In this work we will introduce the A-V-A formulation based iterative algorithm method (IAM) for simulating the magnetization current of high temperature superconductors. This new method embedded in ANSYS can simulate the critical state model by forcing the trapped current density to the critical current density Jc for all meshed superconducting elements after each iterative load step, as well as simulate the flux creep model by updating the E-J power law based resistivity values. The simulation results of a disk-shaped ReBCO bulk during zero field cooling (ZFC) or field cooling (FC) magnetization agree well with the simulation results from using the H-formulation in COMSOL. The computation time is shortened by using the A-V formulation in superconductor areas and the A-formulation in non-superconductor areas. This iterative method is further proved friendly for adding ferromagnetic materials into the FEA model or taking into account the magnetic field-dependent or mechanical strain-related critical current density of the superconductors. The influence factors for the magnetization simulation, including the specified iterative load steps, the initial resistivity, the ramping time and the updating coefficient, are discussed in detail. The A-V-A formulation based IAM, implemented in ANSYS, shows its unique advantages in adjustable computation time, multi-frame restart analysis and easy-convergence.
Flux-creep data was obtained for fields along the second magnetization peak observed in M(H) curves of BaFe{1.9}Ni{0.1}As2 for H||c-axis. H||ab-planes and H forming a 45 degrees angle with ab-planes. The M-H loops from the different field directions can be collapsed onto a universal curve with a scaling factor equivalent to the superconducting anisotropy, showing that the pinning is three dimensional, although with remarkable differences in the vortex-dynamics as a function of field orientation. The resulting relaxation rate, R, when plotted as a function of field and temperature does not show…
We report the temperature, magnetic field and time dependences of magnetization in advanced Ba122 superconducting tapes. The sample exhibits a peculiar vortex creep behavior. Below 10 K, the normalized magnetization relaxation rate S=dln(-M)/dln(t) shows a temperature insensitive plateau with a value comparable to that of the low temperature superconductors, which can be explained within the framework of the collective creep theory. It then enters into a second collective creep regime when the temperature increases. Interestingly, the relaxation rate below 20 K tends to saturate with the incre…
In type-II superconductors exposed to magnetic fields between upper and lower critical values, $H_{c1}$ and $H_{c2}$, penetrating magnetic flux forms a lattice of vortices whose motion can induce dissipation. Consequently, the magnetization $M$ of superconductors is typically progressively weakened with increasing magnetic field $B \propto n_v$ (for vortex density $n_v$). However, some materials exhibit a non-monotonic $M(B)$, presenting a maximum in $M$ at what is known as the second magnetization peak. This phenomenon appears in most classes of superconductors, including low $T_c$ materials,…
We study the vortex dynamics in high-quality FeTe$_{0.6}$Se$_{0.4}$ single crystal by performing magnetization measurements of the screening current density \emph{J}$_s$ and flux creep rate \emph{S}. Temperature dependence of \emph{S} shows a plateau in the intermediate temperature region with a high creep rate $\sim$ 0.03, which is interpreted in the framework of the collective creep theory. A crossover from elastic to plastic creep is observed. The glassy exponent and barrier height for flux creep are directly determined by extended Maley's method. \emph{J}$_s$ with flux creep, obtained from…
We consider the flux jump instability of the Bean's critical state arising in the flux creep regime in type-II superconductors. We find the flux jump field, $B_j$, that determines the superconducting state stability criterion. We calculate the dependence of $B_j$ on the external magnetic field ramp rate, $\dot B_e$. We demonstrate that under the conditions typical for most of the magnetization experiments the slope of the current-voltage curve in the flux creep regime determines the stability of the Bean's critical state, {\it i.e.}, the value of $B_j$. We show that a flux jump can be preceded…
Numerical studies of the flux creep in superconductors show that the distribution of the magnetic field at any stage of the creep process can be well described by the condition of spatial constancy of the activation energy $U$ independently on the particular dependence of $U$ on the field B and current $j$. This results from a self-organization of the creep process in the undercritical state $j<j_{c}$ related to a strong non-linearity of the flux motion. Using the spatial constancy of $U$, one can find the field profiles $B(x)$, formulate a semi-analytical approach to the creep problem and gen…
The glassy dynamics is a consequence of the elastic properties of the vortex matter, and in principle may occur in any superconductor. However, whereas a large amount of experimental evidence confirms glassiness in high Tc superconductors (HTS), the applicability of the whole framework developed to describe vortex matter in HTS to other superconducting materials is unclear. In this framework, the particular creep behavior of MgB2, larger than creep of conventional superconductor materials but much lower than HTS one, had precluded a complete understanding of the vortex regimes in this material…
It is argued that the stress caused by vortex cores in the mixed state of superconductors may result in a field dependent contribution to the free energy and magnetization of measurable levels. For sufficiently strong stress dependence of the critical temperature, $\partial T_c/\partial p$, this contribution may result in the so-called "second peak" in the field dependence of the reversible magnetization, the effect often masked by vortex pinning and creep.
We present an extensive study of vortex dynamics in a high-quality single crystal of HgBa$_2$CuO$_{4+δ}$ (Hg1201), a highly anisotropic superconductor that is a model system for studying the effects of anisotropy. From magnetization $M$ measurements over a wide range of temperatures $T$ and fields $H$, we construct a detailed vortex phase diagram. We find that the temperature-dependent vortex penetration field $H_p(T)$, second magnetization peak $H_{smp}(T)$, and irreversibility field $H_{irr}(T)$ all decay exponentially at low temperatures and exhibit an abrupt change in behavior at high temp…
The surprisingly rapid relaxation of the sustainable current density in the critical state of single crystalline Ba$_{1-x}$K$_{x}$Fe$_{2}$As$_{2}$ is investigated for magnetic fields oriented parallel to the c-axis and to the $ab$--plane respectively. Due to the inadequacy of standard analysis procedures developed for flux creep in the high temperature superconducting cuprates, we develop a simple, straightforward data treatment technique that reveals the creep mechanism and the creep exponent $μ$. At low magnetic fields, below the second magnetization peak, $μ$ varies only slightly as functio…
A systematic study of I-V characteristic curves for RuSr2GdCu2O8 [Ru-(1212)] is presented, with magnetic fields up to 3 T and 5 K<T<30 K, in the region of the superconducting transition. The activation energy E_{a}(H,T) for flux line depinning was determined by fitting the nonlinear region of the curves using the flux creep model. E_{a}(H,T) was found to vary linearly with temperature, while a power-law dependence on the magnetic field was observed up to H=0.1 T, where an abrupt reduction in its decreasing rate occurs. The extrapolated value, E_{a}(0,0)=50 meV, is twice the reported value for …
An experimental study of low density captured magnetic flux dynamics in YBCO single crystal samples near the superconducting phase transition point has been performed. Vortex dynamics similar to thermally assisted flux flow regime (TAFF) has been observed for the first time in such weak fields. It will be shown that Zeldov's thermoactivated creep model successfully describes the behavior of the magnetization in the YBCO single crystals in our experiments. Within the framework of this model the estimation of normalized relaxation rate was made.
Competition between the modification of intrinsic superconducting properties and the pinning landscape under external pressure in CaKFe$_4$As$_4$ single crystals
Detailed measurements of the global and local electromagnetic properties of Ba(Fe$_{0.93}$Co$_{0.07}$)$_{2}$As$_{2}$ single crystals are reported. Analysis of the irreversible magnetic response provides strong evidence for similar vortex physics in this Fe-based pnictide superconductor to the high-$T_{c}$ cuprates, such as Y-Ba-Cu-O or Nd-Ce-Cu-O. In particular, we have found a nonmonotonic "fishtail" magnetization in $M(H,T=const)$ loops and its signature is also present in $M(H=const,T)$ scans. The supercurrent density is evaluated by using several techniques, including direct transport meas…
Magnetic relaxation measurements on a series of Y$_{1-x}$Pr$_{x}$Ba$_{2}$Cu$_{3}$O$_{7-δ}$ ($x = 0.13, 0.34, 0.47$) single crystals were performed over a large field and temperature range in order to investigate the characteristics of the vortex matter across the second magnetization peak (SMP). The magnitude of the SMP varies non-monotonically with the Pr concentration; i.e., the irreversible magnetization normalized by its value at the onset field $H_{on}$ displays a maximum for the $x = 0.34$ single crystal. The two characteristic fields, $H_{on}$ and $H_{sp}$, follow different temperature …
We investigated the vortex dynamics in the non-centrosymmetric superconductor Li_2Pt_3B in the temperature range 0.1 K - 2.8 K. Two different logarithmic creep regimes in the decay of the remanent magnetization from the Bean critical state have been observed. In the first regime, the creep rate is extraordinarily small, indicating the existence of a new, very effective pinning mechanism. At a certain time a vortex avalanche occurs that increases the logarithmic creep rate by a factor of about 5 to 10 depending on the temperature. This may indicate that certain barriers against flux motion are …
A series of high quality BaFe$_{2-x}$Ni$_x$As$_2$ pnictide superconductors were studied using magnetic relaxation and isothermal magnetic measurements in order to study the second magnetization peak (SMP) and critical current behaviour in Ni-doped 122 family. The temperature dependence of the magnetic relaxation rate suggests a pinning crossover, whereas, it's magnetic field dependence hints a vortex-lattice structural phase-transition. The activation energy ($U$) estimated using the magnetic relaxation data was analyzed in detail for slightly-underdoped, slightly-overdoped and an overdoped sa…
Order-disorder phase transition and elastic-to-plastic vortex creep crossover in a triclinic iron pnictide superconductor (Ca0.85La0.15)10(Pt3As8)(Fe2As2)5
We have studied the vortex dynamics in the PrFeAsO$_{0.60}$F$_{0.12}$ superconducting sample by dc magnetization and dynamic magnetization-relaxation rate $(Q)$ measurements. The field dependence of the superconducting irreversible magnetization $M_s$ reveals a second magnetization peak or fishtail effect. The large value of $Q$ is an indication of moderate vortex motion and relatively weak pinning energy. Data analysis based on the generalized inversion scheme suggests that the vortex dynamics can be described by the collective pinning model. The temperature dependence of the critical current…
Ac susceptibility and static magnetization measurements were performed in the optimally doped SmFeAsO$_{0.8}$F$_{0.2}$ superconductor. The field - temperature phase diagram of the superconducting state was drawn and, in particular, the features of the flux line lattice derived. The dependence of the intra-grain depinning energy on the magnetic field intensity was derived in the thermally-activated flux creep framework, enlightening a typical 1/H dependence in the high-field regime. The intra-grain critical current density was extrapolated in the zero temperature and zero magnetic field limit, …
We investigate the critical current density and vortex dynamics in single crystals of Ca(Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_{x}$)$_2$As$_2$ ($x$ = 0.051, 0.056, 0.065, and 0.073). The samples exhibit different critical temperatures and superconducting phase fractions. We show that in contrast to their Ba-based counterpart, the crystals do not exhibit a second peak in the field dependence of magnetization. The calculated composition-dependent critical current density ($j_{\rm c}$) increases initially with Co doping, maximizing at $x$ = 0.065, and then decreases. This variation in $j_{\rm c}$ follows the superconduc…
Magnetic flux dynamics in type-II superconductors is studied within the model of a viscous nonlinear diffusion of vortices for various sample geometries. We find that time dependence of magnetic moment relaxation after the field is switched off can be accurately approximated by $m(t)\propto 1-\sqrt{t/\tildeτ}$ in the narrow initial time interval and by $m(t)\propto (1+t/τ)^{-1}$ at later times before the flux creep sets in. The characteristic times $\tildeτ$ and $τ$ are proportional to the viscous drag coefficient $η$. Quantitative agreement with available experimental data is obtained for bot…
The trapped magnetic field is examined in bulk high-temperature superconductors that are artificially drilled along their c-axis. The influence of the hole pattern on the magnetization is studied and compared by means of numerical models and Hall probe mapping techniques. To this aim, we consider two bulk YBCO samples with a rectangular cross-section that are drilled each by six holes arranged either on a rectangular lattice (sample I) or on a centered rectangular lattice (sample II). For the numerical analysis, three different models are considered for calculating the trapped flux: (i), a two…
We report superconducting properties of single crystalline Ca10(Pt4-δAs8)(Fe2-xPtxAs2)5 by X-ray diffraction, magnetization, resistivity, and magneto-optical imaging measurements. The magnetization measurements reveal fish-tail hysteresis loop and relatively high critical current density Jc ~ 0.8\times105 A/cm2 at low temperatures. The exponential temperature dependence of Jc, which arises from nonlinear effective flux-creep activation energy, has been observed. Upper critical field determined by resistive transition shows a relatively large anisotropy. The magneto-optical images reveal homoge…
Second magnetization peak (SMP) in hole-doped cuprates and iron pnictide superconductors has been widely explored. However, similar feature in the family of electron-doped cuprates is not common. Here, we report the vortex dynamics study in the single crystal of an electron-doped cuprate Pr$_{0.87}$LaCe$_{0.13}$CuO$_4$ superconductor using dc magnetization measurements. A SMP feature in the isothermal $M(H)$ was observed for $H$$\parallel$$ab$-planes. On the other hand, no such feature was observed for $H$$\parallel$$c$-axis in the crystal. Using magnetic relaxation data, a detailed analysis o…
The anisotropy of the critical current density (Jc) and its influence on measurement of irreversibility field (Birr) has been investigated for high quality, in-situ MgB2 strands. Comparison of transport and magnetization measurements has revealed the onset of a regime where large differences exist between transport and magnetically measured values of the critical current density and Birr. These effects, initially unexpected due to the lack of crystalline texture in these in-situ processed strands, appear to be due to a fibrous microstructure, connected with the details of the wire fabrication …
We make progress towards a 3D finite-element model for the magnetization of a high temperature superconductor (HTS): We suggest a method that takes into account demagnetisation effects and flux creep, while it neglects the effects associated with currents that are not perpendicular to the local magnetic induction. We consider samples that are subjected to a uniform magnetic field varying linearly with time. Their magnetization is calculated by means of a weak formulation in the magnetostatic approximation of the Maxwell equations (A-phi formulation). An implicit method is used for the temporal…
Magnetization relaxation measurements are carried out in the Peak effect regime of superconducting V3Si crystal, using Quantum Design SQUID magnetometer. Relaxation in the increasing field scan is logarithmic in time, consistent with the theory of flux creep. The relaxation on the decreasing field scan however exhibits athermal behavior which is predominantly governed by the flux avalanches triggered by the small external field perturbation experienced by the superconductor during measurement scan in an inhomogeneous field.
Trapped low magnetic flux dynamics including local ones are investigated in YBCO single crystals in the strong thermal fluctuations domain near the superconducting phase transition temperatures. The essential difference from quasi-logarithmic isothermal relaxation of a magnetization behavior (observed earlier in high magnetic fields) was established. Within the framework of classic model of a thermal activated vortices creep the estimation of an effective pinning potential was made at these temperatures.
We have studied vortex pinning and dynamics in a Sr0.6K0.4Fe2As2 superconducting tape with critical current density Jc~0.1 MA/cm2 at 4.2 K and 10 T. It is found that grain boundary pinning is dominant in the vortex pinning mechanism. Furthermore, we observe large density of dislocations which can also serve as effective pinning centers. We find that the temperature dependence of critical current density is in agreement with the model of vortices pinned via spatial fluctuation of charge carrier mean free path. Magnetic relaxation measurement indicates that the magnetization depends on time in a…
In this work we present the results of the bulk magnetization measurements in a superconducting state of single crystals of Ba$_{0.65}$Na$_{0.35}$Fe$_2$As$_2$. The isothermal magnetic field ($H||c$ axis) dependent magnetization ($M$) loops exhibit a second peak (SP) or `fishtail effect', as well as remarkable flux jumps at low temperatures. The critical current density $J_c$ obtained from the $M(H)$ loops is rather high, of the order of 10$^6$ A/cm$^2$. The analysis of the temperature and field dependent $J_c$ implies that high $J_c$ is mainly due to collective (weak) pinning of vortices by de…
Vortex dynamics in a multiband anisotropic superconducting such as the Fe based superconductors, is interesting and potentially important for applications. In this study we examine flux-creep data for fields along the second magnetization peak observed in M(H) curves of BaFe$_{1.9}$Ni$_{0.1}$As$_2$ for H//c-axis, H//ab$-planes and H forming a 45$^o$ angle with ab-planes. We find that the M-H loops taken from the different field directions can be collapsed onto a single universal curve at all temperatures with a simple scaling factor equivalent to the superconducting anisotropy, showing not onl…
We have conducted extensive investigations on the magnetization and its dynamical relaxation on a Ba$_{0.66}$K$_{0.32}$BiO$_{3+δ}$ single crystal. It is found that the magnetization relaxation rate is rather weak compared with that in the cuprate superconductors, indicating a higher collective vortex pinning potential (or activation energy), although the intrinsic pinning potential $U_\mathrm{c}$ is weaker. Detailed analysis leads to the following discoveries: (1) A second-peak effect on the magnetization-hysteresis-loop was observed in a very wide temperature region, ranging from 2K to 24K. I…
Magnetization hysteresis loops and the ac susceptibility of a superconducting thin disk are calculated in the critical-state model assuming a field-dependent critical current density, Jc(B). The results are obtained by solving numerically the set of coupled integral equations for the flux and current distributions [PRB 60(17) p.13112 (1999)] for a disk placed in a perpendicular applied field Ba. From the magnetization curves the range of fields where the vertical width of the loop relates directly to Jc(Ba) is determined. Comparing our results on susceptibility with experimental data for param…
We show that some experimentally observed features of vortex matter in high temperature superconductors may be interpreted in simpler ways than it is usually done. In particular, we consider magnetic flux creep at low temperatures as well as the irreversibility line in the H-T phase diagram. We also discuss a new approach to the analysis of the equilibrium magnetization in the mixed state of type-II superconductors and we suggest an alternative configuration for the mixed state in magnetic fields close to the upper critical field.
The intrinsic pinning in high-temperature superconductor with long range antiferromagnetic order of rare-earth ions confined to the isolating planes is described. The interaction of antiferromagnetic and superconducting subsystems in the mixed state may lead to the creation of spin-flop domain along the vortex core. It is shown that the behavior of several physical quantities such as magnetization, activation energy, current-voltage characteristic and flux creep changes when the direction of the external field changes in the basal a-b plane. It is also shown that the decay of the trapped flux …
Transverse ac permeability measurements in Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ single crystals at low fields and temperatures in a vortex configuration free of external forces show that the decrease of the critical current as measured by magnetization loops at the second peak effect is an artifact due to creep. On the other hand, the increase of critical current at the second peak is due to a genuine softening of the tilting elastic properties of vortices in the individual pinning regime that precedes the transition to a disorder state.
Isothermal magnetic field dependence of magnetization and the magnetic relaxation measurements were performed for $H$$\parallel$c axis on single crystal of Ba(Fe$_{0.935}$Co$_{0.065}$)$_2$As$_2$ pnictide superconductor having $T_c$ = 21.7 K. The second magnetization peak (SMP) for each isothermal $M(H)$ was observed in a wide temperature range from $T_c$ to the lowest temperature of measurement (2 K). Magnetic field dependence of relaxation rate $R(H)$, shows a peak (H$_{spt}$) between H$_{on}$ (onset of SMP in $M(H)$) and H$_p$ (peak field of SMP in $M(H)$), which is likely to be related with…
The irreversible magnetization of the layered high-T_{c} superconductor Bi_{2+x}Sr_{2-(x+y)}Cu_{1+y}O_{6 +- delta} (Bi-2201) has been measured by means of a capacitive torquemeter up to B=28 T and down to T=60 mK. No magnetization jumps, peak effects or crossovers between different pinning mechanisms appear to be present. The deduced irreversibility field B_{irr} can not be described by the law B_{irr}(T)=B_{irr}(0)(1-T/T_{c})^n based on flux creep, but an excellent agreement is found with the analytical form of the melting line of the flux lattice as calculated from the Lindemann criterion. T…
Mo-substituted triple perovskite superconducting samples with the stoichiometric composition La(1.5)Nd(0.5)Ca(1)Ba(2)[Cu(1-x)Mo(x)](5)O(z), [LNCBCuMO] with x = 0.00, 0.01, 0.03, 0.05 and 0.10, have been investigated using X-ray diffraction, electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, magnetization and oxygen content measurements. The observed reduction in Tc with increasing Mo content (x) in LNCBCuMO, can be attributed to the decrease in hole concentration. Magnetization measurements as a function of temperature and field (H), exhibit an M-H hysteresis loop, which indicates moderate flux …
We report the first realization of columnar defects in Co-doped BaFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$ single crystals by heavy-iron irradiation. The columnar defects are confirmed by transmission electron microscopy and their density is about 40 % of the irradiation dose. Magneto-optical imaging and bulk magnetization measurements reveal that the critical current density is strongly enhanced in the irradiated region. We also find that vortex creep rates are strongly suppressed by the columnar defects. We compare the effect of heavy-ion irradiation into Co-doped BaFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$ and cuprate superconductors.
Magneto-optical imaging was used to study the local magnetization in polycrystalline NdFeAsO$_{0.9}$F$_{0.1}$ (NFAOF). Individual crystallites up to $\sim200\times100\times30$ $μm^{3}$ in size could be mapped at various temperatures. The in-grain, persistent current density is about $j\sim10^{5}$ A/cm$^{2}$ and the magnetic relaxation rate in a remanent state peaks at about $T_{m}\sim38$ K. By comparison with with the total magnetization measured in a bar-shaped, dense, polycrystalline sample, we suggest that NdFeAsO$_{0.9}$F$_{0.1}$ is similar to a layered high-$T_{c}$, compound such as Bi$_{…
The penetration field H_p of Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_{8+delta} crystals is determined from magnetization curves for different field sweep rates dH/dt and temperatures. The obtained results are consistent with theoretical reports in the literature about vortex creep over surface and geometrical barriers. The frequently observed low-temperature upturn of H_p is shown to be related to metastable configurations due to barriers for vortex entry. Data of the true lower critical field H_c1 are presented. The low-temperature dependence of H_c1 is consistent with a superconducting state with nodes in the gap f…
We have measured the isothermal field dependence of magnetization of the Mo$_{100-x}$Re$_x$ (15 $\leq$ x $\leq$ 48) alloys, and have estimated the critical current and pinning force density from these measurements. We have performed structural characterization of the above alloys using standard techniques, and analyzed the field dependence of critical current and pinning force density using existing theories. Our results indicate that dislocation networks and point defects like voids and interstitial imperfections are the main flux line pinning centres in the Mo$_{100-x}$Re$_x$ alloys in the i…
By measuring the field and temperature dependence of magnetization on systematically doped $La_{2-x}Sr_xCuO_4$ thin films, the critical current density $j_c(0)$ and the collective pinning energy $U_p(0)$ are determined in single vortex creep regime. Together with the published data of superfluid density, condensation energy and anisotropy, for the first time we derive the doping dependence of the coherence length or vortex core size in wide doping regime directly from the low temperature data. It is found that the coherence length drops in the underdoped region and increases in the overdoped s…
We report the influence of intrinsic superconducting parameters on the vortex dynamics and the critical current densities of a MgB$_2$ thin film. The small magnetic penetration depth of λ= 50 nm at T=4 K is related to a clean π-band, and transport and magnetization data show an upper critical field similar to those reported in clean single crystals. We find a high self-field critical current density Jc, which is strongly reduced with applied magnetic field, and attribute this to suppression of the superconductivity in the π-band. The temperature dependence of the creep rate S(T) at low magneti…
Interface enhanced superconductivity at two dimensional limit has become one of most intriguing research directions in condensed matter physics. Here, we report the superconducting properties of ultra-thin FeSe films with the thickness of one unit cell (1-UC) grown on conductive and insulating SrTiO3 (STO) substrates. For the 1-UC FeSe on conductive STO substrate (Nb-STO), the magnetization versus temperature (M-T) measurement shows a diamagnetic signal at 85 K, suggesting the possibility of superconductivity appears at this high temperature. For the FeSe films on insulating STO substrate, sys…
Using a custom made dc-SQUID magnetometer, we have measured the time relaxation of the remanent magnetization M_rem of a Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_{8+δ} single crystal from the fully critical state for temperatures 13 K < T < 83 K. The measurements cover a time window of seven decades 10^{-2} s < t < 10^5 s, so that the current density j can be studied from values very close to j_c down to values considerably smaller than j_c. From the data we have obtained: (i) the flux creep activation barriers U as a function of current density j, (ii) the current-voltage characteristics E(j) in a typical range of 10…
Measuring with high precision the electrical resistance of highly ordered natural graphite samples from a Brazil mine, we have identified a transition at $\sim$350~K with $\sim$40~K transition width. The step-like change in temperature of the resistance, its magnetic irreversibility and time dependence after a field change, consistent with trapped flux and flux creep, and the partial magnetic flux expulsion obtained by magnetization measurements, suggest the existence of granular superconductivity below 350~K. The zero-field virgin state can only be reached again after zero field cooling the s…
The intergranular pinning potential U and the critical current density Jc for polycrystalline RuSr2Gd1.5Ce0.5Cu2O10 ruthenate-cuprate were determined at zero magnetic field and temperature through the frequency shift in the peak of the imaginary part of the ac magnetic susceptibility, X". A critical state model, including a flux creep term, was found to accurately describe the X" behavior. The obtained values, U(H=0,T=0) ~ 30 meV and Jc(H=0,T=0) ~ 110 A/cm^2 are about two orders of magnitude and four times lower, respectively, in comparison with the high-Tc cuprate YBa2Cu3O7. These results wer…
