Let $B^p_σ$, $1\le p<\infty$, $σ>0$, denote the space of all $f\in L^p(\mathbb{R})$ such that the Fourier transform of $f$ (in the sense of distributions) vanishes outside $[-σ,σ]$. The classical sampling theorem states that each $f\in B^p_σ$ may be reconstructed exactly from its sample values at equispaced sampling points $\{πm/σ\}_{m\in\mathbb{Z}} $ spaced by $π/σ$. Reconstruction is also possible from sample values at sampling points $\{πθm/σ\}_m $ with certain $1< θ\le 2$ if we know $f(θπm/σ) $ and $f'(θπm/σ)$, $m\in\mathbb{Z}$. In this paper we present sampling series for functions of several variables. These series involves samples of functions and their partial derivatives.
We study the problem of sampling with derivatives in shift-invariant spaces generated by totally-positive functions of Gaussian type or by the hyperbolic secant. We provide sharp conditions in terms of weighted Beurling densities. As a by-product we derive new results about multi-window Gabor frames with respect to vectors of Hermite functions or totally positive functions.
We comment on a Mazur problem from "Scottish Book" concerning second partial derivatives. It is proved that, if a function $f(x,y)$ of real variables defined on a rectangle has continuous derivative with respect to $y$ and for almost all $y$ the function $\,F_y(x):=f'_y(x,y)$ has finite variation, then almost everywhere on the rectangle there exists the partial derivative $f"_{yx}$. We construct a separately twice differentiable function, whose partial derivative $f'_x$ is discontinuous with respect to the second variable on a set of positive measure. This solves in the negative the Mazur prob…
The differentiability of the one parameter family of Okomoto's functions as functions of $x$ has been analyzed extensively since their introduction in 2005. As an analogue to a similar investigation, in this paper, we consider the partial derivative of Okomoto's functions with respect to the parameter $a$. We place a significant focus on $a = 1/3$ to describe the properties of a nowhere differentiable function $K(x)$ for which the set of points of infinite derivative produces an example of a measure zero set with Hausdorff dimension $1$.
We consider a specific scheme of multivariate Birkhoff polynomial interpolation. Our samples are derivatives of various orders $k_j$ at fixed points $v_j$ along fixed straight lines through $v_j$ in directions $u_j$, under the following assumption: the total number of sampled derivatives of order $k, \ k=0,1,\ldots$ is equal to the dimension of the space homogeneous polynomials of degree $k$. We show that this scheme is regular for general directions. Specifically this scheme is regular independent of the position of the interpolation nodes. In the planar case, we show that this scheme is regu…
We first prove some weighted inequalities for compositions of functions on time scales which are in turn applied to establish some new dynamic Opial-type inequalities in several variables. Some generalizations and applications to partial differential dynamic equations are also considered.
The parameter derivatives $[\partial^{2}P_ν(z)/\partialν^{2}]_{ν=0}$ and $[\partial^{3}P_ν(z)/\partialν^{3}]_{ν=0}$, where $P_ν(z)$ is the Legendre function of the first kind
We provide closed-form expressions for the degree-derivatives $[\partial^{2}P_ν(z)/\partialν^{2}]_{ν=n}$ and $[\partial Q_ν(z)/\partialν]_{ν=n}$, with $z\in\mathbb{C}$ and $n\in\mathbb{N}_{0}$, where $P_ν(z)$ and $Q_ν(z)$ are the Legendre functions of the first and the second kind, respectively. For $[\partial^{2}P_ν(z)/\partialν^{2}]_{ν=n}$, we find that $$\displaystyle\frac{\partial^{2}P_ν(z)}{\partialν^{2}}\bigg|_{ν=n}=-2P_{n}(z)\textrm{Li}_{2}\frac{1-z}{2}+B_{n}(z)\ln\frac{z+1}{2}+C_{n}(z),$$ where $\textrm{Li}_{2}[(1-z)/2]$ is the dilogarithm function, $P_{n}(z)$ is the Legendre polynomia…
On parameter derivatives of the associated Legendre function of the first kind (with applications to the construction of the associated Legendre function of the second kind of integer degree and order)
Using the six parameters truncated Mittag-Leffler function, we introduce a convenient truncated function to define the so-called truncated $\mathcal{V}$-fractional derivative type. After a discussion involving some properties associated with this derivative, we propose the derivative of a vector valued function and define the $\mathcal{V}$-fractional Jacobian matrix whose properties allow us to say that: the multivariable truncated $\mathcal{V}$-fractional derivative type, as proposed here, generalizes the truncated $\mathcal{V}$-fractional derivative type and can bee extended to obtain a trun…
In this paper, we consider a $L^\infty$ functional derivative estimate for the first spatial derivative of bounded classical solutions $u:\mathbb{R}\times [0,T]\to\mathbb{R}$ to the Cauchy problem for scalar semi-linear parabolic partial differential equations with a continuous nonlinearity $f:\mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}$ and initial data $u_0:\mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}$, of the form, \[ \sup_{x\in\mathbb{R}}|u_x (x , t)| \leq \mathcal{F}_t (f,u_0,u) \ \ \ \forall t\in [0,T] . \] Here $\mathcal{F}_t:\mathcal{A}_t\to\mathbb{R}$ is a functional as defined in \textsection 1. We establish that the functi…
