The presence of additional compact dimensions in cosmological models is studied in the context of modified teleparallel theories of gravity. We focus the analysis on eleven dimensional spacetimes, where the seven dimensional extra dimensions are compactified. In particular, and due to the importance that global vector fields play within the conceptual body of teleparallel modified gravity models, we consider the additional dimensions to be products of parallelizable spheres. The global vector fields characterizing the different topologies are obtained, as well as the equations of motion associated to them. Using global dynamical system techniques, we discuss some physical consequences arising because of the existence of the extra dimensions. In particular, the possibility of having an early inflationary epoch driven by the presence of extra dimensions without other matter sources is discussed.
The gravitino problem is investigated in the framework of Extended Gravity cosmologies. In particular, we consider $f(R)$ gravity, the most natural extension of the Hilbert-Einstein action, and $f(\cal T)$ gravity, the extension of teleparallel equivalent gravity. Since in these theories the expansion laws of the Universe are modified, as compared to the standard $Λ$CDM cosmology, it follows that also the thermal history of particles gets modified. We show that $f(R)$ models allow to avoid the late abundance of gravitinos. In particular, we found that for an appropriate choice of the parameter…

We consider f(Q) extended symmetric teleparallel cosmologies, where Q is the non-metricity scalar, and constrain its functional form through the order reduction method. By using this technique, we are able to reduce and integrate the field equations and thus to select the corresponding models giving rise to bouncing cosmology. The selected Lagrangian is then used to develop the Hamiltonian formalism and to obtain the Wave Function of the Universe which suggests that classical observable universes can be recovered according to the Hartle Criterion.
Well-tempering is a promising classical method of dynamically screening an arbitrarily large vacuum energy and generating a late-time, low energy de Sitter vacuum state. In this paper, we study for the first time self-tuning in teleparallel gravity and obtain well-tempered cosmological models in the teleparallel gravity analogue of Horndeski theory. This broadens the scope of well-tempered cosmology and teases the potentially far richer cosmological dynamics that could be anchored on teleperallel gravity. We expand the well-tempered recipe to its most general form so far and use it to search f…
We apply Dirac's Hamiltonian approach to study the canonical structure of the teleparallel form of general relativity without matter fields. It is shown, without any gauge fixing, that the Hamiltonian has the generalized Dirac-ADM form, and constraints satisfy all the consistency requirements. The set of constraints involves some extra first class constraints, which are used to find additional gauge symmetries and clarify the gauge structure of the theory.
There has been growing interest in $f(Q)$ gravity, which has led to significant advancements in the field. However, it is important to note that most studies in this area were based on the coincident gauge, thus overlooking the impact of the connection degrees of freedom. In this work, we pay special attention to the connection when studying perturbations in general teleparallel, metric teleparallel, and symmetric teleparallel theories of gravity. We do not just examine perturbations in the metric, but also in the affine connection. To illustrate this, we investigate cosmological perturbations…
During the conference "Teleparallel Universes in Salamanca", we became aware of a recent paper [M. Fontanini, E. Huguet, and M. Le Delliou, Phys. Rev. D 99 (2019) 064006] in which some criticisms on the interpretation of teleparallel gravity as a gauge theory for the translation group were put forward. This triggered a discussion about the arguments on which those criticisms were based, whose output is described in the present paper. The main conclusion is that, to a great extent, those arguments are incorrect, and lack mathematical and physical support.
Assuming a spatially flat universe, we study the cosmological viability of an infrared corrected teleparallel gravity model, which accounts for late acceleration by weakening gravity at later times on cosmological distances. The theory does not introduce any additional free parameters into the cosmological model, as is commonly the case with modified gravity based cosmologies. This feature renders the cosmological model statistically comparable, on equal footing, with $Λ$CDM. In this context, using recent cosmological observations -- Pantheon supernova Type Ia, Hubble constant $H_0$, Baryon ac…
In this paper we review the canonical analysis of constrained systems and apply it in the case of teleparallel equivalent of general relativity and teleparallel gravity. For each of them we find all the Poisson brackets, generators of gauge symmetries, as well as the number of degrees of freedom.
Recently, a new choice of variables was identified to understand how the quantum group structure appeared in three-dimensional gravity [1]. These variables are introduced via a canonical transformation generated by a boundary term. We show that this boundary term can actually be taken to be the volume of the boundary and that the new variables can be defined in any dimension greater than three. In addition, we study the associated metric and teleparallel formalisms. The former is a variant of the Henneaux--Teitelboim model for unimodular gravity. The latter provides a non-Abelian generalizatio…
A new approach to the description of spin-2 particle in flat and curved spacetime is developed on the basis of the teleparallel gravity theory. We show that such an approach is in fact a true and natural framework for the Fierz representation proposed recently by Novello and Neves. More specifically, we demonstrate how the teleparallel theory fixes uniquely the structure of the Fierz tensor, discover the transparent origin of the gauge symmetry of the spin 2 model, and derive the linearized Einstein operator from the fundamental identity of the teleparallel gravity. In order to cope with the c…

It is proposed to describe a teleparallel structure as a combination of a Riemannian and a symplectic structure. The correspondent invariance group is an intersection of the orthogonal and the symplectic groups. For a 4D manifold it turns to be the basic group of the electro-week interaction $U(1)\times SU(2).$
Using the "teleparallel" equivalent of General Relativity as the gravitational sector, which is based on torsion instead of curvature, we add a canonical scalar field, allowing for a nonminimal coupling with gravity. Although the minimal case is completely equivalent to standard quintessence, the nonminimal scenario has a richer structure, exhibiting quintessence-like or phantom-like behavior, or experiencing the phantom-divide crossing. The richer structure is manifested in the absence of a conformal transformation to an equivalent minimally-coupled model.
We continue to investigate the premetric teleparallel theory of gravity (TG) with the coframe (tetrad) as gravitational potential. We start from the field equations and a local and linear constitutive law. We create a Tonti diagram of TG in order to disclose the structure of TG. Subsequently we irreducibly decompose the 6th order constitutive tensor under the linear group. Moreover, we construct the most general constitutive tensors from the metric and the totally antisymmetric Levi-Civita symbol, and we demonstrate that they encompass nontrivial axion and skewon type pieces. Using these tools…
Braneworld models are interesting theoretical and phenomenological frameworks to search for new physics beyond the standard model of particles and cosmology. In this work, we discuss braneworld models whose gravitational dynamics are governed by teleparallel $f(T)$ gravities. Here, we emphasize a codimension two axisymmetric model, also known as a string-like brane. Likewise, in the 5D domain-walls models, the $f(T)$ gravitational modification leads to a phase transition on the perfect fluid source providing a brane-splitting mechanism. Furthermore, the torsion changes the gravitational pertur…

An exact solution has an axial symmetry is obtained in the teleparallel theory of gravitation. The associated metric has the structure function G(xi)=1-xi^2-2mA(xi)^3. The cubic nature of the structure function can make calculations cumbersome. Using a coordinate transformation we get a tetrad that its associated metric has the structure function in a factorisable form. This new form has the advantage that its roots are now trivial to write down. The singularities of the obtained tetrad are studied. Using another coordinate transformation we get a tetrad that its associated metric gives the Sc…
Teleparallel gravity models, in which the curvature and the nonmetricity of spacetime are both set zero, are widely studied in the literature. We work a different teleparallel theory, in which the curvature and the torsion of spacetime are both constrained to zero, but the nonmetricity is nonzero. After reformulating the general relativity in this spacetime we find a solution and investigate its singularity structure.
Gravitational waves (GWs) have opened a new window on fundamental physics in a number of important ways. The next generation of GW detectors may reveal more information about the polarization structure of GWs. Additionally, there is growing interest in theories of gravity beyond GR. One such theory which remains viable within the context of recent measurements of the speed of propagation of GWs is the teleparallel analogue of Horndeski gravity. In this work, we explore the polarization structure of this newly proposed formulation of Horndeski theory. In curvature-based gravity, Horndeski theor…
We present teleparallel 3D gravity and we extract circularly symmetric solutions, showing that they coincide with the BTZ and Deser-de-Sitter solutions of standard 3D gravity. However, extending into f(T) 3D gravity, that is considering arbitrary functions of the torsion scalar in the action, we obtain BTZ-like and Deser-de-Sitter-like solutions, corresponding to an effective cosmological constant, without any requirement of the sign of the initial cosmological constant. Finally, extending our analysis incorporating the electromagnetic sector, we show that Maxwell-f(T) gravity accepts deformed…
The transformation properties of the gravitational energy-momentum in the teleparallel gravity are analyzed. It is proved that the gravitational energy-momentum in the teleparallel gravity can be expressed in terms of the Lorentz gauge potential, and therefore is not covariant under local Lorentz transformations. On the other hand, it can also be expressed in terms of the translation gauge field strength, and therefore is covariant under general coordinate transformations. A simplified Hamiltonian formulation of the teleparallel gravity is given. Its constraint algebra has the same structure a…
We deal with the problem of identifying a background structure and its perturbation in tetrad theories of gravity. Starting from a peculiar trivial principal bundle we define a metric which depends only on the gauge connection. We find the allowed four-dimensional structure groups; two of them turn out to be the translation group T_4 and the unitary group U(2). When the curvature vanishes the metric reduces to its background form which coincides with Minkowski flat metric for the T_4 case and with the Einstein static universe metric for the U(2) case. The perturbation has a coordinate independ…
In this paper, we developed three analytical models and obtained a new class of solutions describing compact stellar structures using the theory of teleparallel gravity. We consider the general anisotropic nature of stellar configurations and solve teleparallel gravity equations. In order to thoroughly analyze the various parameters of the stars, we developed three models by choosing various physically acceptable forms of metric potential $ e^{d(r)} $ and radial pressure $ p_r(r) $. We also analyze the impact of teleparallel gravity's parameters $ β$ and $ β_1 $ on the description of the stell…
An exact charged solution with axial symmetry is obtained in the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity (TEGR). The associated metric has the structure function $G(ξ)=1-ξ^2-2mAξ^3-q^2A^2ξ^4$. The fourth order nature of the structure function can make calculations cumbersome. Using a coordinate transformation we get a tetrad whose metric has the structure function in a factorisable form $(1-ξ^2)(1+r_{+}Aξ)(1+r_{-}Aξ)$ with $r_{\pm}$ as the horizons of Reissner-Nordstr$\ddot{o}$m space-time. This new form has the advantage that its roots are now trivial to write down. Then, we study the s…
We study the nature of boundary dynamics in the teleparallel 3D gravity. The asymptotic field equations with anti-de Sitter boundary conditions yield only two non-trivial boundary modes, related to a conformal field theory with classical central charge. After showing that the teleparallel gravity can be formulated as a Chern-Simons theory, we identify dynamical structure at the boundary as the Liouville theory.
We study the post-Newtonian limit in the teleparallel equivalent of General Relativity with a scalar field which non-minimally couples to gravity. The metric perturbation is obtained from the vierbein field expansion with respect to the Minkowski background. Due to the structure of the teleparallel gravity Lagrangian, the potential of the scalar field shows no effect to the parametrized post-Newtonian parameters, and compatible results with Solar System observations are found.

We present a generalization of teleparallel gravity that is consistent with local spacetime kinematics regulated by the de Sitter group $SO(1,4)$. The mathematical structure of teleparallel gravity is shown to be given by a nonlinear Riemann-Cartan geometry without curvature, which inspires us to build the generalization on top of a de Sitter-Cartan geometry with a cosmological function. The cosmological function is given its own dynamics and naturally emerges nonminimally coupled to the gravitational field in a manner akin to teleparallel dark energy models or scalar-tensor theories in genera…
We review different dark energy cosmologies. In particular, we present the $Λ$CDM cosmology, Little Rip and Pseudo-Rip universes, the phantom and quintessence cosmologies with Type I, II, III and IV finite-time future singularities and non-singular dark energy universes. In the first part, we explain the $Λ$CDM model and well-established observational tests which constrain the current cosmic acceleration. After that, we investigate the dark fluid universe where a fluid has quite general equation of state (EoS) [including inhomogeneous or imperfect EoS]. All the above dark energy cosmologies fo…
Recently, Geng et al. proposed to allow a non-minimal coupling between quintessence and gravity in the framework of teleparallel gravity, motivated by the similar one in the framework of General Relativity (GR). They found that this non-minimally coupled quintessence in the framework of teleparallel gravity has a richer structure, and named it "teleparallel dark energy". In the present work, we note that there might be a deep and unknown connection between teleparallel dark energy and Elko spinor dark energy. Motivated by this observation and the previous results of Elko spinor dark energy, we…
In this work, we use a combined approach of Hubble parameter data together with redshift-space-distortion $(fσ_8)$ data, which together are used to reconstruct the teleparallel gravity (TG) Lagrangian via Gaussian processes (GP). The adopted Hubble data mainly comes from cosmic chronometers, while for the Type Ia supernovae data we use the latest jointly calibrated Pantheon compilation. Moreover, we consider two main GP covariance functions, namely the squared-exponential and Cauchy kernels in order to show consistency (to within 1$σ$ uncertainties). The core results of this work are the numer…
Using the Dirac procedure to treat constraints dynamical sistems applied to gravitation, as described in the context of Teleparallel Equivalent of General Relativity (TEGR), we investigate, from the first class constraints, the gauge transformations in the fundamental field: the components of tetrads. We have shown that there is no an isotropy in physical space with respect to gauge transformations, i.e., given an arbitrary gravitational field, coming from a gauge transformation in the internal space, physical space reacts differently in the spatial and temporal components. By making an approp…
Teleparallel gravity is an equivalent formulation of general relativity in which instead of the Ricci scalar $R$, one uses the torsion scalar $T$ for the Lagrangian density. Recently teleparallel dark energy has been proposed by Geng et al. in (Geng et al., 2011). They have added quintessence scalar field, allowing also a non-minimal coupling with gravity in the Lagrangian of teleparallel gravity and found that such a non-minimally coupled quintessence theory has a richer structure than the same one in the frame work of general relativity. In the present work we are interested in tachyonic tel…
The Hamiltonian formulation of the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity (TEGR) is developed from an ordinary second-order Lagrangian, which is written as a quadratic form of the coefficients of anholonomy of the orthonormal frames (vielbeins). We analyze the structure of eigenvalues of the multi-index matrix entering the (linear) relation between canonical velocities and momenta to obtain the set of primary constraints. The canonical Hamiltonian is then built with the Moore-Penrose pseudo-inverse of that matrix. The set of constraints, including the subsequent secondary constraints, c…
Starting from a completely general standpoint, we find the most general brane-Universe solutions for a three-brane in a five dimensional spacetime. The brane can border regions of spacetime with or without a cosmological constant. Making no assumptions other than the usual cosmological symmetries of the metric, we prove that the equations of motion form an integrable system, and find the exact solution. The cosmology is indeed a boundary of a (class II) Schwarzschild-AdS spacetime, or a Minkowski (class I) spacetime. We analyse the various cosmological trajectories focusing particularly on tho…
We analyze flat FRW cosmologies and hyperscaling-violating geometries by emphasizing the analytic continuation between them and their scale covariance. We exhibit two main calculations where this point of view is useful. First, based on the scale covariance, we show that the structure of higher curvature corrections to Einstein's equation is very simple. Second, in the context of accelerated FRW cosmologies, also known as Q-space, we begin by calculating the Bunch-Davies wavefunctional for a massless scalar field and considering its interpretation as a generating functional of correlation func…
