mixing; and for a dense set of global observables vanishing at infinity, we prove polynomial mixing. More generally, we relate the speed of mixing to the "low frequency behaviour" of the spectral measure associated to our global observables. Our strategy relies on a careful choice of the spaces of observables and on the study of a family of twisted transfer operators.
Let $τ_r(x,x_0)$ be the time needed for a point $x$ to enter for the first time in a ball $B_r(x_0)$ centered in $x_0$, with small radius $r$. We construct a class of translations on the two torus having particular arithmetic properties (Liouville components with intertwined denominators of convergents) not satisfying a logarithm law, i.e. such that for generic $x,x_0$ \liminf_{r\to 0} \frac{\log τ_r(x,x_0)}{-\log r} = \infty. By considering a suitable reparametrization of the flow generated by a suspension of this translation, using a previous construction by Fayad, we show the existence of a…
