We study rather general multiple zeta-functions whose denominators are given by polynomials. The main aim is to prove explicit formulas for the values of those multiple zeta-functions at non-positive integer points. We first treat the case when the polynomials are power sums, and observe that some ``trivial zeros'' exist. We also prove that special values are sometimes transcendental. Then we proceed to the general case, and show an explicit expression of special values at non-positive integer points which involves certain period integrals. We give examples of transcendental values of those special values or period integrals. We also mention certain relations among Bernoulli numbers which can be deduced from our explicit formulas. Our proof of explicit formulas are based on the Euler-Maclaurin summation formula, Mahler's theorem, and a Raabe-type lemma due to Friedman and Pereira.
In this note, for each odd prime $p$, we show that the orders of the $KU$-local homotopy groups of the mod $p$ Moore spectrum are equal to denominators of special values of certain quotients of Dedekind zeta-functions of totally real number fields. With this observation in hand, we give a cute topological proof of the Leopoldt conjecture for those number fields, by showing that it is a consequence of periodicity properties of $KU$-local stable homotopy groups.
We extend the results of our previous computer experiment performed on the first 2600 nontrivial zeros $γ_l$ of the Riemann zeta function calculated with 1000 digits accuracy to the set of 40000 first zeros given with 40000 decimal digits accuracy. We calculated the geometrical means of the denominators of continued fractions expansions of these zeros and for all cases we get values very close to the Khinchin's constant, which suggests that $γ_l$ are irrational. Next we have calculated the $n$-th square roots of the denominators $Q_n$ of the convergents of the continued fractions obtaining val…
Consider the average of the first n k-th powers. We pose and answer the following natural question: For which values of n and k is this average an integer? If k is odd the answer is easy; it is an integer as long as n is incongruent to 2 modulo 4. If k is even then the criterion involves the denominator of the k-th Bernoulli number. The average is an integer iff $n$ is not divisible by any prime which divides the denominator of the k-th Bernoulli number.
This article describes a sequence of rational functions which converges locally uniformly to the zeta function. The numerators (and denominators) of these rational functions can be expressed as characteristic polynomials of matrices that are on the face of it very simple. As a consequence, the Riemann hypothesis can be restated as what looks like a rather conventional spectral problem but which is related to the one found by Connes in his analysis of the zeta function. However the point here is that the rational approximations look to be susceptible of quantitative estimation.
We use a method, first developed for the Riemann zeta-function by Masser in ["Rational values of the Riemann zeta function", Journ. Num. Th. 131 (2011), 2037-2046], to prove a new zero estimate for polynomials in z and 1/Gamma(z). This allows us to prove that, for all n>=2, there exists an absolute effective positive constant C(n) such that, for all D>=3, there are at most C(n)log^2(D)/loglog(D) rational numbers z in [n-1,n] with denominator at most D and such that Gamma(z) is also rational with denominator at most D.
The author has found today an error in the denominator of the residue equation (4.5). This unfortunate mistake makes the conclusions and the title of the paper incorrect. The function $Z(s,x)$ is regular at $x=1$ and the multivalued part disappears. The original motivation of the paper was to derive an old (and correct!) result due to the author using a different approach.
In this paper, we investigate the ``shuffle-type'' formula for special values of desingularized multiple zeta functions at integer points. It is proved by giving an iterated integral/differential expression for the desingularized multiple zeta functions at integer points.
Given a positive integer $n$ we let $A_k(n)$ be the number of positive integers $a$ such that $\frac{a}{n}=\frac{1}{m_1}+\frac{1}{m_2}+\cdots+\frac{1}{m_k}$ for some $m_1,m_2,\ldots,m_k\in {\mathbb N}$. We show that $x(\log x)^3\ll \sum_{p\le x} A_3(p)\ll x(\log x)^5$ as $x\rightarrow\infty$.
In this paper, we provide an alternative method to calculate the values of generalized multiple Hurwitz zeta function at non-positive integers by means of \emph{Raabe}'s formula and the \textit{Bernoulli} numbers.
We give a result on the asymptotic behavior of the Hurwitz-Lerch multiple zeta functions near non-positive integer points by using the Apostol-Bernoulli polynomials. From this result, we can evaluate limit values at non-positive integer points.
In [P] R. Pellikaan introduced a two variable zeta-function for a curve over a finite field and proved that it is a rational function. Here we show that its denominator is absolutely irreducible. This is motivated by work of J. Lagarias and E. Rains on an analogous two variable zeta-funtion for number fields.
We prove two theorems. Theorem 1 gives the meromorphic continuation of the multiple zeta function to the whole space. In Theorem 2, we prove asymptotic behavior near the non-positive integers.
We have used the first 2600 nontrivial zeros gamma_l of the Riemann zeta function calculated with 1000 digits accuracy and developed them into the continued fractions. We calculated the geometrical means of the denominators of these continued fractions and for all cases we get values close to the Khinchin's constant, what suggests that gamma_l are irrational. Next we have calculated the n-th square roots of the denominators q_n of the convergents of the continued fractions obtaining values close to the Khinchin-Levy constant, again supporting the common believe that gamma_l are irrational.
Two theorems of elmentary arithmetic, one stating that the sum of the reciprocals of any number of consecutive positive integers is never an integer, and a generalization thereof by Trygve Nagell, are shown to be provable inside a very weak arithmetic, Richard Kaye's $PA^-$, in which there is no induction axiom whatsoever.
An Egyptian fraction is a sum of distinct unit fractions (reciprocals of positive integers). We show that every rational number has Egyptian fraction representations where the number of terms is of the same order of magnitude as the largest denominator, improving a result from an earlier paper to best-possible form. We also settle, in best-possible form, the related problem of how small M_t(r) can be such that there is an Egyptian fraction representation of r with exactly t terms, the denominators of which are all at most M_t(r). We also consider the following problems posed by Erdos and Graha…
Motivated by Euler-Goldbach and Shallit-Zikan theorems, we introduce zeta-one functions with infinite sums of $n^{s}\pm1$ as an analogy of the Riemann zeta function. Then we compute values of these functions at positive even integers by the residue theorem.
Symbolic computation techniques are used to derive some closed form expressions for an analytic continuation of the Euler-Zagier zeta function evaluated at the negative integers as recently proposed by B. Sadaoui. This approach allows to compute explicitly some contiguity identities, recurrences on the depth of the zeta values and generating functions.
We give new closed and explicit formulas for "multiple zeta values" at non-positive integers of generalized Euler-Zagier multiple zeta-functions. We first prove these formulas for a small convenient class of these multiple zeta-functions and then use the analyticity of the values on the parameters defining the multiple zeta-functions to deduce the formulas in the general case. Also, for our aim we prove an extension of "Raabe's lemma" due to E. Friedman and A. Pereira.
We give an instant evaluation of multiple Zeta function at non-positive integers by elementary methods and discuss the Fourier theory (on unit interval) of the product of Bernoulli polynomials. We also show that the polynomial expression for Hurwitz Zeta function(at non-positive integral values of the first variable) and the polynomial expression for Bernoulli polynomials are equivalent.
We show the recurrence relations of the Euler-Zagier multiple zeta-function which describes the $r$-fold function with one variable specialized to a non-positive integer as a rational linear combination of $(r-1)$-fold functions, which extends the previous results of Akiyama-Egami-Tanigawa and Matsumoto. As an application, we obtain an explicit method to calculate the special values of the multiple zeta-function at any integer point (the arguments could be neither all-positive nor all-non-positive) as a rational linear summation of the multiple zeta values.
Historically known as the Basel problem, evaluating the Riemann zeta function at two has resulted in numerous proofs, many of which have been generalized to compute the function's values at even positive integers. We apply Parseval's identity to the Bernoulli polynomials to find such values.
We study the behavior of partially twisted multiple zeta-functions. We give new closed and explicit formulas for special values at non-positive integer points of such zeta-functions. Our method is based on a result of M. de Crisenoy on the fully twisted case and the Mellin-Barnes integral formula.
We present a remarkably simple and surprisingly natural interpretation of the values of zeta functions at negative integers and zero. Namely we are able to relate these values to areas related to partial sums of powers. We apply these results to further interpretations of values of $L$-functions at negative integers. We hint in a very brief way at some expected connections of this work with other current efforts to understand the mysteries of the values of zeta functions at integers.
In a recent paper the author derived a formula for calculating common denominators for the homogeneous components of the Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff (BCH) series. In the present work it is proved that this formula actually yields the smallest such common denominators. In an appendix a new efficient algorithm for computing coefficients of the BCH series is presented, which is based on these common denominators, and requires only integer arithmetic rather than less efficient rational arithmetic.
Using a summation identity obtained for the Fourier coefficients of $x^{2k}$, we derive a closed form expression for the zeta function at even positive integers, using a technique similar to one in an existing proof by Aladdi and Defant[1], but in a simpler and shorter way.
Euler discovered a formula for expressing the value of the Riemann zeta function for all even positive integer arguments. A closed-form expression for the Riemann zeta function for all odd integer arguments, based on the values of the Dirichlet beta function, euler numbers and pi, reveals a new evidence about the self-recursive nature of Riemann zeta function at odd integers. We demonstrate for the first time that the Riemann zeta function at odd integers always produces a recurrence relation that is self-recursive.
In this article, we introduce a recurrence formula which only involves two adjacent values of the Riemann zeta function at integer arguments. Based on the formula, an algorithm to evaluate $ζ$-values(i.e. the values of Riemann zeta function) at odd-integers from the two nearest $ζ$-values at even-integers is posed and proved. The behavior of the error bound is $O(10^{-n})$ approximately where $n$ is the argument. Our method is especially powerful for the calculation of Riemann zeta function at large argument, while for smaller ones it can also reach spectacular accuracies such as more than ten…
Every positive rational number has representations as Egyptian fractions (sums of reciprocals of distinct positive integers) with arbitrarily many terms and with arbitrarily large denominators. However, such representations normally use a very sparse subset of the positive integers up to the largest demoninator. We show that for every positive rational there exist Egyptian fractions whose largest denominator is at most N and whose denominators form a positive proportion of the integers up to N, for sufficiently large N; furthermore, the proportion is within a small factor of best possible.
We give a new and very concise proof of the existence of a holomorphic continuation for a large class of twisted multivariable zeta functions. To do this, we use a simple method of "decalage" that avoids using an integral representation of the zeta function. This allows us to derive explicit recurrence {\it relations} between the values at $T-$tuples of negative integers. This also extends some earlier results of several authors where the underlying polynomials were products of linear forms.
This work is a study of $p$-adic multiple zeta values at roots of unity ($p$MZV$μ_{N}$'s), the $p$-adic periods of the crystalline pro-unipotent fundamental groupoid of $(\mathbb{P}^{1} - \{0,μ_{N},\infty\})/ \mathbb{F}_{q}$. The main tool is new objects which we call $p$-adic pro-unipotent harmonic actions. In this part IV we define and study $p$-adic analogues of some elementary complex analytic functions which interpolate multiple zeta values at roots of unity such as the multiple zeta functions. The indices of $p$MZV$μ_{N}$'s involve sequences of positive integers ; in this IV-1, by consid…
In this article, we study the local behaviour of the multiple zeta functions at integer points and write down a Laurent type expansion of the multiple zeta functions around these points. Such an expansion involves a convergent power series whose coefficients are obtained by a regularisation process, similar to the one used in defining the classical Stieltjes constants for the Riemann zeta function. We therefore call these coefficients {\it multiple Stieltjes constants}. The remaining part of the above mentioned Laurent type expansion is then expressed in terms of the multiple Stieltjes constan…
Recently, T. Kim considered Euler zeta function which interpolates Euler polynomials at negative integer (see [3]). In this paper, we study degenerate Euler zeta function which is holomorphic function on complex s-plane associated with degenerate Euler polynomials at negative integers.
New expressions are given for the Fourier expansions of non-holomorphic Eisenstein series with weight $k$. Among other applications, this leads to non-holomorphic analogs of formulas of Ramanujan, Grosswald and Berndt containing Eichler integrals of holomorphic Eisenstein series.
In this paper we provide a new series representation for the values of Riemann zeta function at integer arguments, namely: $ ζ(m)=\sum_{n=1}^{\infty}\frac{m(-1)^{n-1}Γ(1-ω_{m}n)...Γ(1-ω_{m}^{m-1}n)}{n!n^m}$, where $n$ is an integer that lager than $1$ and $ω$ is the $m$-th root of unity. This series converges quite fast. It's derived by some technique of infinite partial fraction decomposition. With this technique we also establish other useful formulas related to gamma function.
Let $\{\cdot\}$ denote the fractional part and $n \geq 1$ be a fixed integer. In this short note, we show for any prime $p$ the one-to-one correspondence $$\sum_{ν\geq 1} \left\{\frac{n}{p^ν}\right\} > 1 \quad \iff \quad p \mid \mathrm{denom}( B_n(x) - B_n ),$$ where $B_n(x) - B_n$ is the $n$th Bernoulli polynomial without constant term and $\mathrm{denom}(\cdot)$ is its denominator, which is squarefree.
We study analytic properties of multiple zeta-functions of generalized Hurwitz-Lerch type. First, as a special type of them, we consider multiple zeta-functions of generalized Euler-Zagier-Lerch type and investigate their analytic properties which were already announced in our previous paper. Next we give `desingularization' of multiple zeta-functions of generalized Hurwitz-Lerch type, which include those of generalized Euler-Zagier-Lerch type, the Mordell-Tornheim type, and so on. As a result, the desingularized multiple zeta-function turns out to be an entire function and can be expressed as…
We study the values of the zeta-function of the root system of type $G_2$ at positive integer points. In our previous work we considered the case when all integers are even, but in the present paper we prove several theorems which include the situation when some of the integers are odd. The underlying reason why we may treat such cases including odd integers is also discussed.
Let $H_n$ be the $n$-th harmonic number and let $v_n$ be its denominator. It is well known that $v_n$ is even for every integer $n\ge 2$. In this paper, we study the properties of $v_n$. One of our results is: the set of positive integers $n$ such that $v_n$ is divisible by the least common multiple of $1, 2, \cdots, \lfloor {n^{1/4}}\rfloor $ has density one. In particular, for any positive integer $m$, the set of positive integers $n$ such that $v_n$ is divisible by $m$ has density one.
Kaneko and Tsumura introduced a new kind of multiple zeta functions $η(k_1,\ldots,k_r;s_1,\ldots,s_r)$. This is an analytic function of complex variables $s_1,\ldots,s_r$, while $k_1,\ldots,k_r$ are non-positive integer parameters. In this paper, we first extend this function to an analytic function $η(s'_1,\ldots,s'_r;s_1,\ldots,s_r)$ of $2r$ complex variables. Then we investigate its special values at positive integers. In particular, we prove some linear relations among these $η$-values and the multiple zeta values $ζ(k_1,\ldots,k_r)$ of Euler-Zagier type.
It is commonly known that $ζ(2k) = q_{k}\frac{ζ(2k + 2)}{π^2}$ with known rational numbers $q_{k}$. In this work we construct recurrence relations of the form $\sum_{k = 1}^{\infty}r_{k}\frac{ζ(2k + 1)}{π^{2k}} = 0$ and show that series representations for the coefficients $r_{k} \in \mathbb{R}$ can be computed explicitly.
We give explicit expressions (or at least an algorithm of obtaining such expressions) of the coefficients of the Laurent series expansions of the Euler-Zagier multiple zeta-functions at any integer points. The main tools are the Mellin-Barnes integral formula and the harmonic product formulas. The Mellin-Barnes integral formula is used in the induction process on the number of variables, and the harmonic product formula is used to show that the Laurent series expansion outside the domain of convergence can be obtained from that inside the domain of convergence.
We prove that the integer part of the reciprocal of the tail of $ζ(s)$ at a rational number $s=\frac{1}{p}$ for any integer with $p \geq 5$ or $s=\frac{2}{p}$ for any odd integer with $p \geq 5$ can be described essentially as the integer part of an explicit quantity corresponding to it. To deal with the case when $s=\frac{2}{p},$ we use a result on the finiteness of integral points of certain curves over $\mathbb{Q}$.
Motivated by the study of integer partitions, we consider partitions of integers into fractions of a particular form, namely with constant denominators and distinct odd or even numerators. When numerators are odd, the numbers of partitions for integers smaller than the denominator form symmetric patterns. If the number of terms is restricted to $h$, then the nonzero terms of the generating function are unimodal, with the integer $h$ having the most partitions. Such properties can be applied to a particular class of nonlinear Diophantine equations. We also examine partitions with even numerator…
