We upgrade Howard's divisibility toward Perrin-Riou's Heegner point Main Conjecture to an equality under some mild conditions. We do this by exploiting Wei Zhang's proof of the Kolyvagin conjecture. The main ingredient is an improvement of Howard's Kolyvagin system formalism. As another consequence of it, we establish the equivalence between this main conjecture and the primitivity of the Kolyvagin system in certain cases, by also exploiting a explicit reciprocity law for Heegner points.
Kolyvagin used Heegner points to associate a system of cohomology classes to an elliptic curve over $\Q$ and conjectured that the system contains a non-trivial class. His conjecture has profound implications on the structure of Selmer groups. We provide new computational and theoretical evidence for Kolyvagin's conjecture. More precisely, we explicitly compute Heegner points over ring class fields and use these points to verify the conjecture for specific elliptic curves of rank two. We explain how Kolyvagin's conjecture implies that if the analytic rank of an elliptic curve is at least two th…
In this paper we prove an anticyclotomic Iwasawa main conjecture proposed by Perrin-Riou for Heegner points when the global sign is -1, using a recent work of the author on one divisibility of Iwasawa-Greenberg main conjecture for Rankin-Selberg p-adic L-functions. As a byproduct we also prove the equality for the above mentioned main conjecture under some local conditions.
Perrin-Riou has formulated a form of the Iwasawa main conjecture, which relates Heegner points to the Selmer group of an elliptic curve as one goes up the anticyclotomic Z_p extension of a quadratic imaginary field K. Building on the earlier work of Bertolini on this conjecture, and making use of the recent work of Mazur and Rubin on Kolyvagin's theory of Euler systems, we prove one divisibility of Perrin-Riou's conjectured equality. As a consequence, one obtains an upper bound on the rank of the Mordell-Weil group E(K) in terms of Heegner points.
The principal goal of this paper is to develop Kolyvagin's descent to apply with the big Heegner point Euler system constructed by Howard for the big Galois representation $\mathbb{T}$ attached to a Hida family $\mathbb{F}$ of elliptic modular forms. In order to achieve this, we interpolate and control the Tamagawa factors attached to each member of the family $\mathbb{F}$ at bad primes, which should be of independent interest. Using this, we then work out the Kolyvagin descent on the big Heegner point Euler system so as to obtain a big Kolyvagin system that interpolates the collection of Koly…
Iwasawa theory of Heegner points on abelian varieties of GL_2 type has been studied by, among others, Mazur, Perrin-Riou, Bertolini and Howard. The purpose of this paper is to describe extensions of some of their results in which abelian varieties are replaced by the Galois cohomology of Deligne's p-adic representation attached to a modular form of even weight >2. In this setting, the role of Heegner points is played by higher-dimensional Heegner-type cycles that have been recently defined by Bertolini, Darmon and Prasanna. Our results should be compared with those obtained, via deformation-th…
We upgrade Howard's divisibility towards Perrin-Riou's Heegner point main conjecture to the predicted equality. Contrary to previous works in this direction, our main result allows for the classical Heegner hypothesis and non-squarefree conductors. The main ingredients we exploit are W.~Zhang's proof of Kolyvagin's conjecture, Kolyvagin's structure theorem for Shafarevich--Tate groups, and the explicit reciprocity law for Heegner points.
We use an Euler system of Heegner cycles to bound the Selmer group associated to a modular form of higher even weight twisted by a ring class character. This is an extension of Nekovar's result that uses Bertolini and Darmon's refinement of Kolyvagin's ideas.
Let $E/\mathbb{Q}$ be an elliptic curve and let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field. Under a certain Heegner hypothesis, Kolyvagin constructed cohomology classes for $E$ using $K$-CM points and conjectured they did not all vanish. Conditional on this conjecture, he described the Selmer rank of $E$ using his system of classes. We extend work of Wei Zhang to prove new cases of Kolyvagin's conjecture by considering congruences of modular forms modulo large powers of $p $. Additionally, we prove an analogous result, and give a description of the Selmer rank, in a complementary "definite" case (usi…
We improve Kolyvagin's upper bound on the order of the $p$-primary part of the Shafarevich-Tate group of an elliptic curve of rank one over a quadratic imaginary field. In many cases, our bound is precisely the one predicted by the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjectural formula.
Let $E$ be an elliptic curve defined over ${\bf Q}$ and $K$ an imaginary quadratic field satisfying the Heegner hypothesis. A classical result of Kolyvagin states that, under suitable assumptions, if the basic Heegner point $y_K \in E(K)$ is not divisible by an odd prime $p$, then the groups $E(K)/{\bf Z} y_K$ and $\sha(E/K)$ are finite and their orders are prime to $p$. In this article we develop the following themes: firstly, we discuss improvements of Kolyvagin's result, following Cha (2005) and Lawson and Wuthrich (2016). Secondly, we prove an abstract Iwasawa-theoretical result which allo…
We extend the $p$-adic Gross-Zagier formula of Bertolini, Darmon, and Prasanna to the semistable non-crystalline setting, and combine it with our previous work to obtain a derivative formula for the specializations of Howard's big Heegner points at exceptional primes in the Hida family.
Let $E/\mathbb{Q}$ be an elliptic curve having multiplicative reduction at a prime $p$. Let $(g,h)$ be a pair of eigenforms of weight $1$ arising as the theta series of an imaginary quadratic field $K$, and assume that the triple-product $L$-function $L(f,g,h,s)$ is self-dual and does not vanish at the central critical point $s=1$. The main result of this article is a formula expressing the $p$-adic iterated integrals introduced in [DLR] to the Kolyvagin classes associated by Bertolini and Darmon to a system of Heegner points on $E$.
We prove new equidistribution results for Galois orbits of Heegner points with respect to reduction maps at inert primes. The arguments are based on two different techniques: primitive representations of integers by quadratic forms and distribution relations for Heegner points. Our results generalize one of the equidistribution theorems established by Cornut and Vatsal in the sense that we allow both the fundamental discriminant and the conductor to grow. Moreover, for fixed fundamental discriminant and variable conductor, we deduce an effective surjectivity theorem for the reduction map from …
For certain elliptic curves $E$ over $\mathbb{Q}$ with multiplicative reduction at a prime $p\geq 5$, we prove the $p$-indivisibility of the derived Heegner classes defined with respect to an imaginary quadratic field $K$, as conjectured by Kolyvagin. The conditions on $E$ include that $E[p]$ be irreducible and not finite at $p$ and that $p$ split in the imaginary quadratic field $K$, along with certain $p$-indivisibility conditions on various Tamagawa factors. The proof extends the arguments of the second author for the case where $E$ has good ordinary reduction at~$p$.
In this paper we propose and prove an anticyclotomic Iwasawa main conjecture for Heegner points on supersingular elliptic curves with $a_p=0$. The result has a "$\pm$" nature in the sense of Kobayashi. The proof uses a recent work of the second author on one divisibility in the Iwasawa--Greenberg main conjecture for Rankin-Selberg $p$-adic $L$-functions, together with an argument of Howard (adapted to our "$\pm$"-situation). As a byproduct, we also obtain an improvement of Skinner's result on a converse to the Gross--Zagier--Kolyvagin theorem.
In \cite{LV}, Howard's construction of big Heegner points on modular curves was extended to general Shimura curves over the rationals. In this paper, we relate the higher weight specializations of the big Heegner points of \emph{loc.cit.} in the definite setting to certain higher weight analogues of the Bertolini-Darmon theta elements. As a consequence of this relation, some of the conjectures formulated in \cite{LV} are deduced from recent results of Chida-Hsieh.
In this paper, we prove an "explicit reciprocity law" relating Howard's system of big Heegner points to a two-variable $p$-adic $L$-function (constructed here) interpolating the $p$-adic Rankin $L$-series of Bertolini-Darmon-Prasanna in Hida families. As applications, we obtain a direct relation between classical Heegner cycles and the higher weight specializations of big Heegner points, refining earlier work of the author, and prove the vanishing of Selmer groups of CM elliptic curves twisted by 2-dimensional Artin representations in cases predicted by the equivariant Birch and Swinnerton-Dye…
We consider the Kolyvagin cohomology classes associated to an elliptic curve $E$ defined over $\mathbb{Q}$ from a computational point of view. We explain how to go from a model of a class as an element of $(E(L)/pE(L))^{\mathrm{Gal}(L/\mathbb{Q})}$, where $p$ is prime and $L$ is a dihedral extension of $\mathbb{Q}$ of degree $2p$, to a geometric model as a genus one curve embedded in $\mathbb{P}^{p-1}$. We adapt the existing methods to compute Heegner points to our situation, and explicitly compute them as elements of $E(L)$. Finally, we compute explicit equations for several genus one curves …
We give a new proof of Howard's $Λ$-adic Gross-Zagier formula, which we extend to the context of indefinite Shimura curves over $\mathbf{Q}$ attached to nonsplit quaternion algebras. This formula relates the cyclotomic derivative of a two-variable $p$-adic $L$-function restricted to the anticyclotomic line to the cyclotomic $p$-adic heights of Heegner points over the anticyclotomic tower, and our proof, rather than inspired by the original approaches of Gross-Zagier and Perrin-Riou, is via Iwasawa theory, based on the connection between Heegner points, Beilinson-Flach elements, and their expli…
Let $E/\mathbf{Q}$ be an elliptic curve of conductor $N$, let $p>3$ be a prime where $E$ has good ordinary reduction, and let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field satisfying the Heegner hypothesis. In 1987, Perrin-Riou formulated an Iwasawa main conjecture for the Tate-Shafarevich group of $E$ over the anticyclotomic $\mathbf{Z}_p$-extension of $K$ in terms of Heegner points. In this paper, we give a proof of Perrin-Riou's conjecture under mild hypotheses. Our proof builds on Howard's theory of bipartite Euler systems and Wei Zhang's work on Kolyvagin's conjecture. In the case when $p$ splits i…
In this paper, we deduce the vanishing of Selmer groups for the Rankin-Selberg convolution of a cusp form with a theta series of higher weight from the nonvanishing of the associated $L$-value, thus establishing the rank 0 case of the Bloch-Kato conjecture in these cases. Our methods are based on the connection between Heegner cycles and $p$-adic $L$-functions, building upon recent work of Bertolini, Darmon and Prasanna, and on an extension of Kolyvagin's method of Euler systems to the anticyclotomic setting. In the course of the proof, we also obtain a higher weight analogue of Mazur's conjec…
Our first goal in this note is to explain that a weak form of Perrin-Riou's conjecture on the non-triviality of Beilinson-Kato classes follows as an easy consequence of the Iwasawa main conjectures, and deduce its refined versions in the supersingular case from this fact and a variety of Gross-Zagier formulae. Our second goal is to set up a conceptual framework in the context of $Λ$-adic Kolyvagin systems to treat analogues of Perrin-Riou's conjectures for higher motives of higher rank. We apply this general discussion in order to establish a link between Heegner points on a general class of C…
Iwasawa theory of Heegner points on abelian varieties of GL_2 type has been studied by, among others, Mazur, Perrin-Riou, Bertolini and Howard. The purpose of this paper, the first in a series of two, is to describe extensions of some of their results in which abelian varieties are replaced by the Galois cohomology of Deligne's p-adic representation attached to a modular form f of even weight >2. In this more general setting, the role of Heegner points is played by higher-dimensional Heegner cycles in the sense of Nekovář. In particular, we prove that the Pontryagin dual of a certain Bloch-Kat…
We relate $p$-adic families of Jacobi forms to Big Heegner points constructed by B. Howard, in the spirit of the Gross-Kohnen-Zagier theorem. We view this as a GL(2) instance of a $p$-adic Kudla program.
Let $E$ be an elliptic curve over $\mathbb Q$ and let $p\geq5$ be a prime of good supersingular reduction for $E$. Let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field satisfying a modified "Heegner hypothesis" in which $p$ splits, write $K_\infty$ for the anticyclotomic $\mathbb Z_p$-extension of $K$ and let $Λ$ denote the Iwasawa algebra of $K_\infty/K$. By extending to the supersingular case the $Λ$-adic Kolyvagin method originally developed by Bertolini in the ordinary setting, we prove that Kobayashi's plus/minus $p$-primary Selmer groups of $E$ over $K_\infty$ have corank $1$ over $Λ$. As an applicat…
Given a newform f, we extend Howard's results on the variation of Heegner points in the Hida family of f to a general quaternionic setting. More precisely, we build big Heegner points and big Heegner classes in terms of compatible families of Heegner points on towers of Shimura curves. The novelty of our approach, which systematically exploits the theory of optimal embeddings, consists in treating both the case of definite quaternion algebras and the case of indefinite quaternion algebras in a uniform way. We prove results on the size of Nekovář's extended Selmer groups attached to suitable bi…
In 1987, B. Perrin-Riou formulated a Heegner point main conjecture for elliptic curves at primes of ordinary reduction. In this paper, we formulate an analogue of Perrin-Riou's main conjecture for supersingular primes. We then prove this conjecture under mild hypotheses, and deduce from this result a $Λ$-adic extension of Kobayashi's $p$-adic Gross-Zagier formula, new cases of B.-D. Kim's doubly-signed main conjectures, and a strengthened version of Skinner's converse to the Gross-Zagier-Kolyvagin theorem for supersingular primes.
Assuming specific instances of two general conjectures in arithmetic algebraic geometry (bijectivity of $p$-adic regulator maps, injectivity of $p$-adic Abel-Jacobi maps), we prove several cases of the $p$-part of the Tamagawa number conjecture ($p$-TNC) of Bloch-Kato and Fontaine-Perrin-Riou for (homological) motives of modular forms of even weight $\geq4$ in analytic rank $1$. More precisely, we prove our results for a large class of newforms $f$ and prime numbers $p$ that are ordinary for $f$ and such that the weight of $f$ is congruent to $2$ modulo $2(p-1)$. Inspired by work of W. Zhang i…
Let $E/\mathbb{Q}$ be an elliptic curve with ordinary reduction at a prime $p$, and let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field. The anticyclotomic Iwasawa main conjecture, depending upon the sign of the functional equation of $L(E/K,s)$, predicts the behavior of Selmer group of $E/\mathbb{Q}$ along the anticyclotomic tower of $K$. Some of the crucial ideas of Bertolini and Darmon on this conjecture have been abstracted by Howard into an axiomatic set-up through a notion of Bipartite Euler systems, assuming that $E[p]$ is an irreducible representation of $G_{K}$. We generalize this work by assumin…
We prove a general formula for the $p$-adic heights of Heegner points on modular abelian varieties with potentially ordinary (good or semistable) reduction at the primes above $p$. The formula is in terms of the cyclotomic derivative of a Rankin-Selberg $p$-adic $L$-function, which we construct. It generalises previous work of Perrin-Riou, Howard, and the author, to the context of the work of Yuan-Zhang-Zhang on the archimedean Gross-Zagier formula and of Waldspurger on toric periods. We further construct analytic functions interpolating Heegner points in the anticyclotomic variables, and obta…
