The paper presents the results of the longitudinal development of extensive air showers (X$_{max}$) of ultra-high energies and mass composition of cosmic rays. The measurements of X$_{max}$ are based on data from observations of the Cherenkov radiation at the Yakutsk array for the period 1974-2014. The cascade curves of individual showers and the depth of maximum X$_{max}$ were reconstructed over the energy range 10$^{16}$-5.7$\cdot$10$^{19}$ eV. It is shown that the displacement rate of the parameter dX$_{max}$ / dE in the atmosphere is nonlinear and depends on the energy. Such a feature indicates a change in mass composition, which is confirmed by fluctuations of X$_{max}$ in this energy region. The composition of cosmic rays was determined by interpolation using the QGSJetII-04 model.
The lateral distribution of muons with ~1.0x\sec(θ) GeV in extensive air showers within ~10^{17}-10^{19} eV energy region obtained during different observational periods from November 1987 to June 2013 has been analyzed. Experimental data have been compared to predictions of various hadron interaction models. The best agreement is observed with QGSJETII-04. Until 1996, the mass composition of cosmic rays with energy below 2x10^{18} eV was significantly lighter than in later periods.
This paper presents the results of searches for anisotropy in arrival directions of ultra-high energy cosmic rays detected with the Yakutsk Array during the 1974--2008 observational period together with available data from other giant extensive air shower arrays working at present. A method of analysis based on a comparison of the minimal width of distributions in equatorial coordinates is applied. As a result, a hypothesis of isotropy in arrival directions is rejected at the $99.5\%$ significance level. The observed decrease in the minimal width of distribution can be explained by the presenc…
We discuss the lateral distribution of charged particles in extensive air showers with energy above $10^{17}$ eV measured by surface scintillation detectors of Yakutsk EAS array. The analysis covers the data obtained during the period from 1977 to 2013. Experimental values are compared to theoretical predictions obtained with the use of CORSIKA code within frameworks of different hadron interaction models. The best agreement between theory and experiment is observed for QGSJet01 and QGSJet-II-04 models. A change in the cosmic ray mass composition towards proton is observed in the energy range …
The paper presents data on the muon component with a threshold \(\varepsilon_{thr} \geq\) 1 GeV. Air showers were registered at the Yakutsk array during almost 50 years of continuous air shower observations. The characteristics of muons are compared with calculations of QGSjetII-04 and EPOS LHC models for a proton and an iron nucleus. There is a muon deficit in the models, at energies greater than 5 EeV. To make an agreement between experimental data and simulations on muons, further tuning of the models is required.
We present the results of searches for anisotropy in the right ascension ($RA$) distribution of arrival directions of cosmic rays (CRs) detected with the Yakutsk array during the 1974--2008 observational period in the energy range above $10^{18}$ eV. Two methods of analysis are applied to two sub-samples of the data. Particularly, estimations of the first and second harmonic amplitudes are given, as well as the first harmonic phase in adjacent energy intervals. Analysis of variance demonstrates a significant contraction of the minimal width of the $RA$ distribution in the energy bin $(10^{19},…
The Yakutsk array dataset in the energy interval $(10^{17},10^{19})$ eV is revisited in order to interpret the zenith angle distribution of an extensive air shower event rate of ultra-high energy cosmic rays. The close relation of the distribution to the attenuation of the main measurable parameter of showers, $S_{600}$, is examined. Measured and expected distributions are used to analyze the arrival directions of cosmic rays on an equatorial map including the energy range below $10^{18}$ eV, which was previously avoided due to the reduced trigger efficiency of the array in the range. While th…
The arrival directions of ultrahigh energy extensive air showers (EAS) by Yakutsk, AGASA, P. Auger array data are analyzed. For the first time, the maps of equal exposition of celestial sphere for the distribution of particles by AGASA and P. Auger arrays data have been constructed. The large-scale anisotropy of cosmic particles at E>4.1019 eV by Yakutsk, AGASA and P. Auger array data has been detected. The problem of cosmic particle origin is discussed.
The energy spectrum of cosmic rays in the range 10^15 eV to 6*10^19 eV has been studied using the air Cherenkov light detectors of the Yakutsk array. The total flux of photons produced by relativistic electrons (including positrons as well, hereafter) of extensive air showers in the atmosphere is used as the energy estimator of the primary particle initiating a shower. The resultant differential flux of cosmic rays exhibits, in accordance with previous measurements, a knee and ankle features at energies 3*10^15 and ~10^19 eV, respectively. A comparison of observational data with simulations is…
Results obtained from an analysis of the energy spectrum of cosmic rays with energies in the region of $E_0 \ge 10^{17}$ eV over the period of continuous observations from 1974 to 2017 are presented. A refined expression for estimating the primary-particle energy is used for individual events. This expression is derived from calculations aimed at determining the responses of the ground-based and underground scintillation detectors of the Yakutsk array for studying extensive air showers (EAS) and performed within the QGSJET01, QGSJET-II-04, SIBYLL-2.1, and EPOS-LHC models by employing the CORSI…
A wide field-of-view Cherenkov telescope has been working in the surroundings of the Yakutsk array experiment since 2012. Its main function is to measure the waveform of the Cherenkov radiation signal induced by extensive air showers of cosmic rays. Analysis of the dataset collected by telescope is intended for the reconstruction of the parameters of the development of the shower in addition to the main shower characteristics measured by the rest of the array detectors. In this paper, the observed duration of the Cherenkov radiation signal as a function of the shower core distance is used to e…
We study anisotropy of cosmic rays in the energy range 0.2-1.4 EeV at intermediate angular scales using the public data set of the Pierre Auger Observatory. At certain scales, the analysis reveals a number of deviations from the isotropic distribution with the statistical significance above three standard deviations. It also demonstrates that the anisotropy evolves with energy. If confirmed with the complete Auger or Telescope Array data sets, the result can shed new light on the structure of galactic magnetic fields and the problem of transition from galactic to extragalactic cosmic rays.
Auger Collaboration has reported a large-scale anisotropy in the arrival directions of cosmic rays above 8 EeV. The dipole direction, at 125$^\circ$ from the Galactic center, is taken as an indication of an extragalactic origin of these cosmic rays. We show, both theoretically and by direct numerical simulations, that this is not necessarily true. Intermediate mass nuclei originating in the Galaxy and diffusing in the Galactic magnetic field can have a dipole anisotropy pointing away from the Galactic center. Our theory predicts a quadrupole anisotropy of the same order of magnitude as the dip…
A spectrum of cosmic rays within energy range 10^15 - 3x10^17 eV was derived from the data of the small Cherenkov setup, which is a part of the Yakutsk complex EAS array. In this, work a new series of observation is covered. These observations lasted from 2000 till 2010 and resulted in increased number of registered events within interval 10^16 - 10^18 eV, which in turn made it possible to reproduce cosmic ray spectrum in this energy domain with better precision. A sign of a thin structure is observed in the shape of the spectrum. It could be related to the escape of heavy nuclei from our Gala…
The energies of the most energetic extensive air showers observed at the Yakutsk array have been estimated with help of the all detectors readings instead of using of the standard procedure with a parameter s(600). The energy of the most energetic extensive air shower observed at the Yakutsk array happened to be 200, 200, 180 and 165 EeV with the values of the Xi**2 function per one degree of freedom 0.9, 1., 0.9 and 1.1 for the primary protons and helium, oxygen and iron nuclei accordingly.
Two EAS arrays during a day have recorded 3 particles with energies above 30 EeV arriving from the same sky region. Two events were registered by the Yakutsk array and one - by the Telescope Array. Two Yakutsk events were estimated to be same energy and the Telescope Array shower's energy was almost 2 times higher. This indicates the same magnetic rigidity of all three particles, if the charge differs by a factor of 2. The relatively short sequence of all three events and their "monochromaticity" in rigidity can be due to the magnetic separation of particles in the acceleration process and pro…
The ratio of the number of muons with a threshold of 1 GeV and charged particles at a distance of 600 m from the axis is analyzed. Air showers with energies above 5 EeV and zenith angles with less than 60 degrees are considered. Comparison of experimental data with calculations by the QGSJETII-04 model for various primary nuclei, including a gamma ray, showed that the mass composition of cosmic rays up to energies of $\sim$ 10 EeV mainly consists of protons and helium nuclei, with a small number of heavy nuclei. Data include air showers with a very low muon content, which are assumed to be pro…
The arrival directions of ultrahigh energy extensive air showers (EAS) by Yakutsk, AGASA and P. Auger data are considered. It is found that the arrival directions of EAS in the Yakutsk and AGASA data are correlated with pulsars from the side Input, and in the P. Auger data are correlated with pulsars from the Output of the Local Arm of Orion. It is shown that the majority of these pulsars have a short rotation period around their axes, than expected by the pulsar catalogue.
We study possible correlations between ultrahigh energy cosmic rays (UHECRs), observed by Auger, AGASA and Yakutsk, and nearby active galactic nuclei (AGNs) and $Fermi$ sources. We consider the deflection effects by a Galactic magnetic field (GMF) model constrained by the most updated measurements. We found that the average deflection angles of UHECRs by the Galactic magnetic fields are less than $4^\circ$. A correlation between the Auger cosmic-ray events and nearby AGNs with a significance level of $\sim 4σ$ was found for the Auger UHECR data sets with or without deflection correction. No co…
Cosmic rays around the knee are generally believed to be of galactic origin. Observations on their energy spectrum and chemical composition are important for understanding the acceleration and propagation of these cosmic rays. In addition, it is required to clarify the transition from galactic to extragalactic sources. In this paper, results of recent experiments measuring around the knee will be reviewed along with the detection techniques. The results on the all-particle energy spectrum and composition in the energy range of the knee up to the ankle will be discussed.
The arrival directions of ultrahigh energy extensive air showers (EAS) by Yakutsk, AGASA and P. Auger data are considered. It is found that the arrival directions of EAS with a deficit muons by Yakutsk data are not isotropy. Majority of these EAS form doublets which have maximum at side anticenter of Galaxy. It is shown that some EAS by data of Yakutsk, AGASA, P.Auger correlate with pulsars. These pulsars are situated near Input and Output Local arm Galaxy Orion. The majority of these pulsars have a short period rotate around of their axes. The problem of cosmic ray origin is discussed.
Fast-spinning newborn pulsars are intriguing candidate sources of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays (UHECRs). The acceleration of particles with a given composition in a fraction of the extragalactic pulsar population can give a consistent explanation for the measurements of the Auger Observatory. We calculate the associated diffuse neutrino flux produced while particles cross the supernova ejecta surrounding the stars. We show that in the minimal pulsar scenario that are compatible with the UHECR data, the effective optical depth to hadronuclear interactions is larger than unity at ultrahigh energ…
From the data on Cherenkov light from EASs collected over the period of more than 15 years, the spectrum of cosmic rays was obtained in the energy range 1.0E15-1.0E18 eV. This spectrum has two features: at ~3.0E15 eV (first knee) and at ~1.0E17 eV (second knee). The first knee is characterized by the indexes γ_1=2.7+/-0.03 and γ_2 = 3.12+/-0.03 and the second knee - by γ_1 = 2.92+/-0.03 and γ_2=3.24+/-0.04. In the second case the difference amounts to Δγ_23=0.32{\pm}0.03{\pm}0.05 which is less than the case of the first knee Δγ_12=0.42+/-0.03+/-0.05 (here dual errors represent statistics and s…
Arrival directions of ultrahigh energy extensive air showers (EAS) by world arrays data are analyzed. It is shown that arrival directions of ultrahigh energy EAS by Yakutsk and P. Auger data are some correlated with pulsars of Local Arm Orion of Galaxy. It is found large amplitude of first harmony of Fourier row by data Yakutsk array. The problem of cosmic rays origin is discussed.
Observations of TeV--PeV-energy cosmic neutrinos by the IceCube observatory have suggested that extragalactic cosmic-ray sources should have an optical depth greater than $\sim$0.01 and contribute to more than 10\% of the observed bulk of cosmic rays at 10 PeV. If the spectrum of cosmic rays from these extragalactic sources extends well beyond 1 EeV, the neutrino flux indicates that extragalactic cosmic-ray protons are dominant in the observed total cosmic-ray flux at 1 EeV. Among known powerful astronomical objects, including gamma-ray bursters (GRBs), only flat-spectrum radio quasars could (…
Lateral distribution of muons in extensive air showers registered at the Yakutsk array was investigated. The analysis covers two periods of observation: before 2018 and after 2020, when the revision of muon detectors with 1-GeV threshold was complete. Measured values of muon density are compared to computational results obtained within the framework of two hadron interaction models. Within the energy domain above $10^{18}$ eV the best agreement is observed for proton composition primary cosmic rays.
The data on arrival directions of ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) detected with the Yakutsk array are analyzed. The work is induced by the recent claim of the Pierre Auger collaboration for the significant correlation found between UHECRs and positions of nearby Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) on the celestial sphere; and no correlation the HiRes collaboration stands for. Conflicting data of four giant arrays concern possible extragalactic sources of UHECRs and appeal to the profound analysis and to the future data from the Telescope Array/Northern Auger Observatory.
Radio galaxies are intensively discussed as the sources of cosmic rays observed above about 3 EeV, called ultra-high-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs). Here, the key issues from a recent investigation are summed up, where the individual characteristics of radio galaxies, as well as the impact by the extragalactic magnetic-field structures up to a distance of 120 Mpc has been taken into account. It is shown that the average contribution of radio galaxies taken over a very large volume cannot explain the observed features of UHECRs measured at Earth. However, we obtain excellent agreement with the spe…
A detailed investigation of radio galaxies has recently stressed these sources as the possible origin of the cosmic rays observed above $3\,\text{EeV}$. Here, the relevance of this model at energies below $3\,\text{EeV}$ is investigated. So, it is shown that the average contribution of radio galaxies can accurately explain the observed CR flux between the second knee and the ankle in the case of a strong source evolution. However, the model cannot provide the increasing heaviness and variance at energies $\lesssim 1\,\text{EeV}$ of the observed chemical composition. In addition, it is exposed …
Several energy spectra of cosmic rays with energies E_0 \geq 10^17 eV measured at the Yakutsk EAS, AGASA, Haverah Park, HiRes, Auger, and SUGAR arrays are considered. It is shown that the fairly good mutual agreement of the spectrum shapes can be achieved if the energy of each spectrum is multiplied by a factor K specific for each spectrum. These factors exhibit a pronounced dependence on the latitude of the above-mentioned arrays.
Important observational results have been recently reported on the angular distributions of cosmic rays at all energies, calling into question the perception of cosmic rays a decade ago. These results together with their in-progress interpretations are summarised in this review paper, covering both large-scale and small-scale anisotropies from TeV energies to the highest ones. While the magnetic field in the Galaxy has long been considered as an external data imprinting a quasi-random walk to particles and thus shaping the angular distributions of Galactic cosmic rays through the induced avera…
Data of Pierre Auger Observatory show a proton-dominated chemical composition of ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays spectrum at (1 - 3) EeV and a steadily heavier composition with energy increasing. In order to explain this feature we assume that (1 - 3) EeV protons are extragalactic and derive their maximum acceleration energy, E_p^{max} \simeq 4 EeV, compatible with both the spectrum and the composition. We also assume the rigidity-dependent acceleration mechanism of heavier nuclei, E_A^{max} = Z x E_p^{max}. The proposed model has rather disappointing consequences: i) no pion photo-production on …
We have built regions in a Sky map where it should be expected the arrival of 120 EeV ultrahigh energy cosmic rays (UHECR) directionally correlated with the latest astrophysical neutrino tracks observed at IceCube, which are taken as point sources. In order to calculate these arrival directions we have considered contributions to the cosmic rays deflections originated by the galactic and the extragalactic magnetic field, and a UHECR composition compatible with the current expectations. We have used the Jansson-Farrar JF12 model for the Galactic magnetic field and an extragalactic magnetic fiel…
We study the effects that the diffusion of the cosmic rays in the magnetic field of the Local Supercluster can have on the spectrum of a nearby extragalactic source at ultrahigh energies. We find that the strong enhancement of the flux below the energy at which the transition between the diffusive and quasirectilinear regimes takes place, as well as the suppression at lower energies associated with a finite source age, can help to explain the observed features of the cosmic-ray spectrum and the composition. Scenarios are discussed in which a nearby extragalactic source with mixed composition a…
A hard $γ$-ray spectrum of supernova remnant G106.3+2.7 can be explained by using the hadronic model with the gluon condensation effect. This implies that not only PeVatrons but also EeVatrons generally exist in the universe including our galaxy, and they can accelerate protons to beyond "ankle" ($10^{19}~eV$). Although these proton beams are very weak in the galaxy and cannot be observed individually on the earth, the gluon condensation effect may greatly enhance the proton-proton cross section, which can compensate for the weak proton flux and produce the observed $γ$-rays. We also show that…
We analyze the distribution of arrival directions of ultra-high energy cosmic rays recorded at the Pierre Auger Observatory in 10 years of operation. The data set, about three times larger than that used in earlier studies, includes arrival directions with zenith angles up to $80^\circ$, thus covering from $-90^\circ$ to $+45^\circ$ in declination. After updating the fraction of events correlating with the active galactic nuclei (AGNs) in the Véron-Cetty and Véron catalog, we subject the arrival directions of the data with energies in excess of 40 EeV to different tests for anisotropy. We sear…
Results are presented that were obtained by analysing the arrival directions of E0 > 8x10**18 eV primary cosmic rays recorded at the Yakutsk array over the period between 1974 and 2003 and at the SUGAR array (Australia). The greatest primary cosmic ray flux is shown to arrive from the region of visible intersection of the planes of the Galaxy and the Supergalaxy (local supercluster of galaxies) at a galactic longitude of about 137 degres. On a global scale, the lowest temperature of the cosmic microwave background is typical of this region.
The Yakutsk Extensive Air Shower Array has been continuously operating for more than 50 years (since 1970) and up until recently it has been one of world's largest ground-based instruments aimed at studying the properties of cosmic rays in the ultra-high energy domain. In this report we discuss results recently obtained at the array - on cosmic rays energy spectrum, mass composition and directional anisotropy - and how they fit into the world data. Special attention is paid to the measurements of muonic component of extensive air showers. Theoretical results of particle acceleration at shocks …
The extended jet structures of radio galaxies (RGs) represent an ideal acceleration site for High Energy Cosmic Rays (HECRs) and a recent model showed that the HECR data can be explained by these sources, if the arrival directions of HECRs at energies $\lesssim 8\,\text{EeV}$ from a certain RG, Cygnus A, are isotropized. First, this work introduces the inverted simulation setup in order to probe the isotropy assumption. Here, different extragalactic magnetic field models are compared showing that either a magnetic field of primordial origin that yields a high field strength in the large scale …
We report on a measurement of the cosmic ray composition by the Telescope Array Low-Energy Extension (TALE) air fluorescence detector (FD). By making use of the Cherenkov light signal in addition to air fluorescence light from cosmic ray (CR) induced extensive air showers, the TALE FD can measure the properties of the cosmic rays with energies as low as $\sim 2$ PeV and exceeding 1 EeV. In this paper, we present results on the measurement of $X_{\rm max}$ distributions of showers observed over this energy range. Data collected over a period of $\sim 4$ years was analyzed for this study. The re…
We consider the possibility of explaining the observed spectrum and composition of the cosmic rays with energies above $10^{17}$ eV in terms of two different extragalactic populations of sources in the presence of a turbulent intergalactic magnetic field (including also a fading Galactic cosmic-ray component). The populations are considered to be the superposition of different nuclear species having rigidity dependent spectra. The first extragalactic population is dominant in the energy range $10^{17}$ to $10^{18}$ eV and consists of sources having a relatively large density ($> 10^{-3}$ Mpc$^…
Ultra-high energy cosmic rays can propagate diffusively in cosmic magnetic fields. When their propagation time is comparable to the age of the universe, a suppression in the flux relative to the case in the absence of magnetic fields will occur. In this work we find an approximate parametrization for this suppression for energies below $\sim$ Z EeV using several magnetic field distributions obtained from cosmological simulations of the magnetized cosmic web. We assume that the magnetic fields have a Kolmogorov power spectrum with the field strengths distributed according to these simulations. …
Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECR) at GZK cut off energy (E \geq 55 EeV eV) may keep sharp or diffused directionality wherever their composition is made by nucleon or light nuclei. AUGER UHECR (2007-2010) did show a mild clustering mainly around Cen A. Two over three of the recent discovered AUGER multiplet (a dozen of events each) tail clustering at twenty EeV are pointing to primary sources very near the same UHECR crowded Cen A region. The Tens EeV tail is aligned with the same UHECR events. We foresaw such possibility as fragment tails of lightest UHECR nuclei. We discuss the relevance …
The existence of fast radio bursts (FRBs), a new type of extragalatic transients, has been established recently and quite a few models have been proposed. In this work we discuss the possible connection between the FRB sources and ultra-high energy ($>10^{18}$ eV) cosmic rays. We show that in the blitzar model and the model of merging binary neutron stars, the huge energy release of each FRB central engine together with the rather high rate of FRBs, the accelerated EeV cosmic rays may contribute significantly to the observed ones. In other FRB models including for example the merger of double …
We study general implications of the IceCube observations in the energy range from $10^{6}$ GeV to $10^{10}$ GeV for the origin of extragalactic ultrahigh energy cosmic rays assuming that high energy neutrinos are generated by the photomeson production of protons in the extragalactic universe. The PeV-energy neutrino flux observed by IceCube gives strong bounds on the photomeson-production optical depth of protons in their sources and the intensity of the proton component of extragalactic cosmic rays. The neutrino flux implies that extragalactic cosmic-ray sources should have the optical depth…
We report on measurements of the all-particle cosmic ray energy spectrum and composition in the PeV to EeV energy range using three years of data from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. The IceTop detector measures cosmic ray induced air showers on the surface of the ice, from which the energy spectrum of cosmic rays is determined by making additional assumptions about the mass composition. A separate measurement is performed when IceTop data are analyzed in coincidence with the high-energy muon energy loss information from the deep in-ice IceCube detector. In this measurement, both the spectru…
A thorough search of the sky exposed at the Pierre Auger Cosmic Ray Observatory reveals no statistically significant excess of events in any small solid angle that would be indicative of a flux of neutral particles from a discrete source. The search covers from -90 to +15 degrees in declination using four different energy ranges above 1 EeV (10^18 eV). The method used in this search is more sensitive to neutrons than to photons. The upper limit on a neutron flux is derived for a dense grid of directions for each of the four energy ranges. These results constrain scenarios for the production of…
We present the results of an analysis of the large angular scale distribution of the arrival directions of cosmic rays with energy above 4 EeV detected at the Pierre Auger Observatory including for the first time events with zenith angle between $60^\circ$ and $80^\circ$. We perform two Rayleigh analyses, one in the right ascension and one in the azimuth angle distributions, that are sensitive to modulations in right ascension and declination, respectively. The largest departure from isotropy appears in the $E > 8$ EeV energy bin, with an amplitude for the first harmonic in right ascension $r_…
We present the results of a search for clustering among the highest energy events detected by the surface detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory between 1 January 2004 and 31 August 2007. We analyse the autocorrelation function, in which the number of pairs with angular separation within a given angle is compared with the expectation from an isotropic distribution. Performing a scan in energy above 30 EeV and in angles smaller than 30 degrees, the most significant excess of pairs appears for E > 57 EeV and for a wide range of separation angles, between 9 and 22 degrees. An excess like this h…
The energy spectrum of ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) provides essential information on the most energetic phenomena in the Universe. Beyond EeV energies, the Telescope Array and Pierre Auger Observatory have the largest exposures to UHECRs ever accumulated in the Northern and Southern hemispheres, respectively. The results show independently a steepening of the energy spectrum above a few tens of EeV. However, the comparison of the spectra shows differences that are not explainable in terms of an overall uncertainty on the energy scale used to reconstruct the extensive air showers. Th…
The PeV gamma ray background produced in the interactions of ultra high energy cosmic rays with the ambient matter and radiations during their propagation in the Milky Way has been calculated in this paper. If the primary ultra high energy cosmic rays are produced from Galactic point sources then those point sources are also emitting PeV gamma rays. We discuss that the detection of galactocentric PeV gamma rays in the future would be a signature of the presence of EeV cosmic accelerators in the Milky Way.
We demonstrate that a population of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) can describe the observed spectrum of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) at and above the ankle, and that the dominant contribution comes from low-luminosity BL Lacs. An additional, subdominant contribution from high-luminosity AGN is needed to improve the description of the composition observables, leading to a substantial neutrino flux that peaks at EeV energies. We also find that different properties for the low- and high-luminosity AGN populations are required; a possibly similar baryonic loading can already be excluded f…
