The phenomenon of neutrino flavor oscillations motivates searches for sterile neutrinos in a broad range of masses and mixing-parameter values. A sterile neutrino $N$ that mixes predominantly with the $τ$ neutrino is particularly challenging experimentally. To address this challenge, we propose a new method to search for a $ν_τ$-mixing with $N$ lighter than the $τ$ lepton. The method uses the large $e^+e^-\toτ^+τ^-$ samples collected at $B$-factory experiments to produce the $N$ in $τ$-lepton decays. We exploit the long lifetime of a sterile neutrino in this mass range to suppress background and apply kinematic and vertexing constraints that enable measuring the sterile neutrino mass. Estimates for the sensitivities of the BaBar, Belle, and Belle~II experiments are calculated and presented.
Precise measurement of the Electric Dipole Moment (EDM) and anomalous magnetic moment ($g$-2) of particles are important tests of Beyond Standard Model (BSM) physics. It is generally believed that the tau lepton couples more strongly to BSM due to its large mass, and can be searched for at collider experiments. A new method to approximately reconstruct the neutrinos from the hadronic decays of $τ^-τ^+$ pairs produced at $e^-e^+$ tau factories is proposed. With all final state particle momenta available, observables based on matrix elements and sensitive to BSM are calculated. It is estimated t…
The platinum channel (ν_e or anti-ν_e appearance) has been proposed at neutrino factories as an additional channel that could help in lifting degeneracies and improving sensitivities to neutrino oscillation parameters, viz., θ_{13}, δ_{CP}, mass hierarchy, deviation of θ_{23} from maximality and its octant. This channel corresponds to ν_μ-> ν_e (or the corresponding anti-particle) oscillations of the initial neutrino flux, with the subsequent detection of (positrons) electrons from charged current interactions of the (anti-) ν_e in the detector. For small values of θ_{13}, the dominant ν_μ\to …
We discuss precision measurements of the leading atmospheric parameters at a standard neutrino factory with a detector that is sensitive to muons alone. The oscillation of the muon- and electron neutrinos in the neutrino factory beam to tau neutrinos adds to the muon events sample (both right sign and wrong sign) via leptonic decays of the taus produced through charge-current interactions in the detector. In particular, we study how this affects a precision measurement of the atmospheric mixing parameters and the deviation of nu_mu <--> nu_tau mixing from maximality. In spite of the enhancemen…
We study possible contributions of heavy sterile neutrinos $ν_h$ to the decays $τ^-\to e^{\pm}(μ^{\pm})π^{\mp}π^-$. From the experimental upper bounds on their rates we derive new constraints on the $ν_h-ν_τ$ mixing in the mass region $140.5{MeV}\leq m_{ν_h}\leq 1637$ MeV. We discuss cosmological and astrophysical status of $ν_h$ in this mass region and compare our constraints with those recently derived by the NOMAD collaboration.
We discuss how a $L_e-L_μ-L_τ$ flavour symmetry that is softly broken leads to keV sterile neutrinos, which are a prime candidate for Warm Dark Matter. This is to our knowledge the first model where flavour symmetries are applied simultaneously to active and sterile neutrinos explaining at the same time active neutrino properties and this peculiar Dark Matter scenario. The essential point is that different scales of the symmetry breaking and the symmetry preserving entries in the mass matrix lead to one right-handed neutrino which is nearly massless compared to the other two. Furthermore, we n…
Three light sterile neutrinos (ν_e^s, ν_μ^s and ν_τ^s) are introduced to accommodate all the available neutrino data: the atmospheric neutrino anomaly is explained by ν_μ-ν_μ^s oscillation with maximal mixing; the solar one is due to ν_e-ν_e^s oscillation of small angle Mikheyev-Smirnov-Wolfenstein type; the Liquid Scintillation Neutrino Detector data is from ν_e -ν_μoscillations, so that the neutrinos can be the hot component of the dark matter. The big bang nucleosynthesis constraint is satisfied by taking the tau neutrino to be 10 MeV heavy. The ν_τdecay is discussed in a model of gauge med…
The current case for atmospheric $ν_μ$ oscillations into active or sterile neutrinos is reviewed. It is argued that neither the study of neutral current events at Super-Kamiokande, nor the information obtained from future long baseline experiments might be sufficient to unambigously decide between these two scenarios. However, a combination of these results with the results from future short or intermediate baseline $τ$ appearance experiments would clearly resolve most of the remaining ambiguities. This conclusion does not strongly depend on whether the results from LSND will be confirmed or n…
The proposed high-luminosity B/Flavor factories offer new opportunities for the improved determination of the fundamental physical parameters of standard heavy leptons. Compared to the electron or the muon case, the magnetic properties of the $τ$ lepton are largely unexplored. We show that the electromagnetic properties of the $τ$, and in particular its magnetic form factor, may be measured competitively in these facilities, using unpolarized or polarized electron beams. Various observables of the $τ$'s produced on top of the $Υ$ resonances, such as cross-section and normal polarization for un…
In this work, we study the lepton number violating tau decays via two intermediate on-shell Majorana neutrinos $N_j$ into two charged pions, and a charged lepton $τ^{\pm} \to π^{\pm} N_j \to π^{\pm} π^{\pm} \ell^{\mp}$. We consider the scenario where the heavy neutrino masses are within $0.5$ GeV $\leq M_N \leq 1.5$ GeV. We evaluated the possibility to measure the modulation of the decay width along the detector length for these processes at taus factories, such as Belle II. We study some realistic conditions which could lead to the observation of this phenomenon at futures $τ$'s factories.
The mixing of active neutrinos with their sterile counterparts with keV mass is known to have a potentially major impact on the energy loss from the supernova core. By relying on a set of three static hydrodynamical backgrounds mimicking the early accretion phase and the Kelvin-Helmoltz cooling phase of a supernova, we develop the first self-consistent, radial- and time-dependent treatment of sterile and tau neutrinos mixing in the dense stellar core. We follow the flavor evolution by including ordinary matter effects, collisional production of sterile neutrinos, as well as reconversions of st…
We demonstrate how probes of CP-violating observables in Higgs di-tau decays at prospective future lepton colliders could provide a test of weak scale baryogenesis with significant discovery potential. Measurements at the Circular Electron Positron Collider, for example, could exclude a CP phase larger than $2.9^\circ$ ($5.6^\circ$) at 68% (95%) C.L. assuming the Standard Model value for magnitude of the tau lepton Yukawa coupling. Conversely, this sensitivity would allow for a $5\,σ$ discovery for 82% of the CP phase range $[0,2π)$. The reaches of the Future Circular Collider - ee and Interna…
$D^0-\bar{D}^0$ mixing leads to the mass and width differences in the mass eigenstates of $D^0$ and $\bar{D}^0$ mesons (measured by parameters $x^{~}_D$ and $y^{~}_D$ respectively), but their magnitudes cannot be reliably predicted by the standard model. We show that it is possible to separately determine $x^{~}_D$ and $y^{~}_D$ through {\it time-integrated} measurements of the dilepton events of coherent $D^0\bar{D}^0$ decays on the $ψ(4.14)$ resonance at a $τ$-charm factory.
The measurement of B->tau nu at the B factories provides important constraints on the parameter tan beta/m_H^+- in the context of models with two Higgs doublets. Limits on this decay from e+e- collisions at the Z peak were sensitive to the sum of B->tau nu and B_c->tau nu. Due to the possibly sizeable contribution from B_c->tau nu we suggest that a signal for this combination might be observed if the LEP L3 Collaboration used their total data of ~3.6 10^6 hadronic decays of the Z boson. Moreover, we point out that a future Linear Collider operating at the Z peak (Giga Z option) could constrain…
Light sterile neutrinos can be probed in a number of ways, including electroweak decays, cosmology and neutrino oscillation experiments. At long-baseline experiments, the neutral-current data is directly sensitive to the presence of light sterile neutrinos: once the active neutrinos have oscillated into a sterile state, a depletion in the neutral-current data sample is expected since they do not interact with the $Z$ boson. This channel offers a direct avenue to probe the mixing between a sterile neutrino and the tau neutrino, which remains largely unconstrained by current data. In this work, …
In tau physics, we are at the frontier between the completion of the LEP program and the start of analyses from b-factories, which are expected to produce results in the coming years. Nice results from CLEO are steadily delivered in the meantime. For charm, impressive progress have been achieved by fixed target experiments in the search for CP violation and D^0 - \bar D^0 oscillations. First results from b-factories demonstrate the power of these facilities in such areas. The novel measurement of the D* width by CLEO happens to be rather different from current expectations. The absence of a ch…
Current results of the MiniBooNE experiment show excess events that indicate neutrino oscillations, but only if one goes beyond the standard 3 family scenario. Recently a different explanation of the events has been given, not in terms of oscillations but by the production and decay of a massive sterile neutrino with large transition magnetic moment. We study the effect of such a sterile neutrino in the rare decays $τ^- \rightarrow μ^- μ^+ π^- ν$ and $τ^{-}\rightarrow μ^{-} μ^{+} e^{-} νν$. We find that searches for these decays featuring displaced vertices between the $μ^-$ and the other char…
Two unusual neutrino events in the Antarctic Impulse Transient Antenna (ANITA) appear to have been generated by air showers from a particle emerging from the Earth at angles 25-35 degrees above the horizon. We evaluate the effective aperture for ANITA with a simplified detection model to illustrate the features of the angular dependence of expected events for incident standard model tau neutrinos and for sterile neutrinos that mix with tau neutrinos. We apply our sterile neutrino aperture results to a dark matter scenario with long-lived supermassive dark matter that decay to sterile neutrino-…
We consider the sensitivity of the DUNE experiment to a heavy neutral lepton, HNL (also known as sterile neutrino) in the mass range from a few MeV to a few GeV, interacting with the Standard Model via a transition magnetic moment to the active neutrinos, the so-called dipole portal. The HNL is produced via the upscattering of active neutrinos, and the subsequent decay inside the detector provides a single-photon signal. We show that the tau-neutrino dipole portal can be efficiently probed at the DUNE far detector, using the tau-neutrino flux generated by neutrino oscillations, while the near …
Active-sterile neutrino mixing is strongly constrained for m_s > 100 keV to avoid excessive energy losses from supernova cores. For smaller m_s, matter effects suppress the effective mixing angle except for a resonant range of energies where it is enhanced. We study the case of ν_tau-ν_s-mixing where a ν_tau-\barν_tau asymmetry builds up due to the strong excess of ν_s over \barν_s emission or vice versa, reducing the overall emission rate. In the warm dark matter range m_s < 10 keV the mixing angle is essentially unconstrained.
TAUOLA is a Monte Carlo generator dedicated to generating tau-lepton decays and it is used in the analysis of experimental data both at B-factories and LHC. TAUOLA is a long-term project that started in the 90's and has been under development up to now. In this note we discuss the status of the predominant hadronic tau-lepton decays into two ($Br \simeq 25.52\%$) and three pions ($Br \simeq 18.67\%$).
In sterile neutrino scenarios, radiative corrections induce mass splittings proportional to the top Yukawa coupling, in contrast to the three active neutrino case where the induced splittings are proportional to the tau Yukawa coupling. In view of this, we have analyzed the stability of the four-neutrino schemes favored by oscillation experiments, consisting in two pairs of nearly degenerate neutrinos separated by the LSND gap. Requiring compatibility with the measurements of the abundances of primordial elements produced in Big Bang Nucleosynthesis, we find that when the heaviest pair corresp…
In this work, we study the possible unparticle signatures through tau pair production e+e- -> tau+tau- process at the low energy particle factories. We take into account lepton flavor conserving (s-channel) and violating (t-channel) couplings for the unparticle leptonic interactions. For different values of the scaling parameter d we extract upper limits on the scalar unparticle couplings at the integrated luminosities of 100/fb.yr and 1 ab/fb.yr.
We update theoretical studies of the physics opportunities presented by mu+mu- Higgs factories. Interesting measurements of the Standard Model Higgs decays into {\bar b}b, tau+tau- and WW* may be possible if the Higgs mass is less than about 160 GeV, as preferred by the precision electroweak data, the mass range being extended by varying appropriately the beam energy resolution. A suitable value of the beam energy resolution would also enable the uncertainty in the b-quark mass to be minimized, facilitating measurements of parameters in the MSSM at such a first mu+mu- Higgs factory. These meas…
In the paper "Big Bang Nucleosynthesis and Active-Sterile Neutrino Mixing: Evidence for Maximal Muon-Neutrino/Sterile-Neutrino Mixing in Super Kamiokande" (astro-ph/9810075), we suggested that to evade the Big Bang Nucleosynthesis exclusion of the muon neutrino to sterile neutrino oscillation explanation of the Super Kamiokande data, the tau neutrino must have a mass over about 15 eV and it must mix with a lighter sterile neutrino. A stable tau neutrino with this mass is inconsistent with cosmological structure formation. In a comment on our paper (astro-ph/9811067), Foot and Volkas argued tha…
The tau anomalous magnetic moment (a_tau) and electric dipole moment (d_tau) have not yet been observed. The present bounds on their values are of order 10^-2 and 10^-17 e*cm, respectively. We propose to measure a_tau with a precision of O(10^-3) or better and improve the existing limits on d_tau using precise tau- -> l- nu_tau \bar{nu}_l gamma (l=e or mu) data from high-luminosity B factories. A detailed feasibility study of this method is underway.
We analyze in details the impact of the $10$ $ν_τ$ events seen in the OPERA experiment in constraining the Non Standard Interaction parameter $\varepsilon_{μτ}$ affecting neutrino propagation in matter and the allowed parameter space of models with one sterile neutrino of the $3+1$ type.
Experiments measuring the parameters of active neutrino oscillations can also search for the sterile neutrinos in a part of sterile neutrino parameter space. In this paper, we analyze the prospects for the sterile neutrino search in the upcoming experiment DUNE for the sterile neutrinos with masses at GeV scale. As it relies on the still-undecided design of the Near Detector, we provide the expected number of the sterile neutrino decays in the Near Detector volume. Our most optimistic predictions show that the corresponding limit on mixing can be approximately of the same order as the previous…
In this work we study the consistency of a possible non-vanishing coupling $Hμτ$ of the order of $3.6\times 10^{-3}$ as pointed recently by the CMS and ATLAS collaborations, with measured lepton flavor violation processes involving quarkonium. We show that the most promising channel to confirm this excess is to look for the lepton flavor tau decay into a $f_0$ and $μ$ where the experimental limit could strongly improved with the new B factories as Belle II.
We put constraints on several products of R-parity violating lambda lambda' and lambda' lambda' type couplings from leptonic and semileptonic tau, B_d and B_s decays. Most of them are one to two orders of magnitude better than the existing bounds, and almost free from theoretical uncertainties. A significant improvement of these bounds can be made in high luminosity tau-charm or B factories.
We discuss the potential of $τ$-charm and B factories for the search of new physics through the study of rare $τ$ decays. We consider decays that involve the violation of lepton flavour conservation. Such decays bear a close relationship to the physics of neutrino mass and the properties of the lepton sector of the electroweak theory.
I review the latest results on exotic, lepton flavor violating (LFV) and lepton number violating (LNV) decays of the B, D mesons and the tau leptons, obtained at the two B-factory experiments, Belle and BaBar. Where appropriate, results from other experiments are also described.
We study the feasibility to observe sterile neutrinos with masses in the range 5 GeV $< m_N < 20$ GeV at the LHC, using exclusive semileptonic modes involving pions, $W\to \ell N \to π\ell\ell, 2π\ell\ell$ and $3π\ell\ell$. We thus cover a mass window that is between what can be studied in meson factories and high energy colliders. We run simulations for these exclusive events, where pions should be distinguished from the background provided the neutrino decay exhibits a vertex displacement from its production point. In a previous work we have estimated the theoretical rates and here we analyz…
Non-leptonic two-body weak decays of baryons are an important tool to probe the combined charge-conjugation--parity symmetry (CP) violation. We explain why the decays of strange baryons provide complementary information to the decays of kaons. A model-independent parameterization of the non-leptonic decays of the $Λ$- and $Ξ$-baryons is reviewed, and the amplitudes are updated according to the latest experimental input. We demonstrate the potential of performing precision tests in strange baryon decays at the next generation electron-positron $J/ψ$ factories with luminosity of $10^{35}$ cm$^{-…
In a supersymmetric model with the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) $χ$ in the range of a few hundred MeV's, the decay $τ{\longrightarrow} μχχ$ is going to be allowed. We investigate the departure from tau-universality caused by this decay. It is found that the universality violation in this way can be greater than both non-universal electroweak radiative corrections and supersymmetric one-loop corrections over a considerable region of the parameter space allowed by experiments so far. Thus it suggests a method of constraining the parameter space with light LSP's using data from tau-fact…
A neutrino mass-mixing scheme which successfully avoids the "alpha effect," allowing r-process nucleosynthesis in the neutrino-heated ejecta of supernovae, quite independently requires the same parameters as the scheme which best fits all current indications for neutrino mass. The significance for particle physics is this independent evidence for (1) at least one light sterile neutrino, nu_s; (2) a near maximally-mixed nu_mu-nu_tau doublet split from a lower mass nu_mu-nu_s doublet; (3) nu_mu-nu_e mixing >~ 10^-4; and (4) a splitting between the doublets (measured by the nu_mu-nu_e mass differ…
Considering four-neutrino schemes of type 3+1, we identify four small regions of the neutrino mixing parameter space compatible with all data. Assuming a small mixing between the sterile neutrino and the isolated mass eigenstate we show that large nu_mu->nu_tau and nu_e->nu_tau transitions are predicted in short-baseline experiments and could be observed in the near future in dedicated experiments. We discuss also implications for solar, atmospheric and long-baseline neutrino experiments and we present a formalism that allows to describe in 3+1 schemes atmospheric neutrino oscillations, long-b…
The Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model contains in general sources of tau lepton flavour violation which induce the rare decays tau --> mu gamma and tau --> e gamma. We argue in this paper that the observation of both rare processes would imply a lower bound on the radiative muon decay of the form BR(mu --> e gamma) > C BR(tau --> mu gamma) BR(tau --> e gamma). We estimate the size of the constant C without specifying the origin of the tau flavour violation in the supersymmetric model and we discuss the implications of our bound for future searches of rare lepton decays. In particular, we s…
We estimate the most important corrections to the branching ratios for the invisible decays of quarkonium states, arising from possible extensions of the standard model. Among the possibilities considered are the presence of extra Z-bosons, minimal supersymmetric extensions of the standard model with R-parity violation, and decays into goldstinos. Prospects of detecting these corrections at existing and future B-factories and tau-charm factories are discussed.
We study the effect of sterile neutrino on some low scale processes in the framework of minimal extended seesaw (MES). MES is the extension of the seesaw mechanism with the addition of sterile neutrino of intermediate mass. The MES model in this work is based on $Δ(96)\times C_{2}\times C_{3}$ flavor symmetry. The structures of mass matrices in the framework lead to $TM_{1}$ mixing with $μ\text{-}τ$ symmetry. The model predicts maximal value of Dirac CP phase. We carry out our analysis to study the new physics contributions from the sterile neutrino to different charged lepton flavor violation…
Rare $B$ decays provide an opportunity to probe for new physics beyond the Standard Model. In this paper, we propose to measure the tau polarization in the inclusive decay $B\to X_sτ^+τ^-$ and discuss how it can be used, in conjunction with other observables, to completely determine the parameters of the flavor-changing low-energy effective Hamiltonian. Both the Standard Model and several new physics scenarios are examined. This process has a large enough branching fraction, $\sim {\rm few}\times 10^{-7}$, such that sufficient statistics will be provided by the B-Factories currently under cons…
The B Factories have generated a large amount of new results on the tau lepton. The present status of some selected topics on tau physics is presented: charged-current universality tests, bounds on lepton-flavour violation, the determination of alpha_s from the inclusive tau hadronic width, and the measurement of |V_{us}| through the Cabibbo-suppressed decays of the tau lepton.
We study the capabilities of IceCube to search for sterile neutrinos with masses above 10 eV by analyzing its $ν_μ$ disappearance atmospheric neutrino sample. We find that IceCube is not only sensitive to the mixing of sterile neutrinos to muon neutrinos, but also to the more elusive mixing with tau neutrinos through matter effects. The currently released 1-year data shows a mild (around 2$σ$) preference for non-zero sterile mixing, which overlaps with the favoured region for the sterile neutrino interpretation of the ANITA upward shower. Although the null results from CHORUS and NOMAD on $ν_μ…
In the Standard Model, scalar contributions to leptonic and semileptonic decays are helicity suppressed. The hypothesis of additional physical neutral/charged Higgses can enhance such scalar contributions and give detectable effects especially in B physics. For the charged Higgs, experimental information on both Br(B -> D tau nu) and Br(B -> tau nu) has already become available and in particular the B -> D tau nu branching ratio measurements will be further improved in the coming years. Hadronic uncertainties of scalar contributions in semileptonic decays are already in much better shape than …
We study extractions of |V_us| based on finite energy sum rule (FESR) analyses of hadronic tau decay data. We show (i) that the ``(0,0) spectral weight'' implementation (proposed previously in the literature as a favorable version of this analysis) suffers from significant convergence problems, but (ii) that alternate implementations exist which bring these problems under control. Results based on present spectral data are shown to be in agreement with those of other approaches, though with, at present, somewhat larger experimental errors. Sub-1% determinations of |V_us| are also shown to be e…
In this work, we study the lepton number violating tau decays via intermediate on-shell Majorana neutrinos $N_j$ into two scalar mesons and a lepton $τ^{\pm} \to M_1{}^{\pm} N_j \to M_1^{\pm} M_2^{\pm} \ell^{\mp}$. We calculate the Branching ratios $Br(τ^{\pm})$ and the CP asymmetry $(Γ(τ^+) - Γ(τ^-))/(Γ(τ^+) + Γ(τ^-))$ for such decays, in a scenario that contain at least two heavy Majorana neutrinos. The results show that the CP asymmetry is small, but becomes comparable with the branching ratio ${\rm Br}(τ^{\pm})$ when their mass difference is comparable with their decay width, $ΔM_N \sim Γ_…
We discuss oscillations of atmospheric and solar neutrinos into sterile neutrinos in the 2+2 scheme. A zeroth order sum rule requires equal probabilities for oscillation into nu_s and nu_tau in the solar+atmospheric data sample. Data does not favor this claim. Here we use scatter plots to assess corrections of the zeroth order sum rule when (i) the 4 x 4 neutrino mixing matrix assumes its full range of allowed values, and (ii) matter effects are included. We also introduce a related "product rule". We find that the sum rule is significantly relaxed, due to both the inclusion of the small mixin…
Since the 3+1 neutrino models with one light sterile neutrino turn out to be not very effective, at least two light sterile neutrinos may be needed to reconcile the solar and atmospheric neutrino experiments with the LSND result, {\it if} this is confirmed by the ongoing MiniBooNE experiment (and when the CPT invariance is assumed to hold for neutrino oscillations). We present an attractive 3+2 neutrino model, where two light sterile neutrinos mix maximally with each other, in analogy to the observed maximal mixing of muon and tauon active neutrinos. But, while the mixing of $ν_e$ and $(ν_μ-ν_…
It is now a firmly established fact that all family lepton numbers are violated in Nature. In this paper we discuss the implications of this observation for future searches for rare tau decays in the supersymmetric see-saw model. Using the two loop renormalization group evolution of the soft terms and the Yukawa couplings we show that there exists a lower bound on the rate of the rare process mu --> e gamma of the form BR(mu --> e gamma) > C BR(tau --> mu gamma) BR(tau --> e gamma), where C is a constant that depends on supersymmetric parameters. Our only assumption is the absence of cancellat…
We investigate features of the sterile neutrinos in the presence of a light gauge boson $X^μ$ that couples to the neutrino sector. The novel bounds on the active-sterile neutrino mixings $| U_{\ell 4} |^2$, especially for tau flavor ($l = τ$), from various collider and fixed target experiments are explored. Also, taking into account the additional decay channel of the sterile neutrino into a light gauge boson ($ν_4 \to ν_\ell e^+ e^-$), we explore and constrain a parameter space for low energy excess in neutrino oscillation experiments.
Distinguishing the Dirac and Majorana nature of neutrinos remains one of the most important tasks in neutrino physics. By assuming that the $τ^- \to π^- μ^- e^+ ν$ (or $\barν$) decay is resonantly enhanced by the exchange of an intermediate mass sterile neutrino $N$, we show that the energy spectrum of emitted pions and muons can be used to easily distinguish between the Dirac and Majorana nature of $N$. This method takes advantage of the fact that the flavor of light neutrinos is not identified in the tau decay under consideration. We find that it is particularly advantageous, because of no c…
The decays D(s)+- -> mu+- nu and D(s)+- -> tau+- nu have traditionally been used to measure the D(s)+- meson decay constant f_D(s). Recent measurements at CLEO-c and the B factories suggest a branching ratio for both decays somewhat higher than the Standard Model prediction using f_D(s) from unquenched lattice calculations. The charged Higgs boson (H+-) in the Two Higgs Doublet Model (Type II) would also mediate these decays, but any sizeable contribution from H+- can only suppress the branching ratios and consequently is now slightly disfavoured. It is shown that constraints on the parameters…
