The primary goal of this paper is to describe the diffraction production using the model that takes into account the Pomeron interaction, and satisfies both $t$ and $s$ channel unitarity. We hope that these features will allow us to describe the diffraction production in a more convenient way than in CGC motivated models, that do not satisfy these unitarity constraints. Unfortunately, we show that both approaches are only able to describe half of the cross section for the single diffraction production, leaving the second half to be estimate of the large mass production in the Pomeron approach. The impact parameter dependance of the scattering amplitudes show that soft interactions at high energies measured at the LHC, have a much richer structure than presumed. We discuss the $t$-dependence of the elastic cross section in wide range of $|t|=0 ÷1 \,GeV^2 $. We show that in the kinemati region of the minimum, we cannot use approximate formulae to calculate the real part of the amplitude. The exact calculation in our model, shows that the real part is rather small, and it is necessary to include the Odderon contribution in order to describe the experimental data.
We update the earlier work of Refs. arXiv:1703.08562 and arXiv:1712.07147 on parton distribution functions in the full Standard Model to include gauge boson polarization, non-zero input electroweak boson PDFs and next-to-leading-order resummation of large logarithms.
We compute the leading-order evolution of parton distribution functions for all the Standard Model fermions and bosons up to energy scales far above the electroweak scale, where electroweak symmetry is restored. Our results include the 52 PDFs of the unpolarized proton, evolving according to the SU(3), SU(2), U(1), mixed SU(2) x U(1) and Yukawa interactions. We illustrate the numerical effects on parton distributions at large energies, and show that this can lead to important corrections to parton luminosities at a future 100 TeV collider.
We discuss a few examples of rich newly developing field of double parton scattering. We start our presentation from production of two pairs of charm quark-antiquark and argue that it is the golden reaction to study the double parton scattering effects. In addition to the DPS we consider briefly also mechanism of single parton scattering and show that it gives much smaller contribution to the $c \bar c c \bar c$ final state. Next we discuss a perturbative parton-splitting mechanism which should be included in addition to the conventional DPS mechanism. We show that the presence of this mechani…
Soft QCD contributes to all observables at the LHC, due to the presences of underlying event (UE) and pile-up in all events. Both these processes are dominated by multi-parton interactions (MPI), i.e. the result of proton collisions containing more than one partonic interaction due to collective and beam remnant effects. While there is undoubtedly interesting physics involved in MPI, the primary interest of LHC experiments is to characterise and model the behaviour of UE and pile-up sufficiently well that their influence may be cleanly subtracted in the process of searching for new physics sig…
The quantum statistical parton distributions approach proposed more than one decade ago is revisited by considering a larger set of recent and accurate Deep Inelastic Scattering experimental results. It enables us to improve the description of the data by means of a new determination of the parton distributions. This global next-to-leading order QCD analysis leads to a good description of several structure functions, involving unpolarized parton distributions and helicity distributions, in a broad range of $x$ and $Q^2$ and in terms of a rather small number of free parameters. There are severa…
We compute the leading-order evolution of parton fragmentation functions for all the Standard Model fermions and bosons up to energies far above the electroweak scale, where electroweak symmetry is restored. We discuss the difference between double-logarithmic and leading-logarithmic resummation, and show how the latter can be implemented through a scale choice in the SU(2) coupling. We present results for a wide range of partonic center-of-mass energies, including the polarization of fermion and vector boson fragmentation functions induced by electroweak evolution.
We study the production of bottom quarks in $pp$ collisions at Large Hadron Collider energies using previously developed parton cascade model to explore the impact of Landau Pomeranchuk Midgal (LPM) effect on their dynamics. In contrast to the case for charm quarks reported recently, we find only a marginal impact of the suppression of multiple scatterings of partons due to the LPM effect on their production. It is felt that this happens as they are only produced in very hard collisions.
We study associated production of prompt photon and two jets at high energies in the framework of the parton Reggeization approach, which is based on multi-Regge factorization of hard processes and Lipatov's effective theory of Reggeized gluons and quarks. In this approach, initial-state off-shell effects and transverse momenta of initial partons are included in a gauge-invariant way. We compute azimuthal angle difference spectra in $γ+ 2 jets$ events and compare results with data from D0 Collaboration at the Tevatron. It was found that agreement between predictions and data can be achieved on…
We introduce a method for the separation of soft and collinear logarithms in QCD parton evolution at $\mathcal{O}(α_s^2)$ and at leading color. Using an implementation of the technique in the Dire parton shower, we analyze the numerical impact of genuine triple-collinear corrections from quark pair emission in $e^+e^-\to$ hadrons.
Hadrons interaction at high energies is carried out by one color gluon exchange. All quarks and gluons contained in colliding hadrons take part in interaction and production of particles. The contribution of multiple parton interactions is negligible. Multiple hadrons production at high energies occurs only in three types of processes. The first process is hadrons production in gluon string, the second is hadrons production in two quark strings and the third is hadrons production in three quark strings. In proton-proton interaction production of only gluon string and two quark strings is possi…
We analyse the multiplicity distributions of charged particles at Tevatron (p\bar p) and LHC (pp) energies in the framework of the independent pair parton interactions (IPPI) model. It is shown that the number of soft pair parton interactions (and therefore the density of the partonic medium) is large and increases with energy. The mean multiplicity at each parton interaction grows also with energy. This growth depends on the width of the rapidity window. The similar conclusions are obtained in the multiladder exchange model (QGSM).
We propose a new parton model and demonstrate that the model describes the relevant experimental data at high energies. The model is based on Pomeron calculus in 1+1 space-time dimensions, as suggested in Ref. [18] and on simple assumptions regarding the hadron structure, related to the impact parameter dependence of the scattering amplitude. This parton model evolves from QCD, assuming that the unknown non-perturbative corrections lead to fixing size of the interacting dipoles. The advantage of this approach is that it satisfies both t-channel and s-channel unitarity, and can be used for summ…
Giovannini's parton branching equation is integrated numerically using the 4th-order Runge-Kutta method. Using a simple hadronisation model, a charged-hadron multiplicity distribution is obtained. This model is then fitted to various experimental data up to the TeV scale to study how the Giovannini parameters vary with collision energy and type. The model is able to describe hadronic collisions up to the TeV scale and reveals the emergence of gluonic activity as the centre-of-mass energy increases. A prediction is made for $\sqrt{s}$ = 14 TeV.
We describe the architecture and functionalities of a C++ software framework, coined PARTONS, dedicated to the phenomenology of Generalized Parton Distributions. These distributions describe the three-dimensional structure of hadrons in terms of quarks and gluons, and can be accessed in deeply exclusive lepto- or photo-production of mesons or photons. PARTONS provides a necessary bridge between models of Generalized Parton Distributions and experimental data collected in various exclusive production channels. We outline the specification of the PARTONS framework in terms of practical needs, ph…
We study the gluon parton densities [parton distribution functions (PDFs), transverse momentum distributions (TMDs), generalized parton distributions (GPDs)] and form factors in soft-wall AdS/QCD. We show that the power behavior of gluon parton distributions and form factors at large values of the light-cone variable and large values of square momentum is consistent with quark counting rules. We also show that the transverse momentum distributions derived in our approach obey the model-independent Mulders-Rodrigues inequalities without referring to specific model parameters. All gluon parton d…
We discuss how the main features of high-energy `soft' and `semihard' pp collisions may be described in terms of parton cascades and multi-Pomeron exchange. The interaction between Pomerons produces an effective infrared cutoff, k_sat, by the absorption of low k_t partons. This provides the possibility of extending the parton approach, used for `hard' processes, to also describe high-energy soft and semihard interactions. We outline a model which incorporates these features. Finally, we discuss what the most recent LHC measurements in the soft domain imply for the model.
We introduce an efficient general method for calculating the self-energies, collective modes, and dispersion relations of quarks and gluons in a momentum-anisotropic high-temperature quark-gluon plasma. The method introduced is applicable to the most general classes of deformed anisotropic momentum distributions and the resulting self-energies are expressed in terms of a series of hypergeometric basis functions which are valid in the entire complex phase-velocity plane. Comparing to direct numerical integration of the self-energies, the proposed method is orders of magnitude faster and provide…
We study the transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distributions in the newly proposed quasi-parton distribution function framework in Euclidean space. A soft factor subtraction is found to be essential to make the TMDs calculable on lattice. We show that the quasi-TMDs with the associated soft factor subtraction can be applied in hard QCD scattering processes such as Drell-Yan lepton pair production in hadronic collisions. This allows future lattice calculations to provide information on the non-perturbative inputs and energy evolutions for the TMDs. Extension to the generalized parton d…
A generic expression to compute triple parton scattering (TPS) cross sections in high-energy proton-nucleus (pA) collisions is derived as a function of the corresponding single-parton cross sections and an effective parameter encoding the transverse parton profile of the proton. The TPS cross sections are enhanced by a factor of $9\,A\approx 2000$ in pPb compared to those in proton-nucleon collisions at the same center-of-mass energy. Estimates for triple charm ($c\overline{c}$) and bottom ($b\overline{b}$) production in pPb collisions at LHC and FCC energies are presented based on next-to-nex…
We show at NNLO that the soft factors for double parton scattering (DPS) for both integrated and unintegrated kinematics, can be presented entirely in the terms of the soft factor for single Drell-Yan process, i.e. the transverse momentum dependent (TMD) soft factor. Using the linearity of the logarithm of TMD soft factor in rapidity divergences, we decompose the DPS soft factor matrices into a product of matrices with rapidity divergences in given sectors, and thus, define individual double parton distributions at NNLO. The rapidity anomalous dimension matrices for double parton distributions…
Holographic soft-wall model is successful in the phenomenology of hadrons. Here with the use of generalized parton distributions (GPDs) obtained from AdS/QCD, perturbative effects are entered into the formalism. Perturbations are incorporated in the formalism through the evolution of GPDs according to the DGLAP like equations. Evolved proton GPDs are compared with a phenomenological model to show that we can get good improvements of the holographic model. It seems that combining the holographic soft-wall model with perturbative effects to some extent, gives the correct physics of GPDs.
The description of the Drell-Yan (DY) transverse momentum spectrum requires matching of fixed order QCD calculations with soft gluon resummation up to all orders in the QCD coupling. It has been noticed in the literature that a consistent description of DY data in a wide kinematic regime from fixed-target to LHC energies is problematic. In this talk the predictions for transverse momentum spectrum of DY data coming from experiments in very different kinematic ranges (NuSea, R209, Phenix, LHC 8 TeV and 13 TeV center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}$) are calculated by applying transverse momentum dep…
The dynamics of partons, hadrons and strings in relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions is analyzed within the novel Parton-Hadron-String Dynamics (PHSD) transport approach, which is applied to Pb+Pb collisions from 20 to 160 A GeV in order to explore the space-time regions of 'partonic matter'. We find that even central collisions at the top-SPS energy of 158 A GeV show a large fraction of non-partonic, i.e. hadronic or string-like matter, which can be viewed as a hadronic corona. Furthermore, we observe that the partonic phase has a very low impact on rapidity distributions of hadrons but a …
The observation of an anomalous jpsi suppression in nucleus-nucleus collisions is one of the most important results of the SPS heavy-ion program. An essential ingredient in this result is the determination, obtained by studying p-A collisions, of effects not related with the formation of a deconfined medium. These effects are extrapolated to A-A collisions, determining a reference jpsi yield that is then compared with the measurements. In this article we investigate the role of parton shadowing on the determination of such a reference, and we calculate its effect for In-In and Pb-Pb collisions…
At the LHC energies, the underlying observables are of major topic of interest in high multiplicity $p+p$ collisions. Multiple Parton Interactions (MPI) is one of them, in which several interactions occur in a single $p+p$ collision. It is believed that MPI is the main reason behind the high multiplicity in $p+p$ collisions at the LHC. It was believed that MPI has only effect to the soft particle production, but recent ALICE result reveals that it can also affect the hard-particle production. In such case, the self normalized yield of heavy particle like $\rm J/ψ$ shows an increasing trend wit…
The novel Parton-Hadron-String Dynamics (PHSD) transport approach is applied to nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC energies with respect to differential hadronic spectra in comparison to available data. The PHSD approach is based on a dynamical quasiparticle model for partons (DQPM) matched to reproduce recent lattice-QCD results from the Wuppertal-Budapest group in thermodynamic equilibrium. The transition from partonic to hadronic degrees of freedom is described by covariant transition rates for the fusion of quark-antiquark pairs or three quarks (antiquarks), respectively, obeying flavor cu…
An energetic parton travelling through a quark-gluon plasma loses energy via occasional hard scatterings and frequent softer interactions. Whether or not these interactions admit a perturbative description, the effect of the soft interactions can be factorized and encoded in a small number of transport coefficients. In this work, we present a hard-soft factorized parton energy loss model which combines a stochastic description of soft interactions and rate-based modelling of hard scatterings. We introduce a scale to estimate the regime of validity of the stochastic description, allowing for a …
Infrared divergences of QCD scattering amplitudes can be derived from an anomalous dimension matrix, which is also an essential ingredient for the resummation of large logarithms due to soft gluon emissions. We report a recent analytical calculation of the anomalous dimension matrix with both massless and massive partons at two-loop level, which describes the two-loop infrared singularities of any scattering amplitudes with an arbitrary number of massless and massive partons, and also enables soft gluon resummation at next-to-next-to-leading-logarithmic order. As an application, we calculate t…
The theoretical description of Drell-Yan (DY) transverse momentum spectra over wide kinematic regions in energy, mass and transverse momentum requires not only fixed-order perturbative QCD calculations but also soft-gluon QCD resummations to all orders of perturbation theory. The latter are traditionally accomplished either by Parton Showers (PS) with Monte Carlo event generators or by (different versions of) analytical procedures. In this work we focus on issues involved in the matching of the fixed-order calculation and resummation, especially in the moderate to low mass and $p_{\bot}$ regio…
We determine the valence parton distribution function of the pion by performing a new analysis of data for the Drell-Yan process $π^- N\to μ^+μ^-X$. Compared to previous analyses, we include next-to-leading-logarithmic threshold resummation effects in the calculation of the Drell-Yan cross section. As a result of these, we find a considerably softer valence distribution at high momentum fractions $x$ than obtained in previous next-to-leading order analyses, in line with expectations based on perturbative-QCD counting rules or Dyson-Schwinger equations.
We present a numerical analysis of helicity independent nucleon generalized parton distributions (GPDs) using the known formalism based on inclusion of higher Fock states in the soft-wall approach of the anti-de Sitter/QCD model. We calculate the momentum space GPDs by matching the electromagnetic form factors in the AdS model to the sum rules in QCD. We investigate their Mellin moments, transverse impact parameter GPDs, transverse mean square radius, and transverse width. We further extend this work to investigate the charge and anomalous magnetization densities for both unpolarized and trans…
Double parton distribution functions (dPDFs), entering the double parton scattering (DPS) cross section, are unknown fundamental quantities encoding new interesting properties of hadrons. Here, the pion dPDFs are investigated within different holographic QCD quark models in order to access their basic features. Results of the calculation,s obtained within the AdS/QCD soft-wall approach, have been compared with predictions of lattice QCD evaluations of the pion two-current correlation functions. The present analysis confirms that double parton correlations, affecting dPDFs, are very important a…
