While in most ferro or antiferromagnetic materials there is a unique crystallographic direction, including crystallographically equivalent directions, in which the moments like to point due to spin-orbit coupling, in some, the direction of the spin reorients as a function of a certain physical parameter such as temperature, pressure etc. Fe3Sn2 is a kagome ferromagnet with an onset of ferromagnetism below 650 K, and undergoes a spin reorientation near 150 K. While it is known that the moments in Fe3Sn2 point perpendicular to the kagome plane at high temperatures and parallel to the kagome plane at low temperatures, how the distribution of the magnetic domains in the two different spin orientations evolve throughout the spin reorientation is not well known. Furthermore, while there have been various reports on the magnetotransport properties in the Hall configuration, the angular dependence of magnetoresistance has not been studied so far. In this paper, we have examined the spin reorientation by using anisotropic magnetoresistivity in detail, exploiting the dependence of the resistivity on the direction between magnetization and applied current. We are able to determine the distribution of the magnetic domains as a function of temperature between 360 K to 2 K and the reorientation transition to peak at 120 K. We discover that both out of plane and in plane phases coexist at temperatures around the spin reorientation, indicative of a first order transition. Although the volume of the magnetic domains in the different phases sharply changes at the spin reorientation transition, the electronic structure for a specific magnetization is not influenced by the spin reorientation. In contrast, we observe an electronic transition around 40 K, hitherto unreported, and reflected in both the zero-field resistivity and anisotropic resistivity.
Polarization- and temperature-dependent Raman data along with theoretical simulations are presented for the Kagome ferromagnet Fe_3Sn_2. Eight out of nine expected phonon modes were identified. The experimental energies compare well with those from the simulations. The analysis of the line widths indicates relatively strong phonon-phonon coupling in the range 0.1 to 1. The temperature-dependent frequencies of three A_{1g} modes show weak anomalies at approximately 100 K. In contrast, the linewidths of all phonon modes follow the conventional exponential broadening up to room temperature except…

We perform classical Monte Carlo and stochastic Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert simulations to study temperature dependent magnetism of Kagome antiferromagnet (AFM) Weyl metal $\text{Mn}_3\text{Ge}$ and find that a long range chiral order sets in at a transition temperature well below the N{é}el temperature ($T_N$). Based on the crystalline symmetries, imposed by the chiral magnetic order, we argue for the presence of multiple iso-energetic Weyl nodes (nodes that are at same energy and with congruent Fermi surface around them) near chemical potential. Using the semi-classical Boltzmann equations, we s…

Topological materials hosting kagome lattices have drawn considerable attention due to the interplay between topology, magnetism, and electronic correlations. The (Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$)Sn system not only hosts a kagome lattice but has a tunable symmetry breaking magnetic moment with temperature and doping. In this study, angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy and first principles calculations are used to investigate the interplay between the topological electronic structure and varying magnetic moment from the planar to axial antiferromagnetic phases. A theoretically predicted gap at the Dirac …

Electronic properties of the single crystal of GdV6Sn6, where non-magnetic V-kagome layers are separated by magnetic Gd-triangular lattice, are investigated. GdV6Sn6 exhibits unique magnetotransport properties at low-temperature such as non-linear Hall resistivity and increase of resistance R in magnetic field H as R ~ H^0.75 up to 56 T with Shubnikov-De Haas oscillations. Investigation of the non-magnetic analogue YV6Sn6 and the first principles calculations reveal these properties are relevant to the bands arising from the V-kagome layer. A magnetic transition at 5 K in GdV6Sn6 modifies the …
We present magnetotransport data on the ferrimagnet GdMn$_6$Sn$_6$. From the temperature dependent data we are able to extract a large instrinsic contribution to the anomalous Hall effect $σ_{xz}^{int} \sim$ 32 $Ω^{-1}cm^{-1}$ and $σ_{xy}^{int} \sim$ 223 $Ω^{-1}cm^{-1}$, which is comparable to values found in other systems also containing kagome nets of transition metals. From our transport anisotropy, as well as our density functional theory calculations, we argue that the system is electronically best described as a three dimensional system. Thus, we show that reduced dimensionality is not a…
Magnetic van der Waals (vdW) materials offer a fantastic platform to investigate and exploit rich spin configurations stabilized in reduced dimensions. One tantalizing magnetic order is the interlayer antiferromagnetism in A-type vdW antiferromagnet, which may be effectively modified by the magnetic field, stacking order and thickness scaling. However, atomically revealing the interlayer spin orientation in the vdW antiferromagnet is highly challenging, because most of the material candidates exhibit an insulating ground state or instability in ambient conditions. Here, we report the layer-dep…

YBaCo4O7 belongs to a new class of geometrically frustrated magnets like the pyrochlores, in which Co-spins occupy corners of tetrahedra. The structure can be viewed as an alternating stacking of Kagome and triangular layers. Exactly half of the triangular units of the Kagome plane are capped by Co ions to form columns running perpendicular to the Kagome sheets. Neutron powder diffraction reveals a broad temperature range of diffuse magnetic scattering, followed by long range magnetic ordering below 110K. A unique low-temperature magnetic structure simultaneously satisfies an S=0 arrangement i…

The magnetic structure of the "nonmetallic metal" FeCrAs, a compound with the characters of both metals and insulators, was examined as a function of temperature using single-crystal neutron diffraction. The magnetic propagation vector was found to be $\mathit{k}$ = (1/3, 1/3, 0), and the magnetic reflections disppeared above $\mathit{T_{N}}$ = 116(1) K. In the ground state, the Cr sublattice shows an in-plane spiral antiferromagnetic order. The moment sizes of the Cr ions were found to be small, due to strong magnetic frustration in the distorted Kagome lattice or the itinerant nature of the …

The low temperature properties of the Kagome-type system Co3V2O8 have been studied by powder neutron diffraction both in zero field and in applied magnetic field of up to 8 T. Below 6 K, the zero-field ground state is ferromagnetic with the magnetic moments aligned along the a-axis. The size of the moment on one of the two Co sites, the so called cross-tie site, is considerably reduced compared to the fully polarized state. The application of a magnetic field in this phase is found to rapidly enhance the cross-tie site magnetic moment, which reaches the expected value of ~3muB by the maximum a…

We study the magnetic susceptibility, magnetization, resistivity and thermal conductivity of intermetallic HoAgGe single crystals at low temperatures and in magnetic fields along the $a$ and $c$ axis, while the electric and heat currents are along the $c$ axis. The magnetization curves show a series of metamagnetic transitions and small hysteresis at low field for $B \parallel a$, and a weak metamagnetic transition for $B \parallel c$, respectively. Both the magnetic susceptibility and $ρ(T)$ curve show anomalies at the antiferromagnetic transition ($T\rm_N \sim$ 11.3 K) and spin reorientation…

The two dimensional kagome spin lattice structure of Mn atoms in the family of Mn$_3$X non-collinear antiferromagnets are providing substantial excitement in the exploration of Berry curvature physics and the associated non-trivial magnetotransport responses. Much of these studies are performed in the hexagonal systems, mainly Mn$_3$Sn and Mn$_3$Ge, with the kagome planes having their normal along the [001] direction. In this manuscript, we report our study in the cubic Mn$_3$Pt thin films with their kagome planes normal to the [111] crystal axis. Our studies reveal a hole conduction dominant …

We report the magnetotransport properties of ferromagnet (FM)/antiferromagnet (AFM) Fe$_2$CrSi/Ru$_2$MnGe epitaxial bilayers using current-in-plane configurations. Above the critical thickness of the Ru$_2$MnGe layer to induce exchange bias, symmetric and asymmetric curves were observed in response to the direction of FM magnetocrystalline anisotropy. Because each magnetoresistance curve showed full and partial AFM rotation, the magnetoresistance curves imply the impact of the Fe$_2$CrSi magnetocrystalline anisotropy to govern the AFM rotation. The maximum magnitude of the angular-dependent re…
The weak antilocalization (WAL) effect is known as a quantum correction to the classical conductivity, which never appeared in two-dimensional magnets. In this work, we reported the observation of a WAL effect in the van der Waals ferromagnet Fe5-xGeTe2 with a Curie temperature Tc ~ 270 K, which can even reach as high as ~ 120 K. The WAL effect could be well described by the Hikami-Larkin-Nagaoka and Maekawa-Fukuyama theories in the presence of strong spin-orbit coupling (SOC). Moreover, A crossover from a peak to dip behavior around 60 K in both the magnetoresistance and magnetoconductance wa…

The interface between magnetic materials and topological insulators can drive the formation of exotic phases of matter and enable functionality through manipulation of the strong spin polarized transport. Here, we report that the spin-momentum-locked transport in the topological insulator Bi$_2$Se$_3$ is completely suppressed by scattering at a heterointerface with the kagome-lattice paramagnet, Co$_7$Se$_8$. Bi$_2$Se$_{3-}$Co$_7$Se$_{8-}$Bi$_2$Se$_3$ trilayer heterostructures were grown using molecular beam epitaxy. Magnetotransport measurements revealed a substantial suppression of the weak …
